    Clean changing room
    Sabrina P.

I joined Merritt a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. I'm a big fan of the workout classes. I've taken several cycling classes, Barre, yoga, and pump. As an ex ballerina the barre class was a bit intense (but I also haven't worked out all pandemic! ). It has been raining a lot since I've joined so I haven't been to the outdoor pool but my roomate loves it. She would always go after her workouts when the weather is nice. I also enjoy hour clean the gym is, and up to date. You also can't go wrong with free coffee!!

Email sent to Dave and his regional, Maria.

If you are disabled and interested in this gym, I would warn you to avoid the general manager Dave Hannibal. He lacked any empathy whatsoever, was condescending, rude and made me feel super uncomfortable. Left crying and luckily got a hold of the regional manager Maria from calling the fed hill location, who was much kinder and able to assist me in a pleasant fashion. And she offered meet with me to show me around. He would not give me Maria's info--I found her on Linkedin and we spoke from there. Sent an email to her and COO and I highly recommend you do the same if this happens to you.

So I tried to cancel my contact at this gym. I was told it was going to cost an arm and a leg to cancel and I was kind of surprised to find that out because the information I was given when I signed up was different. I talked to the GM of the gym and he told me that he didn't believe me because he trust the integrity of his people, which is great. Sooo I asked for a copy of my agreement today so that I could make sure it matched what I had AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW!?!?! The contract was changed and my signature was forged!!!! It's says the contract was rewritten and I never came back to re-sign anything. Also my initial payment has disappeared from the contract and I wonder where that went!!!! This is CONTRACT FRUAD!!!! Down payment is different, start date is different, signatures are forged and the term of the membership is different. Ok in response to your response, I AT NO TIME REQUESTED A SECOND CONTRACT. let's not sweep this under the rug. My initials and signature was forged and yes money was collected when I did the first contract. And obviously I was let out of the contract because fraud was committed. The GM is an absolute joke! I was sent a copy of the contract and didn't think to look at it because why would anything have changed? Months later I take a look and there it is the forged signatures and initials. It's my fault I didn't catch it sooner but that's what I get for trusting that everything was done with integrity. And also if you did nothing wrong why did your corporate office tell my that the employee that did my contract was disciplined? Interesting....

Rooftop pool at the Merritt in Canton

By far the best gym I've ever been to. I moved to Baltimore about two months ago and instantly got a membership at the Merritt in Canton. The membership is on the pricier side, but it is easy to see why and is worth every penny. They offer an extensive amount of classes including Spin, Barre, yoga, body combat classes and many more, with excellent instructors who thoroughly show you the movements and offer additional instruction when needed. The classes typically range from 30 min to an hour and will kick your butt. The gym itself is also huge with all the cardio and weight lifting machines you would ever need. The rooftop pool is just another reason to join the gym, featuring a bar, and two pools. And many lounge chairs to soak up the sun on. They even do the occasional event for their members, like their luau I attended a couple weeks ago featuring hula dancers. You also get access to their other gym locations, which I take advantage of when I'm in the Federal hill/Locust point area. It's not as big, but is still a great side and has an outdoor pool. This location is adults only though unlike the Canton one. Have recommended this gym to many of my friends and encourage anyone who is considering it to just join!

Initially, after my workout I was just going to ask for the gym Manager's information to simply convey my thoughts on several improvements they can stand to make. As there were no paper towels in any of the holders, which happens more often than not, I figured I would raise this on the spot. I noticed several others frustrated when going back and forth between machines, trying to be good stewards of cleanliness. And when I did mention it to the AGM, he responded by blaming the "supply chain." This may very well be true, however, there is no possible way management thought that bath tissue on top of the machine was the best option for replacing the paper towels. Especially to clean equipment. And then no sooner than I returned to my equipment, rolls of paper towels just started to appear. Funny how that happened. But it doesn't end there.  It was, in fact, another patron who thanked me for raising the paper towel concern, before he stated "not that it matters because it is water in those bottles anyway. I have been complaining about it for months, on Google Reviews and everything, but no one has responded. I just gave up." Can you imagine my disbelief when hearing such a claim at such a reputable establishment, with the awareness of what the consequences could potentially be to that negligence? Especially in this day and age, which I will simply leave there. The amount of liability alone if an outbreak were to occur would shutter this location, as well as Corporate. There was no way this was true. But I had to ask.  So again, I immediately went back to the AGM and asked him about this claim. To which he responded, "let me check on that." Like wtf? You don't know? Upon his return, he stated "oh I think I know what happened. The mixer today must have not worked and so the sanitizing solution wasn't squeezed into the bottles. See, this bottle I have here...you can see the bubbles. That is how you know there is a solution inside." To which I replied, "and how would anyone know that? We trust what the bottles say, "Light Sanitizer," but when I sprayed this on the paper towel and on my hands, no scent. Not even a hint. I could literally lick this off my hand and not get sick, this literally has nothing in it. So, you're telling me all of these bottles are water? And that none of this equipment was cleaned today?" His response, "Well, not this morning, apparently." And with the slightest sense of urgency. And who even knows if that was the truth? Like, how long has this been going on? Especially when you meet someone who has been complaining on this exact same issue for a while. There is no way this was a shock to anyone there.  I am utterly disgusted at this negligence, and you all should be too. Consequences and accountability must be administered. As a 100% disabled Veteran, please know this was absolutely a trigger. Did we learn nothing from COVID? And respectfully, one month free does not cut it. I didn't even ask for that. I simply wanted to be able to disprove that man's theory and trust that just the basics are performed when working out. Is that too much to ask? See below for aforementioned recommendations: -Have business cards available for management, not post-it notes. -Have different channels on televisions. -Have more hand sanitizer stations that have solution in them. -Have staff hang a physical copy of the day's classes on the door. -Have staff hang a clock and hooks outside the sauna. -Have staff add a small bench in women's sauna to expand seating. -Have staff turn the sauna when opening and check throughout day.  -If there are no paper towels, please place a sign on the holder. And don't insult us with anymore toilet paper, please. -And make sure there is actual sanitizing solution is in each bottle daily, with someone's initials on the bottle so that patrons can believe it was actually done! Just ridiculous. Do Better.
