Anthony the owner, is letting me know I will need to pay $200 on top of the almost $10,000 I already spent on this "quality" fence to fix the gate clasp that has already had bolts fall off and is hanging off the fence. This fence is never slammed shut or used improperly, yet he is arguing that it is and therefore will only fix it if I pay an additional $200. He came out once because after a few months, the gate door was already not aligning to close properly-- but now another faulty part and he does not want to fix it. He claims that even once single slam from wind can cause the latch to break and therefore his faulty product will cost you $200 to fix on a brand new fence! This is a blame the customer company, never just a mistake on their behalf on quality or maybe a rushed installation! Very bad customer service and extremely unethical practice. I know we all need to make a living at the end of the day, but this is outright greedy after the dollar amount I had already spent on this fence. Find another company unless you wish to spend a large dollar sum and have zero coverage or warranty on poor parts after the fact.

The story of my new privacy fence installations (both sides) by T&C is a very long one, filled with…read morelots of drama and a few complications, which were only complications due to this being a shared project with my neighbors. I'm sure other homeowners can feel me on that one! I'll save the public on the details of that aspect. However, what wasn't an ounce of drama was my business relationship with Adam, owner of T&C. I had received several quotes from local fence companies and my impression on most (notably the "big guys" very popular and dominating the SD fence scene) was pretty disappointing. I either got the "don't care to get your business either way" attitude, the run around on pricing, or just really poor customer service in general. I'm not gonna name names, but there is definitely something to say about supporting local and very hardworking small businesses. Few notable things about Town & Country, and Adam in particular: He came out on a Sunday to meet with my neighbor and I to give us a quote. He answered his phone EVERY single time I called. Which was several. He gives the quotes, answers phone calls, and does the installation. Very hard working man. He gives really competitive quotes. His quote for wood was actually lower than every other company we got quotes from (4). Like most SD fence companies, he pushes for vinyl since we have a huge termite issue. But vinyl is still a hard sell for most people (me included). I learned a lot about vinyl and the manufacturer he uses...a highly respectable brand and I believe the product is from recycled material. You also get that lifetime warranty, etc etc.. but if you have existing landscaping-- notably trees, as I did, vinyl just isnt an option. Plus, being in an HOA I couldnt have a vinyl gate exposed to the community. He uses pressure-treated rails for wood fences so the fence is long-lasting... and seals that pressure-treated wood on the cut ends. "I like my fences to last" was his answer when I inquired about the spray sealant I saw him apply, when he told me most people don't seal it that way. Cut exposed ends = defeating the purpose! I appreciated that attention to detail. Having one side that shows the pressure-treated more than the other, I will say I find it kind of ugly but the end of the day... I spent $1,000s for a fence and want it to last for a long time. Comes to the job right on time (if not early). I felt a bit uneasy with him just making mental notes of my appt and no email interactions...he's old school that way and delivered in the end, so I suppose thats all that matters. His work helper went out of his way to help me dig up / fully kill the nasty ivy which used to take over my old fence and was very hard to get rid of. Totally wasn't their responsibility and I appreciate them doing that. And speaking of vegetation... the biggest issue with one side of my fence was an existing tree trunk that had growth RIGHT on the fence line. Adam assured me that my tree would be handled with care, with the fence built around it and they worked hard to dig out the existing posts to use the same holes and not case new damage to the very established root system. Each side was handed as separate jobs at separate times, and both were completed within a day. That included demo, fence install, and removal. The highlight of this job was getting a brand new gate leading to my yard - the existing one was so damaged I couldnt close it anymore. He also installed a pull lever since a 6 ft fence is impossible for me to reach to open! And he stated that sometimes after a month, and the wood dries the alignment can get off and all I needed to do was give him a call and he's come out to adjust it. After meeting with Miguel, I gave him an idea of what I had in mind, and he took accurate measurements of my property. Miguel gave me estimates on the use of different materials: wood, aluminum, galvanized steel and vinyl. After giving Miguel a budget I could work with, he presented me the options of using natural premium redwood (stained and sealed) with powder coated galvanized steel posts. Miguel was very easy to work with, and I like how he offered his input to further enhance my vision of what I wanted. Miguel is very efficient, along with his coworker, and he takes great pride in providing a quality product. He always kept me in the loop regarding each work phase, and was quick to address any of my questions. Best Gates and Fencing does not rush their jobs.
