Small confession: I don't like ramen. But I had a lunch date friend with a friend here, so I was elated to find an entire page of the menu dedicated to curry entrees. Here's the short end of it: if you're on the fence about ramen, you can still have a great meal here. I ordered the Karaage curry, which came with four chunky pieces of fried chicken between a mound of rice and an impressive pool of beef curry. I love curries, and this was no exception. There's just nothing like that characteristic smokey, flavor-blasted blend of spices in Japanese curries. On the slight downside, there wasn't a ton of beef in the curry, but it sure made it exciting when I happened upon occasional bites with meat chunks. The Japanese iced coffee is a presentation unto itself. A small pourover sits above a cup, ensuring a fresh brew. That drips onto a small puddle of condensed milk while a cup of ice stands ready by the side. It's a zazzy, interactive process toward a cup of iced coffee that tasted just fine. There's a lovely, cozy vibe to this restaurant that the warm, non-hurried service just accentuates. Service was attentive without intrusion throughout. There's a small, free parking lot right in front, which is certainly a boon in the parking-less void that is this part of Englewood.

After renovations, this place looks a lot more updated/modernized. I had the lunch special which included ramen, kimchi, and coffee. Very filling along with the appetizers that you can choose from. The meat was bit tough and the bao bun tasted a bit stale/tough. The spicy chicken had a lot of their spicy sauce and it was a bit overpowering on the sauce part. For the lunch special, I wasn't given the coffee until I reminded them again, which I then had to take to go. The coffee was great though, enjoyed the strong taste although not much was given. I was waiting for a while for a server to come to me although there was only one at a time so I don't put it past him during busy lunch hours. Regardless he was friendly and attentive to my order so they were appreciated. Not sure if I would come back but it would satisfy cravings in a pinch.

I really liked this place! I had the spicy sesame miso ramen. They put the spice on the side for me, which was a good choice but I'm sensitive to spice. I really liked my broth and that pork belly was delicious. The person I was with had the tonkotsu shoyu and they enjoyed it. I believe I had a lavender lemonade drink and it was good. I couldn't believe how cheap the prices are. If this place were closer to my house, I'd be a regular customer. The ambiance is casual, it's cute inside. My only complaint with the service is that they didn't check on us for a really long time after dropping the food off so I had to wait forever to ask for something.

I was having a huge craving for some authentic ramen. We hadn't been back for a while, and we wondered if anything had changed. I can honestly say, they have... for the better! For one thing, there's more indoor seating now. We were seated quickly, and our waiter handed us the menu. Based on my older photos, I'm pretty sure they've expanded their offerings. I noticed right away that they now serve Vietnamese coffee, and being a coffee lover, I simply had to try it. The waiter asked if I wanted it iced or hot, and I chose iced. Out came the Vietnamese coffee dripper, slowly dripping rich, aromatic coffee into my cup. On the side was another cup filled about three-quarters full with ice. I ordered the combo: Tonkotsu ramen noodles with a spicy pork rice bowl. The broth of the ramen noodles was incredibly fragrant as well as flavorful. It was not overly salty, as I find in many ramen restaurants. The noodles had the perfect QQ texture. Moving over to my spicy pork rice bowl, it was such a comfort bowl. You definitely have to stir before you eat, as the bottom of the bowl has all the spicy sauce. I am a huge fan of these types of bowls. As I ate happily, my phin filter finished brewing. The waiter had already placed condensed milk in the cup, so I gave it a quick stir. Taking advantage of the freshly brewed warmth, I sipped it hot first, then poured a bit over ice to compare. My verdict: if you enjoy a robust flavor, drink it hot. If you prefer something smoother and less intense, pour it over ice. Personally, I loved it hot, but be aware, Vietnamese coffee has more caffeine than espresso. It's sweeter too, thanks to the condensed milk. Our waiter made it not too sweet, at my request. He absolutely nailed it. Outright nirvana. They have a small parking lot, plus additional street parking. Outdoor seating is still available, which is lovely when the weather's warm. Phenomenal food and beverages. Highly recommend!

Went to Ramen Azuma for dinner on a Friday. They have a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. It's a pretty big ramen spot, with big glass windows and big wooden booths. We were seated pretty quickly, and given menus. We ordered the calamari, fried chicken, cucumbers, miso soup, and spicy chicken for appetizers. They're small but cheap and they were all pretty good. My favorite was the fried chicken karaage. The spicy chicken was the same but with buffalo sauce. I got the volcano ramen. It had a huge pile of toppings on it. Unfortunately, most of that pile was shredded cabbage and bean sprouts. There was enough to fill a small bowl once I had removed it. The broth was not very spicy, and it was very greasy, I did like the noodles and the four soft boiled eggs. The chashu pork was sliced thin and it was tender. I also tasted the chicken curry. I liked that a lot, it was just sweet enough with a bit of heat. If I came back I'd get the curry.

After receiving several recommendations from family members, my daughter and I decided to try Ramen Azuma instead of our usual spot inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. We chose to order takeout and eat at home. I first asked my daughter to go inside and grab a physical menu so we could look it over in the car before ordering. When she returned, she mentioned that the two men working at the front seemed a bit rude. I brushed it off at first. When we were ready to order, we both went inside. I approached the two employees at the counter--one tall east asian? and the other, slightly shorter southeast asian?--and told them we would like to place a takeout order for both me and my daughter. After I said this, the taller employee began snickering and walked toward the kitchen. The other employee appeared to struggle to hold back laughter as well. I asked him if there was an issue, and he responded that they were laughing about something that had happened earlier, saying, "Nothing, nothing." Regardless of the explanation, the behavior felt extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. It gave the impression that they were laughing at us, which made the interaction uncomfortable. If employees feel comfortable laughing in front of customers like that, it raises concerns about their professionalism overall. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this establishment, which is disappointing given that we had heard such positive things about it.

I did today Tonkotsu Ramen ( pork and yellow noodles) and a portion of white rice. Everything was perfectly coked , wrapped and presented... Today was cold and I needed some comfort food... I don't know what happened to me but the thing I like the most today was the rice!!! Thank you guys. God bless you

Definitely new AND IMPROVED. We've dined in at Ramen Azuma in Hackensack and this Ramen Azuma for takeout, but this was our very first time dining here since their expansion and, boy, Ramen Azuma has definitely raised their ramen game. We dropped by on the Sunday of their location expansion promotion week in October where they offered all of their ramen bowls for 50% off and it was so worth it! Finding ramen for under $10 is just unheardof in 2024 (or post-2020 for that matter), so when we read about the promotion, it wasn't a matter of if, but instead when. When we arrived at 11:30AM, there was a mob of customers outside already waiting to go in. Guess word got out and everyone had the same mindset? Anyhow, we were still easily seated due to the fact that the restaurant basically doubled in size for their expansion. My wife and I didn't waste any time what so ever and we ordered calamari to start and we both got the Deluxe Ramen, which typically cost $17.50, but on this beautifulllll Sunday morning it was only $8.75 each! For our kids, we got the Chicken Yizu Shio Ramen, which was a ridiculous $7 because of the promo. Yes, I have to admit, when you find a good deal, food usually taste a lot better, but, to be perfectly honest, everything was excellent. The calamari was very crispy and crunchy and the ramen and broth of the Deluxe Ramen were actually VERY, VERY, VERY good. I wasn't too impressed when I ordered takeout a long time ago, but this experience absolutely convinced me that Ramen Azuma is possibly up there with some of the best ramen restaurants in NJ. The Deluxe Ramen did have a lot more of everything - 3 half eggs, cha-shu, nori, corn (we subbed it for the bamboo), mushroom. The ramen noodles and broth were super tasty and delicious. I loved everything about it - the noodles, cha-shu, eggs. Even though I was stuffed, I EASILY could have eaten another one because it was so damn good!!! Service was swift and quick throughout, so no complaints there. The parking lot was a bit on the small and tight side and especially with the number of customers coming for the deal, it felt even tighter. However, don't let that deter you one bit from coming here because the ramen was sooooo good.

On a chilly and rainy Monday evening, we decided to warm our spirits at Ramen Azuma in Hackensack, and it turned out to be the perfect choice! This cozy spot not only warmed our bodies but also lifted our souls with its delightful offerings. I opted for the Shrimp Wonton Shoyu Ramen, and let me tell you, it was a bowl of comfort! The classic soy sauce-flavored broth was light yet bursting with flavor, perfectly complemented by the silky shrimp wontons. The wavy yellow noodles were a fantastic recommendation, adding to the overall deliciousness of the dish. Each slurp was satisfying, and it's safe to say this ramen is a true standout. We also decided to expand our culinary horizons by trying some sushi for the first time. While it didn't disappoint, I wouldn't say it's worth waiting in line for. The spicy tuna roll and España roll were decent, but the ramen truly stole the spotlight and deserves all the accolades. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Vibes: 5/5 Delicious lunch specials and food, and great service! I've been here twice now and can't go wrong with any choice. I really liked the Cold Spicy Sesame Miso Somen, especially in the summer heat! 200g is the perfect portion size for me. I love how they offer this bowl for the same price for three different portion sizes of noodles. Can't wait to go back!

The service is great! The food is amazing. I am on a gluten-free diet. I got their vegan tonkotsu broth and toppings with gluten-free ramen as they are the only 2 gluten-free combo on menu besides edamame and cucumber as appetizers. I also added corn and garlic oil on the side of my ramen, and they do warn about risk of cross contamination regarding toppings outside the 2 combo I mentioned earlier. As for taste, broth was very rich especially with garlic oil. The toppings were enough and contribute to flavor, especially the mushrooms. The ramen noodle was perfect, not undercooked or hard like most gluten-free noodles I tried before, but also not overcooked for mushy texture. Moreover, I enjoy this combination in my meal very much and look forward eating here again. Thank you Ramen Azuma of Englewood!

Solid ramen and then some... Huge options, flavorful, tasty, zesty, bulky... You'll be back to try much of the menu. Indoor and outdoor seating. Parking lot is on the side, but not many spots.

Ramen goodness in Jersey! Went to different locations and this ramen place does not disappoint! Location: It is located along Englewood. There is few seating inside and a bar. There is seating outside but not heated. Lot of street parking. Service: They were very attentive and nice. Food: they are famous with their ramens but I always order the combo. RAMEN and YAKINIKU: this is my favorite cause the ramen broth is so delicious and the beef yakiniku is so tender and tasty. PORK CUTLET PLATTER: the tonkatsu was tender inside and crispy outside, comes with miso soup and rice. RAMEN and CHICKEN KARAAGE: the chicken is crispy and cooked into perfection. SHRIMP TEMPURA: its like the one we buy in costco, this is my least favorite. GYOZA: its delicate and the pork and chives are tasty. LAVENDER LEMONADE: it was okay, too sweet. THAI TEA BOBA: this is better, so milky and not that sweet. Price rating: 7/10. Not bad for the goodness that you'll get. Visited this ramen place multiple times and it's always a good experience! Definitely will come back!

Various parts of the chicken, mostly pretty bland. Nothing was bad but nothing was noteworthy. Tried another round of 5 skewers, the one with the plum filling was a bit more enjoyable. In Yakitori 39's defense, we probably did it wrong. It's probably fun with a bunch of sake but I don't drink alcohol. The ingredients seem quality. Probably won't be rushing back.

My dining partner and I were seated rather quickly. Our server took our drink orders and came back promptly so we could order our food. The menu is pretty extensive but we ordered an assortment of skewers and a bowl of ramen to share. The skewers came out little by little; about 3 skewers per plate. They didn't come all at once so I assume they bring them out as they finish getting grilled. The chicken heart was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it's the way it was sliced, the seasoning, or just everything about it but I wish we ordered more. The tail skewer was another standout. It had so much crunch that it was almost like it was fried. The flavors were rich and varied. Each skewer cost upwards of $4 so that's a bummer. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't so great. Not terrible, but not great either. Especially not great for $19. Not my first choice for ramen. Is it the most bang for your buck? Certainly not. But I did enjoy my meal and in the end, that's what matters.

I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. Sweet Potato Roll: (Not pictured) The roll was ok, I liked it but felt like it was missing something. Maybe I would have liked it if it was Korean sweet potatoes. I won't order again because the menu is so extensive I can't limit myself to something I thought was ok. (4/5) Overall, Shokudo is a fantastic place to eat. It's truly an experience. The music is amazing and not overbearing, the ambiance is beautiful and there's multiple conversation pieces. What I love about looking at the items in the restaurant is how they go from traditional to contemporary. The servers were the sweetest, they all were extremely hospitable. All I can say is, I'll be back and if you go... you may see me there.

Nothing really stood out to me as far as flavor or noodle texture. The curry was almost all just sauce over rice so I would pass on this dish next time. Loved the fried chicken though. Crunchy non the outside and super juicy on the inside. The dipping sauce had a slight kick to it but was manageable. The gyoza was average as well. Overall, a pleasant experience. The inside is spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and service was fast.

What started as a handful of niche noodle shops is now a full-on culinary movement. All across Jersey, ramen chefs are crafting rich broths, house-made noodles, and inventive toppings that delight the senses. Located on State Street in Hackensack, I frequent this establishment numerous times during the year. Ramen Azuma pours out their soul in preparing perfectly the classic Japanese cuisine. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the staff and got an empty table by the window inside their cozy and inviting vibe. Their menu features a wide selection of ramen, curry, and appetizers. I decided on their newest edition--Wonton Ramen and 3 pieces of Fried Chicken. The savory ramen soup was filled with shrimp wontons. Even though they were very thin wonton wrappers with a smaller amount of filling, they tasted consistent with other shrimp wontons from past restaurants, accompanied by Menma Bamboo, Scallions, and Egg. The Fried Chicken was well seasoned. The food overall remained authentic and incredibly flavorful and on point. The portion was very generous. Friendly service, and the price was reasonable. Make sure one comes on an empty stomach.

Not only is the food awesome - I ordered a ramen, plain hot dog, and halo-halo shaved ice (addictively good) - but bonus stars to the staff who were sooo sweet! The Hawaiian style shaved ice and home-made ice cream are top notch. The ice cream is rich and delicious, with some unique flavors, and the shaved ice is very fine - fluffy and evenly slushy in texture and sweetness, unlike the inferior versions where you run into bland chips of ice. The toppings are yum too. The ramen noodles are springy, settled in a savory light broth. For a non-prestige grade ramen, I have no complaints. I also want to acknowledge the lovely hospitality. My child was in a tantrum-y mood and went to sulk by himself in a corner. Seeing the pouty little grump in a small fit, the girls at the counter coaxed him over with ice cream and stickers, which he of course eagerly accepted, pleased by the attention and confection, and was soon back to his endearing self. So I really appreciated their extra kindness! This is a fab joint for a quick-casual or just a perfect sweet treat!

I have never had Hawaiian shaved ice cream and absolutely loved the matcha one. My kids ended up getting the rainbow shaved ice cream and my husband did the ube top coconut ice cream.
