Extra credit because she trimmed my bangs like 4 times because I kept changing my mind - she never once seemed frustrated or even bothered by my requests. Wow! I had such a wonderful experience and received the best haircut I ever got, today with Adam at their Southport location. Upon entry I was welcomed in every sense of the word. I had my coat checked, was served a delicious coffee and had a great friendly conversation with the receptionist. I noticed how clean and calming the space is. Adam is extremely talented and knowledgeable which became very clear when we went over what I was looking for. It had been a very long time since I got my haircut, yet he was able to read into how I've gotten my hair cut in the past and seamlessly match that with what I'm looking for in this visit. Lauren is a GENIUS. seriously, absolutely the best haircut of my life. she clearly knows exactly what she's doing and will make sure you do too. I rlly respect and appreciate how much she listened to me, despite the fact that i went in very pretty open to her suggestion, i was surprised by how understood i felt by her. also, i got the sense that she truly cared that i love my haircut and i rlly do. she explained what she was doing when she was styling it too so that i could do it at home. it's hard to explain but it was just such a different feeling of attentiveness than ive experienced before. also, two other friends recommended her to me before I went so i already felt good about her, but she surpassed even that expectation. i don't generally laud hair stylists and have really struggled with my hair - i just want to say genuinely i am so excited to have found her and i wld recommend her to anyone. but for reference, I have thick, coarse, wavy hair which ive found hard to manage and now it feels like a whole aspect of my life /appearance has changed for the better!!! The salon reached out to me ahead of my appointment to request reference pictures and see what I had in mind for my color. Literally never had a salon do this before and thought this was so brilliant. When I arrived my stylist, Lauren, had clearly reviewed the photos I'd provided and had a good sense for how we could get me to the color I wanted. She listened to all my ideas and I left the salon with the best color and cut I've had in YEARS! Weeks later, I'm writing this review because I still can't get over how much I love my hair! I made an appointment with the owner and "master stylist" as I was recommended to her. However, once I arrived I was switched to another stylist without any notice. An email or text would have been nice. I ended up with a junior stylist who did a mediocre and lopsided cut. When I called to book with her to re-do and even out the cut, I was told they would need to charge me again. My only option was to have the owner recut it without charge. This really made no sense because the owner who I originally wanted was not available and supposedly was leaving the salon. Anyway, the owner and "master stylist" re-cut my hair only to make matters worse! I cannot recommend this salon whether it be a junior stylist or the even owner "master styist". I had to go elsewhere to get it completely corrected. The space is uninviting and not welcoming. The stylists and owner unskilled and hurried. read more

PSA: Best experience ever!! I called LP after leaving another salon crying yesterday. The other salon took a ton off my hair and it was completely uneven by inches. I called LP still frantic and Courtney worked me into her schedule. Not only did she correct my cut but did an incredible color correction too! I had a terrible experience here. My stylist, Kevin, was extremely rude to me. After the consultation, they would not even try to engage in polite conversation when I tried. I don't need a comedy show or therapist while I'm getting a haircut, but they acted extremely stuck up and rolled their eyes when I tried to speak to them. Haircut is fine but customer service was disappointing. We got off on a bad foot because I was late, to be fair. My train station was closed and I had to take an alternate route. I called as soon as I knew I couldn't make it on time in case I needed to reschedule. They said it should be fine if I was less than 15 minutes late. I arrived 11 minutes late. At the front my stylist "greeted" me and made out as though should've rescheduled based on salon policy but she was squeezing me in still. I apologized again for being late but said that I was only 11 minutes late and called ahead to confirm that I could still attend. She then got defensive and said "okay but I'm only quoting salon policy we just need to hurry because I booked back to back." The appointment was sour after that. She rushed and was rough on my head. Even if I hadn't been late I think that would've been the most rushed hair appt I've had in a long time. Is 45 minutes standard for a women's haircut? Anyway, obviously my fault for being late but it was a bad customer service experience. The appropriate time to try to tell me to reschedule was when I called ahead.I wouldn't warn away but I wouldn't come back either. read more

I started going to Lavender Park about a year ago and I could not be more impressed. The salon is easily accessible for any Lincoln park/Lakeview residents, it's a very chic boutique environment, and prices are competitive with the area. They accept tips electronically, which has been helpful for me. I personally go to Courtney and I couldn't possibly be happier that I found her! She is quick, detailed, and always gets my cut and color exactly the way I want - and in the time of Pinterest photos and Instagram filters, I'm sure that's not easy!! I've gone all over the spectrum of color with her - from super blonde all the way to chocolate brown - and I always leave feeling fresh amazing. Run, don't walk, to book an appointment with her. The whole staff is super friendly and the COVID protocols in place always make me feel very comfortable. I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could! read more

I wanted to like this place, but from the start it wasn't the greatest experience. I was brought back to get my hair washed before my stylist even took a look at my hair, which I feel is an important step because it's a chance to explain what you're looking for. My stylist was simultaneously working on two other clients - which I understand sometimes happens during busy times, but it made the experience feel rushed and distracted. There was no styling at the end of the appointment and when I expressed hesitation with part of the haircut, it was brushed aside and I was told it would grow in. I wish there had been a bit more problem solving and discussion around what could work. I left feeling disappointed. read more

I was looking for a place to get my hair done in the city and had heard so much about Lavender Park. All of my roommates had gone before and always came back satisfied and recommending their services. So, I decided to pull the trigger and schedule and an appointment before graduation. And let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. I absolutely loved my experience at Lavender Park! The staff were welcoming and engaging and the location is adorable. Very accessible from the red and brown line as well. I booked with Kayla for a balayage and was SO happy with the results. I could tell she really took her time to make sure it was up to her (and my!) standards. Also she took time in the beginning during the consultation portion of the appointment to make sure she understood what I was looking for and even asked if I had inspo pics (my prior hair stylist seemed insulted when I suggested I had pictures to show them so this was a huge green flag). While the balayage usually takes a while, I felt like no time passed at all. Kayla is a great conversationalist and genuinely seemed like she wanted to know more about my life (I told her I was getting my hair done for graduate so we chatted about that!). My first time at Lavender Park (today) was absolutely fabulous! I moved to Chicago just about a year ago and have really been needing a haircut. I have long hair and it's always so scary to find someone new. After reading some of the nice reviews, I decided to give it a shot. My stylist, Monique was simply amazing from start to finish. She took the time to get to know me and helped me decide what to do with my hair. She also gave the most relaxing head massage while washing my hair. There's a first time for everything, right? When my stylist, Krista, moved from her old salon to Lavender Park, I decided to follow her. Never in my life have I ever followed a stylist, so I think it says something that I followed Krista. About 5 years ago, I started getting my hair cut using the Deva method. There are a small, but growing number of stylists in the area that are Curly Whisperers. I've seen a number of them and like Krista best. It's not just her skill I adore, but it's also that she's a genuinely great person; easy to talk to, knows what my hair needs before I do, etc. I liked her old salon just fine, but really like her new one for a few reasons. First, and selfishly, it's very close to my house. Second, parking is a bit easier here. Third, and this one is important, you can do almost everything (except get your hair cut and styled) on their website. I love that I can book an appointment when it's convenient to me because it seems like that's always Sunday or Monday, when they are closed. Last, the salon itself is really nice. Everyone I've encountered is friendly, there are good magazines to read while under the blowdryer, they use high quality products and the decor is a rustic-industrial. Bottom line, if you've got curly hair and you dread getting your hair cut and styled by someone who just doesn't get it - run, don't walk here. read more

I cannot recommend Linnea enough! I have never had a full balayage before and I wasn't sure which blonde colors would look best. Linnea did such a great job asking questions that gave her the information to know what I liked and helped me understand my options. HOW has it taken me 2 years to review Lavender Park??? Seriously! This salon is awesome - you can just tell when you walk in for the 1st time that it has a chill vibe. Everyone who works here is friendly, and it's a beautiful spot. There is a nail salon and a Mexican restaurant next door, so super convenient and up my alley. My stylist/colorist has been Molly Dugan from the get-go. I guess I have a track record of choosing the hip, tatted-up chicks to do my hair? My previous stylist for 8+ years was also a beautiful, tattooed angel. What can I say? I trust Molly 200%! I always leave Lavender Park feeling like a million bucks. She is G-R-E-A-T! Molly isn't a pushy product pusher stylist; she is an artist. You can tell she loves what she does. I will tell Molly what I am feeling at the moment and a guide of what I want, how short, color, etc... my biggest thing is "low maintenance." I am not the "every 6 weeks" kinda gal... I like color that grows out naturally, and a cut that I can stretch to 4 months if needed; minimal blow drying necessary. Molly gets me! She always freshens my look, and I know I can trust her without micro-managing how she colors my hair. I wasn't even nervous when I let Molly take me the most blonde I've ever gone... she just puts me at ease. I have to say LP's prices are very reasonable and competitive for the Chicago/ Lincoln Park/ Lakeview area. I know people who pay a lot more than I do, and their hair looks half as good as mine. Kevin Pierce has been my stylist for many years and I never leave an appointment with him disappointed. My favorite thing about him is that he is always willing to try new things and is super informative about the process. For example-- I have SUPER dark hair and he somehow transformed me into a very light blonde after a few sessions (so that we did it properly and all my hair wouldn't fall out from the drastic change). Since I am so devoted to him, when he left his previous salon for Lavender Park, I followed him here (didn't hurt that this new location is a brisk 15 minute walk from my apartment). I have visited the salon a handful of times and I my experience is always great. The moment you walk in, there is a friendly face to greet you whether it's the receptionist or one of the other stylists. Most of the salons I've been to in the past have a very sterile feel to them and I often feel out of place but that is never the case at Lavender Park! The salon has a neighborhood vibe and I feel like I've been coming here for years. So thankful for this Lincoln Park gem. read more

I showed a picture of my desired balayage look to the colorist, Molly, and described what I wanted. We agreed on the details - sun-kissed look, no brassiness, and I wanted to remain a brunette with some lighter pieces throughout. My hair looked like I had dipped my head into copper after the balayage. The owner Jane came over as my hair was being blow dried and I explained that the result was not what I wanted. I showed her the same picture I showed Molly, and Jane says "well this could never have been achieved because the base color in the picture is darker than yours." Cool. Wonder why a stylist would tell me this after lightening most of my hair into an unspeakable rust color. Molly was very nice, understanding that she had done everything I had asked her not to do, and said she'd go ahead and try to fix it by adding some "highlight, low light". What I didn't realize was that she'd add some incredibly uneven foil highlights and lowlights that are not and do not pass for anything like a balayage look. I came out of there looking like mid-2000s Kate Gosselin, went home and cried. The next day I came back and Jane had the audacity to laugh at me during the conversation ("lightening the mood") and ask me why I was angry. I got a full refund, however, I'm going to have to spend hundreds to get my hair back to looking the way it did before I ever walked into Lavender Park. read more

Overall, Lavender Park is a nice salon and a good option for students or young professionals in the Lincoln Park and Lakeview area. I think, perhaps due to the pandemic, a slight lack of staff support hinders this salon from providing an OK customer experience from a great one. I came in for a full highlight, and being my first time, showed my stylist, Courtney, an example of what I was looking for and took my time to explain what I typically requested at my last salon. Courtney did a good job of juggling several different clients at one time, but had to lean on the receptionist/office manager to wash, tone and blow dry my hair. This employee -- who was very kind as well, but did not appear to be a professional stylist -- received a little bit of coaching from Courtney when toning my hair. The highlight turned out well, more prominent and ashy/grey then I was expecting, but I think will even out and blend nicely after a few washes. I left the salon with about 90% of my hair dry, unstyled and without product, but was not a big deal as it was raining that day. I only note this as other salons I have visited typically style your hair following a color and shampoo service. The price point, however, for a nice salon in Chicago, was very fair, and the staff did a great job with sanitizing and cleaning between clients. I may try out a different salon the next time I get my hair done, but enjoyed the friendly staff and nice location at Lavender Park. read more

First time getting a service at this salon and I loved it! I came in for a haircut with Maggie. She's doing her apprenticeship and I definitely think she's ready to hit the floor. She took her time during the consult and immediately determined that I needed a deep conditioning mask. My hair is pretty damaged from recently getting it colored a month ago elsewhere. My first time at Lavendar park went really well! I got an amazing haircut and color. However, things quickly went down hill at my second appointment. Not only was my hairstylist rather rude, but they completely disregarded my desire not to have my hair thinned out. On top of this, at some point hair dye had been spilled down the back of my white sweatshirt. While mistakes happen, both my stylist and the receptionist saw my back and did not alert me to the fact that dye had ruined my top. I only learned of the dye on my shirt when I went home and had it pointed out by my significant other. I will not be returning. read more

I am a Molly devotee! I met Molly a year and a half ago after spending years asking various stylists to color my hair an icy blonde and ending up with a variety of light brown/ dirty blonde tones. She listened carefully and two hours later, I had the color of my dreams. It was hard to believe Molly could be that spot-on, but I didn't ask questions! I have been back to see Molly like clockwork every 6 weeks to keep up the color which has been exactly as I've asked each time. She also cuts my hair and is a hoot to hang out with, which makes the time fly. This place is amazing! I've only been a couple times -- once for just a simple wash and blow out, and another time for a haircut and blow out -- and both times have been phenomenal. The salon is beautiful and clean, the service by both the stylists and the hostess is quick and attentive, and their staff are so knowledgable and friendly. They also have a great social media presence, so you can do some research before you commit to an appointment with them. I typically work with Madilyn, and she is so good with my hair and so knowledgable. She takes time to ask you what you're looking for and talks it out with you to make sure you come out with exactly what you want, and she's very up to date on the salon's products and current hairstyle trends, so she can make some really good suggestions to you if you're not totally sure what will work well for your hair (loving my new layers). I've been to several places looking for someone who can handle extremely dense, curly hair like mine and give me a blow out with minimal frizz, and Madilyn was such a rockstar. By the end of both appointments, I looked like a totally different person. My hair was soft, well-styled, and shiny with very few fly aways (which is generally a huge issue for me). She's also just a very nice person and lots of fun to chat with, so the time really flies by. read more
