What a pleasant experience! Somehow I've never noticed Merinaz despite clearly walking past regularly! I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and was greeted by the loveliest woman. I was lucky enough to come when the salon was empty, so it was very peaceful. The salon itself is painted in a bright, charming tone and was absolutely spotless. The technician and I had a pleasant, fun chat while she smoothly and efficiently took care of business in my down below. Nice "n smoove! Do NOT do lashes or go for any customer service! The two ladies working there were the rudest service providers I have ever met. I went for a lash refill, I explained what I had and what I wanted (down to the size and type of lashes) but I left with something completely the opposite. When I called to let her know that I specifically asked for a mink re-fill, the answer I got was that she used a thicker mink. There is no such thing. It's either mink or synthetic. The owner was nice enough to offer another tech to redo my lashes the next day. Well, that tech and service were worse than the first experience. Going back, I fully expected better service and definitely to leave with amazing lashes but neither happened. The way the second lady spoke to me was so shocking, I didn't even know what to say to her. Never in my life have I experienced customer service like that. Both techs didn't even try to hide the fact that they were so rude. The bottom line is that both of them do NOT know how to do lashes. In the 12 years I have been getting my lashes done, it's never taken less than 45-60 minutes per session. When they both finished in 30 minutes or less, I knew it was a recipe for a disaster. How rough they both were in handling the most gentle part of your face was also very surprising! The way the Second Lady was all over my nose and mouth attaching lashes told me that she is either not trained properly or not certified at all. I did ask for her certification but she told me off. :) I am certain all their 5 stars are from doing brow threading and waxing. It's my fault for not digging deeper into their reviews to learn that I should not have gone there for lashes. I have been coming here for a couple of years now, and I definitely recommend! I get SO many compliments on how natural my lashes look. I normally get the classic lashes. I also love that there are always so many appointment times open, so it is always very convenient for my schedule. It is also one of the only places that I've gotten my lashes done at that doesn't take more than an hour. I did have a not so great experience with lash removal one time here, so I've been going to someone else to get them removed only if I want to take a break. PSA: please do not come here for nice lash extensions!!!! I was gifted groupon for classic lash extensions here and this place does not give you lash extensions. They give you fake lashes glued onto your eyelid. I cannot see a single lash that was actually glued onto an eyelash. They are all just glued on under my eyelashes, and very uncomfortable. This place is not trained do proper eyelash extensions, so don't get sucked into the "good deal" since it is cheaper than almost all the other places in DC. I have been getting lash extensions for the past 4 years, and I can already tell that these are going to hurt in a day or two and will damage my lashes because there is too much glue on my eyelash bed. I am going to get these off as soon as I can at another place. The whole experience took about 40 minutes. The smell of the glue was so strong I swear I was getting nauseous. The person who got her extensions before me had a mild asthma attack. I did not see the lash tech clean the tweezers after the last person. I asked the tech to change gloves after she got up to cough, and she didn't, saying that she did not touch any door handles when she stepped out. Like girl, I heard you coughing up a storm in the next room and spit out phlegm. The least you can do is change your gloves. She was also very tired, not enthusiastic and did not like my request for a "cute" style, meaning shorter on the ends, longer in the middle. Again, do yourself a favor and do not come here for eyelash extensions unless you're ok with an uncomfortable uneven set of lashes glued onto your skin and glue that smells like super glue. read more

The consultation prior to the appointment was not very clear and there was definitely a language barrier. Recently got 3D/Natural Set lashes at this no-frills salon - tbd on how long they last. Great value for the money, you get what you pay for. There are no private rooms, and the chairs are lean back chairs (rather than beds like at some places, although I think they adjust) On my first visit, the technician jumped straight into applying my eyelashes without consulting me on what style or look I was going for. I asked for longer fuller lashes (since I originally booked 3D) and she ended up doing a blend that are super long but not as full as desired, I was hoping she would help achieve a fuller look given her experience & the rave review. Even though my lashes are generally rather sparse, I would have taken her recommendation for 4D lashes to achieve a fuller look. Make sure you come in here with clear directives and pictures of what you want. Since I've moved to Adams Morgan, this has been my go to eyebrow threading spot. The prices are competitive, the hours are great, and I have been happy with my eyebrows. The last time I went however, I also received a Brazilian wax. I have been getting brazilian waxes regularly for around 8 years and this was one of the weirder, most uncomfortable experiences I've had. For starters, the position the waxer put me in did not make sense for a brazilian and felt like it was the waxer's first time doing this service (legs dangling down from the table rather than butterfly.) She did large areas at a time without letting the wax cool enough, so it was extremely painful and she had to go over her work. It got to the point that I just asked for a bikini line wax instead because it was too painful. For the butt strip, she had me go in a happy baby yoga pose which was very odd. Overall, I definitely recommend Merinaz for a brow threading but I would not go here again for a wax. It is obvious threading is their specialty, so go in with that in mind. read more

When I came back for a fill and had to alter my appointment time 2 days in advance, there was a misunderstanding and I had to wait 45 minutes for my service. I was appreciative that this salon allowed me to book an early appointment so that I could have my lashes done before my event this evening. I was told to come in at 9:30am. After driving 30 minutes in the rain, I arrived to find the door locked. I called several times and was unable to get ahold of anyone from the salon. I tried again at 9:45 and finally got through to someone. She tried saying someone was there waiting for me and that I should have called. When I told her I knocked and called several times, she said "well I'm sorry, the earliest we can take you is tomorrow." Very unprofessional--staff needs to clearly work on communicating appointments to their stylists. I am fairly certain this was an attempt to cover the fact that no one was there to take my appointment. The representative not only tried to make this feel like it was my fault, but offered no apology whatsoever. My usual threading place - I found Merinaz via Yelp and decided to try it. The place is easy to find (upstairs via a stairway - just look for the sign on the door), friendly, clean, and affordable. The technicians are both great (even though I have my favorite), and they listen to you closely. I could walk in and walk out the door within 10 minutes or so. Now a devoted threading fan, I bought a 6-pack to save money and come here every 6 weeks or so for a refresh. Very happy customer here! read more

The woman who threaded my eyebrows did a great job and was patient and careful. She used real aloe from a plant to soothe my sensitive skin afterwards. I have terribly sensitive skin and she was so gentle I felt bad for taking up so much time. She was wonderful! Review for eyelash extensions- I really liked the appearance at first. Though I didn't really know how to maintain them initially. At the end of the appointment I was given a pink disposable lash wand and told to comb them every day. It's been a week and I have a stye and my eye is irritated. I loved them at first but they don't feel soft like lashes they feel like the have mascara caked on or something (I didn't use mascara). Due to my eye infection I'm just going to take them off tomorrow. I think before you get eyelash extensions watch a video of how you clean and maintain them. How to sleep in them. Combing them with an eyelash wand didn't work for me. The lashes just came out leaving what looks like a lash bald spot. Anyway, I hope the lashes work out for everyone else. read more

Walked in to get my eyebrows threaded and tinted. The space is really clean, spacious and inviting. There are five chairs in the front so I didn't have to wait to get service. My technician did a really thorough job matching the tint to my hairline and checked in with me multiple times to make sure I liked what she was doing. When threading she was really gentle and took the time to make sure my brows were symmetrical and there were no stray hairs . I had a Groupon for a microdermabrasion. I had a bad feeling as soon as I walked in for my 530 appointment. When someone else walked in at 530 I was asked if I could wait 10 minutes while she does her Brazilian and I said okay. There was only one person working and she said that's how it normally is... 25 minutes later we start the microdermabrasion. I've gotten several at different salons and knew this was off from the start. The steam portion lasted at least 20 minutes which if off and there was never any discussion as to what was happening at each step. Then the actual microdermabrasion portion only lasted 10 minutes!! Not to mention her phone was on extremely loud volume ringing behind my head and she was watching videos. I thought I was on a prank show and someone was going to jump out! I made an appointment an hour prior to arriving so kudos to them for flexibility. Lipika was kind and attentive to my wishes. She even asked me which "line" on my eyebrow she should stop at as I requested my full brows remain and just a clean up of the stragglers. However, I'm not a brow expert and wasn't quite sure so the line I gave her ended up being a tad bit too thin for my liking. In my years of striving to find a brow specialist, I've realized I like my brows the most when they're trimmed prior to threading. I think this method allows the specialist to follow my natural shape better and when the brows grow out they don't have that choppy, uneven look. Unfortunately, Lipika trimmed after the threading and while they look OK, I'll definitely keep searching for threading specialist. read more
