When this mall opened it was a shining example of a mall and first class. It has been neglected over the years and there are many rumors of it being torn down and the property used for the homeless, price controlled apartments, medical offices, a new hospital, being remodeled as a new updated mall, and a location for food trucks. BUT, the mall hangs in there. Many empty and vacant store locations. Hardly any shoppers and difficult to locate any sales people. It is DIRTY. As in built up grime over years of not being cleaned very well. It DOES have a GQT brand with 16 theaters plus IMAX and is used by locals as an air-conditioned pace to walk for exercise. The Merritt Square Mall is a ghost town these days. They have very few stores open any longer and they have very few food court restaurants open as well. It's actually depressing to walk through the Merritt Square Mall these days and I choose not to visit this mall anymore unless they have a store inside that I must visit. I don't think that this mall has much of a selection at all anymore and the value provided to customers by this mall is none existent. The customer service is still friendly here. read more

From the outside, I was ascared to go in. But once inside, I was pleasantly surprised. I've passed this multiple times on trips from Orlando to the beach, but never wanted to go in. I was on a quest for a book and there's a Books-A-Million here and a mall on the other side! It reminds me of a basic small town USA mall which isn't overly big with the exception of the Anchor stores. I plan on returning to check out Dillards in more detail, JC Penny, the Macy's Back Stage and a restaurant called Margarita something or other (how could that be bad?). It's probably 30-40 minutes from East Orlando and is an easy drive down the 520. read more

This mall needs more stores & a renovation. It does have a movie theater & nice people that work here, but needs major development. Maybe one day the area will get more luxurious and put an LV or designer stores here. One can dream haha read more

My wife and I love visiting malls both for the shopping and the AC in Florida while walking around. This was a great find when visiting Cocco. It is a bit dated in certain areas but near the theater it looks newer. It is very large with plenty of walking with few people to walk into. The theater has IMAX which is a plus. The food court in very nice and the coffee place is great. I would visit again when I an down here again. read more

This is like a ghost town! It is really freaky! We visited this mall 2 days before Christmas. Only about 50% of stores open/ occupied. In JC Penny only around 10 other customers.. this was like visiting horror movie set. Also very unusual stores in this mall. Will not visit again.. made children really scared. Me and my mom went to the mall and we walked in the Nail Studio and she asked a question, the lady signaled her hand to leave and then said " I don't know what where it's at. leave now!!" Which was super rude and then we took a picture of the place and a lady walked out and said she was stupid and weird. Finally the mall security came over saying we have to delete the picture in a public place. Do not recommend if you don't want to be yelled at. NOT HAPPY!!!!! read more

BEWARE IF YOU ATTEND EVENING MOVIE AND PARK ON OTHER SIDE OF MALL. if movie ends after mall is closed they expect you to go out the theatre exit and walk around the outer mall perimeter where much of the outside lighting is NOT WORKING. We finally got a rather surly security guard to let us out another entrance not as far from the car. He acted like we should have known better since the mall was closed. HELLO, we are already in the mall and simply trying to leave through a mall exit that isn't a half mile away with very little working outdoor lighting. There is not much here, but the few stores that are in there have pretty decent merchandise. All of the employees throughout them all our friendly. I found some pretty good deals and theres a few tasty places to eat in or around the parking lot. read more

Gotdang prize vendin machine in the front entrance... took my dollar. I put in the dollar, that corrupt capitalist machine greedily slurped up my bill, but not before rejecting it first due to it being creased. Only the crispest bills for this bouji vending machine I suppose. The cold iron claw of deception came down, gleaming and enticing, and I guided its movement with the joystick towards the object of my desire, a Starbucks coffee mug with a mystery prize inside. After some maneuvering I positioned it above my prize and clicked the button. The claw descended upon the prize like a bird of prey and grabbed it... and came back up holding NOTHING!! "Gasp!" I exclaimed aloud, absolutely flabbergasted. "I have been bamboozled!" I watched in dismay as the claw condescendingly moved back and dropped nothing into the prize slot. At first I couldn't believe it. "But my prize!" I cried, "WHAT ABOUT MY PRIZE!? YOU GRABBED IT! I WATCHED YOU DO IT" My shocked despair quickly turned to anger. All I wanted was a redo. I was cheated. I was wronged. I started banging my fists on the glass. "YOU.... TRICKED ME!!" I screamed, violently shaking the machine. Tears filled my eyes. A frightened mother quickly grabbed her child by the arm and hurried off in the other direction as I began to dry heave. My friend put his hand on my shoulder. "It's over man, you lost. Come on, let's go home." I hung my head in defeat, knowing he was right. I left that mall a changed person, weathered by the weight of a hard-learned lesson that left me a broken shell of a being, trapped in an existential quandary of self doubt and loathing, with my only solace being my own mortality and the knowledge that this anguish will one day come to an end. Oh glorious death. I eagerly await your cold embrace. Also the stores weren't that great. Nothing much in them. It appears to me that the Merit Island Square Mall has no merits to stand on. read more

Its very difficult for me to get excited about shopping at any indoor mall. I think these venues from the 70s and 80s have outlived their usefulness and need to be torn down and replaced with interactive outdoor shopping areas, with open air coffee shops and juice bars with store front parking. I usually come here and enter Macy's from their exterior entrances to avoid having to walk past stores I have no intention of shopping in. I don't know but I would guess that there are still old arcades with dusty pac-man and pong video games and lemonade stands from the 70s tucked inside somewhere and who eats at Food Courts these days. read more

Malls will be malls - let me start off with that. My fiancé and I docked at Port Canaveral; and of all the places we could see while on our cruise, we decided to come here for new shoes, panties and Funko Pops. I mean, it's only Florida and we didn't have that kind of dough to go to the Kennedy Space Center; therefore, we decided that the Merritt Square Mall would be our shore excursion of the day! The mall was clean and pretty empty compared to the malls back home in NYC. We made quick stops at Zumies, FYE, Hot Topic, Game Stop, Victoria's Secret and other stores you generally see at malls. They were nothing out of the ordinary. We didn't find the Pops we were looking for, but we did find my fiancé's new pair of Vans and my panties on sale over at VS. The employees over at Zumies were pretty chill and helpful. VS' staff could do well without calling customers "honey" or "sweetie." I'm pretty sure people find that pretty annoying. Nonetheless, I got what I needed/wanted and that was that. Can't say much about this mall as nothing really stood out to me. read more

This mall is all I needed, it's a very basic mall, but sometimes that's just what you need. The food court was excellent and I had fun walking around the rest of the mall, even though it felt empty. The movie theater was the main reason we went and I have to say it lived up to my standards, surpassed them even. Overall, there are better malls out there, but sometimes you want to see the basic malls. P.S. I had fun seeing the abandoned stores, just to imagine what they were like, especially the Sears. read more

I'm going to give this mall four stars because it is nice, even though many of the stores are closed, unfortunately. It is not the fault of malls these days that things are the way they are with the economy and with our world. We stopped and had a coffee treat at Island coffee in the middle of the mall and it's delicious and the service was friendly and efficient! This is 'our mall.' Sure, it's not perfect. But it has almost everything the locals need with some key anchor stores. The anchors are JC Penny, Macy, Sears and Dillards. There are almost NO vacancies. I came here this weekend because of the storms with my wife and we had a great time. I bought a few shirts and some shorts and then looked at the Yelp reviews. If your are looking for 'South Florida' then you may be disappointed. But this a thriving mall, and yes, even our food court food is good. I give the mall five stars on several counts...the clothes we need to survive on an international level (my wife travels a good deal, and I need to show up and look good by her side) are here. The ability to shop for odds and ends is important (presents and such), the food is actually good (yay Trevors, try buying curried goat anywhere else in Brevard) and knowing we can stroll a 'marketplace' and have a great time is nice. Bottom line is that almost everything we need, can be found here. For a local mall, Merritt Square is actually pretty cool. For the others, Brevard County IS NOT South Beach or Southern California, so lighten up. I for one, am glad that it isn't. That's why we live here. read more

The food court is slim pickings. You have your typical sub-sandwiches, greasy chinese food, and day old pizza from Sbarro's. They have a lot of big department stores here like Sears, JC Penney, and Macy's. I went to Sears and bought myself a pretty little black dress, but I think I will return it when once I get home to NYC. The staff at Sears was just the sweetest and much friendlier than my frequent shopping mall. Don't forget to stop by at Petland Discounts. They have a bunch of cute puppies on display in the back. I can spend all day looking at the cute little dogs except they were probably purchased from a dog mill... I'm only assuming. The dogs were not lying in filthy piss stained conditions, at least not from what I saw, but they could always use a little more TLC. The mall was decorated for Santa and the Christmas season. I wish I could have stayed longer and bought more useless junk, but maybe next time when I'm in Florida. read more

When it comes to malls, I'm pretty much the queen. I love to shop, and the more good stores a mall has for me to spend my cash, the better the mall. Unfortunately, this mall is seriously hurting for retailers. Merritt Square features four department store anchors - Macy's, Dillard's, Sears, and JC Penney. The Macy's is apparently an old Berdine's, and it shows that it's old. The whole place is pretty dingy and old - definitely not like the Macy's stores I'm used to shopping at. The good news is that most employees at this mall are pretty friendly and don't seem to hate their jobs. There is a movie theater, a Ruby Tuesday, and a small (but lacking) food court. However, there *is* a Chick-Fil-A, my boyfriend's favorite, so it's not all bad. Basically, the only stores worth visiting in this mall are Macy's, Dillard's, Bath and Body Works, and the usual athletic shoe stores (Champs, Foot Locker, etc.) There is a Zumies and Pac Sun, both with very limited selections. Overall, this mall is OK if you are looking for something specific that you know for sure exists at one of the stores. Otherwise, don't waste your time! Personally, I have no idea how this mall keeps its doors open - there are so many crummy, overpriced tchotchke stores, I'm shocked that they are still in business. read more

This mall is super quiet / empty. And there are no big action and less crazy people around not like in Miami or Orlando malls. And the working stuff is not so annoying. And it's very close to my home. Any way I like to come here! read more

Don't buy any jewelry from First Class Jewelers. I bought a "gold diamond ring" on 12-22-19. The ring supposedly had six real diamonds in the inside when I got it tested at Zales I found out that the diamonds on the ring where fake. The Store manager lied to me. read more

There's like 3 major stores to choose from, I'm not sure what takes up the rest of the mall space but they need to get more stores in there. Shopping at Macy's was a frustrating experience. There were very few employees working, the lines were very long and many people were running around trying to flag down someone to open dressing rooms. I had to check my clothes out at the perfume counter cuz the only girl working at the JRs section was swamped. read more

This mall is a little dead with a few real gems inside that are absolutely worth not just visiting, but also returning. The lazy bean, the smoothie shop, and the pretzel bite place are all small family-owned and operated places where food is lovingly prepared. I don't really use any of the clothing stores, I really would rather drive to Orlando, but there is nothing wrong with the mall as a whole. Also, they hold a ton of community events here and do a lot to support the local school students. For that reason alone, I have to say its a good part of the community and a good mall. read more

Not a lot of stores and customers who come here seem pretty rude. I doubt I would ever come back to this mall. Melbourne Square is a lot better, and even that isn't a very spectacular mall. Avoid Rack Room Shoes. Worst store there. Prepare to be asked if you need help every 30 seconds if you go to Victoria's Secret. Pretty unpleasant experience overall. read more

It's an INDOOR mall. That gets it a couple of stars over the large "mall" at Viera. We come here often to just walk the mall in the comfort of air conditioning. Food court is worthwhile, you don't have to traipse all over the mall to find something for everyone in the family/group. read more

The Merritt Square Mall was a great place 25 years ago and still is today. However in this little town there is not much else to do except Wallmart. Yesterday I decided to sit on a bench and observe the shoppers and locals. My husband and I save this annual visit to the Mall for Christmas. Yesterday, I decided to leave him home and find a bench and observe for myself. As it turns out, sitting alone on a bench, was a lot fun. I watched a two adults use the central attraction, the "Mall Jump". This is a bungee jump (up and down) with a trampoline base. Both men were 50 plus. Wonderful to watch them jump up and down and roll over again and again up in the air! The Merritt Square Mall is clean, the bathrooms are clean, the air conditioning works great and the sales people are friendly. A few empty store fronts but then this is perhaps the way of so much on line shopping. I miss the days when it was a happening place with popular events! It does have movies and a food court though and it's nice to know it's still there. read more

Yikes! This mall was empty! But, it was clean and I always appreciate any chance I have to shop. There is a drop off childcare place here and a movie theater. I read a sign on the child care place that they charge $10 if you show them your movie stub so you can drop the kids off and catch a movie... THAT IS AWESOME! We will definitely have to give that a try some time. read more

This looks and feels like a "locals" mall. We visited this mall prior to sailing out on a cruise. They have a Macy's, JC Penny, Sears, Sunglasses Hut. The food court is good and it does have my favorite fast food joint, Chick Fil A. read more

What can you honestly say about a mall. It does look a little run down in certain areas versus others but at the same time it's huge. I mean I've been much larger malls but this one's average for Melbourne. You can't really judge it other than the cleanliness and the food court because otherwise it's just each company is its own entity.
