So far, I have had a better experience than the previous reviewer had. The staff was cooperative…read moreand sufficiently professional as staffs go these days. Dr. Craig was very patient with me and took time to explain the different meds and procedures available. I have not had a procedure yet. I am a little concerned about a new prescription not being phoned in to my pharmacy until closing time but other than that I am continuing with her care and will post again after I have an injection or other procedure.

I'd been under the care of two doctors after tearing a muscle in my foot, one ortho surgeon and one…read morewho was a " Sports Medicine rehab specialist". Neither one cared that the surgeon almost caused me to lose my foot by botching the reconstructive surgery. The rehab doctor watched me walk across the floor, prescribed custom insoles, and cleared me. The entire time I'm complaining of nerve pain. This went on for three years. While working one evening, I met Dr Vance. I asked him if I could run my case by him, he listened and told me to get in to see him. He was the only doctor who took my nerve pain seriously. He scolded my case manager for not being a proper patient advocate, he stood up for me with the insurance company, he demanded that I get proper treatment. He jumped through every hoop that was required for me to get the treatment that I needed. Because of the extensive damage done by the 1st dr, I do still see Dr Vance, but because of his patient advocacy, I have been able to get off of a significant amount of the medication that I was originally on before my 2nd reconstructive surgery. While a lot of doctors will throw a pill at the problem, Dr Vance wants to fix the problem to eliminate the need for medication. After reading some of the reviews, I can honestly say that I have never seen these actions by any of his staff. The staff has never been anything but friendly to me. Yes, he does have rules, as long as you follow the rules, you aren't going to have any problem at all with him. Yes, he requires you to quit smoking or using nicotine products because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and keeps you from healing properly. His goal is to help you heal. If healing and getting out of pain is not important enough to you to follow his rules, don't waste your time because he does demand that you follow the rules. But that's why he has such good patient outcomes! I am walking proof of this.

Mom went there to recover from a fall. Little to no therapy…read more Was either in a wheelchair or her bed , poor wound care Said she was baseline and could only take a few steps and basically kicked her out right before big ice storm and begged for her to stay until storm passed Got her home and she used her walker and walked from the car all the way into the house and into her chair...but they said she could only take 4 or 5 steps ! They could have had her walking down the halls with her walker Very disappointed ! They talk a great game but don't back it up!

We placed Mom who is in her 90's in Highland Home, Ridgeland, MS for rehab after hip replacement…read moresurgery. Due to our knowledge of shortage of staff in most rehab/nursing home facilities, our family made the decision to provide around-the-clock care for our Mom, which included bathing, feeding, bathroom assistance, etc. The administrative, housekeeping, OT/PT & the majority of the floor nurses & CNAs were very kind and helpful, the accommodations and food were very good. However, our major concern was the medical leadership team. Our Mom began having urges to go to the bathroom throughout the day & night (as many as 30 times between 12am-12-pm-we kept a log & shared with nursing staff). Due to the severity of these urges, Mom could not rest or stay in her OT/PT sessions. On the advice of a medical family member, we asked medical staff at Highland Home to order urinalysis to determine if she had a UTI. My sister made them aware that a small amount of feces was in the bedpan they used to collect the specimen which contaminated the results. To our knowledge they did not redo the test, but informed us that she did not have a UTI. The urges continued & we assumed it was her early dementia. The day after she was discharged, we carried her to her primary physician who immediately diagnosed her with a UTI & prescribed an antibiotic. To us, this was clear evidence of medical negligence, as the UTI could have escalated from a bladder infection, treatable by an antibiotic, to a serious life-threatening condition such as sepsis. As a facility that specializes in providing care for a largely elderly population, one would think that, when certain symptoms present, testing for a UTI should be part of the medical protocol. Our mother suffered unnecessarily for several days, when a simple test and antibiotic treatment could easily have resolved the issue. Due to the severity of this medical negligence and lack of follow-through from the medical leadership team, we cannot in good faith recommend Highland Home in Ridgeland, MS.
