Baby Shower Cake Disaster I was very excited to plan our first baby shower for my wife and wanted to surprise her with a fun, unique cake shaped as our French Bulldog. After extensive research, I chose Meraki Custom Cakes and was in contact with Mark Hill, the owner. This was my first custom cake order and Mark helped me by creating a design based on a picture of our French bulldog, with her holding a baby girl in a pink blanket. The shower was scheduled for the morning of March 20th, so I requested to have the cake completed by March 19th. On a positive note, the cake was cute as you can see from the picture. Unfortunately, I had no idea that it was completely unbalanced and top heavy. Mark had placed the cake in a flimsy cardboard box with zero support within the box to hold the cake. However, Mark assured me travel would not be an issue. I had a relative with me to help hold the cake as we traveled home. It's important to understand that Mark does not have a physical office - he uses a small coffee shop to drop off cakes so finding him is not easy (as I learned). By the time we got home, the bottom half of the cake had completely broken (picture) and when trying to carefully move it to the fridge, the head fell off. After multiple attempts, I finally got ahold of Mark. His entire attitude did a 180 - he went from being helpful and patient early on to an emotional nightmare the minute I explained the cake was top heavy and would not transport. At first, I asked Mark for help and he said he was busy at a cake tasting and had no time to talk. I then told him he could come by anytime that evening / Saturday morning before the shower to repair the cake. He was furious and said he had plans and refused to do that. If it were my business, I would've been embarrassed and would do anything possible to repair the cake; however, Mark had already moved on to the next order and made it clear that in his mind, his design was flawless, even though he admitted there was no support for the baby. If you look at the pictures, you'll notice that the cake is leaning forward naturally. The massive head is a separate cake and the only support holding the head together with the body is a large toothpick. Further, the baby was not light. This also was supported by a toothpick. Lastly, Mark admitted that the feet at the bottom of the cake were not meant for support. Thus, this cake literally had a cylindrical design with multiple pieces at the front supported by toothpicks...it never had a chance of standing for long and after I spent time trying to get the cake to stand up, the head fell off again (picture). I'm extremely disappointed. I had planned this baby shower for over two months and was very excited to surprise my wife with this centerpiece. I would never recommend Meraki Cake Designs, nor Mark Hill as a cake designer. After this $281 nightmare, put your hard-earned money and trust into a designer shop that excels at end-to-end customer experience and understands how to build custom cakes that don't crumble.

I had the best experience with Meraki. I asked for a custom cake and within an hour had everything set up with Mark. The cake was beautiful, and tasted delicious! I would recommend them to anyone.

Amazing cupcakes from Meraki Cakes & Bakes

I live in Southern California and found Meraki Cakes and Bakes online. I called them about creating something for a good friend's birthday. It was for a Sunday delivery and during the course of conversation I found out that they were going to be really busy on Sunday and were not going to be able to bake a cake at the last minute, however Mark suggested some cupcakes. I asked if they had any cakes already baked and ready for sale, and Mark explained that they baked as ordered, so all their products are fresh, and everything is made from scratch. The dozen cupcakes that I ordered were delivered on time, and the person who delivered them even took the time to explain the various flavors to my friend, the birthday girl. They turned out to be delightful and my dear friend was thrilled to receive them. She said that they were eaten very quickly, although she described them as "Too beautiful to eat!" She said that the flavors were amazing, and her guests enjoyed them as well. Mark not only sent me a receipt for my order by text, he also took a pic of the finished product and texted it to me after the delivery was made. What wonderful service, and an amazing product! I'll definitely be ordering from Meraki again!

Been meaning to write this review for a while! I met with Mark for my little boys 1 year cake smash, I brought photos of what I wanted and Mark made the most adorable cake and matching cupcakes! He is truly talented! Not to mentions easy to work with and just a super nice guy! See you for the holidays and next birthday!! Oh forgot to add that the cake and cupcakes were delicious and I BINGED on Macarons!!!

I cannot recommend Meraki Cakes enough! My husband and I live in Texas but had a destination wedding in Golden, CO. Our chosen venue could only create very simple cakes and I knew I wanted to surprise my husband with an amazing cake that captures his personality. When I contacted Mark and explained my situation and my vision for the cake he was quick to respond and worked with me to design the perfect cake within my budget all via email. Fast forward to the wedding day, the cake was more amazing then I could have imagined! As awesome as it looked from the outside it was twice as good to eat! I actually preferred it over our wedding cake. My husband and I got so many compliments, and everyone loved it! Needless to say my expectations were far exceeded! You won't go wrong choosing Meraki Cakes & Bakes for your special cake! For reference: cake is chocolate with chocolate icing, white fondant and the "lid" was rice crispy (which everyone also loved)

I ended up getting quiche for myself, pepperoni pizza for my wife as well as a plain croissant, chocolate pistachio croissant and maple cinnamon bun. The quiche was just okay in my opinion but everything else was stand out. My wife loved the pizza and the homemade ranch is AMAZING. The chocolate pistachio croissant was tasty, very flakey. The cinnamon bun was also very good but the frosting was a bit sweeter for my taste. A must visit if you're considering a solid bakery!

I had it saved but couldn't quite remember why...until we turned the corner and saw a line out the door around noon on a Sunday. Normally that might be a dealbreaker, but once we saw the food coming out, we were all in, it looked way too good to pass up. The menu is stacked: everything from sweet pastries to savory sandwiches and even pizzas on what looked like fresh, fluffy focaccia. I went with the prosciutto sandwich (prosciutto, cheese, pesto on focaccia), and it was incredible--simple, fresh, and packed with flavor. My girlfriend had the ham sandwich on a baguette, which was just as good. We were also tempted by the turkey and some seasonal options, so we'll definitely be back to try more. We couldn't leave without grabbing a couple pastries. The almond croissant was a hit (my girlfriend saved it for the next morning and loved it), and the standout for me was the cinnamon white chocolate cookie--kind of like a snickerdoodle but with white chocolate chips. Easily a top tier cookie. Between the quality, variety, and how clearly everything is made with care, this place jumped straight to the top of my list. Worth the wait, worth the hype, and absolutely worth a return trip.

We finally decided to check out the shopping and dining district. Rheinlander was our final (and best!) stop. The bakery dates back to 1963 and is now on the third generation of ownership. The quality is certainly being maintained at a high level. This is a traditional, German bakery with a huge variety of authentic European cakes, cupcakes, sweet and savory pastries, pies, cookies, coffee cakes, and the only reason I think a German bakery should exist--strudel! Strudels are available whole, half, or by the slice. The usual flavors are apple, cherry, blueberry cream cheese, cherry cream cheese, and Boston cream. We bought slices of the apple, cherry, and blueberry cream cheese. These were perfection and absolutely delightful. I was totally focused on the strudel case (yes, there's a lot of strudel on offer), but I believe there are eight huge cases of treats, each one looking more enticing than the next. Quite a few gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free options are available, so if that's what you need, this is the place for you. The bakery was moderately busy during our visit. There was plenty of staff and they were all friendly, helpful, and very efficient, so purchases moved swiftly. Lots of coffee and drink options are available. There's nice outside seating if you can't wait to take your goodies home. It's a long drive for us, but we were really impressed and we'll find a reason to visit Arvada so we can stop back soon. Yum.
