I have four children in total at this school! All my children are very happy to attend Sycamore. I love that it's a small school so more staff have eyes on them. Teachers are great and my children feel supported. They offer many different programs such as clubs, GATE programs, sports and after school support! What works at Sycamore is their teachers and administration. In my position, positive working relationships are essential in the continuity of a young person's education. The Vice Principal, Kelly Lefiell & the Principal, Stephanie Romo, have not taken court documents that I have brought in seriously for my Family Matter. I have gotten Child Protective Services involved as well as Law Enforcement; even 911 to have my child interviewed for abuse by his Father. Our family has been with Sycamore Academy for over 12 years now. My oldest went from 1st through 8th grade here, while my youngest began in 3rd and is now in 6th grade. One of the things I've always appreciated about this school is that even as it continues to grow, it still feels small and approachable. This type of environment makes it really easy for parents to be involved, which I truly believe plays such a HUGE role in your kid's school experience. When parents are present and engaged, you're not just supporting your kid, you're also staying in tune with what's really going on in the day to day. It helps you understand the school from the inside, NOT just from the outside looking in! The teachers, aides and staff here have always been awesome! They're supportive, empathetic and I truly feel they care about and are invested in these kids. The new principal has also done an amazing job. She was a teacher at the school for many years before being promoted to the principal role, so she really understands the values that make Sycamore special. She is a perfect mix of positivity, professionalism and a strong leadership. She is involved, approachable and always willing to help. We absolutely love this school. We moved our kids there during COVID (ONLY SCHOOL THAT STAYED OPEN IN PERSON!!!). Our girls love the friends they've made and adore their teacher. Academically they have improved leaps and bounds from where they were at in public school which is not just apparent in their grades but also shines through in their self-confidence and intellectual curiosity. Besides the teachers being great, the office staff are a cut above as well. The new principal Ms. R, must run a tight ship behind her friendly demeanor, and it shows. Our experience with Sycamore Academy has by far surpassed any expectations that we had set. Not only is the classroom setting amazing, but the way that the staff treats the students is just above and beyond. The staff make it a point to get to know students and treat them with SO MUCH kindness and respect, as a parent you really cannot ask for more. Academically, I have watched my sons progress significantly this year and his confidence has soared. His teacher has been amazing with keeping contact with us and he just adores her. He's made new friends, he's excited to go to school everyday, and has had so many opportunities that he wouldn't have had at a public school. We moved from Orange County about two years ago, and choosing the right school for our children was our top priority. Knowing that Lake Elsinore unfortunately has a reputation for struggling in education, we focused on researching public charter schools in the area. Our experience at Sycamore over the past two years has been exceptional. The small class sizes have been a huge asset, providing our kids with the personalized support they need. As a parent of two children with IEPs, I'm thrilled to see their progress. We're so happy with our decision to make Sycamore our school. This school was a very poor experience for our family, and we no longer attend here. My children were bullied, and we found the curriculum to be less than stellar in terms of meeting or exceeding their needs. The school itself is very small and offers little choice for students in terms of classes, clubs, sports, etc. We were also concerned about the state test scores and academic reputation of the school. I encourage all parents to review this before enrolling. I had a student there with an IEP, and found that the IEP teachers couldn't speak to my child's progress at the IEP meeting. Lastly, I found the administration to not be very present. If I entrust my children with you for school, I expect to see administrators at drop off, pick up, and for them to be accommodating to parents in terms of communication and authenticity. I found none of this at Sycamore. Parents beware. read more

As a past student who had attended this school for about 8 consecutive years, I feel I have the qualification to say that this school may just be one of the worst schools possible to send your child to. To start off I would like to confirm, more than half of the 4-5 star reviews come from staff members who are REQUIRED to leave a good review. I will be going and pointing out one by one each staff member and tell you the things they have done that truly unsettle me . This school is described as a welcoming space but not at all, first we have Karen, she is the main lunch lady who refuses to give your child food if she "suspects " they have a normal lunch, I'm sorry but the last time I checked her "suspecting " things was NOT in her job description, she will belittle your child and better yet yell at the children for forgetting a fork or a fruit , including the TK grade! Don't even get me STARTED on Kelly laffel or whatever her name is, she has not only attacked me and my friend multiple and I MEAN MULTIPLE times to the point where i feel sacred to go to school, she would constantly target me and my friend for our clothing but when somebody else wants to wear clothing 10x more inappropriate then ours, they let it slide. Kelly laffel will put on some big act with her obnoxiously squeaky voice with the parent and then her back and then practically bully your child. Although it may not be in their dress code I find it highly contradicting that she would yell and dress code girls and boys for wearing sandals or Birkenstocks while she WAS WEARING THEM. If you don't like certain topics being pushed on your child, I don't recommend letting their teacher be Rachel Baglien. She would constantly bring up LGBTQ+ topics and normalize them in a classroom setting. She also had SEVERAL tendencies of straight up bullying and humiliating your child just because she is a insecure women who clearly didn't get enough love growing up. The few teachers who actually deserve to be recognized and appreciates are completely underpaid and overlooked and treated with complete disregard. The principal would always pull my sweet teacher aside and verbally degrade and punish my teacher. The curriculum the students are given are well below what they should be capable of doing. The P.E teacher Katie Olson would physically yell in students faces , no joke in their face. She would scream at them for not knowing some stupid P.E game they put zero though into, it makes sense though, she used to be one the military or something. One time, she did that to me and no joke I could smell what she had for breakfast and I could feel her spit droplets rocketing onto my face.... So all in all you would be better off sending you child to a nursing home full of elders either amnesia to get a education and actually be a happy child. read more

POOR Leadership and poor transparency. Fails to work with parents and creates an advisaral approach to conflict when they should be working with parents. Principal thinks it's her way or highway. She claims to fight for parent choice but refuses to sit down with parents and have a constructive conversation or address real grievances. There are some good staff but many have left due to poor leadership. Enrollment numbers have dropped mid year due to many problems that are handled poorly. Spoke to many parents that left and felt they were unheard by leadership. Sad because this school used to be better. Stephanie: NOT Misinformation, Here is the response from Principal. She refused to meet with me today. She said I could wait in the lobby all day and she wouldn't meet with me. This is not how School Administrators should be behaving. I am okay with discipline. I am not okay with SELECTIVE discipline. I am not okay when there is a way to facilitate seeing video evidence (as other schools do) without violating the law but the Principal will not make the effort to by blurring out the minors. I am not okay with schools not being held accountable for their legal requirements. THE EDUCATION CODE requires this information as handed out by your staff that said just sign it. This issue was either not important enough for the Principal to make time to meet with us today OR the Principal wants to power trip and control when she is willing to meet with parents. Either way, that is POOR LEADERSHIP, and it's not doing what's best for the child. The drop in enrollment numbers speak volumes. Until there is a change in leadership, parents beware. We are NOT the only family to have problems. See all the 1 star reviews over the years about Barbara Hale. Everyone of those critiques is accurate. I have never met the lady in the past 2 yrs at the school. She is selectively present. I have never seen her at award ceremonies or special events. But she sets the culture and refuses to accept responsibility for the school failures. A GOOD leader is willing to re-exam issues and accept criticism. Great experience so far! When we switched my son to this school, we switched midyear. On his second day, the staff throughout the campus were greeting him by name and making sure he felt welcome. He just completed his second year here. His teachers have been wonderful! I get lots of feedback on his graded work and via Google Docs. It's great to know where his strengths and weaknesses are so I can be involved in his education. They also update us regularly via Remind to let us know what's goin on in class and share pictures of experiments and such. Great school! read more

As a former teacher at Sycamore Academy, I can attest to these reviews. Teachers are horribly underpaid and overworked with zero appreciation for the amount of time given or personal funds donated to make classes fun. Any teacher at this school LOVES children and education, but are misguided when hired on that they will have the freedom to teach, and are beaten down when attempting to make it better. The curriculum is poor quality, which explains the horrible test scores. When teachers spend their own funds to use better options, they are reprimanded and villainized. Report cards are misleading as grades are inflated by the system despite the many requests to change by the teaching staff. There are 23 teachers at this school, over 30 have left or dismissed over the last four years, and 4 administrators. No union can fix this school. Personally, I poured my heart and soul into this school for four years; my exit was heartbreaking but necessary. I feel for those interns and first year teachers who have taken the place of quality, credentialed, experienced teachers. Don't take my word for it - ask anyone who has left, the PTSD is real. I can only hope that families that remain will get involved and engage in their children's education to support them in their academic path - they are going to need it. read more

Sycamore Academy's curriculum and philosophy is just what I was looking for. They prioritize not just educational standards, but whole-child learning with showcases, presentation skills, and STEAM learning. I was thrilled to find they include music, artists spotlights and technique, and Rosetta Stone for second language-learning! They have after school clubs covering just about any interest, sports, and cultural clubs to learn about cultures and countries. We just participated in the science fair here, progressed to county, and had a great learning experience with the help of Sycamore mentors. The staff are diverse, helpful, and dedicated. Terrible school, if you have a child with any sort of medical condition DON'T TAKE THEM HERE the school does not provide any time for catching up on work and relies on the children doing there work while at home sick. The teachers are very rude and often make children cry over simple mistakes. This school doesn't pay the teachers well also forces the older kids to take off their shoes and empty their backpacks to check for any drugs even though it was only one students problem. Take note that the principal runs the school how she wants to and fires the teachers who make learning fun for the children. A couple of the teachers have attitude problems or don't talk to the parents at all, most teachers just send work home and expect the parents to have a extra 4-5 hours a day to work on the Childs work which you would assume could be done at school. This school used to be amazing, but this school year has proven just how bad it has gotten. Barbara Hale, the principal, runs this school any way she wants. Half of the teachers and one of the admins quit a few months into the school year. Ms. Hale allows bullying, vaping in the bathrooms, students to be physically assaulted, moldy food to be served, and countless other issues to run rampant at her school. Filing a complaint with "the board" is pointless because she's the executive director of the board and all complaints go to her. Most of the positive reviews are from several years ago OR from her literal family members or even past students with horrible spelling and grammar which is indicative of the academics at Sycamore. Barbara Hale, the "director" is more like a dictator. She does not provide acceptable curriculum to her staff and teachers that has caused students to be so incredibly low. Literally there is NO real language arts program! She will cuss and belittle her employees and students. She will then will not discipline students that behave horridly, like spit in teacher's faces, show private parts, flip off staff and students or even fist fight. But will then turn around and punish a good student for an accident or protecting themselves. She is unapproachable and makes her staff cry. She plays favorites and awards people she likes and does not support the teachers in anyway. The teachers that remain are brainwashed or too afraid to go anywhere else. When they do decide to leave amicably they are dismissed immediately and never thought of again. It's her way or the highway. Don't be fooled by the good advertising and nice looking campus. It is an inadequate and deplorable place to take your children. You will be better off going to Donald Graham or Cole Canyon. And if they are offering you a position to work there, keep looking! I can't say enough good things about this school! The entire faculty is amazing! My daughter was attending another school and it was awful. There was an issue everyday! My daughter was unable to stay focused and on task because the kids at the other school were so unruly and the teachers and faculty did nothing about it. The teachers were also just there for a check and waiting to retire so they didn't care anymore. My daughter was behind and struggling. We made the switch to sycamore and now she is thriving! She went from being behind, to being ahead in almost every subject. Infact, she just received her first academic award! Her teacher (Mrs. Aguilar) is amazing! We love her so much! She goes above and beyond! There's also so many different after school programs at this school that help kids in areas they're struggling with! That was not offered at the other school. Sycamore really cares about their students and their education. I am so happy that my daughter has so many more years left at sycamore! This school is horrible. Teachers are payed to treat students unfair, yell at them, take away time that they need, and much other things that I'll get into later on. I've never ever seen a school this horrible. The "5 star" reviews on this school must be from parents that don't see what's going on inside of the school. I am a former student at this school, and I'm here to tell you it's horrible. First, if you want your child to have a good education I don't recommend going here. It's behind on all education. Im I'm 7th grade learning 6th grade stuff. The P.E isn't actual P.E, you basically just get 30 minutes of play time. If you want your child to keep your their phones on them then that's no going to be possible. If you get caught with you phone in your pocket. It gets taken up to the front office and you have to turn it in everyday for however long they want you to. The staff is horrible, they might look nice when you first meet them but they are actually horrible, the people in the front office hate they're job, they do stuff half- and if you call up there for a issue or something of that sort, they talk horrible about you. There's so much cussing and hating on parents going on in that front office you wouldn't believe it. Students get treated really unfair. The special Ed kids get treated way more better, which is totally understandable but, They're so quick to say that we are all equal but the moment They do something bad they love to cover it up, but if I do something bad I go up to the office and get yelled at by 5 people. The principal/ Director is horrible, like I said in the beginning She pays her staff to treat the kids horrible. There's a teacher in 7th grade that is absolutely horrible. The more involved we got with the school, the more we were mistreated. You would think it would be the opposite, but not here. My wife dedicated hours upon hours volunteering in my daughter's class, the teacher was grateful to have her in the room, and everything seemed great. A year later, the teacher was fired for unrelated reasons, which happens all the time here, and the school basically ostracized us when we asked for a little more help for one of my children. Barbara Hale, in particular, was absolutely awful. She's the director, but she's also on the board, and since she ostensibly answers to no one, she gets away with running the school into the ground. Their enrollment is down, people are leaving all the time, and their test scores are down, yet Barbara concerns herself with fighting against teachers who want to unionize and involving herself in petty disagreements between staff. You'd have a tough time finding a more incompetent administrator because I don't believe one exists. The teachers are underpaid and underqualified because no one who's any good at teaching would work under such a monster, especially with no union protection and a despicably low salary. Furthermore, my daughter was actually punished when we reported that she was being bullied by another student. I honestly couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. Barbara insisted that there was more to the story, yet she never shared that information with us. We still don't know the other side because there probably isn't another side to the story, otherwise, why didn't they tell us? Makes no sense, right? It didn't make sense to me either. Barbara has no business working with other human beings in general, but especially not kids. It's bad. Trust me. The test scores are bad, the reviews are bad, and the school enrollment is shrinking. The school has lost their true essence. Some of the teachers are amazing but because of the lack of support from the administration for discipline problems and having to wear so many hats the teachers get burned out or they leave. They try out too many things at once to the point that they are spread too thin. They also don't put enough resources or attention into a particular program for it to succeed. The middle school curriculum is a joke if you have a child that is advanced math good luck because they are now teaching themselves. The director should stop trying to open up more schools when she has yet to resolve problems or workout the kinks in the Wildomar campus. Sycamore has the potential to be an awesome school however the staff is spread too thin, good families leave because it lacks in discipline, teacher burnout and the school is more reactive than proactive. Look elsewhere for your children. I gave a two star review because they still have some staff that is pretty awesome but the school should be careful because without the support they're bound to lose them. As a former student at this school it is terrible. The academic skills are way behind grade level. The students here are being taught the grade below the one they are actually in. The grades are on a scale from 1-4 and aren't shown correctly. The director Barbra Hale is rude and bullies the students if they bring a problem to her. She threatens students with ridiculously uncalled for disciplines. If you take a serious issue to her, she will act like it is the child's fault. She runs the school the way she wants to, not how it should be run. When it comes to bullying (physically or mentally), nothing is done about it. Bullying can be done in front of staff and nothing is said about it. The teachers are underpaid and try their best to teach the students things they are supposed to be, yet get in trouble or yelled at for not using the curriculum they are advised to. Most teachers quit within months to a year of attending this school. This is really bad for your child because of the constant sub switches and trying to find new teachers to take their place. I once had 3 different teachers in one year of being here, all quitting within months. During this time barley anything was being taught because the subs had no clue what they were doing. Some teachers scream at students and almost get physical with them for little things or things they apparently "saw". One teacher yells at students to go outside of the classroom and will scream at them, if the student makes reasonable remarks, the teacher gets even more mad and will send them to the office where they get yelled at more. Many students have cried because of this, but yet nothing gets done about the teacher or gets told anything. Some teachers also yell at students for not getting an assignment done on time with no help at all. Teachers also keep students in during lunch or break time to do the assignment, if the student tries to get help the teachers will give poor help. The teacher will keep the student in for however many days it takes them to finish, which is unacceptable especially when the student asks for serious help. Some teachers do not extend the due date of an assignment if you need them to, for personal reasons. The food being served in the cafeteria is barely edible and sometimes is moldy. The staff members are mean to the students and yell at them for reasons they shouldn't. Staff members make rude comments to students and can cuss at them without getting in any trouble. The staff does not protect your child whatsoever and just walk around in areas that are unimportant. They now allow only one student in the bathroom at a time (for girls only) when there are two stalls and a sink, so there should be allowed more girls using it at a time. For the boys restroom they allow 2 or more in at a time without saying anything to them. If they do say something it consists of banging on the door and screaming at them to get out. They also hold the door open when girls are trying to use the restroom. The office members take days or weeks to respond to emails as well. If a child gets injured at school they simply give them an ice pack and send them back to class with no parent/guardian informed. If a student needs to keep their phone on them for something and a staff member sees it in their pocket, the child's phone gets taken to the office and has to go on a phone contact which means the student will have to turn in their phone to the office for however long they want. The dress code at this school is a whole other situation. One thing about it that is ridiculous is how students aren't allowed to wear pajama pants, when that is what a lot of middle school students are most comfortable in. Another thing that is terrible is the fact the school starts at 8:00 am, where every school in the area starts at 8:30 or later. The "5 star" reviews I am assuming are from staff or teachers pretending to be parents to make their school look better than it actually is. I personally had to teach myself how to write or read better because this school does not teach your child that correctly. This school mainly cares about how it looks versus how it really is. Which also includes the constant construction they do. Overall this school poorly ran and is horrible. I advise you to not send your child here unless you want them to not be successful in high school and mess up their mental health. This school will put your child way behind and will ruin their health mentally. Sending your child to this school will be a terrible mistake you could ever make.
