Merritt is exactly what I was looking for in a facialist: a super-knowledgeable, one-lady show. And I needed her now more than ever because I'm getting married in three months and want to get my skin in tip-top shape. It was just dumb luck I found Merritt. We were taking our dog home from Clean Critters right across the street and I noticed a little black and gold sign while the kid was taking a leak on the Clean Critters' lawn. I immediately Yelped the name I had squinted to read and found nothing but five-star reviews. A couple of clicks on her website and I had submitted an inquiry explaining my fiancée were looking for facials before our wedding and asked what kind of timetable would be good for the three months we had left. Merritt got back to me basically within the span of an hour with a very informative email explaining a timeline and making a recommendation of some basic treatments based on other clients in a similar situation. She even suggested something I hadn't even thought of which was to consider the back of my dress and bacne! We emailed back and forth about any concerns we wanted to be addressed and some treatment options. It devolved into me telling her all the product I use on my face during any given day of the week (and let me tell you, it is a long list because I like putting things on my face). Two days later Merritt had researched all the product I mentioned and gave me a 4-page Word doc with a breakdown of her thoughts on the ingredients each contained and if any of them might be irritating my skin. The actual facial itself was great and made me so happy. I love a good extraction to get all the gunk out of my face and this one did not disappoint. All the products used on my face felt so luxurious ... and she infuses lavender into the warm towels used to wipe your face. It's those added touches that make you relaxed and that you'll really appreciate. Almost two years ago, I used a gift certificate to one of Austin's fanciest spas where Merritt was then working to get a facial for the first time. A reviewer had recommended facials with Merritt, because she was thorough yet gentle and kind. I'd been dealing with cystic acne (and all its associated problems) for several years. Let's also mention I'm a bit of an introvert and have curly hair; after growing up with various mullets, I'd stayed away from the beauty industry for most of my adult life. I didn't have a skincare routine or know much about what types of products I should be using. I was so lucky to have booked that appointment! Since that day, I've religiously booked monthly appointments with Merritt, who I truly consider a friend. Merritt researches the science behind the products she carefully and effectively uses, and talks you through the process to make sure you're comfortable. I've had numerous microdermabrasion treatments and peels (Jessner and, on different occasions, lactic acid and/or salicylic combo peels). Those treatments plus the in-depth extractions (seriously, Merritt is like a detective) have truly helped with my acne and, perhaps more importantly, my approach toward caring for my skin. Additionally, Merritt is simply a warm, inviting, and interesting person. At every hour-and-a-half appointment we never ran out of conversation topics from life to film to music to history to food to makeup, you name it.
