Maverick Dining was a local restaurant with okay food. My burger was good, and the apple pie was delicious. Unfortunately, the salad dressing wasn't very good, and the restaurant itself felt a bit dated and depressing. The highlight of our visit was our waitress, Kylee. She was such a sweet, friendly, and cheerful young lady. Her wonderful service completely changed our experience and truly saved the day. We hope she has a bright future ahead of her. I ordered the steak sandwich special that included 2 sides. I asked for the steak to be medium rare. It was more medium. Also, the mashed potatoes were horrible. The gravy had a lot of pepper of them. I had to scrape it off the potatoes, but the potatoes were still awful! The gravy looked like brown gravy, but I was told that it was "white"!!It wasn't white gravy!!! The special came with dessert, but I didn't get a choice of the pudding. Service was good. "Gourmet" cinnamon roll was probably Cisco. An order of sausage consisted of one silver dollar sized patty. Other than that you really have to try hard to screw up breakfast so it was pretty much an unremarkable event. Capones has better breakfast. read more

This used to be one of the best places in NP to eat, period. Now it is subpar. I understand inflation and cost of products, but when you change the signature hamburgers (frozen, cheap meat, buns are terrible) but keep the names? People notice. They stop ordering, they stop coming. The new fries are superior to the old ones, though. Luckily, the chicken strips and shakes are still the same or else I may never go back. Great local spot that never disappoints. They are always busy so expect a wait! Our waitress was nice, but had a lot of tables so refills and needs went unnoticed. This one is a tricky review to write. On the one hand it was a perfect meal, I left happy and content. On the other hand it wasn't particularly good. It is hard to explain but I will try. First the positives, the food fine/borderline good. And it was cheap. The waitstaff was very nice and everything came out pretty fast. The bad, there wasn't really much bad, there was just an absence of good I guess. The food was just ok mostly. I got a patty melt and the burger patty was tiny but still juice and good, just small for a patty melt. The rye bred was pretty killer but the mashed potatoes were instant. We got breaded mushrooms and they were ok but also some were still frozen at the center. That's kind of the whole story, some great and then an equal part of meh. Another thing to note, I'm 40, but I was at least 20 years younger than the next youngest person in there. It was a veritable sea of retirees. It was busy but i doubt anyone but us ease under 60. That's the kind of place it is. Good not great, cheap not stellar. But that also is what left me extremely happy, some nostalgia, it felt like places my grandparents would take me when I was a kid. Very disappointing! Born and raised in NP. Always a stop when I'm in town. Large group came in with no warning and only 2 waitresses, kitchen slammed. Waited 30+ minutes for food but I get it. The food? No bueno. Food under seasoned and canned gravy doctored up too much! Was told, "That's how we make it. We'll take it off the bill." Ok...but no offer to order another meal which we would of course pay for? No. The evening manager just walked off in a huff and the waitress who had been great, had an obvious attitude change. One person ate, one person left hungry and we had to stop somewhere else for their dinner. We left a full tip on all food ordered, not just food eaten...you're welcome. read more

Food was just barely OK. My husband ordered haddock and got fish sticks, looked like they were right out of the freezer section at the grocery store. They had reviews that their chicken w@s to die for, but it was also just OK. Nothing to write home about and we would not go back. Service was good, very helpful service. The first time I've been there in a long time. I ordered the Rubin. It's one of my favorite go to sandwiches. I asked first if it had plenty of meat. The waitress said; "I think it does." That was my mistake believing that we had the same standard. When the food arrived, I was disappointed to see that it had barely any meat. I don't recommend this particular sandwich. I hope that the owners look into what a Rubin actually is and what folks expect when they order the most famous Nebraska sandwich. Ummm ya so this place is different from other restaurants BUT THE FRIED CHICKEN IS AS DELICIOUS AS MOVIE THEATER POPCORN. it's straight up perfected like any small town restaurant could ever compete with it. It was not the most friendly places visited in town. We walked in with no greeting or idea that we could seat ourselves, when asking the server she ignored me. However, a older lady talking to another guest finally told us we could seat ourselves. We had to ask for refills on our drinks. Not sure we would pick this place to dine again. The price is reasonable though if you're looking for a cheap place (you get what you pay for) this is a place for you. Food was homestyle cooking. Very nice small town diner. Servers were busy, but kind and attentive. We had the fried chicken, it was some of the best we have ever enjoyed. Moist and tender and came out nice and hot. Where to start. We were traveling through Nebraska and were off on our eating schedule, so decided to share a meal. The turkey dinner sounded appealing. We were disappointed to find that it did not include dressing (or stuffing if you are from another part of the country), but decided to forge ahead with the decision. Is thin sliced deli turkey a disappointment? Are instant mashed potatoes a disappointment? Gravy from a jar? Canned green beans? Margarine? Yes, it was a plate full of disappointment. This could have been made at home in five minutes, but why would you? On the plus side, the server was top notch and apologized that the reheating of the dinner took so long. read more

I worked here for 3 weeks. I started at 5 days a week, then one day, then 5 days. I was told that some customers and some of my coworkers complained about me saying God bless you. I say God bless you have a nice day in my everyday life to everyone I come in contact with. I was told that freedom of speech does not apply in a work environment when it's privately owned. So I worked my shift today the only shift I had all this week and I quit. I was told I would only work on Saturdays. I feel that saying God bless you enjoy your food or God bless you have a great day is in no way rude. People have a right to run their business how they choose to do so. As for me?? I will not hold my tongue and not say God bless you to people. I enjoyed the customers and I'll miss bringing joy to the atmosphere. We were traveling through and didn't want fast food!! So we saw this place. It's a nice place to sit and eat. Good service from the time we got there until we left. My husband had the chicken livers and they were a bit overdone. (He says most restaurants overcook/over fry liver)I had the chicken basket and it was good. Basic staples priced right. Prompt service. Food was OK, $3 shake was very good. Lots of families with kids so noisy.

The best thing Merricks had was the smoked porkchop and they took it off the menu. I ordered the chicken fried sandwich meal and the piece of chicken fried steak was so thin. Their was more batter on both sides then the meat in the middle. I noticed prices went up and the food quality has go down. According to the menu my sandwich should have cost $7.25 with one side my Reuben was $13 and some change my onion rings were burnt they do not put thousand island dressing on the Reubens but they don't tell you they don't I asked for a sinus thousand Island dressing and got less than a half ounce I took everything back they replaced my onion rings which I truly appreciate it would I recommend anyone to go to Merricks? Merrick's represents everything that is good about Nebraska: straight-forward, down-to-earth, home style and good values. We stopped while driving from Omaha to Colorado. I saw the Yelp reviews and thought Merrick's might be a change of pace that was worth a try. After looking at the pictures of the menu on Yelp, we were certain these were old "retro" menus and the pricing had to be wrong. We were wrong. You won't find anything "deconstructed" or with heirloom vegetables or microgreens here. What you will find is honest, home cooking at an incredible value. Items like hot roast beef sandwich, chicken fried steak, hot turkey dinner and hand cut steaks. The meals served here are the meals your grandmother would make for Sunday dinner. My husband had the Reuben sandwich (one of his favorite Reubens EVER) and I had the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. We also had onion rings and garden salads and took a few slices of caramel nut apple pie for dessert. All this with a Diet Coke came to $26! Where else can you get that kind of value for a hearty dinner? Our meal was served by one of the friendliest, most helpful servers we have ever had the pleasure of dining with. The kitchen was so fast we couldn't finish one course before the next course was waiting for us. On a Friday night, after driving in from Denver, we arrived about 25 minutes before they closed. They were super sweet, we ordered burgers and fries, and we were served piping hot food almost immediately. Good burgers, skinny fries and cold lemonade, perfect for weary travelers. Our waitress was charming, and gave us great service. Not fancy, this is a local's restaurant with good American fare.
