Our family has been part of Method Schools since 2018. So much has changed, mostly positive, some negative. Method excels in offering extracurriculars, sports, events, AP, honors and advanced courses. They have Dehesa Method Sports Academy which is tailored towards athletes in San Diego county and they recently started The Academy at Method which is a dual enrollment program designed to offer students an early start in advancing their education by taking college courses while in high school. Method has a lot of potential to be a Blue Ribbon school or even a California Distinguished School. It is a K-12 charter school registered in the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified with the California Department of Education. The school primarily offers virtual instruction. Overall my daughter has mixed feelings about her education at Method. As a parent, I appreciate the school's variety of course offerings. I went to a very good high school in OC and I wanted the same for my daughter. If you're considering Method for your child, Method has a yearbook, offers prom, has several yearly events for K-8 and the 9-12 events are mainly led by the high school ASB. As of this review, to my knowledge, Method offers National Honor Society, Hope Squad, Yearbook, and several others high school led clubs. There are some problems that I hope Method improves on. Firstly, lack of transparency. Since Method is primarily online, there should be no question for students or parents on who is leading the school. At an in-person school, most students and parents know who the principal or vice principal is. Most of our time at Method, we didn't know who the principal was. They sometimes call that person the Head of Schools, but you don't know if it's for K-12 or 9-12. Either way, it adds to confusion and distracts from learning. Unfortunately, Method is extremely biased and has double standards. I've experienced this many times, so it's not an isolated issue. Method's administration and teachers don't always respond to an email. Conflict is a part of life and not a fun part; however, when issues need to be addressed, communication is important. Method gets an F in this area. They do not know how to deal with conflict, whether it is with students or parents. Regarding the double standards, the teachers and staff send out emails stating that their meetings are 'mandatory', but it is not fairly applied to all students. Whenever we're told a meeting is mandatory, it's pretty harsh language, 'required' would be more appropriate but nonetheless we attend the meeting. Other students that don't attend are still allowed to participate in the event even if they didn't attend the 'mandatory' meeting which isn't fair. That means the meeting wasn't mandatory after all. My daughter took a college class her junior year but was not given a weighted grade for that class.College classes are more challenging than highschool classes. Regarding AP testing. As of this review, Method does not offer in-person proctoring for their offered AP tests. We are so glad they offer AP tests. It really benefits students so I strongly advocate for it. Unfortunately, Method doesn't really understand how the AP process works. We were told the school would pay the AP testing fee, and we were ecstatic. However, that excitement was short-lived as we realized Method was only supposed to provide us with the College Board AP code, if they would be administering the test. This created a lot of confusion. Since they don't administer the test we had to find a local school with a seat available, and pay $90+ out of pocket for the test, removing the AP code Method gave us. I wish Method had an honor roll system. My daughter worked very hard in high school and achieved 4.0 a couple of semesters and over 3.5 in several other semesters, but didn't receive acknowledgment. She also achieved high scores on the CAASPP test in Science, Math, and English but received no acknowledgment. I've noticed the staff seems intent on doing everything alone without incorporating parents or students. I'm sure they're overwhelmed by doing that. They often speak to parents as if we don't know or understand anything, and they treat us all like we're children. We have valuable contributions. It's frustrating not being heard. I wish I could add more, but this unabridged version is already quite long. I will say the staff and administration is nice and well meaning but they way they do things is extremely frustrating and sometimes backwards. Even the transcript request method is frustrating. They used to include the entire K-12 transcript, and it was like pulling teeth just requesting high school years for the transcript. It shouldn't be like this, especially when it should be expected that colleges only want to see 9-12 grades, not elementary or middle school grades. There's no perfect school. I'm just sharing some of what we've experienced. The flexibility is what kept us there for so long. read more

Method Schools have been an excellent choice for my high schoolers for summer school electives. The flexibility of the program allows students to learn at their own pace, which has been a major benefit for our family. The homeroom teachers and the entire teaching staff are fantastic. They communicate clearly, are very responsive, and genuinely want students to succeed. One thing to note is that finals do require students to turn on their webcams for proctoring, but the teachers are very understanding and accommodating throughout the process. Overall, I highly recommend Method Schools for families looking for a supportive, flexible, and student-centered learning experience. Update: Be sure your child takes screenshots of all grades and stays logged into the SmartFox app while using Edmentum as it tracks all activity. My son's midterm later showed as incomplete, even though he had proof and login records. The principal claimed his A grade was a glitch, but we confirmed with the course teacher it was accurate. Only the course and homeroom teachers were able to fix it. Document everything! It really matters. read more

My son Aiden struggled going to a regular high school while the pandemic hit. He fell behind, missed his friends and felt isolated. His friend started attending Method and told Aiden about it. We switched him to Method and he started feeling confident and comfortable with his teachers and classes. He even graduated a semester early. I am so proud of him and all the teachers that helped push him along. My son is an amazing person but is also a procrastinator....not lying. The single best component of Method schools is the one on one counseling that our 11th grade received. His counselor, Kim Nellum, went above and beyond our expectations in terms of helping to motivate and encourage our son during the height of Covid and his online school experience. She was always calm, steady and supportive even when he struggled with time management and deadline issues. She answered all of our technical questions and provided us with the best possible advice as to how we could support our student with his 504 accommodations and specific learning challenges. My daughter did excellent at Methods this past summer. She has a high desire to socailize in an in-person environment which make her grades suffer. Methods eliminates that distractions and provides solutions to provide quality education and its advance technology systems make it easy for students to follow along in class. Also, students can stay connected through multiple field trips that are held each semester. The friendly staff was a pleasure to work with and answered all of our classroom or assignment questions same day in most cases. Our son struggled with our local school when learning moved online. The teacher struggled as well. After trying hard to make it work we moved him to Method as a fifth grader. He was fortunate to have Mrs. Moody a true gem of a teacher. He looked forward to their one on one meetings. She made sure he stayed on track and felt motivated. My child has been in this school for years and we had nothing but a positive experience until recently. My child's student "success" manager reached out about a month ago informing me my child has not been completing work. I was a little confused since I had just received an email from the homeroom teacher saying the opposite. Apparently she didn't do her due diligence before contacting me. Fast forward now this woman is telling me after my child has been back on track that it's mandatory I have to have a meeting with her and is state law etc. (which it is not..I have contacted an attorney) She is an extremely misleading, condescending, disingenuous, unsuccessful success manager and frankly don't know how she even calls herself one. She has done absolutely nothing to help my child and has been more of a problem than a solution!! It's such a shame that I even have to write this review. My son used Methods for 8/9th grades. He loves their program and the pacing guides. He loved how easy it was to navigate the programs and get his work done. He also loved all the access to breakout rooms and the convenient nature of getting ahold of the teachers and his teacher of record. A big thing for me was access to one on one help that my son needed before Covid hit. Only reason we left was my son wanted to go back to school. Our child had to take two classes in order to comply with his graduation curriculum in CA after moving from another state. As a top student, with many leadership activities already on his plate this summer, (first) we are grateful this was a choice for classes needed. And Second, that reaching out to counselors was available. We cannot thank the valuable help, professionalism, advocacy!, knowledge, compassion and intentional listening from amazing counselors when we asked for help needed. Ms. Harvey is all the above. We used method school because it is accredited through the NCAA. My boys were able to complete the classes they needed at their own pace. The website was easy to comprehend and the teachers were there to guide in anything they needed to get them through their assignments. The content was right on point with most of the instruction given in class, but in an expeditious 4 weeks. I am repeatedly impressed with the teachers and definitely feel that there is much more one on one teaching compared to a traditional school. The sports program is amazing and I am grateful my kids get this type of experience in school. The culture of the sports program is excellent!! I am certain we wouldn't have this experience in a traditional setting. My son attended Method School accredited Independent study which is online education. As a high-level athlete who also struggled in school prior to attending Method; he was able to graduate this year and be accepted into a competitive program for a Kinesiology degree at Cal State. Without the structure and support from the staff and curriculum that allowed him to work at his own pace, receive guidance as needed and consistently throughout he would not have been able to turn the 1.0 GPA semesters prior to methods to 3.6 GPA semesters. I could not believe the amount of improvement in study skills, homework completion, quality of content, and commitment to his academics; he truly transformed. It helped build his confidence and a switch flipped internally where he cared about his academics for the first time. All the administrators and staff were wonderful but Mr. Steve Bentley who is the Director of College Counseling and Facilities Operations was his academic adviser throughout school, met with us weekly and as often as needed; he went above and beyond. He was a mentor, positive male role model, and had the perfect balance of patience, guidance, and accountability my son needed. My son would not have graduated High School and would not be starting college next week if it wasn't for Mr. Bentley. I cannot say enough positive things about this school and I highly recommend reaching out to one of their locations. We lived in San Diego and his home base was in Murrieta; he only had to go on campus once because they meet with Parents and Students virtually. My son was able to attend social events they coordinate, attended Prom, and received many more experiences; they even offered a Seniors trip to Disney. I was very impressed with their Graduation ceremony as well. For those that fear your child may miss out on something attending a virtual program I want to say given our firsthand experience this is an environment everyone can thrive. For athletes, the program works with the NCAA to meet the criterion to play in college. My son just completed Ms Maxwell's Music class and wanted to pass you a note how excellent her instruction and class execution. She did a great job! We have taken classes at BYU online, paid a good amount, and this class was so much better and free! Ms Maxwell was always available to assist with the course and exam schedule. Method schools was such an amazing program for both my high school students. One of my students graduated in 2020, and one recently graduated 2021. There was so much guidance with the curriculum, and administration was always on staff to assist. My son has done three full semesters with Method. The first two semesters were great, the last one was not a positive experience, and now the current semester is off to a rocky start. My son has great grades but the state has imposed so many new restrictions on the school they have succeeded in destroying it. It's so sad! This is an excellent school for any child/ young adult. My son has excelled a great deal in the last year. He is, as many are, ADHD yet the teachers, counselors and all I've encountered here have been nothing but a breath of fresh air. Everyone is so positive (even when I wasn't) about my son's success. My daughter had been struggling in a traditional school due to emotional and learning disabilities and being a bit of an eccentric. (she has had an IEP since 6th grade) She had "No Grade" by 7th grade due to these issues. I looked at several charter and private schools. I was told of waiting lists, exorbitant monthly tuition and Religious based curriculum (not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not for us). Then I came across M.E.T.H.O.D. Schools, Murrieta and am very glad I did. My husband and I took a tour of the school. We were shown the class rooms and open space the kids would work in. We were shown the laptops they use on sight and what the website and learning curriculum worked together. My husband and I are both impressed with the curriculum and the use of laptops for learning. (Our daughter is a visual learner as well as hands on learner.) There was no tuition fees or registration fees etc. The staff are welcoming and friendly from Ms. Pam to Ms. Jade and Ms. DeLuca and Ms. DeGrano. They are caring and fun but still have a no-nonsense kind of attitude. Each one has a fun side that they share with the students in activities and group projects. The staff at M.E.T.H.O.D. Schools, Murrieta, understand medical and schedule issues of families. My daughters place was held when she was hospitalized for a month. She just picked right up where she left off when she was discharged and the staff worked with her to help her continue. The programs available range from part-time campus use to full-time campus as well as iFlex which is a home based program. My daughter is in 9th grade and we opted for 3 days a week. For those that think this is not enough, there is more. On the days that my daughter is not on campus she uses an ipad (not furnished by the school) to log in to the website and doing her work at home or in the car to go somewhere or at her grandparents. This is one of the things I love about this school. I have a few family obligations and am not stuck 5 days a week running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I have four days (Sat.-Tue.) to go on outings with her (Disneyland or a museum etc.) as well as get household needs and upkeep completed and meet the needs of outside family obligations. Many people think that a charter school is for "losers", "Geeks" or kids that will "Just get their GED anyway". This is not the case at all. This school is for anyone who wants to learn and get a great k-12 education without worrying about the woes of a campus setting. The classes are smaller and there is always someone available if anyone has a question. My daughter now holds a "C average"! Trust that this is a great achievement for my girl. I highly recommend M.E.T.H.O.D. Schools if you have an "odd duck" or prefer your child not be in a traditional school environment for whatever reason. read more

He has been self directed learning how to advocate for himself and direct communication with his teacher to make decisions and deliver results for his education completion. I'm the learning coach and parent and happy with the staff's support and communication. Especially the teacher Mrs. Nellum, as she's very adamant of providing support in a timely manner. Also, willing to go above and beyond for her students, which she focuses on providing guidance to both the student and learning coach. Her urgency of providing quick feedback and solutions is greatly appreciated. It's crucial that both teachers and homeroom teachers provide support for their students. In my experience, I'm happy with the level of support and consist communication. Although, there's been some confusion in the past due to the integration of UC Scout, it's such a great benefit. I'm excited and thankful for witnessing and experiencing students are learning at the higher level of education. Coming from someone that also works full-time at UC, the overall experience has been wonderful. Method Schools continues to improve and works hard to provide significant learning opportunities and development. One significant benefit is that students are building their academic profile by taking UC Scout courses, which gives them the opportunity to use those transferable skills and credits for some degrees in UC campus programs. My daughter and son will be returning to Method school for 2021. My son has dyslexia and the Homeroom teacher was very supportive. I love that the students move at their own pace. There is accountability on making sure the required assignments get done. My daughter transferred on the middle of the school year went from failing her classes to passing. Again her Homeroom teacher was very supportive and tutored her when she needed the additional help. I love the weekly check-ins that keep the kids up to date with homework. read more

I tried to enroll my daughter in summer school on June 9th. I filled out all the forms, uploaded the required documents and waited. Received an email to sign the master agreement and tried to sign, but their site kept kicking me out. I emailed them...no response. Then a few weeks later I received an email that they needed a copy of my daughters 504 plan. I sent them a copy and heard nothing. I texted, emailed, called extensively and finally received a response that the Special Education department needed to evaluate. That was a week ago and no response. School was supposed to start today, July 1st and still nothing. Now they are completely ignoring me. Do not sign up with Methods School, they are completely unprofessional. read more

Method Schools have been an amazing experience for two of my daughters. One of my daughters struggled in High School, but when she transitioned to Method her grades went from below average to A and B's. She was able to retain the information learned, she loved having the conversations and interactions with her teachers 1:1 and in the class room setting online. I was skeptical at first putting my children into an online program. I grew up to the stigma of homeschool; the kids that attended home school programs had a lack of social skills... and that was not what I wanted for my children. However, I gave it a chance and my older daughter graduated from Method and loved the program. My youngest daughter transitioned to Method during COVID. Her public school program was not set up for the online education, and Method had a proven accredited educational program so it was a no brainer. She has done very well in the program getting A's, and retaining the information being taught. Method allows the students a more flexible schedule which is essential for my daughter who is in the entertainment industry and plays club soccer, both which can have demanding schedules. Also while attending Method she took up a love of reading, in 2022 she read over 100 books. When her teachers found out that she was an avid reader, they offered her the opportunity to do book reviews, which she enjoys doing. She also wrote a poetry book that is being published. At her 8th grade promotion she was chosen to be one of the class speakers, and was honored to have two of her poems chosen to be printed; one on the Middle School Promotion brochure and one the High School Graduation brochure. This made her feel so valuable and that Method Teachers and Leadership noticed her and her strengths. This year she is involved in ASB Leadership. I can not say enough good about Method and the Educational Program. I am so happy that we gave Method a chance. It has been the best decision we have made for our children's education. read more

We enrolled our daughter in 1st grade with Method in fall 2021 due to long periods of international traveling that we had to do. We were anxious before the school year began as we had no experience with homeschooling, or know of anyone close to us with it either. However all our anxiety was laid to rest when we had a wonderful coordinator answered all our questions professionally and welcomingly too. Our daughter had a great time in her class the entire year with her wonderful teacher Mrs Ashley Madrigal. Mrs M was very patient and accommodating to our traveling situation between Sept 2021- Feb 2022. We could not have done this without Mrs M's continuous support and partner to us in ensuring our daughter's continued success with her school work. She was very happy whenever she got the chance to interact with Mrs M in online group lessons and during personal 1 on 1 online sessions. She adores Mrs M as do other kids in the class too. The school provided all text books, and an abundance of supporting materials & teaching aids as well as the chromebook without any cost. The online educational materials setup by the school were excellent too. It helped us tremendously on that. We highly recommend this school if you are considering homeschooling your little ones. read more

Let's face it--summer school isn't something kids usually want to do. However, sometimes it is a necessity and that was the case for my daughter (11th grade). Method Schools were recommended to us as a great online option by my daughter's traditional school guidance counselor. We signed up for an online course and we're so glad we did. My daughter has found the flexibility of an online class much more to her liking than going to campus every day. But the real selling point of Method is the support you receive. The teacher, the guidance counselor, and even the administrative staff we have interacted with have been helpful, friendly, and have shown genuine concern for our unique situation. We have some special circumstances involved and Method has been great working with us to accommodate my daughter's needs. I highly recommend Method for a great summer school option. I would also give Method strong consideration as a full time school option (which may be necessary for us in the near future). I'm so glad to know Method is available to meet our needs. My daughter does rodeo and conventional school was proving to be very difficult to keep up since we had to miss several Friday's to travel to compete. I was completely against on line or homeschooling because I feel children also need the socialization and experiences of in person learning. Her Jr. year her public school was forced to go online due to Covid. We found it beneficial to do school while on the road. So, her Sr. year we chose Method Schools. She had an amazing teacher, Mr. Grizzle. He was so flexible with her and never made her feel bad when she had to ask to modify her schedule to accommodate her sport. Method is completely understanding of our athletes challenges and works so well with them to keep them on track and successful. Mr. Grizzle was always so kind, friendly, organized and there was no fluff. In other words, sometimes teachers add frivolous content just to fill the time. Mr. Grizzle was always straight and to the point making all content valuable. My daughter really appreciated that. Method did offer extra curricular activities but my daughter chose not to attend them. She has a good group of friends outside of school and did not find it necessary. Method cared about what the kids might need or want. We were sent surveys throughout her Sr. year asking if we wanted a "grad night", etc. Graduation was beautiful and well organized. I thoroughly enjoyed the speakers. They were inspirational and engaging. It was a bit weird that my daughter did not know anyone besides her 2 other friends that attended Method, unlike my 2 other kids that graduated previously from a traditional public school. Also strange that graduation day was the 1st time she had met Mr. Grizzle in person! These were some of the sacrifices of the Method experience but the good out weighed the bad for sure! I'd also like to acknowledge Jen Weirsma. She was a great communicator, always keeping us informed and sooo sooo friendly! She worked to make sure all of our needs were met and it was as fun as it could possibly be. Jen is a great asset to Method Schools and we all appreciated her! All in all, if you have a student athlete, I HIGHLY recommend Method Schools. read more

Method School also in Arcadia, CA where we are at, has been a complete game changer for our son and family. The Pasadena schools failed our son with over 30 kids, 1 teacher and no aides or help. He has ADHD and mild learning disabilities and became 2 years behind, and so we changed to a private school, this was a worse experience. A teacher who was mean and never helped our son with half the students in the public school and with an aide. Now with Method, with 8 students per teacher who are credentialed, qualified, caring, intuitive and exceptional has made our two years there beyond fantastic. Each child is tested and they learn at their own pace. They have project base learning, robotics, all of the STEM and more. My son entered at 4th grade at a 2nd-grade level, and with the teachers, patient help and customizable curriculum, he was able to catch up to the 5th-grade level by the end of our first school year there. Now, in fifth grade, he struggles with learning, but is on track even ahead. I cannot recommend a school higher! If your child does not fit the school you are at, whether gifted or with learning disabilities or just needs further help, this is the school for you!
