Today I went in to get my second tattoo, some song lyrics in my mother's handwriting. I wanted it on my shoulder/collar bone area. At first, the guy up front said it would have to be 10-25% bigger, and that made me start to reconsider (I don't want huge tattoos). Aaron told me that he could do it in the writing with the size I wanted and only had to make some loops a little bigger (like the e's) so that over time the letters wouldn't blur together. He drew it out, placed in on my shoulder twice until I liked it, then got to work. I was surprised at how short of a time it took him to do it, and how little it hurt! I had been told that the area I was getting it done in would be especially painful, but thanks to Aaron's light hand, it was nothing. It came out wonderfully. It looks exactly like my mother's handwriting, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The price was also very reasonable. I will definitely be going back to Aaron for future tattoos! read more

I walked in to get my first tattoo in January. I decided to get an infinity tattoo that incorporated a cross, heart, and anchor. I was already nervous since it was my first time and I didn't know if I would like the end result. My artist was Schmo, a very cool and nice guy. I told him what I wanted, he wasn't sure if he could fully incorporate everything I wanted in one continuous tattoo. However, a few minutes later he came back with a stencil that I fell in love with. I always imagined what my tattoo would look like and he definitely surpassed my imagination. I was nervous that I would experience intense pain, but it didn't hurt as much as what I thought. It was just a stinging feeling. I'm sure I didn't experience that much pain because Schmo is talented. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Great atmosphere, customer service, and very talented artists. Really dissapointed. Came in with high hopes to finish my tattoo. I explained to jon, the artist what I wanted was To finish my birds and color in the background with vibrant colors . He did the birds then basically said my time was up and kicked me out saying he didn't understand what I meant and was yelling at me in front of other clients and staff about me being late even though I had called prior to my appt to explain my late shift schedule. He said he would finish the tattoo too appease the owner but now I worry he will mess it up out of spite read more

I have had three tattoos done at Lost Art, but one was at the Ogden location (is that shop still there?). In 2005 I went to Dean Bodily at Lost Art with a photograph and an idea and he drew up an amazing sketch for me, and gave me the best foot tattoo I have ever seen anywhere, really I love it. He put soo much detail into it, I am really pleased. The next time I visited Lost Art I went to Jake Miller (now works at 11th Street Electric Gallery or Cathedral Tattoo in SLC) because he had done work on friends and I was impressed, I got a small tattoo on my arm, he did a great job! In fact, when I was thinking of getting my next tattoo I went to 11th Street to see Jake, but he wasn't in and the guy I talked to was so rude I decided not to go back. Finally, I went back to Dean at Lost Art to get a cover up done. I know cover ups can be tricky, so I'll give him that, but he did a pretty mediocre job. I took him a photograph of some flowers and told him I wanted it to look very life-like, just like the photo. Instead, I came out with some super cartoony flowers, it's not terrible, but not what I wanted. I think he just wasn't very interested in the project. Disappointing. Still I would recommend Lost Art and Dean for a tattoo any day, but I would remind the customer to be very specific about what they want. SLC, you are one lucky city! you are going to be appropriating an amazing tattoo artist, schmoe, this month. san jose is sad to see him go, and many will most likely be traveling east from the west coast to see him! i can say enough good about SCHMOE! from my consultations to my finished work i was nothing less than impressed with his ability to listen to what i wanted as well as execute a perfect piece! the color and cleaness of the work done by schmoe is amazing! he was very detailed, professional and so pleasent to spend time around while getting worked on. the only thing i have to complain about is my other work now has a complex due to the inferriority it faces... read more

Went there on a Sunday whim, was wanting to get a fourth tattoo. Decided to go with a moon on my left foot. I walked in and Schmo was the one who was up next. He was very nice and friendly. I only waited five minutes (set up time). He was talkative and informed me when everything was happening. It hurt like a.... it's all the bones on the foot. He drew it out and then put it on stencil. It only took ten minutes and looked fantastic when it was done. He used different levels of shading to it so it had shape and design. A must if you are thinking about tattoos! read more

On a business trip to Midvale, I took it as a sign a tattoo shop sits across the street from my hotel. I went over to get a little design I've wanted for a while. The guys in the shop were great! They worked together to figure out the best size for my writing (so it wouldn't bleed through the years) and, most importantly, they totally treated me with respect even though I was just getting a piddly little thing done! Moises tatted me - he's got the lightest touch ever! No pain at all! He took a lot of effort before hand to make sure we were both 100% satisfied with the positioning. My tat looks great! Pros: Alex is charming, patient, and personable. He talked to me while he tattooed me and tried to make things comfortable for me. Cons: He changed and resized my design even though I had it the exact way I wanted it, he spelled my tattoo wrong (even though the template had it spelled correctly) and didn't check the template or ask me before permanently inking it into my skin. When I came back to talk to him about it, he blamed the mistake on me. Bottom line: I will not come back for more tattoos here, and I do not recommend it to my friends. read more

Since it was my first time getting a tattoo, I naturally felt a little nervous/embarrassed and out of place walking into a tattoo parlor, but they made me feel welcome straightaway! Alex was my artist, I had my design ready already, a simple one on the back of my neck. He was great about helping me size and place it, and made sure I was 100% happy with how it looked. He made me feel comfortable, and had me in and out within an hour! Fast, easy, and I didn't hardly feel a thing. The walls are plastered with designs and pictures to help people come up with ideas. It was a very open, friendly, and relaxed environment. I loved my experience, and will be definitely coming back for my next tattoo! I'm addicted. read more

A big shout out to Anthony today in SLC. He fixed a Horrible tattoo I got elsewhere a year ago and it looks Amazing now. No signs of the horrible one there before. And he even had time to give me a cool new lower neck tattoo. All by looking at the picture, he recreated it to Perfection!! If I have time on this trip I'll get some updates of color on 2 others. I love this shop! I've never been treated unfairly here and everyone there are always welcoming. Dean Bodily is an amazing artist and is so incredibly nice. I went in for a half back piece in 2006. I only got my outline done and was planning to go back. But.... life got in the way. 7 years later I finally came back and he still remembered my tattoo! I had a very unpleasant experience with Jon. My sister and I went in to get matching tattoos and wanted a simple design of a small dove. We made a mistake and said "silhouettes" when we meant "outline" and as soon as I noticed he was starting to fill in the design I told him I'm sorry but that isn't what I meant and to please stop. At this point it was early enough for him to stop but he continued anyway as I kept telling him to stop what he is doing so we can fix the miscommunication. Finally, he stopped and acted annoyed and then argued about the design. Somehow, we were able to alter the tattoo to work with the partly filled in portion. Overall this felt like a negative experience where Jon became very rigid and didn't want to listen at all to what I wanted and definitely didn't care. read more

I have never experienced such utter disrespect and lack of customer service than I did the moment I entered the door of Lost Art (Ogden location). The staff was outright rude, they discredited all inquiries about my tattoo request and ideas, acted disrespectful about my interests telling me things like my skin will sag and my tattoo would never work, and talked down to me like I was a child. Although they offered an affordable rate and had time for a walk-in, I would NEVER let these guys tattoo me. 0/10. read more

Just like another reviewer on here, I had booked my appointment with Jon who seems to be a repeat offender in verbally abusing his clients. I asked for the colored outline of a band logo and, on the paper you fill out detailing what it is you want before the actual appointment, I wrote "logo outline (deciding if in black or red)". He started tattooing me and then made a statement about how much worse it would hurt once he started "filling it in". I reminded him that wasn't what I asked for and he started freaking out - pacing, yelling, and he even went to go FIND my paper and reread it out loud. It said exactly what I wrote above. If I wanted it filled in, I wouldn't have written "logo OUTLINE". This was all because he wasn't comfortable doing colored outlines, so he threw a tantrum. This guy ruined an experience that should have been nothing except positive as this was a tattoo I have wanted since I was a kid. Jon is a total jackass and, after I get this touched up (it healed raised by the way), I'm not going back. They just lost my business because they decided to hire a volatile creep. read more

Erich is unkind and unprofessional. From the beginning he was pouting about my and my dad's request for tattoos as if it was too much work to draw it up. (It wasn't a huge or extensive tattoo we wanted). I ended up missing my appointment (my fault for being disorganized). He kept my deposit which is perfectly fair. But when my dad went in for his appointment Erich was ridiculously rude to him. Erich cancelled the appointment, so my dad tried to reschedule and Erich wouldn't let him. My dad asked for his deposit back and Erich refused. My dad asked for the drawing and Erich said he threw it away. Don't punish someone and treat them like dirt because of someone else's (my) mistake. My dad did nothing wrong and Erich was irate and unprofessional unkind to him. I couldn't believe how angry Erich was from the beginning. Please do not go to him. He is terrible and I hope he loses his job until he understands how to treat people with respect. read more

Went to the Lost Art in Midvale. Easy enough to find, easy parking and the shop is clean. Paid a $50 deposit. The girl who booked my appointment was extremely helpful and genuine. I never got the snarky vibe that some shops give off, even when you already have tattoos. Besides Yellow Rose in Sugar House ($50) and Heart of Gold in SLC ($60), Lost Art has the cheapest minimum deposit. I came in with a general idea of what I wanted but with a couple of things customized. I came back for my appointment the next day and Jerry went to the back with my ideas and came back 20 minutes later with a beautiful design that I absolutely fell in love with. It took about 2 hours from start to finish before I came out with some new art! He also gave me some A+D cream to put on the ink and promised me free lifetime touch ups. I paid a totally of $140 including a nice tip and I was extremely pleased! It's been over two months since I got them done and I get compliments all the time about how clean the lines are. No fading, it looks so good. I'd definitely go back if I ever decide to get more! read more

My artist wasn't bad, I left a $50 deposit before my appointment. When I came back I asked the artist how much for my tattoo, and he told me $150. So after my tattoo was done I forgot to get my $50 deposit back. I called the shop the next day and told the guy what happened and he told me my tattoo was $200. I told him the artist quoted me $150, and the guy played dumb. So I would not recommend thieves. read more

Came here because my friend got a tattoo from Dean. Her tattoo from him looked great ! We came back to get matching tattoos but Dean wasn't in. Took a chance on a new kid in the shop from Georgia. These tattoos were simple crescent moons mind you. 4 weeks later all healed and 70 ish dollars later tattoo lines are way sculpted not clean and inconsistent scribbles. Artist said he's been working for 3 years before moving to SLC .I don't regret getting the tattoo, only regret not remembering cathedral tattoo was only 1 more block up. read more

I experienced the worst customer service I have ever experience in my life with a guy named Jon. He was argumentative, impatient, iconsiderate, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I was scheduling to have it done with Dean but was offered to get it that day with Jon. His careless work and poor character proved he is not the perfectionist he claimed to be when he did the opposite of what I asked him to do. He argued with me about what I wanted, how I wanted it, and where I wanted it and when I would try to show him, he only got mad and stated we needed to hurry so he could get home. My husband attempted to conversate with him and he just ignored him the entire time. For the 10 - 20 minutes it took him to finish "HIS" tattoo, I felt like the price was way too much. I ADVISE THAT NO ONE HAVE JON GIVE YOU YOUR PERMANENT TATTOO. HE is not a representable employee for this business. This does not deserve even one star! read more

I had been bouncing around for weeks to several other tattoo shops with the design I wanted only to be told it couldn't be done and/or I'd have to wait weeks after having a consult first, etc. etc. Stopped in to Lost Art Tattoos in Midvale and spoke with Aaron. I showed him my design and he was confident he could not only do it, but I could have it done the very next day. I was elated! Biggest F-ing joke of a tattoo parlor. They not only wouldn't do what I wanted as a tattoo, which only tells me the artist wasn't confident in his artistic abilities but also tells me he couldn't do it. Schmo is a schmo! I was hoping his reputation played into what I wanted but a joke and was swindled into putting down a down deposit and when an emergency came up, and I wouldn't be able to be back into town for a couple of months, I lost my down deposit. What kind of business do you run where you can't something back when you cannot control a situation in your life. Horrible customer service. Get some education about customer service and taking care of your customers and you might get more business. As the saying goes in sales, if you have bad customer service you've just lost 10-15 potential clients. Well you've lost them! read more

I normally don't write reviews but after reading how ridiculous Stephanie O's review was I had to step in and give the full details of my experience with Jon. A few days ago I walked in to Lost Art ironically the same day as this Stephanie O and was shocked at how immature and bossy she was the entire time she was in there. She wanted to get some roman numerals tattooed on her but wouldn't listen to any advice that was given to her and was extremely ignorant. The problem with people like her is they walk into a tattoo shop and don't realize that sometimes the ideas they have in their head are unrealistic and are too stupid to listen to an artist that knows what they are doing that is clearly trying to give them advice and make them feel comfortable but they are too ignorant to realize that their pinterest tattoo isn't all that difficult to do, and they blow it way out of proportion. I sat idly by waiting behind this woman while she dumped her purse out on the counter screaming and tripping out and accusing everyone of stealing her phone when she ended up finding it in her purse two minutes later. She was disrespectful from the second she walked in and acting like she knew everything and was extremely bossy which is the complete wrong attitude to have when it comes to getting tattooed. After seeing how well Jon handled the situation and looking through his portfolio I decided to wait and get tattooed by him specifically. Jon did an amazing job on my tattoo and was very helpful when I asked for suggestions and I let him run with my idea and he made it better than I even pictured. Jon was extremely funny the entire time he tattooed me and made me feel very comfortable. I will definitely be back to get tattooed by him. The key to getting a good tattoo is to be open minded and listen to suggestions the tattoo artist have for your design. They do it everyday for a reason. My experience with Jon was the best I've had so far, everything from how long the tattoo took, the price, and his overall customer service exceeded my expectations. Thanks again. read more
