After purchasing eye glasses from America's Best C&E over a year ago ... which was not a pleasant experience; I have had opportunity to return for general maintenance (lenses falling out of the frame, nose pads coming off and frames needing to be tightened) three times. This last visit was very impressionable. My frame of mind was I was going to have to wait for a prolonged period of time since I was not making a purchase. This particular location has not been one of my favorite places (high turn over/staff don't really know what to do or how to do it; slow responses to assisting customers; long waits and generally bad customer service). There were some but not many customers being helped and waiting to be helped. To my surprise, I was greeted by Pat and asked if she could help me as soon as I walked through the door. I told her I needed someone to help with my eyeglasses ... the left lens was falling out and the nose pads were missing. She immediately took my eye glasses and asked me to follow her. She began to work on the eyeglasses tightening screws, cleaning and replacing lenses and nose pads. I discovered during the repairs that she was and Assistant Manager. She returned my eye glasses to me in about 10-15 minutes looking as good as new. She was polite, professional and quite personable. I expressed my satisfaction and asked if they had a program that acknowledged exceptional employee customer service. I felt like this store is trying to turn things around and make it a better place in which to do business. Anyone can sell a pair of eye glasses but there is no money in maintenance. They did me a great job. I would encourage potential eye glass purchasers to give them a try. Make sure that you get a very good understanding about the pricing of the least expensive glasses in town.

My husband and I were both charged over $45 MORE than what our insurance Explanation of Benefits shows we should have owed for our co-insurance amounts. After reviewing the Explanation of Benefits from our insurance company, the numbers do not match what we were charged in office. We have repeatedly attempted to contact the Mesquite location to compare the billing and get clarification, but our calls have continuously been avoided and ignored. Patients trust businesses to bill honestly and ethically, especially when it comes to insurance claims and out-of-pocket costs. At this point, I believe other customers should carefully review their receipts and insurance EOBs to ensure they are not being overcharged as well. Because of the lack of transparency and refusal to address the issue, I am filing a formal complaint and pursuing this matter further with the appropriate agencies and my insurance provider.

I went in today for my annual diabetic eye exam. The wait was ridiculous, as always. When I finally got called back, the tech mentioned checking my glasses. I asked very clearly if this appointment was ONLY for my diabetic exam. She said yes. Then she proceeded to give me a full regular eye exam I never asked for. After that, they dilated my eyes and dumped me in a crowded holding area with seven other people, waiting again. Eventually I get put in another room, wait even longer, and a doctor finally comes in and rushes through the rest of the exam like he's on autopilot. I get to the front desk and the woman tells me I owe $114. For what? She says, "the exam and the diabetic exam." Then she tells me my insurance doesn't cover the regular exam. I remind her that I asked before anything even began whether this was ONLY the diabetic exam, and I was told yes. Suddenly it becomes, "Well, since you're a new patient, we always do a regular exam too." Funny how no one bothered to mention that BEFORE doing it. And instead of taking responsibility, she blames the scheduling department -- because of course they do. Passing the buck seems to be their only consistent skill. Then when I asked if my EyeMed insurance would cover anything, she said, "You'll have to ask them." Excuse me? I handed them BOTH of my insurance cards. Any competent office verifies insurance BEFORE sending someone to checkout with a surprise bill. My mom has been a patient there too, and every appointment with her was the same nonsense -- long waits, excuses, and employees who act like they're being inconvenienced by you existing. The only reason I even gave this place a chance is because the provider I actually WANTED to see was booked out for months. This place is a mess, the staff is dishonest or clueless (or both), and they clearly do not care about patients at all. RUN -- do not walk -- in the opposite direction of this place.

I know this goes against social media tendencies -- but enough about me. Jaisy grew up where she works. She is a product of Mesquite school systems. When my spouse set an appointment at an optomitrist associated with Target I was a bit skeptical. I was in for a huge surprise. The place is small. A waiting area is NOT their strong point. Now that I have the negative exposed, let's talk about the total experience. Obiaderi Osakwe aka Obi, is the office manager and the first contact upon arriving for your appointment. She is one smart cookie. She plans to attend medical school. She has worked for Dr. Kastner, O.D. for quite some time. This tells me that a human with a biology degree. working as a receptionist/office manager, seems out of line -- not if you're going to medical school --- a human with a well thought out plan. I can't help but admire her. *** My #4 daughter is a surgeon, I know what it takes *** Dr. Kastner is also a sharp, well designed human. I was impressed with her not being impatient with me for having teary eyes that make it difficult to pick the best lens. Let me tell you why I decided to write the review -- from what I've seen by her previous reviews, she really doesn't "need" mine. Here's why I am here writing this to you. I'm 75 years young. While I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer, I still have plenty of life left in me -- thankful for each day. It finally happened to me -- my cataracs where at a point where they needed surgery. After the deed was done, I had what felt like a piece of sand in my eye. The surgery folks probably thought I was trying to get something for free from them. They disavowed having anything to do with it and washed their hands of the whole affair. At my next exam appointment, Dr. Kastner took about 30 seconds to tell me I had a small sty (I hope I'm calling it the right thing, it was very small outgrowth that shouldn't be there). I'm not blaming anyone from the other company, though I'd never recommend them to anyone I liked. The bottom line is -- I received excellent care from Dr. Kastner and attention to detail from Ms. Osakwe. They make an excellent pair. I can't recommend this duo enough. PS You don't have to take your eye prescription next door to the Target shop.
