Like many others, we saw this place on IG and wanted to try it. We drove out of our way, about 45min+ from our house. The place inside was cute. I was happy about the little purse hooks on the table (iykyk). The outside area, not so much. It's on the corner of a strip mall, there was some etched graffiti on the outside windows, which made you aware of the area you were in. (That's the reason for the 1 star deduction.) The place is very small! So yes, you WILL want to make a reservation. We went around 3:30 on a Friday and I would say 3/4 of the tables had reserved signs on them starting at 5pm on up. The receptionist was constantly back and forth looking at them and moving them around to make space for walk-ins. I would skip bringing your kids here. I didn't use the restroom so idk if that was nice or not. The food was fantastic! And the portions were big. The price matched the portions and quality in our opinion. It's hard to find quality food that's worth the cost lately. We enjoyed the chips and salsa. And hubby ordered a Mexican coke, and the server brought him a frosty glass for it. Everyone around us looked like they were enjoying their food. Our server was great. He chatted with us for a while when we told him about seeing the place on IG. He was grateful for the customers. But admitted, it's caused an influx of people and the 'regulars' have become annoyed. Which is understandable. Absolutely disappointing experience. I kept seeing this place all over social media with glowing reviews, so I went in with high expectations, but it didn't live up to the hype at all. To start, the receptionist was rude and came across as pretentious, as if this were a Michelin-star restaurant, when in reality they're serving items like chips and tacos. We initially tried to make a reservation but were turned away, so we agreed to be put on the waitlist. She told us it would be about 30 minutes, but we ended up waiting for an hour with no update. When we finally went back to ask, we were told there were no seats available--no explanation, no apology, nothing. The lack of basic customer service was frustrating. I'm honestly surprised by all the positive attention this place gets online. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in Arizona that actually deliver both good food and good service. This was my first time here, my parents and aunt had been here a couple times prior to this. My aunt had made reservations for 10 of us on Father's Day. Our waiter was extremely nice and a very polite young man. It seemed as if he was the only one for a little while then 2 other waitresses came which was so very needed. It was a full house, inside is pretty small so I guess it could fill up pretty quick. My husband and I ordered the flautas, my son carne asada fries. I have to say mine and my husband rice was cold, we didn't mention it, the poor young man was very busy. Flautas were bland, no flavor in the chicken. My son who will eat anything also said his carne asada fries were bland no flavor. I found the prices to be a little high, tacos were in the 20 dollar range, with no sides... and if memory serves correctly it was 3 tacos you receive. Maybe for the side of town they are priced this way... I'm from West Phoenix and frequent a lot of taco places and it's not as pricey. But I didn't try them so idk if they are worth the cost. I love seeing them busy. The house Margarita was potent and delicious. Would order again & recommend. Yummy yummy! I ordered the fajitas. My friends ordered the el pastor tacos & the pescado tacos, as well as the tortilla soup. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING disappointed. Everything was so jam packed full of flavor and happiness. I couldn't imagine a better meal to share with friends. It did get to be a bit noisy because of how small it is inside but otherwise, you adapt pretty well. Amazing neighborhood spot for upscale Mexican food. One of the rare instances where the Mexican food is actually great and it's not a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Pros 1. Friendly, personable and nice waitstaff 2. Very good food. We all loved the funded appetizer and housemate tortillas to go with were excellent. We also all really liked our entrees except our one friend said his entree (shrimp - see pic) was a little on the bland side. 3. Nice, clean, up-to-date decor Cons 1. Very expensive for a neighborhood, strip mall restaurant. It's a nice restaurant but nothing over the top and not in a super expensive area so the pricing doesn't seem to line up. 2. We decided to try Corazon de Agave because I had on my list for awhile and the reviews seemed great. In the end we had an okay experience but we were not overwhelmed and probably will not be back. Important point: Prices are very reasonable and probably low for Scottsdale. First let me start by saying potentially the main problem: the night we went (a Tuesday), the place was packed but the restaurant was dramatically understaffed. The servers were working very hard and trying their best (even with annoying customers) so I don't fault them. They also did warn us that food would be slow coming out (the food wasn't slow once we ordered). But in the end the lack of appropriate staffing did affect our experience. Management needs to hire more people, pay more, or somehow handle this issue. Seat less people or something. I don't know but it wasn't good. Starting with cocktails, my husband had a margarita. It was extremely watered down and basically tasted like water. It literally tasted like a watered down drink that someone had topped off with ice. Pretty disappointing. In sharp contrast, I had some type of hibiscus spritz cocktail. It was amazing and perfectly done. I would have had another but the server had no time to check on us. This was the best item I had on the menu. We asked for chips and salsa. Something I always look forward to. We eventually got them- not as an appetizer but with our meal. It was ok and the sauces were hot! Unfortunately we were still waiting for water by the time I was eating those chips and my mouth was on fire. Had to stop eating them. For dinner, I ordered the birria tacos. They were fine but light on the meat. Consomme was also fine but I have definitely had better. My husband had carne asada tacos. Mediocre and plain. Took a long time to get our bill and even longer wait for a to go box. I was ready to go by the time we could finally leave especially since I had been out of a drink for awhile. I did see several people eating a bone in pork or lamb dish that looked quite good. The enchiladas also looked good! Unfortunately I won't be back to try them. Really enjoyed Corazon de Agave. We ordered the molcajete and the enchiladas banderas. For drinks, I tried the cucumber jalapeño margarita and the pineapple margarita. The restaurant itself is really cute. We went on a Saturday evening and were seated right away, though it did get busier as the night went on. The service was great, and the staff gave helpful food and drink recommendations. The food was amazing. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The molcajete was much bigger than I expected and came with chicken, beef, shrimp, cactus, and grilled cheese. The shrimp, cactus, and cheese were my favorites, and the beans and sauce were so good. The enchiladas banderas were filled with chicken and came with three different sauces, all delicious. The red sauce was my favorite. I also really loved the refried beans. My favorite margarita was the cucumber jalapeño. It was so tasty. I definitely recommend checking out Corazon de Agave if you are looking for an elevated Mexican food experience with fresh flavors. We went for our first meal here because it was rated so high on Yelp. It was good. I think that the other server, that we did not have, was better. It seems that on Tuesdays they have a special on their tacos so the place was full of people ordering tacos. Our server's English was minimal and he mumbled, so we did not understand that. Most of everything were amazing ! The server was attentive and sweet. We went on a Monday, not too busy; steady flow of customers for 6 o'clock. They offer happy hour which is always a great bonus. My hubby was so excited to order the cochinita pibil but unfortunately they didn't have any that night. They recommended the tampiquena however the two enchiladas that accompany the dish were all chicken offerings. He asked if they can make them with pork instead and they accommodated. His dish was nicely planted and the steak was cooked med rare just like he ordered. My meal was the verde enchilada. Comes with three but I only ate one as I full from the chips and salsa. SADLY OVERRATED At the time of this review, the restaurant had a 4.7 rating, which set high expectations for our visit. Unfortunately, our experience last night did not come close to that. This was the first time I have ever had to ask for salt and pepper at a Mexican restaurant. We shared the molcajete, and it had almost no flavor. The food was very under seasoned and disappointing overall. The service also fell short, especially considering the restaurant was only about half full. We waited around ten minutes before even speaking with our server, another ten minutes to place our order and receive water, chips, and salsa, and about twenty minutes after ordering before our first margarita arrived. We walked in excited based on the strong rating, but the combination of slow service and bland food was a letdown. I ended up taking the leftovers home just to add seasoning and make my own quesadilla. On a positive note, the interior is very nice and well decorated, although there is a large painting on the west wall that looks like it may not be securely mounted. I hope this was just an off night, because the space and reputation suggest the experience should be much better. read more

After a long drive we were looking forward to a nice meal, after surfing yelp we decided on this place. We got there around six and the place looked pretty empty, We went up to the lady at the podium who asked us if we had reservations. Well no, no we did not. After some hyming and hawing we were seated at a table but we're warned that the table had been reserved and we might have to move. Ok... Food was not good at all, tortilla soup was the only good thing for me. Tacos de carne asada, dry as the desert surrounding us. Enchiladas de mole negro were not good, sauce was watery. Tiny cup of rice to go with that. We ordered the "chicharon a toda madre". What we got instead was the ribeye chicharrón . You would think that would be a win, but it was not. The ribeye was dry and again flavorless. It had a mild metallic flavor to it. The guacamole, missing salt and lime to anyone's taste. We told the waiter that he had given us a wrong order. He insisted we were wrong and what we were eating was Chicharron, pork belly. Maybe I'm going crazy, maybe it was the desert heat but that was not pork belly. We again brought it to his attention and he told us he was sorry that he misheard us. Damage done. Subpar food and subpar service. This was our second choice the night we went but another place ran out of food. So we were running late having an event later that night. There was a large group bit they were wrapping up. The server was very friendly and we let her know our time crunch. We decided to order the fajitas to share as we saw the pictures looked generous and wanted to get some chips and a couple extra tortillas. I also ordered a guava margarita and loved it. I think our meal came out in less than 10 minutes. Very nice! The veggies had good flavor and I liked the chicken but my husband felt the chicken was a bit under spiced. Corazon De Agave has great high end decor. It's one of the nicer Mexican restaurants I have been to in a while. We got the guacamole which was great as an app. It had enough to last for your entree food too. The margarita's were reasonably priced at $8 and were made well. We had the tacos for our entree. I got the Gobernador tacos and they were very tasty. I don't love corn tortillas but these were well made and the tortilla held together while eating. They had mole specials, but we opted for something more traditional on the menu. The servers were very attentive and polite. We will definitely be back to try some other food. read more
