We had our family member pass away and although he had been very ill and it wasn't quite unexpected, it was still very stressful and highly emotional for us to say the least. My mother was the only living close relative and it was her responsibility to act on his behalf to fulfill his wishes concerning cremation and such. I have to say when I read some of these comments and reviews about AMERICAN CREMATION SERVICE ( which my mother had chosen to use for his cremation) I was concerned. But today I write this after having dealed with them having all the paperwork and choosing an urn and today we went there to pick up the remains and only the death certificate . It was wonderful meeting JESSICA and her service and knowledge of her job made things very pleasant and comfortable. She explained everything to us and fulfilled everything just the way she had explained it would happen. My father-in-laws death certificate still appears as a john doe despite the fact American Creamation Services has/was an acknowledges they have been given all the information needed to properly fill out. The staff at American Cremation was super helpful to me. While my Mom was in hospice,.I was trying to be as prepared as possible for what the future would hold for my Mom. A social worker helped connect me to American Cremation. During the first phone call, George was able to walk me through all of the steps and the costs. When my Mom actually passed away,.it was seamless to know what steps to take and how to contact American Cremation. I was also prepared for the costs involved since we had discussed everything ahead of time. A cash or money order payment was a little bit less expensive. They were also able to help save me a few steps and time by obtaining a death certificate for my Mom. Our uncle passed suddenly and without warning. The family was in a state of shock. We reached out to American Cremation Service. Our Arranger, George, was nothing but compassionate and caring. He listened to all our questions regarding price and services, answering each one clearly and without any pressure to make additional purchases. Our uncle was a veteran and wished to be interred at Miramar National Cemetery here in San Diego. George handled all the arrangements from scheduling the internment, flag ceremony and honors rendered by the Navy. I can't say enough about how professionally George handled our family's situation. I suspect this is his normal level of service. Great communication from beginning to end. The smallest details were taken care of and confirmed. I'm sure George grew tired of our nearly daily calls and questions, but he handled them with grace and charm. Always returning our calls or emails within a few minutes. He made us feel secure during a very stressful time. Like any family, we were concerned about keeping costs as low as possible, without sacrificing a respectful tone toward our uncle. After speaking with several cremation services, as well as the large mortuaries in San Diego, American Cremation Service was our choice. I used this company twice. First when my mom past away in 2015 then when my sister past away in 2016. When my mom past away at midnight and i called around 1 am they had someone pick up her body about 4 hours later. When my sister past they picked her up at the hospital morgue. They were very nice on the phone arranging the picks up and when i went to the office to make arraignments for there cremations they were very sympathetic to my loss. Our Mom left us in Dec of 2013. The folks at American were very kind and professional. The Hospice organization had them on their "recommended" listing and based upon initial phone contacts, that was good enough for me. Very fair prices for the services they offer and you can tailor-make what you need. The office is easy to find. I bought an urn online and did not use their offerings, which seemed fine for all - there was no pressure to upsell. We also obtained our own death certificates from county Vital Records just to speed up the process by a couple of days. I do wish we had spoken a bit more about disposition of the Cremains as Mom wished for her ashes to be scattered, but until then came home with us. So the permit was only requested for "going home". Now, I have to get a new permit for scattering, and that cost them a star on the ratings for me. If this is your first time, you dont know the right questions to ask - I feel thats the responsibility of American to be a guide and on that they just didnt take enough time to get the details right. read more

When my wife's uncle passed away in Oceanside we turned to the American Cremation office in Carlsbad for his cremation services. As we live in San Francisco most of the process had to take place over the phone, email and fax. The people at American Cremation (especially Patty) were serious, respectful, and attentive to our needs, without ever projecting the kind of false sympathy some people in the funeral business seem to emanate. They guided us through the process expertly and efficiently, while taking as much time as was needed to ensure we understood what we needed to do. Patty went above and beyond helping with the logistics. Their prices are among the best, and they never even tried to sell us extras such as an urn (hint: if you are scattering at sea you do not need to buy an urn). a blessing When my Dad passed away in 2014 they took very good care of me. They are so inexpensive and very professional I've at least gave over 15 people the phone number. I was about to give the number to my cousin when I came across some negative reviews...Me personally I dont have money stashed away so when somthing dose happen like a death in the family I'm just at ease that there is a place I no is affordable. If I had a choice I wouldnt give American Creamation Service 1 star! My mom passed away Jan. 25 2018. The Hospice nurse called them for me and she looked at me she said I feel uncomfortable asking you this but said they want to know if anyone could help carry my moms body out to save $75.00. . I was mortified. My mom just passed away, I lost it!!!. Everyone one in my house was upset and crying. That is the sickest question I ever heard!!! Where was the compassion?. When I went to the office it was the same thing, no one cared it was all business, I was told I couId fo somewhere else... I was so upset at their behavior I left the office and my son finished. I picked up my mom today. I opened the cardboard box and there is a plastic bag with my mom's ashes, no plastic carton, it was a shock!!!! How disrespectful to my mom... I lost my husband a year ago, I should of used the mortuary who took excellent care of him, but I was soo upset I went with who the social worker from Hospice recommended. American Cremation & Casket Alliance in Marysville Wa. I highly recommend you NOT go there. Prearrange all of the documents, called them at the time of death and were given an estimated time of arrival of 4 hours. That is understandable. Found out later that the widow was still waiting 6 hours later with no updates. Call them and received an answering machine that did not even have their name or a personal message. Left a message that we needed an update. Never received a call back. Family had no idea what was happening. I had to go over their head and call the facility that works with the funeral service. Then was told that it would not be until 9pm before they could arrive. This poor woman's husband had passed at 9:40am, she sat next to him for hours waiting. We fired them and called a different funeral home to come. They did so and did a great job. American Cremation & Casket Alliance needs to get out of the funeral business! read more

They were very professional recently when I lost my Momma. Their care with her when taking her from her hospice was very gentle and compassionate. Working with them has been easy and I even got a hug from one of their employees. They treat you the same whether you spend a little or a lot because their focus is on helping you during a tough time and not squeezing all the money they can out of you. Fast to take your money. Relatively easy initial transaction. They did an AVERAGE job of getting everything together for cremation and the ashes transported. HOWEVER, they originally told us that the remains would be available for pickup for 120 days after cremation. On the day of my father's ceremony, with friends and loved ones in town, I called to confirm the pickup of my father's remains and was told the owners were out of town and UNAVAILABLE TO DISBURSE HIS ASHES. I was told that because I had not called in advanced for pickup the owner had gone out of town. Not once throughout the entire process was I told that I had to make an appointment in advance for pickup. I can tell you I am extremely dissatisfied in having to turn away my friends and family who came from out of town and wasting a weekend of everyone's time because this business lacks professional integrity. My experience here was pretty good overall. Their prices are listed as one of the least expensive, but you just need to look at all the add-ons before. I went for the basic cremation, and then decided to have a private viewing. That was an extra $250. There is a basic price of 595. But there are a lot of small costs which add up. The experience was pretty smooth, and Dolce was efficient and nice. Since I don't have a lot of experience doing this, it's hard to compare with other companies. But overall, it was a pretty good experience. read more

The initial phone call and meeting were great. However, since I am out of town, I needed my mom's remains to be shipped to me. I paid $125 for shipping and they shipped the remains via the post office. The remains were lost for about a day in the USPS system. Then the memory heart that I bought for my aunt broke and my mother's ashes leaked all over the place. My aunt tried to get a new memory heart or some other resolution by ACS , but they didn't seem to be willing to make any effort to correct the situation, despite stating that it might be a manufacturer's defect. Also, when I got my mother's remains, the remains were in a plastic bag and I needed to put them into the urn myself. Not a task I wanted to do. (I am not sure why the remains weren't in the urn). I would not recommend or use their services again. read more

They misspelled my grandmothers maiden name on my father's death certificate and want to charge me $75 for a simple computer change. Going through the state offices only costs $21 but takes longer. The lady I spoke with on the phone was no help. read more

This family run company lacks professionalism and retaliates when you put in complaints. My mother made my fathers arrangements through American Cremation Services prior to his passing due to their lower cost services. This unfortunately was a horrible mistake. My first clue to the poor services we were about to receive was the lack of condolences expressed to my family on arrival to their office. The office is one room with 2 desks. You have no privacy to speak about the final arrangements for your family member. While we were coordinating services for my father, another family came in and was asked to sit in chairs that were no more than 4 feet from us. It was beyond awkward. Everything you want done is an additional cost, so you don't wind up with a low cost service. The viewing location is different from the location of the office. The viewing area is located in a strip mall, has bars on the windows, and limited parking. The representatives will not allow you to tour the viewing area prior to the services, but advise you to go "look through the windows to get a feel for the space". We decided to have the services at an alternative location. American cremation services charged an additional $450.00 to bring my fathers remains to the alternative location. I lost trust in this company, so I asked if I could witness the cremation. To witness the cremation I was told it would cost an additional $250.00. When I complained about the services we had received thus far, and asked to have the fee waived, the owner retaliated against me. I was told not only would they not discount the witnessed cremation but that "because I complained" I now would have to re-sign the forms allowing American Cremation Services to cremate my father. They would not perform the cremation without a new signature, essentially holding my fathers remains hostage. I ultimately went into the office, signed the paperwork, and had my father cremated the same day (I just wanted to be done with the trauma of this experience). The crematory is located in Perris, CA, about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from San Diego. I was told it is "standard" to charge for a witnessed cremation. I called 7 funeral homes to find out if this was actually the case. Only 2 of the 7 funeral homes charge to witness a cremation. I wouldn't call that standard. Do yourself a favor, avoid using American Cremation Services, the passing of a love one is difficult enough to deal with. read more

This has been a very tough year, we lost my mother-in-law in January and recently my father. My in-laws used a different company (who has consistently low scores on all reviews) for my mother-in-law's cremation and so when my father passed away last week, we decided to try American Cremation Services. Contacting the company was easy and the staff were friendly over the phone. When we went to our appointment, we met with Steve. He explained everything and we felt very comfortable. The price was great and they completed all of the paperwork. They called yesterday and let us know my father was there for pickup and now we have him home, which was a huge relief because my in-laws waited waited almost 6 weeks to get my mother-in-law back from the other company. From day 1 we have had nothing, but issues with this place. It's been a week and I still don't even know if my father has been cremated. The girl in the office had issues not unseats ding my power of attorney which caused more issues there then there has basically been no communication. I'm devastated my mother who is blind and in a skilled nursing is devastated. This place is a nightmare! I am livid that I ever agreed to use them! I never would have accept when my husband called the man that he spoke with really knew his job and was very nice. The girl in the office...need a new job. Save yourself heartache and go elsewhere. I used ACS back in 2004. I just found the permit to transport today in my files. And had to look up and see if they were still in business. The gentleman I talked to was the best. Nice as pie. Never tried to sell me anything, which was great, since I hate salesmen pushing their wares. A week after my husband died, he was cremated. Right before the cremation I spent some time with my husband. When I saw him he looked better than when he passed. I was very grateful for their services. Never talked to anyone else but this man, and I am so grateful for his attention to my husband. read more

They told me 3 different stories about why they did not have him ready at their office. They sent me across town to another funeral home (Bayview Crematory Services on Adam's Ave to retrieve a box, that by the end of it all, I was extremely skeptical that it even WAS MY DAD. I was forced to call call the crematorium to demand tag numbers be faxed to me in order to match my father's paperwork to the remains that were actually in the box they finally gave me. The experience was beyond AWFUL on a sad day to begin with. This company is a total zero! Be warned of American and the other companies owned by the same owner. Run from this place. They do not use email only fax. They talk to you in a fake sympathetic voice all the while providing the absolute worst customer service you can imagine. Patty will put you on hold multiple times even during the shortest calls. The paperwork was all filled out by hand in chicken scratch. They do not send cover letters with instructions rather they scrawl it in the margins resulting in multiple mistakes. Completing 4 pages of paperwork required faxing back and fourth nearly 20 times. In addition they change offices each day requiring you to fax to different fax numbers. This is seriously the worst experience ever! My father in law passed Dec. 5th. I was told today we might receive his ashes in three more weeks. That's an entire month and then some. Patty is terrible at what she does. I was left shaking and furious on multiple occasions.
