Dr. Babirack is very attentive. He is a good listener. He's been taking care of me for a while now. I really respect him.

I've seen Dr. Babirak for years and, although I had some off-putting experiences, such as him taking a 10 minute personal call from his jeweler during the middle of my appointment and not even bothering to leave the room, I stuck with him because he was working with me for my thyroid disease and weight gain. Recently he prescribed me a medication that required a Prior Authorization but my insurance denied it. Definitely not his fault but when I reached out asking for additional help trying to find an alternative I was made to feel like I was a). bothersome and b). crazy for being so persistent. After several conversations with my insurance company they told me I would be approved for the SAME medication that was under a different name and would not need a Prior Auth for it. When I reached out to Metabolic Leader I was rebuffed and in the rudest way. Dr. Babirak called me from his car and refused to call in the alternate medication, he argued with me and said that either me or my insurance company was lying about getting approved and when I asked if he could just try and put it through to my pharmacy he said NO very abruptly and hung up on me. Who treats someone like that? It was uncaring and he made me feel like I was crazy. Truly unprofessional and I can see from the other reviews here it is not just me. I spoke with my PCP shortly afterward, a very kind and compassionate man, and he offered to try and put the medication through and imagine this... it was approved! I was asked to leave the practice without warning. I was told I had been generally disrespectful to the staff without explanation or example. I received exemplary care to that point. I have no idea what happened. read more

Dr. Babriak and his staff have always been professional, easy to communicate with, and have provided me with positive results in controlling my cholesterol. The office environment is pleasing and neat. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes when I entered the facility. I highly recommend this team of specialists. read more

WOW! I have never been to an endocrinologist before but decided that I needed a little more help with my diabetes. This place is very professional and within two months really helped me gain more control over my blood sugar. When you walk in, there is a nicely appointed waiting area with a television that gives you cooking tips, activity tips and health tips. I have never seen more than 1 or 2 other people waiting. They are very good about scheduling and being on time. My first appointment was a bit of a whirlwind and I walked out with a pod embedded in my arm. I had to fill out an activity and food tracker and went back later in the week to have the glucose monitor read and match it with my written log. I was given feedback on what I could do, change, improve and what I was doing correctly. I felt very supported and confident that this is the place for me to partner in my health. They have an onsite lab as well. read more

I needed to see an endocrinologist, so I made an appointment with Metabolic Leader. I was stunned that they said I needed a referral even though my insurance clearly says I don't need one. Gave me the excuse that they don't want to step on anyone's toes. What a crock of crap! The office staff is nice to deal with, and the office is clean, neat, and run very very well. I was only seen for the "diagnosis" that my "referral" said, and was told they would not deal with any other issues. They labeled me and tried to get me to go on diet pills, even though you gain the weight back after you stop them. As long as your numbers fall anywhere, and I mean anywhere in the "normal" range they simply write you off, label you and send you back to your doctor. Metabolic Leader may be good for other issues such as for diabetics and other more severe issues, but if you're unable to lose weight and feel you may have a thyroid issue I would suggest looking for an endocrinologist that is more concerned about you, how you're feeling and your concerns, rather than only the referral/diagnosis from your doctor and your numbers. All thyroid groups will tell you that ranges are a loose guide at best, and that doctors are ignoring patients concerns. read more

Medical staff is knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the overall experience at Metabolic Leader is not. Every time I've been to the office the impression was I was bothering the office staff and they have better things to be doing. I was willing to overlook this as long as the overall care was good. Recently, I received communication that lab results were not normal. I was traveling out of the country and called to get the results. I was informed the results would only be shared if I physically came into the office. I've had thyroid issues for many years and have never had to go into the office for a dosage change unless my last visit was over a year prior or there were additional concerns that needed to be addressed. I explained I had recently moved about 3 hours away, was in the process of switching PCPs and was currently out of the country for 2 weeks. I explained I worked in the Scarborough area and in my previous appointment I was told we could manage some (not all) of my care remotely. After some discussion I was transferred to the office manager. She reiterated they would not share the results with me over the phone, only in person. After much discussion, I asked that the results be sent to my prior PCP (who was great in communicating the results and what the course of action should be). At this point, the office manager informed me that Metabolic Leader would make me inactive as a patient but if they could be of assistance in the future to contact them. This is most certainly not the quality of care that I am looking for. read more

Terrible experience. Made an appointment to meet with Dr. Babirak to obtain medical advice for a recent diagnosis of osteoporosis. When I arrived, I was told I would be meeting with someone else because he was out of the office. After the initial meeting and a lot of tests, they scheduled my second appointment with Dr. Babirak. When I arrived for this appointment, I was told he wasn't available so I had to see someone else. I said I would not meet with anyone other than Dr. B for my next appointment because he was the specialist I originally wanted to see and I wanted to hear his professional advice. At the next appointment, I did see Dr. Babirak and he talked about some of my options, suggested I read about one of the types of injections for osteoporosis care I hadn't really explored, and gave me a pamphlet to bring home. He gave me his recommendation and explained a little bit about the drug and why he thought it was a good option. He also spent time talking about medical compliance regulations and all the possibilities of being fined and why people aren't going into medicine anymore, which I thought was unnecessary for the few minutes I knew I had with him. I went home, read about the drug, researched a little more on my own, then sent a note to the doctor through my Metabolic Leader portal to ask him to clarify something about the drug he had asked me to consider. His response to me was similar to a text message like "u cn make an appt to c me". I replied that I didn't think it was necessary to make an appointment and just wanted him to clarify something for me. I was considering the drug but just wanted to clarify something. I needed him to say something like, "Yes, you are correct in your understanding; the drug does do x . y . z." or , "No, your understanding is not accurate", or even, "I'm not sure" would have been acceptable. Unfortunately for me, he responded with something unprofessional like, "make an appt". I have been a patient of many doctors in my life (56 years old) and have never experienced this.
