My son and his girlfriend took me to dinner here comparing it to Chipotle only better. we were greeted by a rather loud employee who informed us if we want shrimp we better tell him now or we will be waiting a while.He seemed rude and set the tone for the visit for me. We placed our order and my son and her girlfriend enjoyed their food. I can't recall what I ordered but I left with the impression that they can't compete with Chipotle and I am not a big fan of Chipotle either. This has become our go to spot when the answer for what we want for dinner is "I don't know." Well "I don't know" means we are going to a wonderful quick restaurant that's not really fast food but not a "sit down" restaurant either. Every time we don't know what to eat the staff always has amazing recommendations. Today was the steak tacos. And you can't forget the cleanliness. We ordered pick-up through their online ordering, which was such a breeze to do. We got the family meal - steak tacos and 2x churro chips for $61. This can feed a family of 4-5 people and the portions were plenty! We did have to add on onions, cilantro, and guac for extra cost. The restaurant looked clean and organized. It was busy when we picked up, but the staff were quick and friendly. They made sure we had plates, napkins, and eating utensils. When they packaged our order, they made sure that our food was sealed and organized in the family meal box. After our family ate, there were still leftovers (and we had thirds/fourths). I have been to the Gilbert location several times. I found this location by driving. The manager told me, this is a fairly new location. You can sit in the dining area or take it to-go. Mesquite specializes in grilled meats. They have Carne Asada, Pollo Asada, and Veggies. They also will mix the meats, if you like. There are taco options, bowls, burritos, and my favorite quesadillas. They open early in the morning and have breakfast options too! I ordered my regular Carne Asada quesadilla, with red and green sauce. You also have the option to add cilantro and onions I did. I took it to go and eat it in my car and it was fabulous. Mesquite does not skimp on meat or cheese. Every bite was full of meat and cheese filling. The tortilla was perfectly charred. If you're looking for something fresh and quick, this is a place to go to. If I'm ever back in the area again, I will most likely stop by. read more

I tried this place because it was what was close in proximity and I was short on time. I'm very happy I did!! This place, has indoor and outdoor seating, which was perfect for my kids. They play music which was nice and I liked it wasn't overly crowded. We ordered a carne asada taco family combo which was perfect! The carne asada had excellent flavor my kids even said how good it was. It came with tortillas, rice, beans, and we got to choose sides! We got cilantro, onions, pico, cheese, and sour cream. Tons of food, and perfect to go out onto the patio and make our own tacos. We've even ordered the combo to go and made tacos at home. I had high hopes based on the reviews, but was definitely disappointed. First impression, the group in front of us had a big order and the women working were not thrilled with preparing it. We could see they were busy, so no big deal, but a "we'll with you in a minute" acknowledgement would have been nice. Onto the food. Kids got cheese quesadillas, which were fine, although expensive for what you got. My kids don't have big appetites, but they both ate the whole thing and were still hungry. I had chicken tacos, the chicken did not have a delicious grilled flavor as other reviewers mention. It was not very flavorful at all and the texture was off putting. I skipped the rice and beans and went for the chips and salsa, the chips were like cardboard and the salsa had a little bit of a sour taste to it. This review is for the new north Phoenix location. They have bags of mesquite but oddly there was no smell of mesquite or that flavor in the food today. You go in line and order "Chipotle style" They top and bop your food as you stroll down the line. The food is ok (not the best but not the worst...better than Taco Bell) and I would have given three stars but I experienced a health code violation during my visit. I got my chicken bowl. I noticed right away that the chicken in my bowl was cold. After only a bite or two someone ask me how it was. I told them that the chicken was cold. She said, "Well I got your chicken from the bottom of the pan were it should be getting warm." THAT IS A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. Everyone who has ever set up a steam table KNOWS that you heat up the food first before placing in a steam table. The steam table just keeps the food warm and isn't meant to heat up the food.. If they are too lazy to prepare food according to code what else is going on there. read more

Tried out this new restaurant close to work. I tried one steak and one chicken taco. Both were good but the chicken had a great flavor. My buddy got the Big Quesadilla with steak and shared. It was plentiful and filled with cheese and steak. Both the green and red salsas were good. The red had some heat to it while the green was milder but with great flavor. The rice was good but not great. I'll definitely be back to try the burrito and protein bowl. read more

A much, much, much better version of Chipotle. Bigger portions, delicious protein choices (Barbacoa is excellent), fresher vegetables, tastier sauces. Not to mention good, attentive service. This is solely an update on the rice - it's hit or miss. The texture can be hard or soft, depending on which batch you get and at what time. Tried something new -- it was okay. The staff was great!! They were helpful and friendly. We tried several things -- Tacos -- steak and combo. They are good, but nothing extraordinary. Burrito -- This was huge!!! Great price for the size. A lot of beans and rice. Chicken quesadilla -- it was delicious!!! Best item -- tortilla meat and cheese... Cinnamon sugar chips -- horrible!! Tasted like the oil was old and burnt. Worst taste in the mouth. Came with "icing". I swear this is Betty Crocker (maybe Dunkin' Hines) icing just whipped to be fluffier. This was the most disappointing item by far!! Chips and salsa - we were charged but never got them, so I am not sure if good... They also have peppers, Serrano I believe, we're spicy! My comment is that they are served whole -- would be better if they were chopped and could be added throughout instead of a whole pepper in 1 bite. SO GOOD! If you're the kind of person who used to love Chipotle and feel like it went downhill but you can't quite put your finger on why... You will LOVE this place. We met up with friends after stopping by the grand opening of the nearby Bricks + Figs store. Four adults, six kids. We got the family meal, a chicken quesadilla, and a lemonade, and a horchata (yum!). We should have gotten two quesadillas, the kids gobbled them up so fast! I know quesadillas are a basic food but theirs are so delicious. 10/10 for the family meal. We all had happy tummies and about a meal of leftovers to go. Anne and Frank (everyone honestly), we're so helpful. I already know- this will be our new go to takeout place. I came in around 7:30 on a Saturday morning and was greeted with the sight and scent of several hunks of steak being grilled up. The dining area was a very clean, "corporately boring in design" space, with lots of room between tables. I was very impressed with watching the crew of 3 work so efficiently and I still felt very well taken care of -one person helping me, one grilling, and another doing other tasks. Immediately after being greeted, I instantly got the feeling of being transported to a Chipotle where everything is pretty similar right down to the tortilla press / warmer. The service was attentive, sincere, and everything was explained to me since I made it known I was a first-timer. After I saw the pricing, I wasn't sure what to think of the size of the breakfast burritos but I will say that they should be called brunch burritos due to the large size! (Again, think Chipotle size) Meat options are $5.99 while no meat is $4.99. Grilled onions and peppers, which I thought was a must have item on these, was an extra cost. Overall, 3 burritos, 2 with meat, 1 without, all with vegetables was a little over $20. A steal since we all probably won't need lunch. 3 of these burritos can easily feed 4 people. I have read a few reviews that mention that the food was bland, and under seasoned, but I feel this to be mostly untrue. What you have here is an operation run in a corporate style setting which aims to make their food palatable for everyone, not just a handful of people. All that being said, the saltiness level was near perfect and the char on the steak really shines trough. The burritos that I had made all were the same: meat, egg, potatoes, grilled vegetables, cheese, and the red sauce. The red sauce is wonderful and has a very nice spice level to it. If they sold this on it's own, I'd buy it! The steak burrito was definitely a 5/5 while the chorizo wasn't as good as I thought it could've been after having the steak but will still give it 3.5-4/5 stars. This was definitely more on the bland level, especially for a chorizo which is expected to have more spices and seasonings. Overall, everything was better than I expected, and I was surprised how good the steak was, meaning I'll have to come back for lunch or dinner to see how everything else is. The corn tortillas are twice the size of a typical street taco, abs they didn't skimp on ingredients or meat. I love that they offer corn (or flour) tortillas. I also love that they offer cilantro and onion (in addition to many other toppings). I prefer mine legit street style. Corn tortilla, cilantro, onions...the only way to go for me. I love Chipotle's chicken, but I wish they offered these things. I asked for hot sauce, and it was a good hot chili sauce. The atmosphere is a bit like Chipotle.
