I'm not from the area however I hurt my back and had to be taken into the closest hospital. I was there from 8pm-6am. They take you in no wheel chairs available. people get up and share them if they don't have any on hand. I don't know if they're understaff or just overwhelmed. I did receive help from the staff and they were great! but maybe get help elsewhere lol this place was crash packed with homeless and in the hood. read more

The parking here is in the garage and you do have to pay but if you leave like less than an hour I believe it is free. We had an emergency on our cruise and had you bring my nephew here as soon as the cruise ship docked. First off they helped my nephew and got him well enough to catch our flight and get medical service in Michigan. However it was extremely dirty; like I'm scared to sit down in the chair dirty. I know this was a public hospital but any medical facility should be clean. The doctor had a major attitude but knew what to do to help my nephew. The nurses were really nice. read more

There is NO REASON why patients cannot directly reach their care teams and providers, or even the specialty clinics. I don't know if they are trying to cut costs by having the scheduling line be the "catch all" and then having them communicate through chat, telling patients that the clinics will give them a call back, WHEN THEY NEVER DO. Whatever ROCKHEAD thought that was a good idea, needs an appointment with neurology QUICKLY. Pharmacists can't get in contact with other physicians to verify medication/refills/dosages etc. Companies can't get in contact with doctors to verify if handicaps placards were signed by them. So I been here 8 hours. They kept missing my vien. Refused to use the ultrasound. Finally they put i.v. I and got my blood. Then they said the i.v. was bad. I put my foot down and low and behold, they found a way to use it just fine. The doctor w as kind after he realized that his nurses had messed up.....but the final straw was when they administered morphine cause I had appendicitis then they said that I did not have appendicitis and they did not know what it was. I know that I have appendicitis cause I had it before. Why do I feel like they are sending me home to die. Now they are doing a pelvic exam. This is weird. They have d o ne a CT scan, pelvic exam, ekg, and now ultrasound. They are playing with my life. Also, the male nurse went I to my room and sprayed roach spray on my bed when i went to bathroom. I had an appt to do a blood and urine sample for an upcoming procedure. I showed up to the DTC building at 12:30 for my 1PM appt. I was given the little timer thingy with my paperwork and was told to go up the elevators to the second floor and wait there to be alerted. So I did. It wasn't until 1:23 that I was called into the pre-screening area for my appt. It appears that staff was just coming back from lunch while I was there waiting. I was directed to the back to a nurse named Carlos who was very kind and accommodating. He was extremely helpful. He showed me to the restrooms and waited for me to finish before directing me back to the room for my blood sample. He was gentle and didn't need to poke me multiple times for my drawing. I was in and out in no time, shame I had to wait over 45 min. I also want to point out that the restroom is NOT handicapped accessible. I was able to use the toilet with a little of a struggle, however, my friends who don't have as much upper body strength wouldn't be able to get on and off the toilet without using the bars which should be on both of the walls and within our reach. I'm quite honesty shocked that a hospital wouldn't have accessible bathrooms in all stalls. After mentioning this to Carlos, he checked the other restroom and that too didn't have railings. I'd also like to point out that the toilet covers are way too high for someone utilizing a wheelchair. This entire restroom needs an accessibility upgrade! read more

Awful experience. I had a panic attack at the airport and Got forced into an ambulance after very clearly denying ambulance telling them "I cannot afford this and never requested this" to which I was told I wasn't gonna get charged. I deal with panic attacks quite often so I'm prescribed xanax, the ambulance people and the front desk lady at the hospital were insanely rude towards me, they were pretty much shitting on me and talking to me like I was a child , for taking a xanax and rolling their eyes saying they can't do anything for a panic attack (YOU GUYS FORCED ME TO COME HERE) oh and guess what, after keeping me there overnight they let me go with a xanax LOL . After all that shit they gave me for taking one previously. I honestly couldn't believe that you can be treated this poorly at a hospital.. oh and better yet.. got home to a $9k bill! So you are telling me I won't get charged for the ambulance and that there's nothing they can do for panic attacks, yet you managed to bill me $9k that's so wild.. hospitals in 3rd world countries treated me so much better. There was only one assistant that was nice to me but it's hard to make up for this whole terrible experience . And good luck trying to reach out afterwards , they'll just non stop transfer you to "another department " until they suddenly hung up. Got zero help with the ambulance complaint, zero help when it comes to financial assistance because I was an out of state patient (I was also given 3 very different answers when requested financial assistance so they don't even know how to do their job) . Just disgusting. Miami is forever gonna have a bad taste in my mouth after this whole experience, here's 1 star only for that one out of 100 employees who treated me like a human. read more

I submitted a form only to receive a call to book a surgery consultation for a Keloid removal. During the call, I was transferred to six different agents, none of whom knew which surgeon to book the consultation with because they didn't understand what a Keloid was. I explained that I had this done before and it was with a plastic surgeon, but she refused to listen and insisted she does know and can't book the appoinment, and told me I'd have to wait for a call back so they could figure it out after an hour in the phone. I knew most likely I wasn't gonna get a call back, I hung up I tod her I will call another hospital. What a shame--both in customer service skills and their level of rudeness. I called another major hospital in Miami and was able to get an appointment right away. Take your health elsewhere. read more

Was looked at for an ankle injury in which I told and showed the Dr it's an Achilles injury and I would like to be referred to set up an MRI. My mother is elderly and suffers from severe arthritis and chronic pain. She is now in the hospital, I won't mention the reason as to keep her identity unknown. Instead of receiving compassionate care, she has been met with incompetence, neglect, and cruelty from the nursing staff and their assistants. She has texted me multiple times saying she felt so unsafe that she considered calling 911 from her hospital bed. She is highly allergic to many pain medications, yet the staff continuously dismisses her when she explains that they make her violently nauseous. Because of this nausea, she has been burning up with heat, and the only relief she has found is lowering the room temperature. Even then, her nurse complains every time she enters the room about how cold it is, while my mother pleads that she is still burning up. She has also been unable to eat properly. She has Barrett's esophagus and needs her medication 30 minutes before eating, yet the staff repeatedly brings her food first and her medication over an hour later. By then, her food is cold and inedible. When she asks for something fresh, she is told the staff is "on a schedule" and refused additional food. Out of desperation, she has tried drinking Ensure, but because of her rheumatoid arthritis, she cannot open the bottles herself. When she asked her nurse for help, she was told she was "acting like she was in a spa" -- and the nurse still refused to open it. Shockingly, a janitor and an orderly have shown her more compassion and basic human decency than the nurses assigned to her care. My mother is left in excruciating pain, completely dependent on staff who treat her with rudeness and disregard. When I called the hospital to advocate for her, the situation only worsened. They deliberately left her light on all night, ignored her call button for over 40 minutes when she needed help to the bathroom, and as a result, she was forced to urinate on herself. The humiliation and neglect are beyond comprehension. It is heartbreaking and appalling that an elderly woman, alone and vulnerable, could be treated this way in a hospital entrusted with her. This is not just negligence -- it is cruelty. And it is absolutely unacceptable. If I could give zero stars I could. I will be filing a formal complaint with the hospital and city officials with names. read more

what a dump the colonoscopy outpatient. pretty on the outside but a 3rd world country on the inside. no beds for your scheduled appointment. they scheduled me for 2 it's 2:50 and not near going in. I heard a woman say to the medical assistant that they stole her watch the last time she was here. Great trauma 1 hospital in the heart of downtown Miami. The photos don't do it justice because the art work on the walls has been upgraded as well as in the interior & exterior of the hospital. The parking garage nearby has ample amount of floors (it's $11 per day just an FYI). If you can secure nearby parking elsewhere, go for it. The VA is close by along with other hospitals: UM, Holtz, etc. I would come here as a patient because they care and serve low income populations as well. The jail is also nearby so many inmates get treatment here too. Overall great teaching hospital in Miami! read more

My mother passed away 12/14/24 due to this Hospital's negligence and lack of care. The Neurosurgeons had no idea what they were doing. Some were rude and uncompassionate, I even had one with a terrible attitude, rolling his eyes that called himself a Dr. They had us in the dark with no updates about what was going on with her. 2 brains aneurysm, a number of strokes, and a heart clot and they told me my mother was doing better but she wasn't. She just kept getting worse. My mother deteriorated in a week because of this place. read more

Went in the ER. and after a few hours I had to speak up and tell the doctor that I was there for long and in a lot of pain for my hard to change position on the small bed, the MD responded loudly from across the room "Did you have a lot of alcohol today?" ( I do not drink, not even socially) but for her it was easier to embarass me in front of all other patients and staff. A few hours later another MD approched along with a nurse and offered a sedative type of medication, to which I respectfully explained that I did not want that medication. The doctor tapped my hurting foot three times and sarcastically laugh and said "Do not worry it's completely your choice, you can even leave right now if you want, we dont have to hold you here, that's totally up to you. We can finalize your records and have you go home in a just a moment" then he proceeded to speak in front of me and looking at me in a low tone of voice and in Haitian creole to the nurse right next to him to which she replied in that native language as well. I was left in observation until next day morning. They offered breakfast and respectfully asked to save the bread, or any other high Carb on the breakfast because my sugar levels had shown high, to which the nurse replied " This ain't a hotel, you get the food you get here" After breakfast, I walked (moved) for a few minutes close to my bed in order to get the digestion going on, to which a lady at a desk ruddely asked me to go back on my bed and respect others privacy. Truly, not any more disgustin than anything I have ever seen in my life. I have read a review from someone in here regarding the sovereign people are given at this place and this can't be anything but true. Please, whomever replies with an apology, and the whole 9yrds, just please please reserved it and get together all facts i here and in other pages. I have a colleague who visited you guys in the 90's and he says that it appears like your institution has not changed much. Get the facts together and forget my name and date of service. I was brought into the emergency room by ambulance as a result of an automobile accident. I wasn't taken to the back immediately, but sat in the er waiting area in a chair while being in pain and sitting uncomfortably because my back was in a lot of pain. I did ask if there was anywhere else I could sit or lay. The emergency room was total chaos literally. I was told I'd receive something for pain at about 8:30 pm while I waited. I may have got something around 1 am finally. I was sent for an initial round of X-rays while I waited also. The staff in the er seemed very overwhelmed. As it was very crowded. People vomiting literally in the er. Yelling screaming. It was a lot. I was finally in a room well past 3am once a bed came available. I can say that once I was in the room, the care and treatment was great. I wish I knew everyone's name from the nurses to the lab tech. Dr. Mark Supino was the only name I got. He was also great and explained everything to me for post care as well. While there I had ct scans and more X-rays. I needed iv fluids etc. I was discharged around 9:30 am. The circumstances that landed me there were unfortunate and I hated the lengthy wait and disorganization, however I was given good treatment once seen. read more

Moments later witness him asking his nursing staff who's patient was theirs that was having a priority situation. Better to come here to die than to survive. A few months ago I was experiencing pain in my left leg so severe that I couldn't walk more than 20 feet without collapsing. After about a week of it, I went to Jackson's ER where I waited roughly nine hours to be seen. The ER staff "conducted exams" and ultimately discharged me without any diagnosis or treatment. I knew in the moment they were phoning it in. The whole experience felt very unprofessional and slapdash. Flash forward a few weeks: It turns out I had a blood clot behind my knee and needed emergency surgery. The doctors who treated me said I could have lost my leg or died. If you find yourself in a medical emergency--and you value your life--avoid Jackson's ER at all costs. I got lucky, but I have to wonder how many people their seemingly-negligent ER staff has allowed to needlessly suffer or die of perfectly treatable health problems like mine. Again, avoid Jackson's ER at all costs if you want to live and be well. And speaking of costs, Jackson is still trying to bill me thousands of dollars for this nonsense. No diagnosis, no treatment--just a several-thousand dollar bill. read more

To the Advanced Nursing and the doctoral staffers at Jackson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, I arrived at the emergency room due to an emergent condition that left me feeling really weak and afraid. Along the way I was greeted by a triage nurse who touched my arm ever so gently and spoke to me in a low tone soothing away my fears and lowering my anxiety . An X-ray tech who attentively minded me and made sure I was seen promptly and one who kept the atmosphere light with witty words. Once, I was admitted and led to a bed, I saw a group of nurses, who were efficient, patient and most of all caring. One nurse whose name was let's say Abby in ER-F was someone endowed by God with a supernatural power of care taking. All manner of patients, the overweight diabetic workaholic who was on a conference call while being tethered to a monitor and getting a line put into her artery, a drug seeking mean old lonely geazer, who from the moment he entered the ward set his ire against all who was working there determined to take a pound of flesh with him if he could not get his wish for morphine. Lastly, a man, two months from retirement proud and strong, beaten back by two back to back strokes escaping with both his mind and body singed but not burned and having the privilege to walk out on his own steam power, incredulous at having to face early retirement today rather than tomorrow. Abby, in turn as if by magic, dispensed the most generous portion of care. It was seemingly effortless for her to do. Later upon my discharge, I found out she was steadily verbally abused by that morphine seeking Latino man for 4 hours. She held back, fed and hydrated that workaholic woman and to send off the strong man she held both his arms facing him as if to embrace him and cooed at him softly, "happy retirement , you have worked hard, now it's time to enjoy the fruits of your hard work." He was so buoyed by her words, he seemed to float away as he left the hospital room. She even wheeled him out of ward all the way out to the street because he kept insisting his pain was to great to ambulate himself home. Collectively I have never seen this kindly treatment by a set of hospital workers. Thank you Jackson memorial for a truly positive and remarkable experience. read more

The staff of Jackson Hospital have been spectacular. They are dedicated and caring. They have saved my family member's life three times when he came in through Trauma Center on three different occasions. The ICU staff are top notch and the facility is clean and new. The food is bland and yuck and mixed up when requesting a particular type of diet, but who cares if the most important reason for being in a hospital is 100% on point. Jackson has a reputation because it is a "public" hospital with unhoused encampments around its neighborhood. Honestly, the emergency services are top notch and rival the best in the country. The regular hospital is undergoing a very needed renovation, When he was downgraded from the lovely and new ICU to a regular room in the older portion of the hospital, the windows had metal gratings so dirt had built up and the view was a big haze. So recapping: food and view - meh. Service, caring, expertise - 100%. Thank you Jackson medical staff, thank you! read more

Don't step foot in this place unless you absolutely need to. Landing in a hospital is bad enough, but landing in a Jackson Hospital is a nightmare. Sure, they have their good employees, but my mother was transferred to the DTC area to get surgery done the same day due to several strokes, an aneurysm, and a blood clot. Had us waiting the whole afternoon and through the night with no updates at all. Late night comes, and our great nurse Luis informs us that the procedure appointment had been canceled. Next morning, the Neurosurgeon team and ICU team show up to let me know the procedure would be done that same day. Only to be canceled again later on. That's 3 times. When I speak to the Neuro team. They tell me that she's in better shape and the procedure for the aneurysm isn't needed right away. They told me they received other surgeries and needed to place my mother aside until NEXT week until they could get her a new appointment. My mother has not gotten better. She doesn't recall where she is, her name or birth date. I don't know how this is an improvement. The run around game, that's what Jackson is good at and sucking on your insurance. Long story short, my mother passed away on 12/14/24 because of Jackson's negligence and lack of care. read more

I received a call from Marko for financial assistance. It was overall a very negative experience. He called 2 hours after our scheduled 9:45 appointment. He repeatedly raised his voice at me and cut me off when I attempted to ask questions about credit inquiry's. I'm in a financially compromised situation, obviously or I wouldn't have waited all morning for this phone interview, my question was simply if an inquiry will negatively impact my credit report. This question was important to me because I can't afford negative inquiries on top of medical expenses and low income. He repeatedly told me the credit report was not about him so it did not matter. He asked if I was applying for a car loan as well which was weird, unrelated and none of his business. I had a lot of good recommendations about Jackson hospital that must be untrue if Marko is a representative for Jackson and this is how he treats lower income patients. read more

My family had a horrible experience at this hospital. A doctor physically assaulted my family member, and due to that physical assault, my grandma was injured. We requested a new doctor, and the charge nurse said we couldn't have a different doctor for my grandmother. The hospital's guest services coordinator called the charge nurse, and they told them the same thing. The guest services coordinator was given a complaint guest form. After the investigation, the coordinator didn't return all my family members and grandmother's phone calls but sent a letter inviting us to call with any questions. My family member who the doctor physically assaulted feels his race played a part in the doctor's behavior and physical assault. We had a Disagreement on the release of my grandmother, and when we told the doctor we would file an appeal, the doctor was upset the decision was questioned. The doctor who physically assaulted my family member refused to write his name down so we could give it to guest services. Jackson Memorial Hospital tried to play the situation down. We feel how the doctor believed and guest services towards my family members because of their race. The doctor released my grandmother still after his actions caused her a new injury. We had to bring her back to the ER because of the injuries she suffered from the incident by the doctor actions. And they had my grandmother in the hospital bed full of bowel movement. My grandmother said she was laying in bed like that for several hours. She said asked for bed pan but they never brought it so she did it in the bed. The nurse's clean my grandma up only after a family member came to visit my grandmother and saw her in the bed full of bowel movement. read more

Thank you for all the work you do for our communities. Here is a little bit about my experience: I walked in with my son (6 years old). I had a bad food allergy, and he had a big stomach ache. When we arrived, both emergencies, the one for kids and adults were separate. My son was given a room about 15 minutes after. Pretty good timing, in my opinion, except when you have a food allergy, and it starts showing all over your body. After talking to a few folks there, they suggested visiting the Adult ER, and my son had to be with me since I couldn't leave him behind and had no one to take care of him. Now, in the adult ER, Doctors and nurses are excellent. And after around 45 minutes and a few shots (which I dislike), I was doing much better. Then we headed back to the children's ER, and things went well. Something to consider? : If a family of two shows up and both are sick, I think there should be a space where both can receive the needed care simultaneously. If patients move as we did, it exposes even more of the weak body to other patients who also need to be isolated as much as necessary. But overall, thank you. I spoke to a doctor who mentioned working every day. You all are amazing. It isn't easy work, and I appreciate it. We are doing so much better, thanks to you! This specific shift here is horrible. That's on this picture that I uploaded under this as you can see. This charge nurse or nurse manager Ms. Arnine if that's how it's spelled she's not on this shift but she was very nasty and very unprofessional to me personally I feel like she should lose her job. I even called guess services and made a complaint about everything that happened to me on the day when they did the procedure on me. They told me that I couldn't eat anything so I did exactly that even though they had me waiting for hours until the people finally came to get me to take me to MRI. The procedure was simple they went in my throat and put another straw like tube on the side of my belly. They did this so the pig tail I had can help the drainage in my stomach come out much better. Umm I ended up coming back and I wasn't feeling good at all. I was upset with everything, and everyone. But I was only feeling like that because I haven't eaten anything or had any fluids for like what 13 hours or probably more then that. So I was very weak & didn't want to talk to anybody. I think this lasted until the next morning I still haven't eating or had any fluids. I'm not exaggerating either then these people have the nerve to ask me "what's wrong with me". Then their so nasty to me they put me on a freaking liquid diet. (But guess what) I wasn't even supposed to be on darn liquid diet. So they were basically torturing me and starving me. The team that comes to see me plus the doctor he even said "What? who told you you couldn't eat" "Man you need to eat". Then the nurses on the shift on the board will just walk past my room take a quick glance in it and just keep walking with no care in the world. This place failed big time. DO NOT TAKE your love one there. They are unprofessional aggressive and shows zero compassion or care for their patients. They treat pts like a sales person on a car lot. While the neuro surgery team was timely and communicated they plan and he had a successful surgery the rest of the interdisciplinary team especially case mgmt / international team was rude aggressive and non resourceful!! They were ready to get him out and did without care and never followed up to ensure their pt arrived to his destination safely even being physically disabled. Just like I thought my post was removed. A long time ago I was in the ICU. One time the nurse tending to me needed to have the TV on my bed adjusted. An orderly just happened to be passing by. When she asked him to help her he looked at me and said, "I ain't moving that for her!" The nurse didn't know what to say. When I looked at him or maybe he thought I might file a complaint, he came over and adjusted the TV. He was kind of tall, bald African American, and slightly muscular. Some time after that when I was still in the ICU, i'd asked a nurse a question and a woman who was working in the ICU told me either to be quiet or she answered the question for the nurse that I was talking to, or she told me to lie back down. Like she was admonishing me. She was white, or could've been a hispanic person who looks white, plus size, with a short greyish- slightly white haircut. If someone were to reprimand or inquire about these incidents to the people i'm talking about, they'd be over-looking that not only did they do this in a hospital, and like they weren't trying to sneak and break the rules of their job, but like choosing what they want to do is literally their choice when they're working, but this was done in an ICU. Not only is that disturbing but not normal. When did something like that stop being abnormal from someone who has serious "problems". That means that that's the type of person who could possibly harm someone. read more

Would be zero if it could be. I walked in having an anaphylactic reaction, swollen head to toe, difficulty breathing, and shaking badly. I told the woman at the desk that I thought I was going to pass out. She just sent me to sit down and wait. I've had many many many anaphylactic reactions in my life and have NEVER been told to sit down and wait for a nurse. I had to leave because I wasn't getting care. I'm so disgusted with the lack of care, but I'm actually glad I wasn't received because I can't imagine that they would have actually helped me. read more
