I took my wife and parents here for a special dinner, and mostly had a good experience. The decor is incredible and the hostess was super friendly. Food was excellent from start to finish, but the dessert was the star of the show. I wish I remembered the name of it (and I can't find the menu online) but it was something similar to a mille-feuille. The only con was our server just didn't seem to grasp that I was the one treating my parents. I'm in my mid 30s so it's not like I look like a kid. When *I* ordered a bottle of wine (I'm a bit of a wine nerd with the certifications to prove it), he brought the first glass to my father to taste as if he had ordered it, so then we had an awkward situation where my dad passed me the glass to taste. Then when he brought the check, which *I* requested, he once again brought it to my father. It was so weird and off-putting. I'm still giving it 4 stars because I don't want to judge the entire experience on what was potentially just one bad server, but it definitely soured some of the mood of an otherwise great dinner.
My, what a fine meal! I reserved online and was pleased with the vibe when I arrived: quiet, chill tunes, upscale but not trying too hard. I skipped the tasting menu and went instead for two seconds: squid and white bean stew and grilled octopus. Of the two, the squid stew was the better in a walkover. The melange of beans, pickled vegetables, and squid left me scraping the bowl clean. It was served with wheat bread that paired well and made it heartier. I liked the octopus as well, but I found myself avoiding the sauce. Was it mole? I should have watched more carefully. Not a bad sauce, just a bit overwhelming. I mostly ate the octopus by itself, and the chef here avoided the cardinal sin of overcooking. Each bite was tender and fresh. With my meal, I drank the Pina Silvestre cocktail. I liked it, but some sips were a bit too heavy on pineapple. Not many, but I had a few like that. Then, for dessert, I ordered the saffron pannacotta which came with caramelized tree tomatoes. Tree tomatoes?? Not something I know well north of the border, but I'd like to learn more now. This is not a cheap meal -- the prices felt American. But it was definitely worth it! I read a magazine and relaxed.
One of the best meal's I've had in recent memory, and strong contender for the title of best overall mea of my recent Mexico trip, which was relatively jammed-packed with incredible food. The chef's mastery of the cuisine of his Northwestern Mexico homeland, along with the overall astonishing greatness of Mexican cuisine in general was perhaps best distilled in the incredible sauces, which manages to convey not only an astonishingly complex depths of flavors, but a sense of culture and place that is so inherent in great Mexican food. Whether in a brilliantly and deliciously complex and pitch black Mole accompanying perfectly prepared Pulpo (Octopus) and bracingly fresh greens or an equally complex and intense Pistachio Mole served along side an equally expertly cooked Mahi, both of which exemplified the Baja native chef ease and familiarity with top tier Mexican seafood, or the vibrant and complex salsas, completely unlike any others I've previously had, which conveyed vibrant and complex flavors and a wide variety of spices while managing to never becoming overwhelmingly spicy, still able to be fully appreciated and digested even by the relative spice wimps in our crew, the sauces really shined through and stole the show, which was no small feat considering how masterfully prepared and delicious all of the cuisine was across the board. In addition to the perfectly prepared fish and octopus, other highlights included the decadently unctuous creamy risotto-like rice with an uni-loaded pumpkin sauce and shrimp, and a umami bomb of a beefy tenderloin with a huge marrow filled bones and snappingly crisp rinds of Chicharrón, alongside, as with many of the other dishes some of the variety of the incredible house made tortillas each brilliantly and deliciously showcasing a different wonderful variety of Mexicos incredible strains of maize, perhaps the true heart and soul of the cuisine if not the culture overall. Much praise much be singled out however for the salads, the wonderful Mexican produce as vibrant and fresh as the rest and showcased in wildly original and creative ways including an ingenious use of the native Chayote plant, sliced razor thin and melding deliciously into the proceedings. The fresh greenery was an especially welcome infusion of veggie goodness into our trip through this extremely meat-centric metro. The only real disappointment of the meal was the fact that we were so thoroughly stuffed that we couldn't even force ourselves to sample even one of the delicious sounding deserts on offer, but hopefully we will get another chance sooner rather than later. The refined yet stylish setting was matched by the impeccable and distinctly Mexican service, and it's located in one of the loveliest stretches of Condessa, surely one of the pound for pound loveliest neighborhoods in the world. It, along with immediate neighboring hoods, does also currently rank as among of the most intensely and rapidly gentrifying in our post covid world, if not the most. Dining at a restaurant like this or another one of it's ilk, where seemingly almost if not all of the tables including ours were speaking American-accented English, with maybe a random British accent in the mix no doubt raises numerous thorny and uncomfortable questions. Are the prices out of reach for the locals or are they just way too proud an savvy to be taken in by gringo-bait and know they can get equally transcendent food at countless other places across the vast Metro? Does dining here in anyway benefit the great city and locals as a whole, including the seemingly fully Mexican and Spanish speaking staff or only further amplify the Air B&B amplified invasion of outsiders to the immediate environs which has in turned not only drove up but limited the housing stock of the neighborhoods everyone has fell in love with in the first place? All worth thinking long and hard about and while I surely recommend limiting the high end meals out when in the city in favor of getting more of the even more incredible and mind bending, and surely more authentic street and market foods, I would surely recommend this place as one of the select upscale meals to squeeze in because hey, you gotta at least have a few when down here!
Probably the beat dinner we had in Mexico City. Modern and spacious indoor dining plus outdoor seating as well. They recommend 2 plates each. Some needed 2 others satisfied with just one. Highlights were the ceviche, risotto with beef and the tostadas. The menu changes often so they didn't have what we eyed on Yelp but lived what we got instead.
Don't believe all the hype! So I gave it a 1 Star but changed it to a 2 because I thought the space was good; food not so much. For a so called "Surf and Turf" resturant the only fresh fish they had on the menu was "Mahi Mahi" - that is so lame. (I live in MX and it is not the season for that fish so I know it would have been frozen. We had the Lamb Chops and the Pork Chop. The Lamb was close to being inedible and the "Pork Chop" was a pounded out piece of Pork that was deep fried and pretty tasteless. I told the manager and all he said and did was to tell me "he'd look into it"; yeah thanks for that. With all the fine restaurants in Condesa N. Roma area you could do much better then spend your money here.
Truly one of, if not the, best meals I've ever had. On a recent trip to Mexico City, I was looking for a Michelin star restaurant and while I'm still not sure if this one technically is, it showed up in my search and was quite close to where I was staying. It was also extremely easy to get a seating, making a reservation the same day. The tasting menu options were fantastic and portions were gigantic. We left so full it was almost painful but I also could not leave a bite behind! I started with seafood crudo, then had the best pumpkin soup I've ever tasted, a main course with steak and bone marrow and finished with a cheese plate. The service was cordial and the atmosphere was quite nice; we sat at a table right by large open windows and I believe they also had outdoor seating available. All in all a fantastic experience and truly an amazing meal. Do not skip this restaurant if you are in Mexico City!
Honestly one of the best meals we have had in CDMX and we booked it randomly and last second. Ambiance was 10/10 service was very good. We weren't super hungry when we came in and ordered the beef tartar which was great, the creamy shrimp risotto with uni was a stand out for me and my partner devoured the sweet potato. Would definitely come back
I loved my meal at Merotoro, but my wife thought it was just "good." Located in trendy Condesa, Merotoro's design fits in well. It is lovely and very chic. Miguel, our server, was helpful and tolerant of our poor language skills. The food was excellent, and my beef cheeks were maybe the best I have ever eaten. My octopus and sweetbread appetizer was very savory. My wife didn't do as well, because her risotto and grilled salmon trout main were just mediocre, but I'm writing the review, so Merotoro gets five stars. This wasn't the best of the best, but Merotoro probably deserves 4.5 stars. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would return.
First off, the decor of this restaurant was simply beautiful. It really added to the ambiance of the dinner. We got the 5 course tasting menu. Many of the dishes incorporated local Mexican ingredients which was a really great touch. Also got one of their mezcal cocktails (Tigre Pabloma) which was a perfect blend of spicy, sweet and smoky from the mezcal. Our favourite course was the dessert which was very unique in terms of flavour profile. My only criticism for the restaurant is that other than the dessert, none of the courses re-invented the wheel/were extremely unique. Overall, great service, cozy environment and balanced tasting menu (we thought it was reasonably priced too!). Would definitely recommend to others :)

For our last dinner in Mexico City, we splurges on a wonderful dinner at MeroToro. For starters, we shared an order of the Tostada De Jaiba (soft shell crab on a ceviche white fish). We were presently surprised that it was served split onto 2 plates. For the main course we each ordered the Lobster dinner that was tastefully charred. And to finish we enjoyed the goat cheesecake smothered in a berry sauce. Abel our server was delightful and the staff was very friendly. read more

Easily one of the best meals of my life! The service was impeccable and attentive and so kind. My friend and I got three courses, dessert and cocktails. Each dish was better than the next or just as good. The ceviche was refreshing and they brought us tortilla (crackers) to eat them with, the squid stew came with freshly made bread, and the steak and bone marrow with more bread. I wish I could experience this meal again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special experience. read more

The flavor explosion! We stopped in on whim without a reservation and were pleased to be accommodated. It was a busy place filled with well dressed laughter and gorgeous food. We ordered drinks of course and let our waiter select some of his favorites as our appetizers. Both were so delicious we never wanted it to end. Alas, I hope to visit again when in Mexico City. read more
Randomly stumbled upon this place while looking for a dinner spot on our first night in CDMX! And it definitely did not disappoint. The service was incredible, and they were able to accommodate us last minute without a reservation! I love every single dish and drink that we tried. I was a huge fan of the beet mezcal cocktail that they had on the menu. Love love love the presentation of all the food and the space that they have. A fresh twist on Mexican cuisine! read more

Loved this restaurant. The place is simple and unassuming, with some stylish details. Service was excellent. Very useful recommendations and extremely nice server. We had a cheese table to start and a tuna tostada. Both great. We then had the ribs, it was mouth watering! We were craving cheese so we had a cheese table for desert as well... everything was wonderful. Highly recommend this place for any occasion! read more

Expat haven in the heart of Condesa. Not too pricey for Americans but it might be for locals. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor connection, so if the weather is warm, such was the day we were having, then by all means sit closer to the external part of the tables. Get their ceviche and their beef tartare. For entree I tried the fish which was delicious. It bills itself as a Northern Mexican cuisine, and it's hard to wrap my arm around it because it really just means the section of the Mexico that boarders California, which to us would be the southern part. Having spent lots of time in Baja California, Merotoro does remind me some of the food I have had in Baja. Merotoro is a good find. I would definitely come here with another person, and order a couple of appetizers, two entrees, and tea and coffee, plus a dessert to share. Afterwards, walk around Amsterdam which is a nice little loop to rest your stomach. A great place - if you are into Californian cuisine, this will satisfy your cravings. After all, Californian cuisine is no more than Northern Mexican, as I discovered on this trip! read more

Wow. The food is seriously amazing. Beautifully presented, flavors were exquisite. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive without being fussy. Hubs had a mezcal jamaica which was delicious. We shared our plates - octopus and chorizo, ceviche, beef short ribs, and a bass and mussel stew. Would have licked my plate but there were other diners. read more

It's a beautiful restaurant with warm, friendly, and highly professional service. The drinks were excellent, and the food was beautiful. This was the first place we ate in Mexico City and I'm so glad we did. Local wine, local ingredients, and even beautiful ceramic tableware. That Mezcal Basil cocktail was so lovely I'm still thinking about it. read more

Delicious high quality food, great service, and comfortable yet stylish atmosphere. Portions are big especially for a four course tasting meal, so while it can somewhat pricey you get a lot of bang for your buck. We ordered the tuna tartare appetizer, creamy wild mushroom risotto, pork jowl medallion, grilled wagyu beef, and swordfish (was a tad dry). Ended with the almond cake and cheesecake, all was amazing and added up for a solid nice dinner in Mexico City. read more

I truly was impressed with this restaurant. The chef was one of the first major restauranteurs in the now famous Valle De Guadalupe. This seems to be a Mexican restaurant influenced by Italian cuisine. But let me tell you firth things first this place has the best olive oil in all of Mexico City. This is not common as most places do not have access to god olive oil so initially when the bread was brought out to start this was something I definitely noticed. For food we ordered two dishes the lamb and rice stew and the pappardelle. The lamb was pretty good but the pappardelle stole the show. I was presently surprised to find such a of Italian pasta in Mexico City. We also had the banana creme brûlée for dessert. It was so good. It came with fresh made banana chips which paired perfectly with the creamy texture of the dessert. I would definitely recommend this. This was a great dining experience. Would definitely recommend coming here! read more

The food here is like a nouveau Mexican fusion..not really Baja but delicious nonetheless. The ingredients are fresh, service was outstanding. Pricier than other options in the area but well worth it. Nothing better than familiar food prepared in a creative, artistic, and unexpected way. Highly recommend the lengua (pictured here), the sea urchin and the cocktails. Docked a star because the restaurant is open to the street on one side and it was so cold we had to leave our coats on through dinner, so just come prepared if it's cold. read more

Items Selected: Fluffy Bread, Olive Oil, Sea Salt Tuna Aguachile with Avocado, Radish, Sea Beans and Jicama Octopus with Potatoes, Gizzards and Cucumbers Roasted Carrots with Almonds and Bok Choy Grilled Prawns with Lemon, Butter and Spicy Vinaigrette Roasted Chicken with Pumpkin Puree, Lima Beans and Sweet Potato Gnocchi Warm Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Macadamia Nuts Caramelized Figs, Persimmons, Beets and Honey Frozen Yogurt Located in Condesa and featuring cooking concepts developed in Baja California, a style of cuisine unknown to Mexico City prior to the restaurant's arrival, owners Gabriela Camara and Pablo Bueno continued the success they started at Contramar with the debut of MeroToro in 2010, the still-popular space chosen for dinner on Tuesday night just as Capital City's weather was about to turn wet for the next 48 hours. Famously known as one of the city's most desirable reservations, available only by phone as the website is sparse and service as well as the menu are only offered in Spanish, it was for a two persons at Six o'clock that a table was booked just a few weeks prior, requests for the patio granted only to be soured by inclement weather just as the room began to fill with the well-dressed and wealthy. Designed like many trendy restaurants stateside, a long and uninterrupted room with industrial-chic styling and a standing area to one side plus full bar in back, it was after brief greetings at a hostess podium that diners were invited to take a seat at one of several tables where bottled water was quickly poured and menus were offered, the daily rotation of Seafood impressive for a city so far from the ocean, though a bit of translation was necessary to better understand some of the more esoteric items which soon led to an order sent out seven individual courses. Not particularly busy early on, but filled to capacity when dinner ended two hours later, it was with light drizzle slowly transitioning to a steady downpour that diners sat watching the small park where pedestrians seemed undeterred in daily activities, the first plate to arrive featuring tender chunks of Tuna marinated in Citrus alongside Chips and a sidecar of light brown Salsa for those truly looking to heat things up, the cooling effect of Avocado, Radish and Jicama doing an admirable job of bringing balance to a dish served in a large and sharable portion. Happily tucking into a basket of fluffy white Bread with a robust crust, the small bowl of Olive Oil and Sea Salt speaking to California's influence on the cuisine, plate two saw the kitchen present tender slices of Tentacle in the unexpected form of a stir-fry tossed with boiled Potatoes, crispy Chicken Gizzards and warm Cucumbers, the sauce a complex and savory affair with light sour notes and just a hint of Sugar. Never one to pass on Carrots, the mélange of Purple Knights and other heirloom varieties lightly roasted and presented atop pureed Bok Choy with slivered Almonds and Spinach, course four was a straight forward bit of Spanish perfection, four whole Prawns grilled and butterflied with a zesty Butter sauce that commanded a second basket of Bread specifically used for sopping. Admittedly challenged by the menu's verbiage, and thus missing out on a Ham and Egg dish that is said to be a MeroToro signature, the final savory of the night featured a quarter-Roasted Chicken with Pumpkin Puree, Lima Beans and Sweet Potato Gnocchi that was well made, if not particularly noteworthy, the decision to save room for dessert thankfully proving a good one as the Brownie made from Oaxacan Chocolate was soft, dense and moist while the arrangement of Caramelized Figs, Persimmons, and Honey Frozen Yogurt offered a tantalizing look at how to offer something healthy yet indulgent with the sweetness reined in by vibrant Beet Gastrique. read more
