There is a chiropractor about a block from my house in Medford, and I have never been there…read more Instead, I drive 40 minutes north to Chelmsford to see Dr. Fisher and Dr. Farrell at Chelmsford Chiropractic Center. Dr. Fisher and Dr. Farrell are excellent, thorough, and congenial. They are always willing to answer questions about my condition and treatment, and the answers are always framed in real-world, common-sense terms. The first time I went for chiropractic treatment, I was skeptical. I had heard absurd claims made in the name of chiropractic, and I didn't want to end up in some sort of mystical cult that claimed it could cure pneumonia by twisting my neck. I also didn't want to have my neck broken, or enter a program of treatment that was designed to extend my condition for profit rather than actually improving my condition. Dr. Fisher sat with me for a very long time, discussing the relationship between having back pain and sleeping, for example, and pointing out that I was less likely to get ill if sleeping properly every night. He took X-Rays, which we looked at together, and we discussed exactly how certain configurations of my spine were causing specific types of pain. We discussed how rapid weight gain had put more strain on my back than my back muscles could hold up without pain. Finally, we discussed how to go about fixing it. The plan involved initially getting me able to stand up straight again, and very soon thereafter incorporated a strength-training regimen designed to strengthen my back muscles to accommodate my new weight. Longer term goals included gradual weight loss to relieve some of the pressure on my back. At every point, I understood exactly what we were doing, and I understood exactly why, and Dr. Fisher made me feel confident that it would work, which it did. I cannot recommend Chelmsford Chiropractic Center highly enough.
