Most of my family here in San Diego has used the services of Goodbody Mortuary since the 1940s, but never again. Funereal director David Moravee spoke to my family like he was a used car salesman. Never showed any empathy, and harassed my family for the first week after my uncles death for payment. There was confusion, because my uncle always told everyone he had already taken care of everything, yet, Goodbodys lost his file. David would not give us the time to figure it out. Then when he found out money was not the issue, he started tacking on a bunch of other charges. It got to the point where we had to block his phone calls they were so bad. I had told him and the manager that David was never aloud to contact us again, yet he emailed my parents and I again after it was all over. Save your family the trouble, and avoid this place as long as that David is working there. Goodbody's has my contact information. You can get it there if you are really concerned. Goodbody Mortuary was there for me when I needed someone intimately close to assist me in my time of need. Being a married lone man, who just lost his husband, I was devastated. I have no other family, mine or Al's, in San Diego, as they all reside back east. The employees of Goodbody made the preparations easy as Al and I had made our final wishes and plans prepared years in advance. They followed Al's and my wishes to all the small details that we planned, including allowing us to place 8 small boxes of ashes of our deceased dogs and parrot in Al's casket at his feet. It's really jarring to have to plan a memorial for my friend who passed unexpectedly when she was in her 20s. I first reached out to another mortuary where my grandma is buried, and this other mortuary actually referred me to Goodbody because we were on a limited budget (or maybe the other mortuary was too busy to take on more customers). Karen the sales rep and Ethan the Director were very respectful and understanding as they helped us navigate through the paperwork and the cremation process during a very heartbreaking and disorienting time. We are very thankful for Ethan's arrangements and accommodations for my friend's mom as she mourned through the death of her daughter. Ethan went above and beyond to support my friend's mom and her various requests, allowing mom to accompany her deceased daughter on her journey up until the very end. Ethan helped us expedite the paperwork since my friend's mom is only in the country for a limited time to arrange for her daughter's business, and includes the loved one traveling internationally to return to her home country. One thing to note is you do need to know what you want and not want, decline any extraneous services and offerings (mom almost bought the necklace with the beloved fingerprint, except it takes too long for the customized jewelry). We really appreciate the team at Dignity Memorial and Goodbody Mortuary, I would recommend their services to grieving families during a difficult time. This probably wasn't the cheapest option and I probably could've done more price-shopping, but the service was really good and we are grateful for that. read more

Goodbody and all the employees treated myself and all my family members with such deep respect and compassion. David Moravee was my primary contact person and he was most empathetic and always available regardless of my concerns or questions. Goodbody made us feel like we were family going through our loss with their genuineness of sympathy and did everything possible to make this transition as smooth as possible. Having to deal with this situation is hard enough when you choose to just get your affairs in order but I did not have that luxury and my initial contact with Goodbody and arranging the plans for my husband was most difficult. The director did not push me or rush me and encouraged me to take baby steps while making my decisions and that I could always add to choices made when the time was at hand. I can't believe there hasn't been a review for this place yet! As an active Yelp viewer but not contributor, I believe it's time for me to step out of my bubble and finally contribute! I recently lost my newborn daughter (she died several hours after I gave birth to her). I don't know if it's because I look young or my husband look gangster (I blame his eyebrows -_-;) but throughout my delivery at Mary Birch Hospital down to the memorial service for my daughter, the ONLY PEOPLE that treated us with respect are the people from Goodbody Mortuary! I could not be happier with the service I'd received from them. To save money, my husband and I decided to cremate our daughter. The folks at Goodbody were more than happy to work with us on a reasonable budget. I cannot thank them enough! Another plus about this place is their crematory is actually at Greenwood Cemetery, which is not far away. My husband and I wanted to bring a Buddhist monk to pray for our daughter during the cremation. It may seem strange to want to write a review for a mortuary but so many get such a bad reputation. We recently lost my mother after a short hospital stay and we chose Goodbody Mortuary because of my parent's church, Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church. Our experience was the best you could possibly imagine during these circumstances. First, my father wanted all of my siblings and I involved in the decision making process. With 2 brothers and 2 deaf sisters, communication can move a little slowly but we never felt hurried or pressured. The associate, Scott, explained all of our options and we felt no pressure to spend more money than we felt was necessary to honor my mother. Scott was also so respectful of how we wanted our mother to appear during her rosary and funeral mass. He guided us to bring a variety of items for her, including her every day make up and jewelry. We were shown options for prayer card and after the initial order, I was allowed to place a follow up order for more cards. During the rosary and family viewing, the ushers were polite and even friendly and tolerant of the youngest members of our family as they made themselves at home. There were smiles and a few jokes as the ushers seem to fit right in with our guests. During the funeral, the ushers coordinated with me and helped us organize so that all of my mother's grandchildren could escort the casket into the church. Afterward, the associates were patient and helpful as we had to plan the burial for another day since my father was military. All in all, Goodbody employees were compassionate, considerate, kind, friendly, and personable. I would strongly recommend this quality of care when dealing with one of the hardest moments in your life. read more

I was very pleased with the services and folks at Goodbody Mortuary. I worked primarily with David Moravee, who was excellent. He was compassionate, kept in touch, responded to all my questions in a timely manner and even made arrangements in AZ for me to take my mom's ashes to a National Cemetry near Phoenix (all arrangements were flawless). The two gentlemen who were actually at the funeral Mass were most respectful. There could have been a potential hiccup, only because I changed the funeral date from what we had initially been discussing; however, David came up with a great 'fix' and all worked well.
