They act like they in it just for a pay check There is a lack of compassion for the hurting. They don't know how to treat other's as they would like to be treated in the same situation. Caring is sharing compassion people. I don't know if it is racism or what. But it seems black folks have never been treated like humans at Mercy East,West,North nor South. Sad. Poor black people.

Blood on the wall

They gave us a Unsanitary room very disappointed in the quality of the cleanliness of this hospital

a horrific experience. my 78 year old mother had dehydration. they tied her down, drugged her with anesthetic used for people on ventilators. she is bruised all over. the doctors refused to let her leave. threatened to arrest me(her daughter) when i tried to remove her from the filthy torture chamber they call a hospital.

Mom

Mercy took great care of my mother. 96 yrs old , nurses were attentive with mom , especially if she pressed the call light . I felt the floor was an / intensive care setting. I wish I remember the floor . Rooms large clean and convent . Nurses and aids excellent, always nice , to let me stay while they did dressings . I can,t find complaints . Dr Witsken cared for my mom . Her favorite Dr to visit appointments .

Excellent care. Staff are kind and really care about you. No other hospital does that. When other hospitals nearly kill you West saves the day.

Partially amputated finger on a 1 yr old

If I could give this facility a 0 I would . In 2021 my daughter had a significant finger injury; bleeding all over the place we took her straight to this ER because it was close. While in the facility which was completely empty no beds in use in the ER nobody in the waiting area the front desk people refused to take my daughter back to start getting examined and treated till I filled the insurance information out (bear in mind she's bleeding on the floor, crying, there's blood all over my shirt). Once in the ER they told us immediately that it's too complex and need to be sent to Children's. They didn't treat her, x-ray her, nothing literally were there for 2-3 mins. We also drove her ourselves there so we didn't get charged for an ambulance. After all said and done saddled with a 1500 dollar bill after insurance took care of its amount left with 400. Flabbergasted at the price for 2-3 mins of non treatment I called the hospital to discuss the charges they said they'll put a note on the file so it doesn't go to collections right away and will call back. Come the following year no phone call but bill is at collections. I call back they said they'll call me back again. This time another year passed life went on things happen I forgot about it (my fault) bill is at a law firm now. I call them again now I get a lady who says it's not in their practice to call back because there are too many people to call back. It's too late to dispute the charges and all I can do is deal with my insurance. Why wasn't this dealt with the first time I called or the second. Mainly why did you even charge us when you did nothing for us. Bottom line don't come here... better to die on the sidewalk than use this hospital. Overall terrible reviews from many people who go here shame the west side has a dud of a hospital to deal with. It's been difficult with the healthcare industry and trust. I've always given the benefit of the doubt for the handwork it takes to be in healthcare. I worked in healthcare before so I know. But this billing practice and negligent customer service from admitting to billing is insane. I hope this hospital shuts down for good and if not I hope this review stops you from being ripped off by them!!!!!!!

Procedure prices…read more I'm so done with UC. I was trying to schedule a procedure recently and they wouldn't tell me what my cost obligation would be. I refused to schedule the procedure until I knew what it would cost me out of pocket. The staff just kept cluelessly saying "well...it's usually covered..." Not good enough folks. After several back and forth phone calls trying to establish prices one person finally told me they wouldn't tell me the price until after I chose a date because procedures are different prices on different days. I asked if I could choose the most affordable day for me and they said no. So it wasn't "probably going to be completely covered", huh? So I have to hope I randomly choose a day I can afford? I chose to not do the procedure with them. This isn't the first time UC has been a headache about procedures. They once CANCELLED a surgery of mine at the last minute (less than 24 hours before) because some fool in the office misread paperwork and thought I was uninsured. I was insured, everything was approved, they just screwed it up because they had no idea what they're doing. People at my work rearranged vacations so I could fit in this surgery and UC got me in so much trouble. It was a diagnostic surgery that they delayed. So my diagnosis was delayed. Then they lost all of the records of the surgery. The photos, notes, and reason for my diagnosis, all "missing". They still had the bill though, so for years I had to pay for a surgery that supposedly didn't happen with supposedly no results. So, they delayed my diagnosis and severely delayed my treatment. I have over a dozen more examples. Don't bother with UC, go anywhere else.

I was in this hospital for several days because of a severe kidney infection, and overall my care…read morewas excellent. I had gone to my normal doctor's office and a doctor there recommended I go to the hospital to get an ultrasound to see if I had kidney stones. The ER wait was very very long, but I was told almost immediately that a severe emergency was going on next door to me so I have no complaints about that, it was out of their control. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly sweet and patient... except for the two women that gave me my CAT scan. When I first came in one of them wouldn't stop asking me why I hadn't gotten a pregnancy test yet (I never turned one down, the other nurses I spoke to had just agreed with me it was unnecessary) and kept telling me there was no way I could know for a fact I wasn't pregnant if I was sexually active. She kept saying she wasn't going to do the CAT scan until she knew I wasn't pregnant and wouldn't let up until I finally told her I was in a lesbian relationship, to which both of them got noticeably uncomfortable and annoyed. After I got my CAT scan the one that was talking to me saw I had an IUD and demanded to know why I had it. When I said "it's birth control?" she looked at me like I had tricked her, I corrected "it's for maintaining my periods" and she ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. All of this was happening while I had a SEVERE KIDNEY INFECTION and was in some of the worst pain I've experienced in my life. A healthcare professional of all people should know that birth control isn't just for preventing pregnancy. I cannot stress enough that every other person I interacted with was a delight and made me feel cared for, but the unprofessionalism and quite frankly *homophobia* I was treated with by those two women was inexcusable. I didn't get their names, sadly. However! I did get the names of all my nurses throughout my stay -- Abigail, Antonia, and Tamala in unit C2 as well as Leslie, Kim, Tiffany, and Diane in unit C5 were all absolute angels to me and they all deserve raises. Those seven women are the only reason this isn't a one-star review.

The front desk, the lady who took information and the person who did the IV were all very kind and helpful. I won't fault the ER with the fact that there was a family not parenting their child allowing her to run all over the place, rolling on the dirty floor and jumping on the furniture but the wait was horrid. I was finally taken back and hooked up to monitors and tested. The dr was very kind and apologetic for the wait. After my scan I had to use the bathroom and had to call three times basically begging for help. I was tethered so needed a nurse. I thought I was going to pee the bed. I was discharged and told I could leave with my paperwork dropped on the bed. I got to the hallway and followed the exit signs only to end up in the lobby that was closed. I was in pain, medicated and exhausted so decided to move the gate and exit through the closed lobby. Of course a policeman saw me and was upset that I used a closed part of the hospital. I have used this ER before and it seems that it is normal practice to just release people without making sure they can find their way out. I realize there are exit signs but they don't help when parts of the hospital are closed. How about the nurse getting patients to the exit? After being there for nine hours, in pain, medicated and exhausted a little help would have been appreciated
