Still family owned, Ali is the lovely family member I spoke with, there was so much to see besides the scrumptious, pastries, and the array of "Wedding Cakes!" The Chalet is a drift into a NeverLand, with an ancient (antique) huge mixing bowl stationed perfectly outside between a Few Watchful Gargoyles! Above the windows are several Military photos of Army or Marine men sending their "Smiling Thanks" for receiving such delights. This is "Heart Felt" yet everything about this place touches the heart. They have reserved tables, the place is very busy. Signage for fresh Eggs and Local Beef, the Kitchen is open to see the busy workers crafting their delicious art. My husband wanted to get a treat and thought of going to Das Meyer. It had been a bit since we were there. Note, they are cash or in-state check only. They do have an ATM on site. We each picked a cookie, he got peanut butter and I got a pistachio cookie half-dipped in chocolate and rolled in crushed pistachios. We also got a slice of key lime bar for our son. The person who helped us was pleasant and welcoming. She answered questions about various items. I like all the gargoyles scattered around the property. They also have an impressive plant that stretches in all directions across the ceiling. The cookies were delicious and our son really enjoyed his key lime. This was a lovely experience. read more

I have fallen in love with Das Meyer. After going to a couple of, for lack of a better word, intense wedding cake tastings, Das Meyer was a breath of fresh air. Their cake tasting process is so easy, you ask for a slot in a Saturday tasting, show up with $20 and taste away. They make it as minimally overwhelming as possible by bringing you a few flavors at a time and not making you taste every single flavor they offer, just the ones you're interested in. This brings me to the cake. It's fabulous. The wedding cake flavor was something we weren't finding at other bakeries but Das Meyer NAILED it. The other flavors are also divine. We ended up getting almond silk (wedding cake flavor), chocolate Carmel, and cookies and cream for our wedding cake. They decorated our cake to perfection, exactly like the photos I showed them. And what I was really impressed by was that when we came to taste and talk about our cake, they gave us an accurate quote right down to the penny including tax and delivery fee and every single thing we were going to be charged for. So straight forward, I love it! You can tell they really know what they're doing, they have beautiful wedding cakes, plus thank you notes with pictures of cakes all over the bakery. The ambiance is also perfect. You feel like you're walking back in time when you step through the door, in the best way. We have made a habit of visiting for a delicious (and very nicely priced) breakfast pastry from time to time because I love going there so much! Forgive the gushing but after going to a couple different places, Das Meyer made me feel like Goldie Locks and I had found the wedding cake bakery that was just right for me, it's so nice when wedding vendors click that easily. Purchased a Boston Cream Chocolate cake with lettering yesterday for my mother's 89th birthday celebration. The cake was beautifully decorated; however, it was dry, stale and uneatable. Our family has always enjoyed cakes from this bakery in the past, what an absolute disappointment this was. When you make a purchase from a pricey "Fine Pastry Chalet" you should have a reasonable expectation that the product will be at least fresh if not both fresh and delicious. I have been getting cakes made here for all my special occasions. The cakes are the best I've ever had anywhere. However, that's not the only treats I pick up at Das Meyers. On Fridays and Saturdays they will have savory pastries that are just incredible! They will be ham & cheese, spinach and feta cheese, sausage cheddar and more. I love everything they make. But the very best part is the owners and their staff. Everyone there is helpful and greeting you with a smile and much courtesy and friendliness. I picked up my fourth cake from Das Meyer last Saturday. a half sheet cake with cream cheese filling. The occasion was my niece's sixty fifth birthday. True to form it was decorated beautifully. But the pastry chef might as well of decorated memory foam. People were taking pictures of the cake but after serving it I noticed almost whole pieces in the trash. I tried a piece and it was terrible. Dry and absolutely no flavor. I think they must make the cakes ahead and freeze them and frost per order. This one missed rotation by about a year. I called and the employee was very apologetic. I thought I might get a call back from someone a little higher up but I guess they had my hundred and fourteen dollars and customer service not a priority. We are outdoorsy types, so we really like to get outside and be a part of nature. I called them up and explained that I wanted a birthday cake that really captures the outdoor beauty of Colorado. I explained that we love Colorado sunsets, snow capped mountains, streams that flow into mountain lakes, evergreen trees and of course the state flower, the columbines. I wasn't really expecting much, given all the things I listened. Honestly, I was expecting the person on the phone to decline my request altogether. But they took the cake design request as a challenge and wow! They knocked it out of the park!! I was completely blown away with the cake! Our wedding cake was absolutely beautiful and I was surprised with how much I loved it. Niwot Florist supplied the flowers and Das Meyer did the arranging and decorating. I know people don't like talking about how much they spent on their wedding, but when I was researching I always wanted to know the price. We had three tiers and three flavors: berries in a cloud, chocolate caramel, and carrot cake. Since these were all specialty flavors they cost a little more. The total for 100 servings with delivery to Boulder cost us a tad over $500. It was completely worth it. I can't wait to get our (included) one year anniversary cake! P.S. This cake deserves zero to 1 stars. I'm giving the bakery 2 stars because the customer service was good, and I would even give them 3 except that I know from previous reviewers that they will not give refunds, so I'm sticking with 2. I wish I could give this place more stars because our cake was beautiful, but unfortunately, the cake itself was basically a dry, tasteless block of bread, topped with icing. $50 isn't a ton of money, but it's way too much to buy something inedible. I went in on a Saturday because I had read online that you could do cake tasting on Saturdays. I planned to buy an expensive cake for my daughter's 16th birthday and I wanted to be sure it was a good one (I had a cake disaster on her 13th birthday and I didn't want to repeat it). They wouldn't allow me to taste even ONE flavor of cake, simply because I wasn't getting married. If you buy a tiered cake (a multi-layered cake...like a wedding cake, but for some other occasion), they will charge you the wedding cake price ($6.50/slice I believe). So, even though you can order a "wedding" cake, and they will charge you for a wedding cake, they will not allow you to taste the cake unless you're one of the chosen who has found love for life. So, I changed my plan and opted for just one layer of the "wedding" cake. I was having a really hard time deciding on a flavor, and the woman who helped me was nice enough to try and describe the flavors to me (though she would not reach behind her and grab a small bite sized square for me to try, even though plates full of samples were being passed around behind me for other people to eat). She even asked some other people who worked there to help her describe flavors to me. I settled on a basic white cake with buttercream frosting, because we all know what white cake tastes like, and you can't mess that up. Well....they did. My daughter took the first bite of her cake last night, and was so disappointed. The rest of us tried it afterwards and the cake was so dry and flavorless (except the icing, which by itself was good), that we threw our slices in the trash. If I hadn't already read a review that said they tried returning their cake and were refused a refund, I would take the rest of our cake back to them today and ask for one (we still have the whole cake minus the 3 pieces that went in the trash). $50 is a lot of money to spend on a decoration piece, which is all this was good for (and it WAS beautiful!) Top that off with the fact I had to make 3 trips here; an hour and 10 minute round trip each time (one to order, one to drop off the ribbon for the cake, and one to pick up), and that made it extra not worth it. I've heard good things about this bakery and their cakes really do look amazing. Perhaps their other flavors would have been better, and had I been allowed to enter the secret society of married people, they would have allowed me to make sure I liked the flavor I chose before I picked it, and we would have been ecstatic about the cake, and become repeat customers for all our future birthdays (I was in fact really excited to find a bakery that makes such pretty cakes outside of Denver proper). But, I will not return, and as it is, have already warned folks who I previously suggested use this bakery, not to do it, because I don't want it to reflect poorly on me if someone's $500 wedding cake is a dud. My suggestion to this bakery is that they shouldn't discriminate against customers just because they aren't getting married. They are planning to spend their hard earned money on your cake just like everyone else, and they want it to be memorable because it was beautiful and delicious, not because they feel disappointed that they threw money in the trash and gave someone a cake for an occasion that they couldn't swallow. This cake goes down as the 2nd worst cake I have ever eaten. The bakery that made the 1st one went out of business (that one was really bad). I have to assume the other flavors are much better, because there's no way this place would still be in business if all their flavors tasted this horrible. Picture a nice firm foam filled mattress topped with a delicious homemade icing and some pretty bows and sprinkles. That was our cake. I'll post photos of our cake. This is absolutely the most fantastic place I think we could have gone for our wedding cake, which we wanted to be perfect and intrinsically ours. They absolutely knocked it out of the park, taking our request for a special redesign of one of their signature pieces and making it special. We went in a couple times for their samples to try and couldn't find a flavor we didn't like; in fact, it was hard to choose between all the flavors we loved! The service was always top-notch and friendly, and we ended up choosing the Bailey's chocolate cake and the Toll House chocolate chip cake for our layers. It was amazing, they brought it successfully up the mountain roads to our wedding and reception venue, and we couldn't have been happier with the design or execution. For our first anniversary, I called to order an anniversary cake to celebrate and they did it up for free! I was absolutely floored.
