I assume this is Baptist on Walnut Grove. I came there on Sunday, January 18, from the ER in Arlington. They were good, too, and the wonderful ambulance people took me straight to my room. My experience at big Baptist was amazing apart from the fact that I felt like crap. My nurse, Pri, and her student nurse, Taylor, went above and beyond what they were required to do. Dr. Kuperman was the best doctor I think I have ever seen in the hospital. Jeremiah and Denic were good nurses, too. The food was good. The service in all areas was good. I recently spent some time at Baptist Hospital Memphis, arriving on a Monday night, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. **Medical Staff:** One of my main concerns was the lack of cohesion among the doctors. It seemed like they didn't communicate well with each other, leading to rounds at all hours without much consideration for patient comfort. I had the absolute worst treatment from a doctor Dr. Mintz. He introduced himself as a "fortune teller " and proceeded to tell me my family would most certainly would not be there for me and would let me down. He went even further to tell me his bet that I would be dead in a very short time because of my family failing me. He took hours to make his rounds and even longer to report on the computer what I could or could not have. I couldn't even get a cough drop. The worst part of my stay was the end. You know how your family normally picks you up in your room? Because i decided to use home rehab instead of a rehab center, remember I told you he didn't think i would live, the rehab center was his choice for me, i simply took option b which is my right, anyway, to punish me, and he absolutely did just that, he had unbeknownst to me told my husband not to pick me up until 6pm that day that was when he was releasing me but told me i was released around noonish. Not being able to reach my husband because he had made plans to get me at 6 and so wasn't looking for me to call i was told by Dr. Mintz my husband wasnt able to pick me up until 6, , literally lied about that, and why the long wait till 6?so I simply started calling for an ambulance service to get me home So i didnt have to wait for hours to get home . That is what he had told me i would be going to transported in to the rehab center so i thought that was what I needed to get home. When the rehab coordinator on the 34 th floor heard and saw me on the phone looking for a way to get home she had a meltdown and raised her voice at me saying not to do that. She went to Dr. Mintz and told him i had chosen to go home to rehab there he came straight to my room and asked. I honestly answered and that did not bode well for me. They don't realize you can hear them very clearly in the hallway so i heard it with my own 2 ears. I heard Dr. Mintz tell the nurses to take my bed, and send me to a place called patient discharge lounge, theres no such place in that hospital with a sign that says anything like that and was policed by a rude unfriendly either a man or woman firefighter. Oh, and i was the only patient there and it wasn't a lounge of any kind. It was a floor of the hospital with hardly any patients, i saw 3 patients tops andi was forced to get up on legs a had barely taken 10 steps on in over a week and made me sit a patient room that was stripped down to a very hard chair a tv and a bookshelf. I had bedsores covering my back a bottom and had a broken arm so that was especially cruel. That was painful to say the least. To this day I believe that that maneuver on Dr. Mintz part was his way of making it hard for my medical transprt to find me, which it did. He threw a tantrum like a child and got even because I chose to rehab at home. I will say that for the most part the nurses were compassionate and kind, he had a few followers that made my stay a living hell and even witheld pain medication sometimes hours after asking for relief Causing extreme distress and anxiety from the pain alone. I will never set foot in that hospital ever again. I have told my family that i would rather die before letting them help me and thats the truth! And so you know, ive managed to live safely with rehabbing at home and my family stepping up to the plate to tend me when I needed them most for almost 6 months now! I cannot hardly believe this happened even though i was there but it did! Im devastated by the way Dr. Mintz spoke to me, treated me and his ultimately petty behavior. Your in the wrong line of work.! and shame on you! Im considering a lawsuit. this experience was the most traumatic thing I've ever experienced. Other than my mother dying. Thats how bad. This was one of the worst visits I have ever experienced. Upon arrival, attitudes were dismal, yeah they sucked, very unprofessional. Nurse MeMe, was sweet and attentive. Derek was okay, until he wasn't. T. Woods, was having a very uncertain experience, although he is a "student." I disgress! I'm here now past three hours. NP Kisha Pickford, was very professional and thorough. I didn't receive the lunch I requested. I've had two EKG's performed and a CT scan. Everything done was successful. Now it's time for me to be discharged. Now my vitals were re-taken and IVs were being removed. Nurse Codie, was explaining my discharge paperwork as well placing clean bandages. As my blood drip on my arm, I thought that she'd get a alcohol wipe to clean it. Oh heck no! She didn't clean it off, nor did she replace the bandage that is full of blood. Yes, I left with blood visibly on my arm.I understand that the ER was busy, but making sure your patient(s) are properly attended should matter. By the way, my blood pressure was still stroke levels when I left. What was visibly noticeable was the entire staff with the exception of a few. There were many of them who wasn't certain as to which way to go, or what exactly they ahould be doing. This was an all time new. The employees were doing more complaining about how certain room's should arranged and used for. Too much politics going on in the presence of their patients. They had multiple patients in one room, like myself waiting for whatever purpose. I'm still not sure, I know that I didn't feel safe. Everyone was being shuffled around like puzzle pieces. There is not a worse hospital than this house of horrors in Memphis. There is so much malpractice that gets swept under the rug, it is unbelievable. The medical professionals are great. It is management, administration and the systems that are the problem. The thing is, even before the financial squeeze all hospitals have been experiencing, Baptist was still basic and terrible. Let me give you a real life example of how Baptist conducts business. In the mid 2010s, Baptist was in serious financial distress. So much so that is was the cardiac unit that kept the hospital open. In order to avoid closing, they instructed their head cardio thoracic surgeon to take all cases. In some situations, it is better to not operate because the patient would live longer without intervention. Some patients are just not good surgical candidates and will not ever recover from the surgery. Well Baptist needed the money so the surgeon did as instructed. The units statistics plummeted. One could argue that it was the patient's choice. Patients put tremendous trust into their physician and basically do what they say. These patients should never of been given the option to have surgery. Oh well. It is a way to legally, but highly unethical, to make money. The thing is, why was Baptist in a dire financial situation in the first place when virtually no other hospitals in the city were struggling? There are many other true stories I could give about Baptist but the point is do not even enter the parking lot. It will be luck of the draw whether you receive proper care or not. Basic Baptist just cares about making a profit. Quality of patient care is maybe a 4th or 5th concern. If you don't believe this is true, ask a local nurse. They know the truth. read more

This hospital saved the life of one of my family members, two times. Is this place perfect? No. Could certain aspects of the organization be improved? Yes. But, what else is new? Perfection is a elusive goal and cannot be expected or achieved at all times. That's why it's called the medical arts. Had to come back to the ER after recently being discharged from a 5 day stay. When I came back the second time the staff was very proactive in my care and my case especially with everything being so recent . I was able to get the surgery I need to stop the pain everything was causing . Doctors are great and the nurses on the 5th floor are extremely supportive and helpful! read more

June 8, 2024 I was a patient at this hospital from May 21 to May 31, 2024. My experience was good, overall. It would have been EXCELLENT, but I had the worst experiences with a male doctor... Dr. Watson. He was one of the "general" doctors/hospitalists I was assigned. I'm a Lupus patient, who has dealt with and suffered with the disease for over 25 years, with over 50 other health problems. On the 23rd, after my blood transfusion, I informed this man that my legs were in excruciating pain. He ignored me. So, I kept reiterating that I was in pain. I felt he was ignoring me because I AM BLACK. He, finally, gave a nonchalant response and said "You had an ultrasound. It's not a blood clot. You should be ok." After saying this, he left. Later that day, when I told the nurse I was in pain, she said she would check to see what she could give me. This lady NEVER came back. I sent word to her that I was still in pain. She STILL ignored me. Never came back to check on me. The next day, the same thing occurred with a male nurse, but he couldn't just ignore me like the first nurse, because he had to give me my iron infusion. The first nurse ignored me after she gave me my iron infusion. Since I can't violate my own HIPAA, I wrote what transpired with this Dr. Watson on my FB page. If anyone wants to see what else happened, it's on my FB page and that particular post, along with other posts I made while I was in there, is PUBLIC. To sum up my experiences with him, Dr. Watson had poor bedside manners towards me as a BLACK WOMAN in pain. He laughed, in my face, and lied on me to me insinuating I never told him I was in pain. LIAR!!! He, also, called me "upset," because I mentioned MY RIGHT to know why I wasn't getting pain medication and I asked to speak to the person in charge over that floor. I, truly, believe I was treated like that by Dr. Watson, because I AM BLACK amongst other reasons. If it weren't for him, I would rate my stay as a 5, but his demeanor, attitude, lack of compassion, and low "downness" makes me give the hospital a 2. He's a "doctor" for crying out loud. EVERYONE ELSE WAS GREAT... down to the dietary department and housekeepers. I didn't see Dr. Watson, anymore, after he rudely laughed in my face as he called me "upset." I wasn't "upset." I wasn't yelling or any of that. I wanted to know why he thought he was GOD or someone, yet did devilish things towards me like laughed at my pain and denied me pain medication. I won't take away the fact that his orders of treatments did help me TREMENDOUSLY. Thanks, Dr. Watson. Ha. I want to give an even bigger extension of my gratitude to the other doctors, nurses, and Patient Care Assistants who took a part in caring for me. This experience made me realize that I should PUBLICLY review EVERY doctor, nurse, or receptionist, from Baptist or North Mississippi Medical Center (NMHS), who treats me negatively or in an unprofessional way. From this hospital stay forward, I WILL do just that. The public should know how some patients are treated by the medical field/medical staff. I currently have a family member in this hospital. What I cannot understand is that there are family members staying with or visiting patients and these people must have some relief from the ridiculously over priced cafeteria in this place. Whoever is over the cafeteria knows that they have a captive audience and they are doing nothing but price gouging everyone that has to get food from here. The people having to stay with a friend or family member is not doing it by choice and not everyone lives in a big house in certain parts of the county. They're having to either get somebody else to bring them food or they're doing without. The person, or persons in charge of the cafeteria needs a reality check. I can only hope for them that they are never forced with having to take bill money to be able to get something to eat while they're here. Went by ambulance with a broken Tibia, you could see the bone stickig up and a cut in the skin. I laid in extreme pain for 5 hrs, the Dr has to see the x-rays and examine you before any pain meds. The Paramedics had told them I passed out on the way, but I suffered for 5 hrs waiting on a Dr. I was admitted for surgery to put a rod and screws in. The surgeon, and other Dr's were very good. The other staff was horrible. They never cleaned the room or changed my sheets unless the were asked to. They failed to keep my blood sugar in range. They seemed like 240 and 299 was ok. They wouldn't let me have cheese, because of diabetes, but potatoes, rice, graves and ice cream was brought. This hospital has gone down. Some of the nurses were dishonest about the pain med the Dr ordered after my surgery. The $98K they charged my insurance was ridiculous to let me suffer. read more

I went to the ER this morning after accidentally slicing open a vein on my hand while trying to kill a fly in my bathroom window (hand went through glass pane) Staff was friendly, except for nurse in triage "work room" named Rachel. She was obviously high on something (benzos by the look of her glassy eyes) and put the blood pressure wrap around my arm (same side as my gash on my hand) and then it started gushing blood again due to the pressure. She was rude, had no empathy or compassion, and shouldn't be working with people in need of care. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

This is the second time I've been here this year the first time. Yes I shared my opinion and when I came back last night, they treated me as if I didn't matter. They finally got me to a room. I don't know so 330 and did not get to seen until after 7 AM. Anyway the doctor came in at first of all. I do not come to the hospital for pain meds. I stay in pain a lot of the time due to my conditions I could care less about pain meds. She made smart ass remarks about well it's all I can give you I don't care about that, she made a comment due to my condition while people with your condition don't get bleeds. Yes some of us do I have a condition called von Willebrand's disease and sometimes I do get joint bleeds but whatever after that she came back and I told her I said yes ma'am I do get bleeds occasionally that's how I am well hematology is not gonna have time for you, but we can run your blood work anyway.so I said ok just run it. Well not even 5 minutes later some woman came in open the door and said she wants you out she wants you out I said excuse me she said she wants you out. Needless to say it didn't go over well then some dude saying he's a dr said are you sure she said that like I'm a liar please I'm 52!why lie when I get treated good I let them know as well. But complaining here only gets you treated worse . What happened to compassion. You surely will not get it here . They (the ones I ran into) could care less about you. We came here to visit an elderly friend who recently had surgery and was recovering. My first impression was this hospital was aged, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Once inside, the place is just dirty. The room was filthy (4th floor). Trash on the floor, holes in the walls, and the bathroom was disgusting. We actually brought some bleach wipes to clean the room ourselves. The nurses and aides have zero interest in patient care. Asking for simple things, a washcloth, was a major event. It seemed to be more important to pay on their phone rather than tend the patient. I hope I never have to spend time at this hospital. I'm not sure how the state allows them to have patients. read more

My surgeon today was amazing...but now I understand why he only works here one day a week...Getting here was easy....the 5:45 curtain call is/was not. First impressions in admittance.. cheery and efficient the young lady was, , the prep area, nurses were nice but completely insensitive to the fact that for most of us, this IS NOT routine. Every part of my surgical prep felt clinical, rote and routine. The dressing-undressing prep less than personal, nurses and drs visits, fast and somewhat hurried (i am in cardiology)...my surgeon was a bright spot....he was engaging and looked well rested...important...right? His surgical prep team were friendly and informative. They explained the what and why...as did anasthesiology. They accommodated my request for music...The Eagles, Bob Seger, the last thing i remembered was ummmmm....Exceptional job..kudos to all. The hospital floor staff seemed curt and unfriendly for the most part...this cardiology visit felt low- budget ...there was a leftover sheet and pillowcase in my room after recovery, they brought me ice cream and sour cream but refused to serve me cheese in my dinner chef salad or butter, due to a lactose intolerance, little things that mean a lot when recovering...a gown that isnt ripped everywhere so it barely stays on and is 3x too big...making certain after surgery that i can navigate my food tray, having options for snacks available. after hours...you get the picture. Resort prices...sub-par service delivery and forethought. This review is facility centered and underwhelming support staff in cardiology...Baptist East. ...in- network will not be my decision maker next time. I am very displeased with this hospital. my husband came there to have a skin flap done. well he never got it done. stay there for 9 days. he had sepsis i seen it on the paper in the ER. but the doctors told me he didnt have sepsis. on his stay there. they were doing nothing. no iv's no antibodics, no nothing. so i asked the dr could he go to another hospital. and he got mad stomp his feet, and told me no, that he would die if I had him to leave. took him to another hospital, and the dr. there told me that he was sepsis, and if they had treated him for it, while he was in the hospital at memphis, he wouldnt got as bad as he was. she was crying. because of it. As a health specialist, go to another emergency care center. I am truly disgusted with the lack of empathy and care from staff. Yes I know your job is long and stressful, I know how the staff feels with this. But when I went in different times, one for myself suffering from a rapid UTI that was spreading quickly to my kidneys, and another for my sister being admitted for psychological trauma--I can't see how all the staff kept their jobs. I was not given medicine despite the anguish and tears I was in from bacteria spreading across my urinate tract. I cried and bled over the toilet for three hours, wishing I was dead. The other time for my sister, she slept in a filthy room with another patients blood on the bed and sat with an empty IV that bruised her arm over and over. I promptly removed the IV with the expertise I had and equipment I found in the room. Nurses said she could've died when I took out the IV, morons, they clearly didn't know any better and rather gossip and bitch in the hallway anyways. What you can take away from this review? Their staff is laughable, all failures to what it means to be a health care provider. All you who work here, find another job, you guys aren't cut out for it. Stop making patients suffer more than they already are. read more

The outpatient diagnostic testing dept is amazing! I had multiple tests scheduled today (XR, US, labs...) and I was planning on being there about 4 hours to get all this done. They had me out in 2 hours! Each department walked me personally to the next for a seamless transfer. They were each kind and curteous. I had all of my labs resulted within a few hours! I have never had testing done and results in the same day, let alone available at my fingertips. I got an email with each result. read more

my grandmother was in the waiting room with a serious issue. she went to the restroom and passed out. thankfully my aunt was in the restroom with her. My aunt pull the "emergency rope" it did not work. She pushed the button nobody came. she literally had to yell "help help" several times before a "nurse" came walking to assist her. My had to tell the nurse to bring a wheelchair because she was just looking while my grandmother was being held up by my aunt. Very disappointed in the "care" at this hospital. read more

This has got to be the worse healthcare experience I have ever experienced in my lifetime. It takes 45 minutes to get someone to come help get my Mom out of the bed to pee on the portable potty. The nutrition department doesn't go by what is requested by the doctor or the RN on the computer but instead keeps bringing items that my Mom cannot eat and the same lady keeps saying it is someone else's fault. As a physicians ourselves, my brother and I are working very long hours along with everyone and proud to do so. I entirely understand the demand we are up against. I've been having a lot of stomach issues for months and was even hospitalized at another hospital (St. Francis) that was a nightmare experience that made me fear going back to the hospital. The PA I saw at Baptist finally found the problem and was able to point me in the right direction for help. It wasn't the news I wanted but it was the news I needed. My PA spent more time with me in a four hour hospital visit than my "doctor" at St. Francis spent with me in three days. He also was somehow able to see uterine fibroids on a CT scan that were somehow missed not even three weeks earlier during a scan at St. Francis. The nurses and PA also knew how to properly care for someone with Ehlers danlos syndrome. I had five veins blown at St. Francis and had to live with black and blue arms for weeks. I looked like I had been assualted. At Baptist I was stuck three times and I don't have a single bruise on me. That's actually really impressive for someone with EDS. I can bruise running into the soft part of the couch. I was treated like a human being and when I showed anxiety, I wasn't drugged. I was talked to and had everything fully explained to me. No anxiety drugs needed. At St. Francis I was treated like a basket case and a problem that they just drugged and told to go to sleep. I just really appreciated the professional and human way I was treated. I know what's wrong and where to go to get treated for it. I didn't wake up to another day of living in fear for my life. The last time the cardio doctor said that he thinks it was a heart attack and offered pain med and it took over 2hours after Doc gave orders until he got med and than it was a shift change so it took 45 more minutes to get pain meds OMG I cried and I was in more pain. read more

I went in because I had a cough that was killing me. My ribs hurt so bad I could not lay nor sit. My blood pressure was 220 over 122 I had a huge head ake and more. But I was taken to the back to be seen by Dr.Abbas Mirza MD he was kind excellent bedside manner. He listen to me & fixed me up and had me on my way. He told me I had Bronchitis which was nice to hear because I thought I was going to die. The pain was truly wicked. The hospital was clean. Everyone was friendly & kind. Even after my X rays as I walked the halls I saw nurses & doctors who asked how are u feeling? They ended the conversation with I hope you feel better! Have a nice evening. read more

The main hospital is on the right if you enter from Walnut Grove. Doctor office buildings are on the left. They offer valet parking for the main hospital for $3.00. This is a nice service if you are here to visit someone. We were today and I used the service. It was great because it allowed me to get out of the car with three children and I did not have to worry about the parking garage. My mom also uses it because she does not feel safe in the parking garage alone and with the valet parking she does not have to park there. There is a Starbucks in the main hospital and a gift shop. Overall, it is a nice campus and the hospital has been renovated. Be sure to follow the signs so you don't get lost. read more

Had severe whiplash and this was the closest hospital. After I was treated and several days later I got a bill for 10,000 dollars and it said I was out of network. They never told me this or I would have went over to Methodist hospital. I will never forget or forgive them. read more

Everyone's travel nightmare. Family get together in Memphis: One member of our group taken 3am weekend Ambulance ride to hospital. Major event. (Specifics intentionally omitted) Staff was first rate and placed in special cardiac unit on 2nd floor (CVICU cardio vascular intensive care unit). Great triage, diagnostic teams and nursing staff. Cardiac Facilities are excellent. We may list individual physicians and other staff where appropriate but not here. Family took turns staying in room and visitation rules were not horribly restricted. (I think we were too noisy at times but nobody made a scene) Patient stabilized. Dr. worked well with personal physicians and specialists back home. 5 day stay and went home for follow up care. Two major problems. One is the cleanliness of the public bathrooms. They were atrocious. The other one was that parking is a bit far from the hospital and when it is raining hard you are going to get wet. read more

Spent 28 hours in this hospital for elective surgery. Came in through outpatient ambulatory was there until 11:30am on 8/8/23. They were wonderful in their care of me. Then on to the surgery suite again great staff and care. The problem came in when I was transferred to 2 south for overnight observation. My overnight bag I had been instructed to bring did not follow me to my room. Over the next 3 shifts I begged staff to find my bag as it had my glasses without which I am legally blind and my dentures I could not eat most of the food they brought me. Also missing my phone, credit card ID etc. My tablet and expensive smart watch used to monitor my Afib. The PCAs Dee and Jordan tried to help. The RN day shift was not helpful and even rude. I begged to be given my acid reflux med. RN stated would message doctor for an order 5pm 8/8 when I was discharged 11am 8/9 no order no medication. By 7pm I was in agony without it. RN offered me an oxycodone. I called my friend and had him bring me some from home and spare glasses. He saved my life. My bag was finally found in another patients room at 10am 1 hour prior to discharge. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING OF VALUE OR THAT YOU NEED TO THIS HOSPITAL. If someone cannot stay with your possessions all day have them bring it to you after you are in a room. This situation made for 18 hours on 2 south of misery and anxiety over my possessions. read more
