I had a miserable experience here years ago but went back in today for help after hitting a nail yesterday and busting a tire. Rafa and Bradley were AMAZING. I feel so lucky they were there and helped me quickly and affordably. Bradley was able to remove the small nail and patch the tire ... incredible ... and Rafa was all over letting me know the status and providing an easy experience for payment at check-out (I waited next door at the new coffee place called Urban Sailor - so convenient for working while waiting). Mercer has all sorts of hit and miss reviews here on Yelp, but I think management has completely turned over and had a 10+ experience today. I hope this place continues to give great service and recommend it now. read more

They were very fair with pricing. The day we went to pick up the car, some of the work wasn't finished and we had to wait an extra day. I was super unhappy and came in ready for a fight, but they were quick and apologetic. They finished the work first thing and also refunded me for the cost of those repairs that hadn't been done on time. Rafa offered great customer service, and while the mistake was inconvenient and frustrating, he did everything he could to fix it for us. We don't live in or around Park City so we won't be regular customers, but I would recommend them to anybody needing a fair mechanic in the area. read more

I recently took my car to Mercer to get a quote for repairs. I was charged over $100 for a diagnostic test that took 10 minutes, and is free at any mechanic shop in SLC I have taken my car to(the machine cost $40 on amazon). "Luckily" the owner was there to address this. He proceeded to make highly offensive and overly personal jabs at my fiancee and I, after we let him know we were unaware of the diagnostic fee and are now planning to do the work elsewhere. He stated that, "we were not living in the real world", "expected to have work done for free", and "did not care about people OR his workers being paid"... I still came back to tip the mechanic heavily for the diagnostics after being disrespected by the owner... My fiancee and I are both EMTS, and dedicate ourselves to being hard workers for little pay to save lives. BECAUSE WE CARE. The worst part is I had just come by the day before to fill my tires; brought over a full Pecan Pie from Windy Ridge Bakery for the guys at the shop, slice of Apple Pie from Windy Ridge Cafe & cash tip for the guy named Josh who filled my tire, and fresh baked dog treats for the owners dog (I'm a sucker for pups). I have done the same for all local businesses on Iron Horse like; Good Earth Markets, Offset Brewery, Urban Sailor Coffee, The Yarn store, etc. Anywhere I go, if I can, I bring baked goods and dog treats. I love this community and still cannot believe how my gesture was thrown back in my face like there were 'strings attached' and I 'expected free work'. Have taken cars to Mercer for years, mainly for the convenience, and received mostly acceptable service. Today, a different story... Had an appt for an oil change at 11am. When I made the appt, I said the day/time was fairly flexible, I just wanted an hour or less because I had to wait for it. Arrived and was told it would take approximately 1.5 hours and they would call me when finished. Um, ok. With a. Hour and a half or longer, I decided not to wait, I walked home. An hour and a half later I called and the machine said "can't leave a message, try again later." Did that again 15 min later and heard the same automated reply. Wait, what? I can't communicate with anyone about my car? Figured I better walk back to Mercer and see what's going on. It's now 2.5 hours later than my appt at 11, and an hour later from when they said it would likely be finished. On arrival, observed total confusion from the service guys. My car was out in front where I first parked it. Was it finished? For 5 minutes, no one knew. Turns out -- my car never made it back to be worked on. Two hours later and no one touched it!!! My car was forgotten! How does that even happen? I've never heard of such a thing. So now what??? I still need my car serviced and I'm right there -- again! They said if I left it (a second time) it would be another hour and a half to do my oil change. My day already negatively impacted by their error, I left my car -- again -- and walked home -- again. I'm currently on the couch waiting for their call saying my car is finished -- and I can walk back. I wonder, when I arrive, will they apologize for the inconvenience? Will they waive some of the cost? Well, we'll see if any effort is made to compensate me for my time and their baffling error. Needless to say, regardless of how the story ends, my relationship with Mercer is over. You may want to do what I plan to do from now on: drive a little further and take your Park City vehicles to a different auto repair. The one star? Well, that's the bare minimum. read more

Brought my car in for a transmission problem. Charged $200 to diagnose. They were unable to diagnose, but managed to find $4600 worth of other problems. I picked up the car and smae issue. After bringing it back, took them 2 days to finally get it going and another $1000. The reason that they gave me for the transmission was total bs-as I called a dealer and they stated so. They also gave me bs on my spark plugs-stated they can't evaluate them because they didn't know the condition when first installed- IT'S NEW-you idiots. Should have taken the car to Autograff in SLC--highly recommended. They pulled a plug and stated no carbon deposits-so good for a little longer. Mercer must think everyone who comes to them must have fallen out of a turnip truck. Be smart and never, ever go there-as I will never return and make sure everyone knows about their shadiness. So if you want to visit an incompetent shop that will blatantly lie to you, and spend crazy money-this is the place. They even have a tip jar---which should be a complaint jar-what nerve! read more

Richard called me about a Diagnostic Mechanic job he had on Tuesday 02-13-24 and proceeded to talk for 44min and 31 secs complaining about how all his techs are horrible and complete idiots and somehow keeps getting hire's from Heber area and he swore up and down that everyone in Heber was a bunch of inbred freaks and kept whining about how he can't find anyone willing to work hard even his current employees i would just respond yeah good mechanics are hard to find and he just kept going on and on how he is the best shop in all of Utah but just can't find anyone willing to work then he offered me the job said he could do 75k a year which is pretty low for a good diagnostic mechanic with his own set of 50k+ in tools so i told him the lowest i would consider is 100k and thats still low and he said ok i guess but you would have to work really really hard thats alot of money even though he admitted to pulling in over 2.2m net last year and his labor rate is $200 and was thinking about raising it to $220 so i ended by saying ill think about it and ill find a time to swing by and take a look at the shop and employees and see if it would be a good fit for me im very picky with who i work for and we hung up so i texted and we agreed to meet on thursday i then did some research and decided with how he was sounding and from what i found that wasnt very good i would decline the job for my benefit he tried calling after my last text and left a voicemail acting like a was a complete child and i should really rethink this cause hes the best shop in Utah and then he texted me this later that night and i think its safe to say why he lost his employees and is having a hard time finding new techs for all customers and potential employees id stay away but dont take my word for it do your own research and make sure this is the best choice for you and if you do choose to work here watch your back and your paychecks for Richard word of advice if you are having a hard time finding good employees i suggest start paying what us mechanics are worth 100k-200k and treat us like human beings read more

The honesty, integrity, kindness and customer service provided by Justin was extraordinary!!! We traveled up the mountain and noticed the brakes were burning when we came down. We are from Las Vegas, and did not know of any mechanic in town. We called Mercer Automotive and spoke to Justin at 4:30 PM on Thursday. We explained the issue and Justin said to come right over. After doing a spot check, he asked us to come back the following morning so he could do a complete full visual of the brakes on the lift. By 10:30 AM he informed us we did not need new brakes and in fact we still had about 10,000 miles to safely drive. The extraordinary thing about this is that Justin said "No-Charge" when he was finished... You can rest assured that you will be treated fairly and with respect. read more

A friend and I were in Park City for a girls trip when my oil light came on and then off we were leaving the next day for a five hour drive back home. I looked up service garages and went to Mercer Automotive to get my oil checked. They checked it and said yes it was low a man came out filled it...both were so very nice. Drove to park city from California and had my AC system go out mid summer! Not a good situation. We drove through the salt flats at 110° with the windows cracked open and pouring waters on ourselves to keep ourselves cool - wife not happy. We scrambled to find a place to take care of our car and settle on these guys because of their good reviews and availability. Their prices were reasonable, they got me in quickly, and the work was performed well. No up-sales or price gouging. These guys took care of me big time! We were in the middle of a 1,500 mile trip when my truck's check engine light came on. We were worried that the issue could have severe consequences as to finishing our trip as we would be traveling off-road and in some desolate places. I took the truck to Mercer right when they opened; while the place was very busy, Ken immediately put the other issues aside and hooked the truck up to his diagnostic equipment. He cleared the code, and explained the situation and indicated that it wasn't dire and that we should test the truck out over the next several days. To the extent the light came on again, he would address the situation. We were grateful for the expediency he provided to address and alleviate our concerns. He did so graciously, without trying to sell us anything, and provided us the assurance and comfort we needed to proceed. I commend this business's integrity and business practices, as I have had my share of people that want to upsell and deliver expensive news that puts consumers in a tenuous position. This place is the worst! We took it there to get an estimate on what was wrong with car. When we called they said the estimate was free. They quoted me over $800 for repairs and when I compared to three places in SLC I was told around $350. When we called Mercer to say we would take it another place because it was too expensive, we were told- "sorry this is Park City that's how it is!" It was actually perfect that a mechanic in PC actually said that because it's true! Let's rip off the people because we can!! When picking up the car our "free estimate" cost $170! I am so pissed! They even charged me $10 for a part that we never had them work on. Do not take your car here unless you like over paying just because it's "Park City". read more

Brought in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo which displays tire pressure on dash. Unfortunately, Mercer Automotive is now under daily management of the next generation mr bigshot Jackson "attitude" Mercer who knows nothing about customer service side of the business. Young 30? Year old Jackson Mercer bragged that he was in charge now and complaints to anyone higher up would result in him picking up the phone. He actively argued with me about whether they over inflated all 4 tires to 80 psi, extremely dangerous given the pressure was about 40 psi on display readout when car was brought in and max per tires in 50 psi. This also resulted in a dangerous bulge visible in at least 1 tire (need to be replaced, probably why he denied inflating the tires, as might be on the hook for at least 1 new tire, and you really want a matched set of 4 on a 170mph car). In addition they lost a crucial trim piece holding the center console Down to lock which i had removed at towing, and put in center console to access towing override to move car from park to neutral gear to get on flatbed. Never once did Mr Jackson Mercer ever let me finish a sentence before interrupting me attempting to explain that both of these things absolutely did happen with car in their possession. Then he LIED and said i told his service manager that stuff from my car had repeatedly been stolen and that i was making up this story or falsely accusing him. How does that make any sense? Parked in garage, never had a problem. I attempted to explain that as another business owner, mistakes do happen and its how you deal with those and make them right that creates great customer service, but i was cut off before i could finish. He threatened to not reduce the dangerous tire pressure and send me down the road, risking a blowout. I ultimately reduced my own tire pressure with my own tool before driving away, wondering how long until they are "under new ownership". I escorted the tow truck to drop off of car and they didn't inflate tires at all. I attempted to explain There simply is no other plausible explanation than his employees could have done it. The arrogance and attitude is astounding. There are clearly better alternatives around town. Im sure all the other negative reviews online are absolutely true. Any response from them is entirely disengenous. THEY ABSOLUTELY DO NOT VALUE YOUR BUSINESS and make it very clear they don't need you. And you don't need mercer! my center armrest doesn't close without the piece, $25-50 part. need new tire(s) due to dangerous overinflation. Aggrevation with Mercer owners, priceless. read more

Price is reasonable. Basically, my car had a seized axle and needed general maintenance. The axle issued was clearly explained to me. Mercer Automotive is the most honest and professional auto shop I've ever worked with. I brought in my FJ Cruiser with the check engine light lit. The computer diagnostics revealed a problem that could have resulted in a $1,700+ repair. Mercer thoroughly tested the engine and found that the repair wasn't needed. They could have gone through with the repair, and I wouldn't have known any better, but they didn't. I have taken my cars to Mercer for years for oil changes, but never needed major repairs. I took my 2008 Mini to Mercer for a mysterious service light on the dashboard. After keeping my car for a day, they diagnosed the problem as a bad oil supply line to the Turbo. The part would cost $1.87 to replace, but the labor would be $600. I sucked it up and authorized the repair. Two days after I got the car back, I noticed an oil leak in my driveway (that hadn't been there before). I took it back in, and this time they told me that it was now the oil return line on the turbo. Again, less that $2 for the part, but over $600 in labor. At worst, this was a scam. At best, it was really, really poor service. This is an example of the kind of short-sightedness at Mercer. Wouldn't it have made sense, when you had the turbo pulled apart, to replace BOTH of the lines? I will never take my cars there again. read more

Quite frustrated with my experience so far (I still don't have my car back). I had a warning light come on, took it to Mercer on a Friday, they were too busy to even take it (Understandable, the review is not against that). So I dropped it off Monday morning, prior to opening, I received a prompt phone call at 8:30am letting me know they received the car, and reviewing what the problem was. I was told they would call me with an update. I didn't receive a phone call or update until 6pm Monday night, stating they needed the car to completely cool before doing a final test. Fine. Tuesday I call 3 separate times to get an update, it's not until almost 4pm that I finally talk to someone. Brad was very nice & helpful. He explained what was going on and why it took so long to figure out what was going on. He gave me a detailed timeline of how long they would need my car, until Friday. I called in today, Friday to find out about when I can come in to pick up my car. I spoke with someone, and they promised to call me back (I had emphasized that I had not received a call back with previous attempts). I waited an hour, called back because I hadn't heard from anyone. Now I'm told I won't get my car back today. I'm awaiting a phone call from someone to find out what is actually going on. The most frustrating part is not having communication on what is going on. I understand that problems come up and things are delayed, but there should be a phone call made to update on the progress, especially when it leads to not getting my car back on the expected day. read more
