I started seeing Jay for massage last month after discovering that I've become crooked. Yep, crooked. Apparently my computer chair sucks rocks and has contributed to some lower back pain. I just started noticing from time to time that my posture was getting worse than usual, and I unconsciously started slumping to one side. Very attractive, no? Jay is the first massage therapist I've seen that really takes a whole body approach to your wellness - not just solving the problem of a tense neck or other problem area in one shot. To be fair, this is the first time I've considered getting massage on a regular basis, so it became important to me to find someone who was not only knowledgeable, but someone that I connected with, too. Many places I've visited in the past for massage focused on alleviating pain or just relaxation - which is okay, but I'm more interested in the bigger picture of overall well being. I'm no expert on massage techniques, but Jay's seems to be a fusion of reiki and traditional massage, with some Native American sensibilities in there as well. He's very in tune with your energies, and can provide guidance on whatever journey you may be on. I can't recommend him more highly! I'm making it a goal to stop in at least once a month and feel confident that I'll get my body back on the right track. A new chair would probably help, too. read more

I found Jay Kratz at the Yelperstitious event at Jet Hotel. I was suffering some rotator cuff pain that had taken me to the hospital, where I was placed on a 7 week waiting list for a Physical Therapy appointment. 10 minutes with Jay, and that was no longer an issue! I canceled the appt, and booked more with Jay. My second meeting was my first full session and I was very impressed with his office and his manner. I felt very relaxed and comfortable. I discovered this wonderful place on Yelp! The great reviews and star rating drew me to make an appointment and visit Jay. What an amazing experience. I'm old- I know it- so of course little pains here and there are normal but my back and neck have been giving me some extra trouble. Jay did a wonderful job with getting out all the crazy knots and really soothed my troubles. He also gave me some great exercises which he said would strengthen some muscles in my back and stretches which he said would prevent the pain i've been having to happen again. I first went to Jay, at the recommendation of my acupuncturist, about two months ago while I was experiencing debilitating lower back pain cause by bouldering. I've been to several different "message therapists" over the years but none that left an impression on me enough to continue seeing. Therefore, in the middle of my first session with Jay I instantly recognized he was at another level altogether. To label Jay as a message therapist I think is incorrect as he is so much more. He is a body/mind healer + physical therapist + emotional caregiver. I've been to see Jay about six times now and after each session I am aware of measurable physical and mental improvements. Jay is professional, intuitive, compassionate, centered, and knowledgeable. He is an excellent listener and observer and always is ready to show me exercises to aid in the improvement of my body's structure and well-being. And that lower back pain? Between Jay and the acupuncturist (see my 5-star review of Michael Allen at Accelerate Health) not only is the lower back pain gone, so are the regular sleeping issues (waking up at 3am from back pain) I experienced prior to my injury. I will never see anyone else other than Jay as long as he practices within driving distance! read more

After seeing Jay for the first time last summer, I knew I'd been spoiled and that there was no way I'd consider seeing anyone else. I'm a pretty active runner and climber that's acquired a few injuries over the years. After my first visit, my sciatica (that I've been struggling with for 4 years) improved dramatically. After my second visit, it disappeared. I've been seeing him monthly since. I've seen lots of massage therapists over the years, but I've never walked away feeling as though all of my needs were taken care of. Jay's been the exception to the rule. Where do I begin? I've been experiencing Jay's magic for 4 years now. With his help, I am able to dance physically and emotionally. I have 2 herniated disks that stopped me from living my life the way I wanted to, but because I see Jay bi-weekly, I hardly ever notice I have a back injury. The classes are amazing. Looks like nothing but it is really something. The instructors give great explanations as to how to do something and why we are doing it. I felt completely relaxed and energetic afterward. Jay really focuses on forming a connection with you and helping you maintain that good feeling after you've left. He ties in the physical work with your mental and spiritual state of being, taking a truly holistic approach to what most other masseuses leave at just a rub-down. I have been to spas all over the world and have never had a better massage. The experience from start to finish was more than I could ever have expected. I've been going to Jay regularly now for just about two years, and feel its time to update my review. I still think Jay's work outshines any therapist I've gone to, and I highly recommend his work, particularly to athletes, as he's helped me prevent a presumably serious shoulder injury, and has been an integral part of my recovery from ACL/meniscus surgery from earlier this year. In my opinion, these are Jay's biggest strengths and what sets him apart from many others: He not only treats you when you're on his table, but he educates you on the causes of your injury or pain, gives you "homework" to facilitate a quicker recovery and prevent a relapse. His knowledge scopes far beyond the minimum requirements of a CMT - he understands kinesiology and anatomy, and employs that knowledge to treat the root cause of your ailment (for example, debilitating shoulder pain that I blamed on competitive volleyball was truly a byproduct of poor posture). Jay is really into continuing education; he's always been in a class advancing his knowledge base the two years I've been seeing him, so his work is always evolving to treat his clients more effectively. Additionally, Jay now teaches at the Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado, so he is regarded as a leader in the industry, and is immersed in the most current practices. read more

I visited Jay last year for some issues in my hamstring and lower back. He's an attentive masseuse and is open to talking through areas of tension. But he opted to "adjust" my pelvis after noticing it was out of alignment (it was), though he is not a chiropractor. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with the repercussions ever since - my pelvis bones have been out of whack and I've spent a lot of money and time on physical therapy and doctors visits to recover from my appointment with Jay. A year later, it's still going on and affecting my quality of life. Yes, I could have said no, but he acted as though he knew what he was doing... Go to see him for massage, sure, but if you have bigger issues, avoid. read more

As a bodyworker myself, I am pretty picky about who I see. I have seen Jay twice now, and couldn't ask for more from a therapist. Jay uses a wide range of techniques to get to the root of whatever you want to work on. I began seeing Jay several months ago when I began experiencing pretty severe and constant lower back and leg pain made worse from sitting at a desk all day. I went to Jay on the recommendation of a friend and he has helped me so much! He really takes a whole-body approach to pain- not just working on the affected areas. As I have encountered, your technician is being blocked and overshadowed by others whom are wanting the space and mirrors and attention, leaving my sessions put in the corner of the space with scribbled notes .. paid $85. I really like Jay at Sacred Space. He has shown me there are two approaches to relieving aches and pains in your body. You can go to a massage place, get copious amounts of oil rubbed thoroughly on your body by a man you're mentally envisioning is a Swedish bombshell, get rubbed and dug into so hard you feel like the imagined Swede is digging for diamonds and feel better for a day or two. You can also go to Jay at Sacred Space Bodywork where he does some things like looking at you, shaking your various body parts, saying things that are totally incomprehensible such as your bones are too far apart here, and that's why you always roll your ankle. Or he may just say your such and such muscles (which I was never taught about in my Anatomy and Physiology class) are too weak or causing your something or other to click in your shoulders. He might say, as nice of abs as you have, you're abdominal muscles are pulling everything in, so we need to counter that with your such and such muscles in your back by strengthening them. Then he might rub you, and unfortunately, it's hard to imagine him as a Swedish bombshell because his voice is too deep. Then he gives you homework such as stretches for some muscles you didn't think could stretch. He might also give you exercises to strengthen the such and such muscles so your gluteus minimus doesn't hurt anymore. Regardless, he seems to really know what he's talking about, he takes a whole body aproach that some might consider new age but if it works, I don't care. Plus he and the staff I've run into have all been very considerate, polite and friendly. read more

My children were kind enough to purchase a massage for me from Jay. Little did i know how very special the experience would be with Jay. I came in thinking i would get my "massage" but when he asked me if there was anything bothering me i shared that i was having a bad time with TMJ. He proceeded to address it with meticulous and knowledgeable attention. I felt safe with his quiet confidence......he felt like a healer, so much more than what i had expected! I was struggling to recover from hip bursitis while training for a marathon when a friend told me about Jay and his work. I will admit that after my doctor, an ortho, a chiropractor and a sport therapy specialist that I would (and had) tried anything to find a way to heal. The best thing happened right from the beginning, Jay assessed what he saw, asked me what I felt and then explained what he expected would help... before anything happened. It was a nice change from being a "patient" that was going to have another test scheduled. All I would tell you as friendly advise is don't wait as long as I did to look for someone like Jay to help you get back to feeling like yourself. I have been receiving therapeutic massage for 20 years, and Jay is by far one of the most talented and knowledgeable massage therapists I've ever seen. I appreciate his holistic approach -- addressing both the mind and body -- as well as his willingness to teach stretches and exercises that will prolong the positive effects of his work.
