I stopped by for a frothy cappuccino made by a friendly barista. She used Italian imported Bristot Buongusto Medium Blend Coffee Beans to make the drink which had that very distinctive bittersweet taste typical of Italian style coffee. It rang in at about $6 and made for a decent coffee break. There are two other bakery locations run by the same family in Markham and Scarborough. All three locations are unique and worth a visit.

It took me a while to figure out what this store was while sitting on the patio across the street, since I couldn't see the sign from the angle I was at. But I noticed many people coming out from the shop with these amazing looking sandwiches and food items. Obviously I had to pop in to see what this store was all about! It's an Italian bakery with half the store being a little market where they sell non-perishable food items such as pasta, sauce, jams, etc. The other half of the store sold hot foods and prepared foods such as sandwiches, pizza, pasta. They also have a small selection of artisan cheeses there too. I was really intrigued by all the different dry pastas and sauces the store had to offer because it carried a lot of items you don't usually find in your regular day to day grocery store. I ended buying a 2 foot long dry pasta to take home, only to realize I don't have a pot big enough to cook it in - oops! Overall, I thought my experience was great here since it was something new and sold all these amazing Italian goodies. I bought a couple of buns as a customer since then and I'm hooked! Bun Appetit is located at Commerce Gate. It's located closer to Highway 7. It's around the corner from Kinton Ramen, which I have been to a handful of times during the pandemic to pick up good eats. I found a parking spot steps away from Bun Appetit on a Wednesday evening at around 6:15 pm and backed in to it. It's easier to find parking when it's a weekday, in the afternoon. Bun Appetit's breads are naturally fermented for 168 hours. I liked that all buns and breads are gut-friendly and low on the glycemic index. I'm always interested in lower sugar options. I have sampled these items: - Baguette - Whole wheat walnut vegan bun - Lychee bun - Raisin earl grey bun - Oreo chocolate delight bun - Matcha pistachio pretzel - Whole wheat German pretzel - Yeast loaf with Nutella They were all delicious. They were soft and airy. My favourites were the whole wheat walnut vegan bun and the Oreo chocolate delight bun (also known as the messy hands bun). The former had whole walnuts that were so crunchy and fresh. The bread was chewy and soft. The messy hands bun used dark chocolate. It was also fluffy and soft. It lived up to its name. I had messy fingers just eating a morsel! It has 9 g of sugar, which is practically nothing being fermented. I liked how unique the flavours were. I loved the smell of the lychee bun. I wish it had lychee pieces in it. Instead, it was wine-infused and that flavour overpowered everything. I loved the yeast loaf with Nutella as a dessert option. I nearly picked up a loaf after this event was over! As a parting snack, I got the truffle mushroom one. It was the last one. I love mushrooms. It was super delicious with truffle oil, enoki mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and melted cheeses on top. The bun was soft and perfect. It was such a gourmet bun. I have since returned to get more buns: - Strawberry beetroot - Chocolate arancia The strawberry beetroot bun was fluffy. I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise and joy, it had whole strawberries in it. Wow and yay! I love fruit, but I wasn't expecting so much of it in this bun. I loved it. It was naturally sweet from the strawberries. The beetroot wasn't noticeable in flavour. I feel it added colour to the triangular bun more than anything. The chocolate arancia was equally as unique slicing it in half. This bun had candied orange bits in it. It tasted so good with the chocolate morsels on top and the subtle chocolate flavour in the bun itself. It was delicious. I need to return for more. One of the things that originally made Bready stand out for me when it opened was the pancakes. They were exceptionally light and airy, with a texture that reminded me of Japanese-style soufflé pancakes. On this visit, however, they seemed much denser and closer to conventional pancakes. I'm not sure whether the recipe has changed or whether this was simply an off morning, but it wasn't the experience I'd come to expect. There were also a couple of aspects of the service that I think could be improved. The pancakes took long enough to prepare that my coffee was either cold or already finished by the time they reached the table. Going back to the counter to buy another coffee isn't a great solution because the pancakes then begin cooling while you're waiting in line for that second cup. It might help if customers ordering pancakes were asked whether they'd prefer their coffee served with the meal, or if staff simply checked whether they'd like a fresh coffee when the pancakes are ready. I was also surprised that butter isn't served with the pancakes unless requested. When I asked for it, it arrived straight from the refrigerator, so it was too cold and hard to spread easily or melt onto the hot pancakes. A small dish of room-temperature butter would make a noticeable difference. I'm writing this because Bready has been one of my favourite breakfast spots, and I'd genuinely like to see it continue to excel. I hope this visit was an exception rather than a sign that things have changed.

They have many locations around the GTA, so I suspect the pastries are bakes elsewhere and have to be distributed to their various locations. Because they aren't baked in house, I found the pastries lack freshness. I was disappointed that the beef in the bureka was served cold and the other 2 pastries didn't have the crispy bite I usually enjoy with fresh pastries.

I liked their croissant but I think if they heated it up before serving, that'd ascend it to the next level. It could also be crisper. I'd like more savoury flavours. The bakery itself is small and I've seen lots of people come in for their breads. It's a very cozy vibe and cute! A good spot to get a quick treat as you're enjoying the walk down main street.
