This contractor is not willing to meet to resolve issues. He has resorted to the unethical tactic of attempting to drive a personal wedge between my wife and me. He got away with implementing and billing us for changes which we had not properly reviewed and approved. Terhune left us unsatisfactory work on our fireplace, excavation and bathroom tile work. He allowed misalignment of lights over countertops in the kitchen and bathroom and refused to give us an "as-built" electrical plan to use for future reference. Terhune failed to coordinate plans for work of its subcontractors and suppliers. This is an obvious error in management and defect in workmanship. We contend that rework is appropriately his responsibility.

When one element of the design turned out to be very expensive to implement, Ian suggested alternatives that kept us within budget, but still met all our needs. There were many decisions to be made about fixtures and finishes, and he helped us select from suppliers that could provide what we wanted at reasonable prices. When a significant issue was discovered (that had not been revealed by the pre-sale inspection), he found ways to solve it while remaining on schedule. Perhaps most importantly, we visited the house almost every day to observe the construction and answer questions, and he welcomed our participation; we were able to see the quality and care of Tek-Line's work first-hand, and we were very impressed. If the best indicator of a good experience is repeat business, then Tek-Line has achieved it. The remodel mostly went okay to start with, but issues started to crop up over time. The people doing the actual work didn't follow the architectural diagrams at first and a lot of work had to be redone (making the process take a lot longer than it should have) and there was a clear lack of communication amongst the crew. Some of the mistakes being made were quite egregious, as well, and would have made the kitchen completely unusable if I hadn't caught them. In the end the job was never quite finished (my over-fridge cabinet had to be redone) and Alec kept on making excuses for not wanting to do the last little bit. A year later I finally hired someone else to finish the job. The final results were good but there were definitely a lot of headaches along the way, mostly due to lack of oversight and miscommunications.

We contracted with him in September 2019 to remodel our condominium including the kitchen and bathrooms. He verbally estimated the job at 4 months; it took a full year to complete. Some of the delay was due to Washington State shutdown due to COVID, but the project should have been done long before the shutdown in late March. After I had paid him in full for the contract and for all the change orders, Alec said he was out of money and walked off the uncompleted job in late July 2020. I had to complete the remodel myself at substantial additional cost. As examples of his incompetence, we interviewed an electrician to start in November 2019. Alec wanted someone cheaper so 7 months were lost with 3 different electricians installing, repairing, and redoing the work. Alec gave poor supervision; the workmen didn't follow the architect's drawings so after the cabinets and appliances arrived it was discovered the kitchen island was mismade. It had to be partially torn out and rebuilt. After we moved in we discovered the hot water to the washing machine did not work. A wall had to be opened to find a valve that had been left in the "off" position before the wall was closed. Worst of all Alec refused to pay one of the subcontractors and directed him to us. The subcontractor threatened a lien against us since Alec couldn't or wouldn't pay him. This should be a big warning to subcontractors as well. I should have paid attention to Stephanie C's review. If I could do a negative star rating I would.

When we started looking for a contractor, we looked at least a half of a dozen different options. The main difference between Century and the other contractors we considered was that they had pre-fabricated cabinets that were able to be customized to fit our needs, while others needed to spend more time and money to build cabinets from scratch. Having remodeled our previous homes' kitchen to similar cabinets, I can say that the quality was on par with the custom ordered cabinets we ordered before. I was very happy with the trade-off as this made the project move very quickly.
