I HIGHLY recommend Mesa smog. My car failed a smog test the first time. I rarely drive the car. I took my GTI to Beach House Auto Repair. Ty reset the computer and told me to take it to Mesa Smog. I took it to Mesa Smog at Ty's suggestion. As I rolled in, the check engine light came on. The team leader at Mesa Smog said that the car was going to fail the test again. He gave me detailed instructions on what to do in terms of driving to get the car to reset itself. I followed the directions and took it back to Mesa Smog and the car passed. I've been bringing my cars here for smog checks for 20 years, and came along with my mother for her cars for years before that. We've had to take advantage of their "pass or free retest" policy a couple of times for our classic cars... which was a great help. We always get in and out quick, are treated kindly and fairly, and the cost is generally lower than other shops in the area. Is that time of the year again where I need to get a smog check on my registered vehicle. It was one place. I've always gone to that has superior service and a familiar face, but it's a bit expensive. Last week I was going through some mailers and found a coupon for Mesa smog. I decided to give them a try. Mesa Smog is situated right across from the DMV next to McDonald's. They have three drive up stations, so I imagine there's little to no wait for a smog check even on a busy day. The gentleman who took my car was quick and efficient. He got my paperwork & had me sign for the estimate. My car is a 2013 and it passed with flying colors. The gentleman cashing me out was very nice as well explaining how the smog check was already transmitted to the DMV and I just needed to pay the registration. Easy peasy. In and out in 15-20 mins. When my car failed the guy really went in depth to help inform me of my car warranty's I may be entitled to and what to do to pass the smog check when I returned after having my car serviced. This is by far the worst smog experience I have had in my entire life. My 93 bronco passed the tailpipe test with flying colors, but they failed me on the visual inspection because I replaced my distributor cap, and have aftermarket exhaust headers. I returned the next day with the CARB number for the headers, and showed him the following message from the manufacturer's website regarding the distributor cap: "This part is legal for sale or use on Emissions Controlled Vehicles because it does not affect vehicle emissions and is not covered by emissions regulations." The manager doesn't speak English very well, and interpreted the above as meaning that the cap fails emissions. I tried to explain that's not what it means but he kept talking over me. He became very irate. After two calls to the manufacturer, who ensured him that a distributor cap in no way affects emissions and is not part of CA emissions testing, and them sending him written confirmation of this in an email, he stated that "he disagrees" with them and that he would still fail me. How does someone running a smog test place not know the laws on emissions testing? This man has no idea what he is doing, during the call to the manufacturer, he asked basic questions about how a car's ignition system works. Completely and utterly incompetent. After all of this, even though he already verified my headers had the appropriate CARB number, he said he was going to fail me for that too. I asked if he would pass me if I theoretically had all the appropriate documentation and numbers for everything (which I did), he said he wouldn't and told me to F off. This man is dumb and stubborn, truly a terrible combination. My experience here was just awful. NEVER GO TO MESA SMOG!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Came here to get a quick smog test. Told me my gas cap was wrong and that they would sell me one. I asked if buying a new cap would pass me and they kept avoiding the question. They continued the test and failed me for the gas cap. I asked to purchase it after the test and have them do a free retest. He told me that it was a waste of time for him to do that and he's no longer selling me the gas cap. He said he only sells them to customers that want it and that he was teaching me a lesson. Do not use this company ever. I went to get a smog and the gentleman told me to wait 10 minutes. 2 minutes goes by and he said your car didn't pass. I said you didn't even do anything or plug anything into my car. He started yelling at me and he was the rudest person on the planet . He said you need to pay up or I'm calling the cops on you. Always had my car smog checked here. Service is prompt and I know exactly what i'm paying upfront instead of the "hidden /convenience fees" that I got with other smog stations. They are right next to DMV which is good to know but since they can electronically send the test result directly it doesn't matter much. They are STAR certified which is a higher certification compared to just being a smog station. They have three smog analyzer compared to just 1-2 which every other smog station including costa mesa smog. This means they can handle more cars at a time which in the ends means you're not wasting half a day to get a simple thing done. Price is very reasonable. Heads up if you just changed batteries or had a dead battery you should drive your car at least 100 miles otherwise no smog station will test you. Oh I found it very funny that most of the negative reviews had very few to no friends and just 3-4 reviews plus no pictures. Wouldn't count them as real reviews. What makes me keep coming back to this place is the speed, price, and experience of getting a simple thing done like smog check. The guys here tell you straight up how much it is and courteous at the same time. I know exactly what I am getting every time I go here. read more

He flagged me in the computer for having "after market" catalytic converters in my Tacoma even though I passed the test. I've passed in California before, as well as in Oregon where the catalytic converters we're installed. Then he was quite rude when I asked simple questions about it. The parts are "approved" for a Celica apparently but not Tacoma. Again I've never had an issue in since they were installed. The dude's attitude was terrible and it seemed he had this "gotcha" mentality when I was trying to understand the issue; he kept simply repeating himself about the policy on re-tests and they I'd have to get new parts. He ran the serial number on my parts to make sure I complied! Again never an issuer before Sherlock Holmes here. read more

This place is horrible! These guys failed my truck and here is why I am upset about it: In my 2017 Chevy Silverado I have the Banks iDash monitoring gauges. These gauges allow you to monitor 100+ different things on your truck (or any car for that matter) all through the ODB port. I use it to monitor various important temperatures when towing. When I brought my truck in to be smogged I unplugged these gauges so the the tech could plug in for the test. I left the gauges mounted but they are non-functional unplugged. I also have in my truck the Banks Derringer installed under the hood, being a performance tool it has a CARB sticker. It is a %100 legal in the state of California. It is completely plug and play and is not a tune or re-flash of my truck. Once you unplug it from the fuel rail it is as if it was never there. When I first got onsite they immediately took my truck back and within 10mins (without ever talking to me) failed my truck. The guy tells me anything Banks is illegal (completely ridiculous!). I am told I need a CARB sticker for the gauges. Not knowing anything about anything how do you say that? These gauges just read from the ODB port. If this guy knew anything about what he was doing he would know the ECU is locked and unable to be re-flashed/tuned. I argued with the guy up and down about the gauges in my truck. I asked if they are illegal please show me the documentation behind this, he referred me to contacting the state of California. This place also marked in his service notes that I had tampered with the computer on my truck. This assumption is likely due to the Banks Derringer I had in my truck which plugs into the fuel rail NO WHERE NEAR MY ECU on my truck. I tell him I have a CARB sticker for the Derringer and he says it needs attached to be on the truck itself near the emissions. When I ask him where and how to affix it he then says he will have to refer me to a referee on how it should be affixed. I had to completely take everything out of my truck (though a %100 legal and having a CARB sticker) all because these guys are so ridiculous just to pass my re-test. I was telling multiple friends about this saga and they all said I should have went to Zee's in Costa Mesa. Next time you can bet where I will go! read more

This Place is Garbage! You would think that during a time of national crisis good customer service would still be a thing. I have never been yelled at for asking straight forward questions. But the guy I spoke with in person just got more and more aggravated when I asked questions about how to handle a battery issue . Not to mention down the road a smog only cost me half the price this place was charging and it turns out there was nothing wrong at all according to the place I went to today. Wow, I never thought there was actually an enjoyable smog check center anywhere; well here it is. I came in with no appointment and was met in the parking lot by a wonderfully helpful employee. He took my paperwork and keys right there and drove it on into the garage without me even stepping foot into the office. So quick! The garage looked very clean and up kept, the bathrooms were very clean, after using them my hands were a bit wet from washing them and an employee asked if there was paper towels in the restrooms with great concern! (there was, I was just in a hurry). It cost me $68 in total, but I have a large van which apparently requires more work and thus a higher price, otherwise I think normal sized cars are the usual competitive $40 price. Anyway, this place is the Rolls Royce of smog centers. If you want clean, effective service, and quick, come here. It should only be 15 minutes of your time. read more
