I've been getting lash extensions applied here for the past 6 months give or take so I'm pretty familiar with what the process entails. Generally, I've had a positive experience. However, the last time I went I had a new person and it was terrible. The woman applying my lashes should not be allowed to preform this service or at minimum receive extensive training. I experienced pain and a tugging sensation on my lid/lash with each lash she applied. When I voiced my concern she brushed it off (maybe she misunderstood me?) and continued on. It got to the point where I was visibly crying because of the pain. In response to this she gave me a tissue and asked if I was okay. No, I was not. I wish I'd ended the service with the first sign of pain instead of giving her the benefit of the doubt hoping she'd adjust. Hindsight really is 20/20, huh? Eventually, the woman I usually see finished with her client and completed the application of my lashes. Fast forward to a few hours later, I realize that both of my eyelids are tender, some lashes to the point of pain. I literally cannot squint or blink hard without significant pain to the corner of my right eyelid. After googling if this is normal (again trying to give the benefit of the doubt and see if it's just me), I realize that no, lash extension application should NOT be painful at ANY point. This new information also made me realize that what I thought was quality service these last 6 months has not actually been that great. Nearly every application has resulted in pain as the lashes grow out. Like actual pain if the lash is touched. I thought this was normal, but it is not. Who knew? Clearly not me. So in short, here I am, writing this review with a full set of lashes on my face causing me pain each time I blink too hard. I'm terrified of the pain I will experience as they grow out, but am unsure of my options at this point given that I cannot remove them myself. I almost never write reviews, but felt I had to share my experience to hopefully prevent someone else from enduring the same. I gave them 2 stars only because they usually look really nice despite the discomfort that follows as they grow out. Unfortunately, this time they appear uneven with more lashes on one eye than the other. Go figure. read more

Like another reviewer said, do not come here for lash extensions. I'm in the area for work so I came here to get a fill on existing lashes. The first was decent. The process was completed in 30 minutes which I thought was weird but they looked ok. I came for a second fill and it was painful! She poked my eyelids, at some point a fluid went into my eye and the tape was painful. I now have broken natural lashes that are poking me in the eyeball. Lashes going in every direction and they hurt to wash. They use terrible quality lashes that feel like plastic. Never again. read more

Wonderful experience! Delighted to have gone here for a brow wax service. I came across this place on Groupon and wasn't sure as Groupon deals are either hit or miss. However, I called in and was instructed promptly about the hours, services and all. I went in and was greeted politely. She was gentle on my skin when working with the thread and also spoke to me in a very polite and professional manner. Something different at this place that I've not gotten in other places is that she observed and explained thoroughly how my brow shape naturally is and what I can and cannot do with it (different shapes, arches due to spars brows area etc). So this was quite comforting because she knew her stuff well and also made sure I knew what I was getting. The result was great. She did an awesome job and the service was superb. I have been going to Merinaz salon to get my eyebrows threaded since I moved to DC 3 years ago. Lipika is always professional and kind and extremely thorough with the work she does. The salon itself is clean, bright, and inviting. Lipika has always taken her time with my eyebrows to produce flawless results each time. The brief head massage and lotion that is offered at the end of the threading experience is also a great touch! I heard about Merinaz through their Groupon promotion for eyebrow threading. I was reassured reading a lot the positive reviews that my experience would be pleasant. The setting is perfect as soon as you step in. Water and coffee are complementary, along with a comfortable seating area to wait, magazines to read, and mini chocolate bars for a additional touch of sweetness. She listened to what I wanted (cleaned up brows with a bit of an arch), and she did an amazing job. I told her I had never had threading before, and was gentle and made sure I was comfortable. Best brow place I've been to in DC. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon without an appointment, so there were about four people ahead of me. However, I didn't have to wait for too long. I also didn't mind as it was clear the place was popular which is a good sign. When I finally sat in the chair, the threader was super kind and asked me what I wanted to do with my brows as far as shape, thickness, etc. She was quick, thorough and gentle. I am guilty of waiting too long between Brazilian waxes, so a few times a year (when I finally choose to wax), I subject myself to absolute torment. This is BY FAR the BEST wax I've ever had! Take it from a girl that endures the worst pain on a regular basis: my wax was so painless, (I shit you not) at one point it tickled. Ask for Rupika. She's now my Brazilian shaman. The owner did a brow tint and threading and took great care of me! It was my first experience tinting my brows and she did an amazing job. I have blonde brows and was nervous but I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. This is by far the best eyebrow salon around (in comparison to DuPont threading, etc). I got a deal for lashes at this place and it was so hard to make an appointment!!! It was wierd it didn't have a voice msg. I called so many times then finally someone got back to me. The service is great and the women who did it was so nice and just wonderful. The lashes started to fall out by the next day. I highly recommend! I have been getting Brazilian sugar waxes here for almost two years! Lol Amazing! Amazing! The best waxes I have EVER gotten. I love the sugaring because it's natural- lemon, honey and glycerin (sugar). So it's lighter and healthier than your traditional hard wax. It's actually a lot less painful than hard wax and the clean up?!! Smooth. My skin feels absolutely amazing. Lipika usually does my waxes and she is very thorough, she takes her time and even offers to take a break, if needed. I decline, most of the time only because I want to get it over with. Y'all my vagina is so smooth and clean like a baby's bottom. She was super sweet, friendly and just a joyous spirit. She made the experience so pleasant. I loved that informed me of we got down to the last two strips lol Overall I love getting waxed here. Absolutely terrible. I've gotten my lashes done here prepandemic and had a great experience. The lady working there today (11/4) was awful. I told her exactly what I wanted (natural with various sizes) and my lashes look AWFUL. too long, fake and not different sizes. Also, she delayed my appointment because she took walkins. II would have said something about my terrible lashes but there were 3 other people waiting. I plan on calling the management because I've truly never had a worse lash experience read more

I made an appointment Monday to get my eyelashes done for Thursday at 6pm, I had made plans for Thursday at 8pm, and I thought I had plenty of time. I called before my appointment to triple check I had an appointment, as I never got a confirmation text or anything. She repeated my name and asked if I could come in at 6:15 instead. Okay, I though, still have plenty of time. I got there at 6:15 and she was in the middle of an appointment, and there was another woman already waiting. She finished the appointment she was on at 6:30. She then told the woman waiting it was her turn. I thought she was just going to do a quick service, as it was already 15 mins past the time we agreed on. The woman was doing eyelash extensions. She never gave me an eta or told me to come back. At 6:50-7pm, I simply could not wait any longer. I'm sure her services are good, but unfortunately I never got to experience them since she seems to consistently overbook. I'm a very patient person, but it's completely unacceptable and unprofessional to make a client wait an hour without a reason or even an apology. Know that's there is only one person working, and you will be waiting no matter how far in advance you make the appointment (I made mine 4 days in advance). read more

I loved this place! Went in about a month ago with no appointment and had a great job done. I felt like the staff was really nice and attentive. It is the best place for threading in DC in my opinion. I have tried a few and some also very good, but I left Merinaz feeling very satisfied. I had high hopes for this place given all the 5-star reviews, but was extremely disappointed. My old waxing place recently closed so I've been looking for a new one. I had a Brazilian sugaring (which I've been doing for years at other salons) and it was the most painful I've ever experienced - more painful than the first time I ever did it and times I've done it after shaving for several months. The area continued to be red and painful for many hours after (which has never happened to me before). And even after all that pain, there is still a good amount of hair left behind. I have now been to this salon about five or six times for multiple services (eyebrow, lip, Brazilian waxing). This is definitely the best eyebrow and waxing I have gotten in DC. First, the salon is beautiful and there are a variety of snacks and drinks to choose from. It is a bright, clean and welcoming space. For, my eyebrow threading, I told the owner, Lipika, the exact shape that I wanted and it came out perfectly. She was very careful and took the time to ensure pre and post-care. For my Brazilian waxing, I also got the same treatment. I had a previous favorite threading salon in the DC area but this place surpasses the other place by far. Decor, friendliness and cleanliness are all fine. However, the most important factor is the quality of service and what should be expected from a salon that specializes in hair removal and is pricey. I booked an appointment for sugaring of half arms and legs. Wax was recommended over sugar due to the my hair being short. I was concerned because I have sensitive skin but I agreed. Sugar was used on the half arms. Results: several patches of torn skin layers all over my legs and arms. I couldn't see it on the spot but emailed that evening after I discovered the painful patches and offered to send pictures. Beside the fact that it was impossible for me to wear a skirt or dress because of the red blotches, it was painful. I gave them several days to get back to me - nothing.
