Scallops are incredibly delicious. I'd get this again.
Edward A.

I would say enjoyable Filipino cuisine here, so you can't really go wrong. Expect a reasonable wait time during busy hours. Try the scallops or the pork belly.

Grace A.

We had lunch in the Greenbelt location which was a good size place. Staff were friendly and quick in getting our orders. Loved the Binagoongang pork belly and the 2 kinds of laing. We enjoyed the baby squid and the huge fried fish (forgot what kind it was). We also tried the tuna lumpia which my friends find flavorful. May try this place again.

Yummy!

We tried all kinds of food here. Traditional and traditional with a twist. We enjoyed all the yummy food! Service was good and ambience was good. It was also a shelter from the heat.

Mesa braised beef

I read on a foodie blog that Mesa Filipino Moderne was a place to try in Manila. It was highly recommended, so naturally it was the first restaurant that my mom and I ate on our trip to the Philippines. Mesa was located at one of the wings in Greenbelt 5. The entrance to the restaurant was outside, so Mesa wasn't accessible inside the mall. I definitely liked the decor and interior design. It stayed true to the Filipino "kultura" with a modern twist. Similarly, the food was Filipino fusion as favorite dishes were reimagined. My mom and I ordered the pomelo salad, sisig in a pouch, and Mesa braised beef to share between the two of us. I liked everything except the sisig in the pouch, which grosses me out even more now that I'm writing about it. My mom hated the pomelo salad, but I thought it was quite good. Admittedly the salad threw me off at first. I thought it was going to have lettuce or some type of leafy green... salad in the traditional sense. But nope, it was straight up pomelo chunks. The pomelo was too sour for my mom, but I thought that the ground coconuts and whatever other seasonings Mesa used in the salad actually cut the sour/bitterness of the pomelo. The Mesa braised beef was excellent! The beef was super tender and extremely flavorful from the sauce it simmered in. I could definitely taste strong coconut flavor, and I believe there was a slight hint of shrimp paste sauce. The braised beef paired very well with garlic rice. The sisig in a pouch was a sisig fried dumpling. I noticed that some of the chopped sisig pieces had cartilage still stuck to the meat. Secondly, I caught a piece of sisig in my mouth that was pork skin still with hair. I was so repulsed by the bristly feeling of the pork skin hair against my tongue. I've decided that I won't eat pork anymore after today thanks to this experience. Lastly, customer service was so bad! There were like 10 employees bussing tables on the floor yet none of them stopped to help us or see how we were doing. We had to go out of our way to flag someone for assistance.

Very good meal. I picked this place after looking at local Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. I am in Manila alone for business and wanted to try some local food. I started with the baked mussels with cheese and had the Bistek Ostrich with garlic rice for my main meal. The mussels were amazing! Never had them like that and they came with a spicy vinegar dipping sauce. A healthy portion of rice and an ok amount of Ostrich. I just had water to drink but there was a fun drink menu with some interesting options. I sat inside, but there is an outside seating area and a nice well stocked bar out there too. Only 4 stars because they never came back to fill up my empty water glass and it took a while to flag someone down for the bill despite it not being that busy. Good food, I'd go back, but be patience.

Crispy Pata -- so tender and tasty

We ate at Manam two days in a row, and wanted to try other restaurants in Greenbelt. I saw Edna G's review of this place, so we decided to try this place. It was a warm and (a little too) humid afternoon for me, so we waited for a few minutes to get a table indoors. We ordered a bunch of dishes. Might have been one too many as there were only two of us! We ordered the Tinapa Eggrolls, Mango Salad, Crispy Pata, Grilled Bangus Belly on Banana Leaves and Garlic Rice. The eggrolls were interesting. I like Tinapa but I don't know if I like it in an eggroll. Better to stick with pork and shrimp, or vegetables for eggroll fillings. The Salad was great. It was a small portion but nice and bright flavors. The Bangus Belly was good and so was the garlic rice. The star was definitely the Crispy Pata! It was so good. Really crispy skin, tender meat and very garlicky! Loved it. Of course we didn't get to eat much of it since we had all that other food. The moral of this story is to just order the Crispy Pata and Garlic Rice if there's only 2 of you. We couldn't really take the leftovers with us as we were flying the next day to a different island. We had no room for dessert, so we didn't get to try any of their desserts. Next time. Food timing and service were both good. Even though it was 3 pm, it was still quite busy. But then we ate there a few days before Christmas. Busy season for sure!!

Sinigang na Salmon Head

Eats: Sinigang na Salmon Head, Inihaw sampler, crispchon, and liempo Takes: Of all the Filipino restaurants in the Philippines, Mesa was one of the most memorable ones for me mainly because of their lechon done 2 ways. One of the ways was in a wrap similar to a mini burrito. Inside this green pandan wrap is the lechon (pork), cilantro, and jimica paired with your choice of dipping sauce. The second way is your traditional chopped lechon. I literally would go here just to have their Crispchon served in a wrap. Service: Attentive. If you need anything, someone is always there within the vicinity. Wait Time: If possible, go during "off hours" or make a reservation beforehand to minimize your wait. If you go during peak hours, your wait time can be at least 45 mins/over an hour. Note: Even with a reservation, expect to still wait. During my most recent visit, we even opted to eat outside; otherwise, our wait time would've been an additional 30 mins for indoor seating. Mesa is popping for a reason! They have locations throughout the Philippines. Parking: shared parking garage Bottom line: Go here for your Filipino fusion fix! Highly recommended.

Fried leche flan

My relatives took us while my husband and I were on a business trip. The ended up reserving one of the large party rooms in the back for almost 20 of us. We didn't know what to expect but had heard they had really good Filipino food at this restaurant. Our private room was very spacious and luckily right next to the restrooms! My cousins ordered for our party and food just started coming out. I didn't know what the names of the entrees are but we got seafood, BBQ platter, lechon, chicken, duck 2 ways with different sauces, and fried leche flan (looked like mini lumpa). We ordered the bottle Filipino beers (Red Horse) which is a bit more stronger and hoppier than the San Mig or San Mig lite. My husband and I tried anything and everything. We had so much food!!! We also had leftover food to take home. The service as always in PI is awesome and very respectful. I don't know if they take reservations but I do recommend it since there is a lot of people who dine here. There are indoor and outdoor tables available and located in a busy mall.

Frozen Mango Daiquiri

There are three reasons why I love visiting the Philippines, the People, its Pulchritude, and Pata, Crispy that is. Ah yes, the infamous deep-fried leg. So hard to find a good one. I searched high and low. So many legs to choose from. My hopes were almost gone, until I saw a sign. Yes, I actually saw a sign, saying "rated Best Filipino food". Grasping at straws at this point, I allowed myself to be gullible and believe, could this be true. Might as well see if they have the best Lechon as well. I have to say, after eating CRISPY PATA at over a dozen different restaurants spanning over four different islands, Mesa serves the best by far, imho. Photo is up. Might I add one key point, it was boneless...So good. Even the accompanying sauce was da bomb. Once I experienced Mesa, I had to come back. So I did, on three different occasions. To name a few of the dishes I've tried were the Lechon, Prawns Wrapped in Egg Noodles, Scallops appetizer, Asparagus tips, Pork Sisig in a Pouch appetizer, were all equally as great in their plating, presentation and taste. Mustn't forget the unique cocktails...fun and flavorful. The Staff, what can I say, can I take them home? All were professional, accommodating, attentive, most importantly always had a smile on their faces...each and every one of them. Mesa restaurant is located at an entrance at one of the outside corners of Greenbelt 5, across from CBTL. Greenbelt mall is a large gorgeous indoor/outdoor mall, that includes 5 different buildings. Looks like the sign spoke the truth...for me anyway. I look forward to returning.

Edna G.

If in the Greenbelt area, you have to try Mesa. It's in Greenbelt where all the other restaurants are outside the Greenbelt mall. This place is always crowded and I understand why. They are open late during the weekdays and weekends. They offer indoor and outdoor seatings, also made for large groups. They do offer filtered water service in slanted glasses. We ordered: Buko shake - a must and was only place that had it this as a shake. All other places never have it or run out. We asked if we could have this to-go and they said they had no container for it...Boo! Lychee shake - a must Palabok - thin noodles - very good portion and very good Boneless crispy pata - lots of fried garlic ...a must buy it was not boneless? Fried tilapia -cut up in small pieces and deep fried, comes with four sauces - a must Liang two ways - very good portion and very good Bangus with black bean chili sauce - very good but not spicy BBQ pork sticks - was good but way too small. Picture looked bigger. Beware as it gets warm and humid in Manila so if sitting outdoors and at night, mosquitos will be there looking for those foreigner legs...hahaha. Customer service was awesome and always checked if we needed anything except at the end but I will be back...

This place is inside greenbelt mall. Its huge & lots of tables & chairs. You can pick if you wanna seat outside or inside. I pick this place since food in their menu looks good. Me & my bf sat down & start ordering food. We got the melon salad with some coconut crispy, manggo salad, crispy pata, prawn with salted egg & pinakbet. For drinks we got the manggo juice. Hands down with their food! Its really yummy! Its authentic filipino food! My only complain with this place is the flies! Yes, theirs a lot of flies when we went. Not sure if its because of the weather or the season but its kinda disgusting eating with lots of flies flying around your food & you can't focus on eating coz your just focusing on the flies that might touch your food. If theirs way to get rid of this problem hope the management will make some move. For sure when I visit my country again, the Philippines, would love to give this restaurant another try!! :)

Inihaw Sampler. Lots of grilled action going on here.
Ruel G.

My wife's uncle and family took us here on our first night in town and we really enjoyed it. Of course, traffic from the airport here was horrible, but that was to be expected. Thankfully, the gridlock was worth it since Mesa was a wonderful restaurant offering modern interpretations of Filipino classics. It was fun eating the sisig in a pouch and we also enjoyed the baked scallops with garlic butter, squid, and the inihaw sampler, which included all of the grilled favorites: chicken, squid, liempo, bangus belly, mussels, shrimp, and pork. Garlic rice accompanied our feast, as did various fruit drinks (the mango was refreshing). Service was solid and even though we sat outside on a typically hot evening, there were fans helping keep things manageable. Our party was nice and full after dinner and traffic going back to our hotel wasn't bad at all. Definitely a must-try for those seeking a new twist on popular dishes.

It was really hard to say what my favorite dish was because everything was so delicious and incomparable. What we ordered: -Garlic, chili shrimp: Oh my gosh. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!! It was flavored, seasoned just right. It had a sweet little taste to the flavoring and my assumption is that it was due to the butter in the PI. I would HIGHLY recommend getting this! -Tenigue sinigang: I've never had fresh tenegue until visiting the Philippines. Tenigue is delicious - it has a similar taste and texture to tuna. Add Tenigue in sinigang and wow - how delicious!! The thick, flakey texture adds so much depth to the sinigang. -Bulalo: I didn't try this but my brother ate the whole bowl and didn't really share with the rest of the group. *eye rolls* anyway, he must have enjoyed it a lot since he didn't share. The only thing he mentioned was the fact that it didn't have enough of "fat" -Fried Tenigue: Another variation of Tenigue. So good!! I dipped it in Patis and Calamansi. -Fried tilapia: I mean, it's basically fresh, fried tilapia and what else can you ask for? But if you're just gonna order fried seafood, I'd pair it with their veggies or their pinakbet. -Pinakbet: We got our pinakbet without any shrimp since my mom has a shrimp allergy. Without the shrimp, it was amazing!! I loved the mix of veggies. The veggies were cooked really well too - it wasn't too soggy which could happen really easily. I can only assume that the pinakbet bet with shrimp probably taste better. Other tips/hints: -Free, fast WiFi. It was great for travelers like me! -Parking. Easy to find and there was a small fee.

There's no restroom inside but Atrium's is just right across. Clam Chowder: This was a good way to start our meal! Soup was thick, having a creamy texture that was filling enough along with some clam. Seafood Specialties: Main course of today's meal was mussels and shrimp. Before anything, I gotta mention how fun it was to eat everything with plastic gloves on. I've tried this with wings elsewhere and now seafood at Bag O' Shrimps; just pure fun! I still dare to put aside using a spoon to eat the rice drenched in their amazing sauces. Shrimps were fresh plus easy and fun to peel before dipping back into its amazing sauce before eating. We added corn to everything and even that was fun to eat. It's a bit messy on the mouth though. Mussels were impressively large and probably the largest I've seen so far. You can easily tell from the shells already and when you see the actual mussels, amazing! The sauce was just as tasty as the shrimps' but with a bit more spice. Service: Standard good service! Good luck eating the rice with your hands. I'd also love to hear everyone's thoughts! Did scooping a handful and pushing it up with your thumb still work with the gloves on.

This kind of experience is what the Original Dampa market offers for those who want to enjoy good food without hurting their pockets too much. The original dampa market is a compound with different stalls/restaurants offering basically the same kind of food for customers. It's a place where you can make "paluto" whatever you just bought at the conjoining wet market. You have an option to buy from the wet market whatever you wish to eat (which can get your a lower cost) or ask the staff from the restaurant to buy (but of course this will have a slight markup on the cost). I suggest you go for option A at least once just for the experience of getting to haggle with the vendors to give you a lower price. One place I have tried is called Jagz, which is the 3rd restaurant to your right as soon as you enter the compound. We bought from the wet market ourselves the following: Pork Liempo, Shrimps and Mussels and had it cooked right away in the restaurant. While waiting for the food to be cooked, cracker nuts were offered to us as appetizers. We opted for the Pork Liempo to be grilled, our shrimp to be tossed in garlic and butter (my ultimate fave!) and the mussels baked in garlic, butter and cheese. The buttered shrimp was super good, especially if you got big shrimps from the market. It had just the right amount of flavour! I got to eat about half of this! Hahaha. The baked mussels were also good as a generous amount of cheese was placed on top! Having baked mussels in the Metro can be a challenge since not a lot of restos offer these. The grilled pork liempo was perfectly grilled as well! I definitely enjoyed my trip here! For drinks, they have sodas in can, juice in can and bottle and for the big families, they also have 1.5 L bottle of sodas. The place is airconditioned with 2 tv sets, both with cable so you can also watch while eating. Beer is also available and you can also bring in your own hard drinks, although you need to pay a corkage fee. If you want to belt out a couple of songs, a karaoke machine is also available. Parking is also available just in front of the restaurant though during weekends, this might be a problem. Budget is around Php 1,000 - Php 1,500 for 2 (depends on the quantity of the food you will buy in the market) as this will also be the basis on the charge of their "paluto".
