Classic homestyle food at good prices. We ate here on a Sunday afternoon and had a good experience. The waitress was super nice and engaging to my five year old. THE RANCH WAS AMAZING, I can't figure out what the secret ingredient is- but i loved it. The fried chicken was really good, and the chicken fried steak was a little above average. The worst part was I went to pay and they didn't accept credit cards. I had to leave and get cash and return. I think it's a poor choice for owners not to take cldebit cards this day and age. But hey, it's a throwback establishment so I guess ya take the good with the bad. read more

This place came highly recommended, for the simple decor, the agreeable prices, and the home cooking. I've seen the same prices and better food at Denny's. If you're from N Platte and like the place, more power to you. If you're crossing the country on I-80, you have to pass a number of better places to get there. I won't go back. read more

Have been going to Merricks since I was pretty young. Great home cooked food every time. Love the atmosphere and hospitality from the staff.

It's a no frills diner in the Mid-West! For years my girlfriend always raved about this place, saying that this place had 'food that always hit the spot". What that spot was I still don't know, but I must say that Merricks was pretty decent. We were promptly seated as soon as we arrived, which was a good thing because I was hungry! Upon seating, glanced around the place and tried to soak in the ambiance. Wooden tables and booth seating that moved just a little to easy for me. I also found a butter knife wedged in between our table and the wall. The decorum was very casual and pretty much screamed DINER, which is a GREAT thing! I ordered the Kevin burger (basically a double cheeseburger) with a side of onion rings. My girlfriend ordered the chipped turkey. Everything arrived quickly.. almost too quickly but my burger was hot. I tasted my girlfriend's chipped turkey and it was ice cold, but she enjoyed it. I'm a big onion ring fanatic, and while they weren't amazing, it was decent enough. The service was pleasant and attentive and that's always a good thing! The prices were good.. For years we have struggled to find a decent place to eat traveling back and forth from Nebraska to Colorado. Our search is over! With Yelp help, we chose Merricks and unanimously decided it's our new eating destination for this trip we take twice a year. My husband and I each got the BLT. I got it on rye, my husband got white. It was toasted perfectly with fresh veggies and a good amount of bacon cooked just right. My son got the fried chicken basket and he must've enjoyed it because I did not get a taste. Great, friendly staff. Very small town, down-home vibe to the place. I came due to online recommendations. IIt did not disappoint. I would agree with other travellers and reviewers that the smoked beef brisket sandwich is pretty amazing. Skip the franchise chains and enjoy yummy comfort food in a home style friendly environment. That would be Merrick's Ranch House in North Platte. While visiting North Platte, we really liked our experience at Merrick's Ranch House. There was a wide selection on the menu. Our selections of chicken livers and the Haddock Basket special were delicious. Serving sizes were generous even with my choosing the smaller portion offered as a choice. Additionally our waitress and other patrons were very friendly and helpful suggesting places we might want to go to in North Platte. We definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Exactly what we were looking for! The food was delicious, plentiful and inexpensive. Service was top notch and everyone was very friendly. We had the Hot Beef Sandwich, Chicken Fried Steak, a Rueben and the Shrimp Basket and no one had any complaints. Good luck saving room for the pie though! read more

Nice family restaurant. The young man who waited on us was very good. Food was yummy and plentiful. I had their special which was a smoked pork chop. My husband had the liver and onions which were a little more done then he likes. But again lots. I highly recommend it if you are looking for good food that has lots of locals eating there. read more

If cheap and fast are your only requirements, eat here. The last visit, under the previous owners, convinced me never to return. Ordered the chicken fried steak. It was flavorless and freezer-burned to a degree that was incomprehensible--like it was lost in the back of the freezer several years ago and had just been reclaimed. Certainly wasn't homemade; must have come from CashWa. The side "salad" was just browning shredded lettuce with a glop of cheap, flavorless dressing. read more

5 stars for my favorite hometown restaurant. Their whole menu is good, but their chicken fried steak is to die for. Great ranch (always a big deal for me) and french fries. If you get the chix fried steak go for gravy over everything. The owners and staff are extremely good people, very friendly, and good at what they do. Pretty cheap for some above average food. Id also strongly recommend a creamed root beer (thank me later). I promise you'll leave satisfied. read more

This is the typical diner, with bland flavored food. This place doesn't put out any special item like some diners. It's straight forward no thrills no flavor. It's clean, and if you like slow pace and waiting a while almond with bland food this is the spot. read more

Staff and food were fantastic and it's not expensive. The "Kevin burger" was very filling.

If there was less than one star, this place would get it. We've eaten here many times but today is our last. The owner was trying to help the staff and that was a mistake, obviously she has lost her people skills. She should stick to being an owner and I will never spend another penny on this place. I hope she reads this review and reflects on her behavior. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to eat in North Platte, there are many excellent places with wonderful staff....this is not one of them. This diner is charming in a divey sort of way. The food is cheap--I disagree with the reviewer who compared their prices to Denny's--prices are comparable to fast food. I am always shocked when I go here with a group of 6 and the bill is like $30. WTF? Anyway, the food is OK--it is fast-food type stuff, but the service is VERY FAST and the food is always HOT and FRESH. The fried chicken is popular. Important: BRING CASH. My wife and I went here because it was recommended. Not a good experience at all. The prices were cheap but the food was awful! I ordered fried mushrooms and they were very hard and largest one was still frozen in the middle. I ordered fried chicken and it was okay but not fresh. The fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil and were rubbery. I couldn't eat them. My wife ordered a cheeseburger and it was a thin burger that was previously frozen. She took one bite but couldn't finish it. I gave the waitress her tip and went to use my credit card but they don't accept it. The cashier didn't tell me there was a ATM in the small foyer. Needless to say I was upset. I told them it was NOT a family restaurant. Nothing was fresh. All was cooked from frozen food. If this was good food to North Platte folks then I feel sorry for your taste buds! You don't know good food! Close this place down PLEASE!!!! Never again for me! read more

I don't know where most people get homestyle cooking from, but this is not homestyle. This is mildly warm and above average or above mediocrity of food. The prices are good. The steaks are like eating thru rope. Staff is pleasant and wonderful. They do not accept credit cards like most places in North Platte stuck in the 1980s. Get into the groove boy, you gotta move....
