I went in as an ER patient then ended up being admitted for an overnight stay. Due to the seriousness of my condition. It was very scary for a moment I will admit. The staff was professional, friendly and took great care of me. I eventually made it to my room around midnight (Sunday morning). There were several EKGs performed, numerous amount of blood taking, xrays and CT scan with contrast. That was a weird feeling. Overall, I'm glad and thankful to be here. Being able to write this review because I wasn't doing well at all the day of my visit. Nurse Evans was great and Kiah, once I was taken to my room. Nurse Malia was a gem herself that Sunday and upon me being discharged. I have to thank Dr. Cloud for his sense of humor also. read more

This is the most poorly run ER I've ever encountered in my life. Like 3rd world country run. It was even busy amd my GF came in at 9:00 pm and didn't leave until 6:00 am in the morning. A check-in and then wait for 2 hours. Then get to the room and wait to hrs, get an x-ray and wait 3 hours for the results. Rude, slow. No water anywhere (both water fountains were down since Covid). The place is Dirty as well. You're literally best off dying at home. This place sucks! Its been 8 hours. read more

So far it is a very nice facility, the nurses and the doctors have been very nice. Everything looks clean. My sister in law had a surgery scheduled and she was taken care of in a good timely manner. I stayed for 5 days after suffering a heart attack back in April 2024. Most of my experience was negative. However, I found two good doctors, but other than that the staff was wreched. I've received misinformtion related to my care and most disgustingly, I ended up carrying home BED BUGS from my hospital bed. I HATE this hospital! I came in with 4/10 chest pain and earlier in the day at home on 3 liters oxygen ranging at the lowest82% while standing and light activity to93%. On Dec 5 I was in Methodist Olive Branch low oxygen. Not on oxygen before this. Discharged with home O2 and lungs clear.(told this to union hospital). I had been to Dr Wilkes office on the 13th and he was concerned that I may have pulmonary hypertension and shunt. He told me if my oxygen was lower than 86 for a little while t go to the ER. He also was referring me to a cardiologist.(told Union). There were 3 other people in the waiting room. I was called to triage and blood was taken, O2 was 93% at that time. They sent me back to the waiting room. X-ray was taken again and sent back to the waiting room. An hour or two later I was sled for an urine specimen and told to take it in the public bathroom. After about 4 hours and person after person taken back my husband requested the head nurse. They took my vitals and oxygen 93%, although I had several rough patches in the waiting room But not monitoring was provided.We expressed the lack of care even if their were more critical patients. Nurse said that my acuity was a 2? My Husband asked what the course of action was or plan. The nurse asked someone in the hall and they said that my triponin levels okay but wanted another blood test. If they were truly concerned of a heart attack then it should have been taken every hour. Since this is the only treatment being discussed, even though we knew it wasn't a heart attack, we wanted to go home. The person in the hall said that it would be okay. We refused the second lab because it was not what was wrong. They then didn't give us discharge papers, but AMA! We refused to sign. There was no communication or care. read more

What kind of blatant medical malpractice is going on here?! These people are such Biggots! There was an admin employee from another methodist here with her mother since 8:30 am. They got called to a room at midnight! She said they were not supposed to keep accepting patients if they were full. This place is the worse. Avoid night shift. I wentnin at about 3 am for an abscess tooth. They wouldn't even give me an ice pack for pain and everyone had an attitude and hated their jobs clearly. If you don't want to be a nurse than don't. I asked a woman sitting next to me if she had been waiting long, she said she had been waiting since 12 am.... by the time I asked her it was already 6 am.... another gentleman told me he had been there since 3 pm the day prior. This ain't an emergency room. They havenno urgency to help you. I went to a different hospital, not willing to wait and in too much pain, and was seen within 40 minutes upon arrival and given a shot for my tooth pain as well as antibiotics. Do not go to methodist unless you want to die. Also the bathrooms are disgusting... it's a hospital. Get it together. read more

This has to be the absolute worse hospital located in the city. The nursing staff has poor beside manner when dealing with patients. No patient should ever call for their nurse and hear the nurse say cut her light off and never respond. They have nurses on the night shift that don't remain on their floors and go to other floors to hang out with friends. When they do respond to patients it wasn't a how can I help you it was a what do you want. They are scanning medication and not giving it to the patient. Not checking machines when they are alarming. The emergency room is at full capacity yet they are still expecting patients. There are at least 17 beds in the hallways an those patients are being treated. If you are being admitted to the hospital there is a 24-72 hour wait for a room. read more

The nursing staff was awful & made the entire experience horrible. The doctors & physical therapists were nice & attentive. I am not complaining about the doctors or physical therapists. The nurses were extremely rude & lazy. They would not give me my pain meds on time. They acted like they hated their jobs. They waited over an hour to help me use the restroom each time I asked. They acted annoyed every time I pushed the button to ask for ice water or anything else. They'd say they'd bring me an extra blanket or pillow, but never did. I could only get them to help prop my foot up or adjust the pillows under my leg (I'd had surgery for a broken tibia & fibula) when they came in to get my vitals. The nurses were argumentative & seemed angry to be there. Horrible experience due to the nurses. I am not criticizing the doctors or physical therapists. They were lovely. But the nursing staff was deplorable. read more

After seeing all of the negative reviews I'm please to say my experience was fantastic. I had a surgical procedure done last Thursday 2/17/22. The whole process from entering the hospital to being discharged was great. Everyone from the sign in desk, prep area, surgery room, recovery and hospital as a whole were very knowledgeable, professional and caring. I wouldn't hesitate going there again. And I don't have any ties to the hospital...no family members or friends that work there...just appreciate the care that they showed. I think one thing people still overlook is how stressed the healthcare workers have been during the pandemic. It's not business as usual but from what I experienced the care and concern are still there at Methodist University Hospital. Nice job guys!!! read more

For someone coming in through the ER, saying this was a great place seems a little odd. Sparing you all the "details" suffice it to say, my stay here was serious and the hospital team on the cardiology floor were amazing! They were caring, attentive and thorough...unfortunately it was a few weeks ago...and i have been through a lot...but Jocelyn ( Dr. on the floor ) and Dr. Jha were top notch. The nursing care team....too numerous to remember by name....so sorry ladies...in my delicate condition, saw to my every need with grace and professionalism. The Baptist East cardiology nursing team on 2nd floor, could certainly take some pointers from all of you. My dad came here and is currently experiencing neglect and regretful experience. He arrived at 3pm CST 10/11 complaining of aching body, tiredness. He waited hours before being taken back for triage. He is currently still there still sitting waiting to be seen. He says there is no one present in waiting room, and they were waiting on a room for him. They took him out the system at 7am per the staff because it resets each morning. It is now 8:53am CST 10/12, still waiting to be seen by someone sitting in ER front room. What an awful experience. I've never heard of such a thing, waiting in a hard chair for that long waiting to be seen at ER. read more

I was a patient here for 4 months. Overall, it was a very negative experience. From the rude staff, the rooms, and the care. I had a few great nurses, but most of them were neglectful and rude. The system is chaotic and they were constantly messing up my name, paperwork, etc. I have too many complaints to list them all here. I only come here because my surgeon is a real keeper. Things started off well enough. I came in with a bowel perforation and was in horrific pain. Ironically, I had a shoulder injury during the procedure that perforated my bowels. My shoulder injury has been ignored completely 9 hours into my ER visit. It took several hours to get my first dose of pain meds, despite my overtly obvious pain. The second dose took 6 calls to the desk and 3 hours to get. The nurse was MIA about 4 consecutive hours. I was crying out in pain for several hours and No one ever checked on me despite my update I made with each call to the desk (this is my 6th call over 3 hour period and no one has checked on me yet...... my pain is a 10/10." Finally the nurse came to see me- without an apology or an explanation. I had been told earlier that they were ready to do my CT scan, but that was before the 4 hour hiatus. The surgeon was on standby pending results of the CT, in the event I needed emergent surgery. At 3-4am, I was so frustrated that I stepped outside my room to glare disapprovingly at a group of EMT's and nurses hanging out in the back hall by my room cackling and cutting up very loudly. When my glare yielded no response, I went back out there to tell them their loud behavior was incredibly rude and disrespectful to the sick patients. That finally quietened them done. I should not have to go scold the staff for their very obnoxious and unprofessional behavior. These situations are not isolated events. The nursing care has been very unprofessional and disrespectful since I started coming here over two years ago. I spent 5 weeks in the ICU here earlier this year. I've spent almost 12 weeks in ICU over the last two years. I'm a nurse myself. I expect to be treated respectfully with compassion every visit. Unfortunately, excellence is never the standard of care here. Due to restraints imposed because of Corona, my husband was not allowed to stay with me. He would've been my voice had he been able to stay with me. read more

Nurses and management in the ER are absolutely horrible. I'm a medical professional who recently sent two relatives through their ER, because they have such strong stroke and heart disorder centers. The ER nurses told my relatives that nothing was wrong, treated them horribly, and nearly had them convinced they should go home. One of my relatives (actual patients) ended up having neurosurgery while the other had a cardiac blockage and stent placed. Since when do nurses have medical degrees that qualify them as able to diagnose? Stop rolling your eyes when providers send you actual human beings to be worked up. Be nice. Follow the doctor or midlevel's orders or get out of the medical field. read more

NIGHT SHIFT REVIEW! The good 3rd shift triage nurses were the most rudest nurses I've ever experienced. If you're familiar with kidney stone pain, that's what i was going through. If you haven't it's a constant excruciating sharp, aching pain in your lower abdomen and back. My pain was crippling! I seriously thought nurses loved their jobs and helping people; these night shift employees certainly says the opposite. There's a very noticeable difference between the Day & Night shift. (Yes I've dealt with both within a weeks timeframe.) They day shifts actually moves with urgency and care , while the night shift are chilling and conversing and get an attitude when you ask for help . If you come here strongly suggest avoiding the night crew. I showed up here around 3am didn't see triage for another hour and a half around like 4:40am so I'm just in the agony for the entire wait period. Triage finally calls and I'm thinking finally they'll give me something to kill the pain , they didn't. They instead proceeded to have an attitude with me because I was in too much pain for them to get my blood pressure. ( This is one of the main ways day shift treats you better , the day shift gave me medicine for my pain in triage and got both my blood pressure and urine sample no problem ) while the night shift says "Hey you gotta tough it out." "Yeah, I'm not going to get a blood pressure with him moving." If I weren't in so much pain I would've be enraged. God bless the night shift to get through whatever is causing them to treat patients like pests. I left . I'd rather cry myself to sleep at home from the pain than to be treated like crap at a hospital. read more

I didn't think my experience here could get worse than the last review....but here we are. Got here at 2pm, got labs drawn, CT, ekg and x Ray by 345. By 405pm I could log in to the Methodist portal and see all my results were normal..it's 7:11pm and we are STILL sitting in the waiting room because they say they are waiting for a room. The "emergency" department and staff was among the worst I have ever worked with on any level. Seriously, self-admitted "I don't care" dollar store employees have legitimately higher ratings than the representatives entrusted with the lives of our loved ones. I have never experienced the level of carelessness, incompetence, disinterest, neglect, and complete disregard for fellow humans, it was alarming and disturbing. Was taken via ambulance to Methodist around 6pm tonight with pain, nausea and severe abdominal pain. The nurse took my temp, drew blood and had me taken to the ER waiting room. Still here. I've called the charge nurse, Amanda, twice about the above. She said she would have intake come and check on me. Never happened. It's after midnight and have been throwing up and no less pain. Why wasn't I diverted? Why wasn't I given a choice of staying home and trying to come tomorrow? I have an immune compromised system, colostomy, urostomy and am in a wheelchair. No one checked on my for 6 hours. This place need media attention called to them. I understand everyone is sick, but seriously Methodist and Memphis you must do better. read more

My Mother came in through the ER via EMTs. She waited over 12 hours for care. She was belittled and denied food and medicine because she refused to sign a medical form she did not understand. Two doctors collaborated in degrading a 75 year old woman. A complaint has been filed and Methodist has not responded. We are in the process of filing with the Tennessee Medical Board. read more

this hospital was probably the best I've ever been to I had emergency brain surgery there and was in recovery for at least 10 days. The doctors and nurses were absolutely wonderful, I slept good and was pain-free most of the time. I did have to wait for my insurance company Blue Cross to approve of encompass rehab. I did walk out of rehab early because although the nurses were wonderful I felt like I was waiting too long for any significant work on rehab. It was supposed to be three hours a day in that three hours it was about 30 minutes a day. I was putting my son out and I have two small dogs here I thought would keep me more active and they have. I have made more rehab games here than I did there and I would much rather be here. they were all pretty upset that I walked out and refused to give me any medication which took me almost a week to finally get through my own doctor just find out none of it was really that important. they gave me no instructions for home care or equipment. I do not recommend encompass but if you have to do rehab coming out of methodist that's probably where they will send you. read more

My wife had the best of care. From the Doctors to the young man who delivered the meals and everybody in between was top notch! However, the billing from the surgical center SUCKED! Very unscrupulous tactics. They turned our billing over to a collection agency. When I called them and asked what was going on they told me that we sent you a bill for payment and that they left numerous voice messages on our cell phone. THIS WAS A FLAT OUT LIE AS WE DID NOT RECEIVE A BILL OR GET ANY PHONE MESSAGES. I have NEVER been turned over to a collection agency in my 65 year existence. THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF!! read more

After my husband's surgery & recovery time, He had to spend an extra 7 hrs. in Recovery (where family members are not allowed) because there was on one who could clean a regular room to put him in. Once in the room, we had to ask for linens, toilet paper, & ice water. For most of the 5 days he was there, there wasn't any housekeeping to clean floors or empty trash. Most of the nursing staff was excellent but some were just plain lazy & not helpful or caring at all. On Sat. breakfast was delivered 2 hrs. late at 11:00AM. We had to tell several people that the hospital records on him were not correct (drug list, allergies, & primary care doctor) but no one could seem to make changes in the computer. read more

After Methodist Germantown ER found my husband's brain tumor on a CT scan, they loaded him up immediately and brought him here. This hospital has some of the South's best neurosurgeons and staff. Dr. Sorensen from Semmes Murphy performed the surgery perfectly. The surgical nurses were exceptional in keeping me updated every 30 minutes throughout my husband's 6+ hour surgery. After the surgery, his floor nurses in neuro ICU kept him fully stocked with his favorite juices and Popsicles. They even gave me great tips for eating at the hospital cafeteria. Thank you so much. You would never know he had this surgery almost 10 months ago. While the neighborhood after dark can be scary, they make sure there are buses to take you to and from the parking lot. I thought hospital security did a great job rounding up some of the ER escapees. If nothing else, it was highly entertaining to stand back and watch. read more

The ER is ran by idiots and after almost 7 hours I had to force somebody to see me only for the nurse who triaged me to ask why I was back cus she even knew I should have been cared for. After another hour and a half I had to basicly Force them to give me iv and meds but not even strong enough because they don't have a room for me in the back on in a triage room in the front...after 8 and a half hours.
