Welcomed my granddaughter at Mercy. The maternity ward is great. The nurses are very nice. Moms have private rooms with great views of the water. They have a very nice menu for both mom and dad, they can even order snack food between meals! The ward is very secure starting with the check in at lobby and security doors on the floor. I arrived at the ER having driven myself there, in no pain but with soaring blood pressure. I was asked if I suffer from anxiety, which I do not. For the rest of my stay I was questioned about anxiety over and over again. They even sent a psychiatrist to talk to me about anxiety. I was even prescribed medication for anxiety. I was not listened to. I came in with soaring high blood pressure that started turning into a small headache. They kept giving me tylenol, which I know doesn't help me at all and I told them so but it fell on deaf ears. The headache turned into a full blown migrane. I literally had to scream at the nurse to get me something for migranes on my second day of stay after two hours of waiting for her to return with it. Most of the equipment is broken. The blood pressure machines hardly worked. They ended up leaving a functioning one in my room since my problem was blood pressure.The room was filthy. The sheets were only changed once after three days and only because I requested it. The cleaning person then came in with a giant flat mop and swept/pushed all the dirt and my hair into the bathroom where the piles remained after I left. At one point while I was in the bathroom, someone came in and started making the room up for a new patient. My experience was disastrous. read more

The most beautiful hospital! Such a fresh breath of air, and has incredible views. Not only is the staff very professional, but they help you a smile on their face! My friend who was staying there felt extremely taken care of and comfortable that entire time. She said the nurses took so much care for her and made her feel safe when things got complicated. My mother was brought to Mercy Hospital after having a heart attack. The entire staff was wonderful and caring throughout her stay. The only disappointing experience was with one of the security guards in the ER on the first night we took her in--she was very rude and showed no compassion during such a stressful moment. Other than that, every doctor and nurse we encountered was excellent. Dr. Mehta, who performed my mother's procedure, was exceptional--he took the time to explain everything to us before and after surgery, which really gave us peace of mind. I was hospitalized at HCA Florida Mercy Hospital from December 8 to December 11 2025 for seizures, under the care of neurologist Offiong Dominic, MD. My experience involved serious failures in communication, informed consent, physician oversight, and discharge safety. Dr. Dominic's involvement was minimal. Met for only a few minutes and at one point he told me that not having my anticonvulsant medication would be deadly. Later, when I asked a nurse if I could speak with him, the nurse returned instead with paperwork for me to sign. I was not lucid when I signed these documents, and they do not represent informed consent. "If you want to leave, you just need to put your signature here." A major medication error occurred during my stay. EMS had brought a seasickness patch from my home -- a medication purchased specifically for an upcoming trip, used only as needed for seasickness , and not part of my regular treatment. No one asked what it was for or how it was intended to be used. Staff incorrectly assumed it was a routine medication and gave me a much stronger dose of an anti‑nausea injection without explanation or consent. I became heavily sedated and developed extensive bruising from multiple injections. Despite being admitted for seizures, I was discharged abruptly with no medication, no instructions, no seizure precautions, and no follow‑up plan. I was wheeled outside without shoes, left unattended on the sidewalk, and still had an untreated broken vertebra from the fall that caused my seizure. No one ensured I was safe, oriented, or able to care for myself. I left the hospital bruised, disoriented, and without essential anticonvulsant guidance. The lack of communication, informed consent, and safe discharge practices placed me at serious risk. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this facility or doctor. read more

Our grandson was just born and security would only let one of us up to see him. When my wife said she would see him and be down before 8pm visiting hours end, security said it ends at 7:55. I had a 10:45 appt at the Women's Center I arrived @ 10:40 to the main building they sent me to the radiologist a wrong location then they sent me to another location Therefore when I arrived at the correct place the Women's Center the technician/receptionist was utterly rude She lacked compassion and customer service She then proceeded to say that I was too late and she kept taking patients they were arriving after me I had to wait 2 hours She was not please g nor nice at all She should definitely not be working as a technician / receptionist. Mom spent 1 week at the hospital and patient care was pathetic starting with the admission to the ED. The physicians were totally inconclusive about her health status and medical condition. The 8 Carroll nursing staff was a complete joke and their communication skills were below zero. One of the RNs even complained about being " burned out" due to manpower shortage and low pay wages! My recommendation is to avoid this hospital at all costs. The nurses are horrible, specially the charge nurses. They act as if they are dictators. My 94 year old mother was admitted for covid and I pretty much had to clean her eyes, wipe her face, feed her, and the nurses wanted me to give her her medication when I was present instead of giving it to her themselves. If she would choke on it it would be my fault. Instead they should have been crushing the pills and giving it to her in apple sauce. I would find her laying in her own urine because they would not change listen to her when she would ask for cleaning. She would ask to have a female nurse clean her but they would not carefully listen to what she was trying to say. It has been a horrible horrible experience. This used to be a wonderful hospital now it is horrible. I would never go there ever again!!!!! If you have family in this hospital READ the daily progress reports carefully, the medication notes and allergy notes. My mom's notes are inaccurate. I gave birth a month ago, and I'm still in shock over the hospital billing system. I was charged $675 for an "early" discharge -- just one hour earlier -- even though no one warned me or had me sign anything. On top of that, the bill included charges for four rooms, two of which I never even stayed in. Now I'm having to spend my time and energy proving that I don't owe this money, when I should be focusing on recovering from childbirth. While I was in the hospital, the medical staff checked on me constantly -- even throughout the night. I hadn't slept in over 24 hours after giving birth and was taking care of my newborn, but getting any rest was nearly impossible with all the blood pressure checks, temperature readings, and other interruptions. It was incredibly stressful. The $14,000 charge for extra rooms I never used is completely absurd. And the room I actually stayed in was far from luxurious -- it certainly wasn't a five-star hotel. As far as I remember, the toilet wasn't made of gold, and if there was an "ocean view," it definitely didn't justify the price tag. It honestly feels like they just make up numbers and try to squeeze as much money as possible out of patients, regardless of the actual services provided. It was a very upsetting experience. Instead of care and recovery, I've been dealing with paperwork and fighting unjust charges. read more

The worst experience ever. My mom was brought to Mercy on Wednesday 3/16. I live in Virginia. I I called the nurses station asking for the doctors name and to leave a message for him. His name is Dr. Cesar Rodríguez and it took him 2 days, 48 hours to call me. And that's because my mom begged him to call me. I took a flight on Friday night to be there for my mom because I wasn't getting any information. Both Saturday and Sunday a doctor by the name of Dr. Duran showed up. The WORST DOCTOR I have dealt with. Shame on you Mercy Hospital for having this man work there. He is an animal and he doesn't have any bed side manners. He is rude. He comes to the room and within 2 minutes he leaves. Don't go to Mercy Hospital. I had my daughter at Mercy 27 years ago. The hospital is old and it needs to be taken down and go new. I have given birth at Mercy twice. After giving birth for a third time at Jackson, I realized that I had mediocre experiences at Mercy. I have a friend who is physician who gave birth at Mercy and they said they're going to have their next one at Jackson. My sister gave birth at Mercy in 2024. They now limit the number of people in L&D to one support person. My mother and I arrived to be with my sister in L&D and were told "policies change." We got approval for one additional person, but we're not allowed to switch the second person in and out of the room. When I delivered at Mercy, I had three people in the room with me, and when they were not in the room, they were in the L&D waiting room. The woman at the front desk claimed there is no L&D waiting room (a clear falsity, since I had family there three days ago). When it was pointed out to her that there is one there and we were just in it a couple of days ago, she said, "Well, you can't go there." We are not in a pandemic. In 2024, there is no logical explanation for this policy change. Laboring women should be allowed to have the support people of their choosing while they labor. This is not a laboring parent-friendly policy. read more

My labor and delivery experience at HCA Mercy Hospital was that of nightmares and horror films. We arrived in the evening of 6/22/2022 to the hospital as planned and were told that L&D was "busy", and that we would have to wait several hours for a room to become available. My husband and I were agreeable, and we calmly waited for a room in the lobby. My induction began as most people would expect, and once my pain began to increase beyond what I could reasonably withstand, I asked my nurse to contact anesthesia for an epidural. A CRNA entered the room and quickly told my husband that he would have to leave the room while they completed the epidural. He then attempted multiple times to insert the epidural catheter into my spine while I was profusely sweating and writhing in pain. Once the CRNA finally stated he was done, he left the room in a hurry stating he could not start the PCA pump since someone had kept his keys for it. He returned hours later once my pain began to break through again. At shift change, I told the oncoming nurse that my pain was 10/10 and that it was likely due to the PCA pump being off for hours and therefore giving me no pain medications or relief. Another CRNA walked into the room to see me crying inconsolably, sweating profusely, and writhing in the bed. He literally looked and me and exclaimed "we suck". I was then told that they could not repeat the epidural because I was suddenly "completely dilated and ready to push". I overheard staff saying that the epidural had come out and it was likely due to it being poorly secured by the previous CRNA. I was made to push when I did not feel ready nor did I appear fully dilated according to my husband and mother that were at my bedside. I attempted to push for quite some time while my son began having heart decelerations with every attempt to push him out. I finally turned to my OB, Dr. Valdés, and told him that I felt like I could not continue to push, especially with my son having decelerations that he was not recovering quickly from. I was rushed into the OR STAT for an emergency cesarean. Once I arrived in the OR, I felt something pinch my abdomen and I asked multiple times what it was that I had just felt. Being that I could not see past my pregnant belly, the next thing I felt was a scalpel cutting into my abdomen from side to side. I immediately yelled out because I could FEEL EVERYTHING! Dr. Valdés stopped and asked me if what I was feeling was pressure or pain. At this point I replied screaming and crying that I was feeling PAIN! He immediately looked at the CRNA at my side. They then told me they would have to put me under general anesthesia at which point I of course agreed. I was completely traumatized by this experience and have yet to fully comprehend how something like this could happen to me, especially being an ICU RN. I say this as a cautionary tale to other women. Choose another facility. Choose another OB. I'm still trying to deal with the PTSD from this event and likely always will. read more

Avoid at all costs. They will treat visiting family like trash. Didn't allow my wife to take our infant son to visit his newborn cousin. I stayed behind with him in the waiting area but at 8pm sharp when visiting hours end, my wife hadn't returned yet (she is disabled and walks slowly) they threw me and infant son out to wait for her in the August heat. If you want your family to be treated like human beings recommend delivering at Baptist. Be prepared to pay for parking too, God forbid you have someone dying inside read more

Just had surgery on Tuesday at Mercy Hospital. the service is excellent, the nurses are the nicest people which helps a lot when you are dealing with pain! They were very attentive and super nice! I had a private room after surgery which was nice and maybe due to COVID didn't have to share with anyone else! The only downside is that I had pre-registered over the phone, in person, through the ER and back again on the day of surgery and I found that the registration process was very disorganized! They even had 2 accounts under m name and the billing was also not a pleasant experience. Other than the registration and billing part, I found the hospital to be very clean and the nurses were amazing! The visitor parking is $3 just an FYI. The views of the water are gorgeous! You can see Key Biscayne and the bridges from their ER parking lot. I loved the views there. It's where the horizon blurs the lines between sky and sea, very magestic! read more

I had my first four pregnancies in Nebraska, all at the same hospital, which had I loved. I moved here to Miami and every pregnancy was with a different doctor at a different hospital, mostly because they stopped practicing or had moved. My fifth was at South Baptist, and sixth at Hialeah. My seventh would have been at Hialeah but with a different doctor, who I would never recommend to anyone. I lost that pregnancy, and the doctor said it was my fault for not taking enough folic acid. My eighth, last pregnancy, I went with Dr. Triana, who had his practice at Mercy hospital. I had to go into the ER on several occasions and they were always great with me. The ladies up on the birthingward were awesome. My baby broke my water a month early from her due date. The care was awesome. I wish I knew about this doctor and hospital when I first came to Florida. The view of the bay everytime I visited and stayed was a plus, too. read more

You can't get more unorganized than this place. I brought my mom here for OP surgery, a simple one hour procedure, resulting in a 9 hour experience. As a hospital executive, I noticed many Joint Commission violations, not knowing the status of a patient, unable to locate providers, inability to locate items and unexplainable delays. My grandfather died in the ICU a few weeks ago. Due to COVID visiting hours were restricted to 2-6pm each day. Before the ICU was open to the public my grandfather passed away, the Hospital did not call my family to notify us as is procedure and when found out he had died when we arrived during visiting hours. When I arrived I was told only a certain number of family could go into the ICU, but when I mentioned he had died they let me up. The hospital is a mess, ever since HCA took over administration. read more

This place is filthy. Brought my mom here for heart surgery and while waiting, the seats are disgusting dirty, roaches in the cafeteria, and the bathrooms were not tended to. It doesn't even smell clean anywhere in here and I haven't seen a single cleaning person. Most hospitals I've been to have their issues but one thing I usually see are cleaning crews around. I delivered my girls at Mercy hospital in Sept 2020. My delivery was an emergency intervention, I'm so thankful to my OBGYN, Dr. Cardenas for helping me bring my girls. The maternity staff were all nice and helpful - During my C Section and after. The maternity ward was so nice. The rooms have a view of the water. The food was delicious. The cafeteria staff came by daily to take our food choices. They even gave us a congratulations gift with two champagne flutes with the mercy logo on them and a bottle of sidra. They kept the room clean and staff came by daily to change sheets too. My girls stayed in Mercy's NICU. The NICU staff was great. They were all so caring. In my moments of anguish, I found relief in knowing that the staff was so compassionate and supportive. Thank you, Yani who comforted me since I was waiting to go in for my C section. Thank you, Vanessa, Jocelyn, Grisel. Thank you to you all. I also had previous stays at mercy due to dehydration caused by my hypermesis and for my cerclage placement. This was the most important event of my life and the nurses and doctors at Mercy treated it as such. From 24/7 immediate attention to every one of our needs (from pain management to help with the baby crying) , amazing meals (including a lobster and filet mignon celebratory lunch), to respecting my choices and decisions during my delivery, Mercy staff has gone the extra mile to provide a beautiful experience at a time that is very special but also very scary and full of vulnerability.
