Their treatment was impersonal and dismissive, making an already difficult moment even more painful. We were told that the individuals that came to pick up our loved one was likely new and not trained. What we observed was far from it, it was clear the 2 employees were very much in sync and had done this many times. At the service itself, we received only 1 of the 2 pre-paid flower arrangements we selected (the small one!). We prepaid for El Cajon mortuary's services for both of our parents. We had high hopes that the first experience was unique but our 2nd experience mirrored the first, confirming that the poor level of care we previously received is not an anomaly. The upside is we at least received BOTH pre-paid flower arrangements the second time. If you are seeking a mortuary that offers respect--both emotional for you and physical for your loved one, please consider other options.

With her being out of state and her father's death being health related he was released to my custody. The only mortuary I could think off was the one in Poway that I have passed for 40 years. As a nurse helping prepare the body for transport was nothing new. This time it was an honor to stay and see our dear friend off. We told his daughter the stories we shared while waiting for another transporter to arrive. Everything was done with dignity and respect. The driver said he noted that his young daughter would want to see him so he could be prepared. His daughter arrived that night and call the mortuary. She said they told her they were very busy and had a lot of deceased coming in. She was told she could come to say her goodbyes on Monday morning. Having just lost my father recently, I to flew in and need to say good bye to my favorite person on this earth, my dad. He suffered from Parkinson's for the last five years. When I went to him he never looked better. He looked so honorable and sharp ready for god. I was so comforted by how good he looked and it was not a viewing it was just me. This young daughter would not have the same experience I had in Virginia. Malissa told her he was in his natural state. How would anyone not in the industry know what that meant. She said he had blood in his nose and blood coming from his ears. His face was smashed. I unzipped the bag to hold his hand, it was covered in blood. She was hysterical. This is the last image she has of her father. Beyond heartbreaking. I called Malissa to say WTF. Malissa she told his daughter what state he was in "natural state" said she said he was cleaned up. His daughter will never unsee what she saw. Because I supported her going to see him I feel guilty that her goodbye was nothing like mine. NOTHING. I looking up trauma therapist in her home state now. Flipping through the folder Poway Mortuary gave her with hand written notes about an open casket, flowers and merchandise. I feel sick. In Virginia this is done on a separate day. Do not send a young person there by them selves. This place or any place for that matter. No one should go alone ever. It's overwhelming enough. When we brought this issue to the attention of the front office, we were told that there are no security measures in place to prevent theft and that we would simply need to purchase a replacement vase, costing over $50, each time one disappears. Considering the significant amount families pay to have their loved ones laid to rest here, this response is unacceptable. What makes this even more concerning is that it is not an isolated incident. Nearly every vase surrounding our loved ones' graves has also been stolen. Instead of feeling peace and comfort when we visit, we are left distressed by the thought of strangers repeatedly stealing from gravesites while nothing is being done to address the problem. Families come here to visit with those they have lost. It is deeply disappointing that protecting memorial items does not seem to be a priority and gives the impression that their profit matters more than supporting grieving families and preserving the dignity of their loved ones' resting places.

Hours after my father passed away, I went straight to California Cremation and Burial as my first choice and didn't regret a bit. Jorge was kind, professional and very honest as far as the monetary amount for the services requested. Their price package was very reasonable compared to the other mortuary around the city. He was very straight forward and never offered extra services that we don't need. He was very knowledgeable on the process with regards to the transfer of remains from the US to overseas. He was able to provide a date for my Dad's visitation service that was convenient to all family members. After we talked and agreed on the services we requested, he was up and running taking custody of my dad from the hospital morgue within an hour. He also posted my Dad's obituary in their website that same day. He was in constant contact, giving me updates and needed documents to facilitate acquisition of his death certificate from the county which he obtained a week after my Dad's passing. I was very impressed of how quick that process went through. Regarding the visitation service, Manuel (Service Attendant) did an outstanding job having my Dad ready at the Chapel at the scheduled time. He was very kind and compassionate to all family members and guests who attended. Reverend Jesse Lopez also performed an outstanding job for his part during the service.
