Meraki Room is my favorite salon in the city by far! As you walk in, the front desk staff will ask if you want anything to drink to start off your session. I've had both my hair cut and colored here and always have always walked away super happy with the outcome - beautiful color blending and always up to date with popular styles. Then, one day I met one of the staff Lauren at the studio across the street that I work at and she told me she works there. I had been looking for a colorist for years! I have been a client of Meraki Room since I moved to Chicago in the summer of 2018. I love this salon and all of the ladies so much! A few of them have become friends and I so look forward to coming and miss it when I am between appointments! I get hair color (highlights) and haircuts done by Dani, and Claire often assists and is my other go-to. For my Wedding in November, I had a hair trial from another company (Pin Me Up) and it did not go well. I was asking for Dani & Claire's advice and Claire offered to jump in and do my bridal hair the day of my wedding! She practiced on me right then and there, then practiced on other girls at the salon before the big day. She brought a beautiful bubbly energy to my bridal suite and did an amazing job with my hair! She also helped fix a bridesmaid's hair after the aforementioned company didn't do the style she wanted. The salon, the employees and the general happy vibe is amazing here. I haven't been this happy with my hair in a long time. The first time I made an appointment with Taya was shortly after I moved to Chicago and I was nervous because until then, my entire life, the same person had cut my hair (like gave me my first hair cut when I was a baby). But naturally I liked the way Taya cut my hair even more than my old stylist! I've been seeing her ever since! All the girls here are great though. My hair is probably pretty easy to cut but my Puerto Rican friend has long dark curly hair and I brought her here and she loved Diana's work too! The team at the Meraki Room were recommended to my by a very good friend who also used them for their own wedding a few years ago. I happened to be in that wedding as well so I knew that they could work wonders on my hair, which is thin, flat and uncooperative. My hair refuses to hold curls or much of any hair style really, and suddenly I was going to ask it to stay curled not only for several hours of photos, but also for a full night of dancing and moving around. I was also going to ask it to hold up a heavy jeweled comb and a netted veil. I did not know how this would happen. For the trial run at their studio in Chicago (super cute/super trendy studio that looked too cool for me but did not feel to cool for me) I brought the hair pieces that I already purchased for the big day. I also brought in some photos of some looks I liked. The trial went great. Dani was a delight to chat with and she made my hair and hair pieces all work. She assured me that the day of would not be an issue, and the curls would stay. After seeing what she did in an hour I did not doubt her. When the wedding day came somehow they managed to give me the curly, bouncy wedding hair I wanted and they made the veil and the comb (which I had trouble figuring out how to make work as a collective unit) stay upright and adorable all day! Dani and her fellow hair artist (I forgot your name, please forgive me! You were great) drove out to our Air B&B in Plainfield and did the hair of 7 women within a set time. And everyone looked amazing. I highly recommend them for wedding services! read more

The staff is incredibly friendly and offers you a variety of beverages upon arrival (wine included )...a good sign! The highlight of this salon trip is the wash/scalp massage. You're taken to a quiet room where you can truly relax - instead of being out in the salon with a lot of noise. It was a perfect way to wind down at the end of the week! The three lovely ladies (Dani, Diana and Taya) behind Meraki Room are incredible on their own, so just imagine their combined star power for a second. Yep - it's basically a salon supernova! I'm a huge fan of the space. The new Meraki Room is stunning, in that California-clean, minimalist sort of way. I fawned over all the custom pieces that Diana and Dani's fathers made - seriously, I want to commission these crafty guys to design and build furniture for my apartment! Lots of reclaimed wood mixed with metal for that industrial chic look. I'm also digging the artisan product line they use, Davines which hails from Parma, Italy. These products look good, work well, are sulfate-free, green-friendly AND they smell fantastic. So yeah, this line fulfills all of my requirements which results in a "good hair day" every single day! It was a difficult decision as I'm well aware of the incredible results all 3 of these ladies deliver, but I chose Dani because her hair is super cool-toned. As a balayaged blond that struggles with a bit of recurring brassiness, I know Dani won't be afraid to go cooler than cool when it comes to my mane's tone. On this visit, I just needed a haircut but I'm returning for that balayage this week. But back to the cut - Dani removed a ton of weight, so now my hair swings instead of hanging like dead weight (it's crazy thick). I'm really specific when it comes to my hair cuts - no layers, for one - and Dani happily fulfilled all of my requests (yes, a stylist that really listens!). She also gave me the best fringe trim I've had in over a year. My bangs now lay the way they're supposed to, without having to painfully coax them every time I blow dry my hair. My haircut (including a relaxing shoulder and neck massage and round brush blowout + style) came to a reasonable $75. Congrats again to this talented trio and the rest of their staff! Meraki Room is incredible! Taya has been cutting my hair for years and I am so excited for her, Dani, and Diana to have a salon of their own. The decor is beautiful and relaxing. And - huge perk - it doesn't smell like a hair salon! When you walk in, you are not overwhelmed with the scent of hair dye and hairspray. Instead, it just smells fresh and calming. I love that they've selected more natural hair products. Now let's talk about the services. Taya's haircuts and styling are perfection. Seriously, perfection. I always walk away feeling amazing and loving my hair. Last night she gave me a great round brush blowout after my cut, and this morning my hair still looked bouncy and incredible. But let me rewind - the shampoos here are THE BEST. I said I would come here just to get my hair washed. The scalp/neck/shoulder massage during is so relaxing and refreshing, and my hair is delightfully clean and soft afterwards. LOVE! Just a tip re: logistics of getting here - the salon is slightly closer to the Damen Blue line stop than Division, but you can take a bus from Division down to the salon. Street parking looked like it would be difficult during the day, but when I left the salon at 7pm, it was pretty open. read more

The salon has tons of natural light which makes it easy to assess how happy you are with your color etc. The shampoo room and scalp massage are a treat. This salon is amazing! The space is very cozy, chic and modern. The entire staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I was greeted immediately as I entered the salon and one of the owners (Dani) introduced herself and gave me a tour of the salon- I've never gotten that experience before at any other salons in Chicago. I see Natalie and she's a hair stylist extraordinaire! I followed her from Hair Loft in the west loop. Being new to the city and after trying several high end salons in Chicago, I was always disappointed with the prices and the quality of work I would get. I got my hair done with Natalie for the first time, cut and color, and she nailed it on her first try! I have Asian hair, which can be tricky to dye, and previous experiences with other stylists, the color never comes out quite right and takes 2-3 attempt to get the color/shading I want. After my first experience with Natalie, I have always come back to her for all my hair needs. She also introduced me to Olaplex conditioning treatments, which has brought new life back to my colored hair. The prices here are so reasonable and I love that!
