*DO NOT USE THIS STATION * As of this posting, the Bartlett…read moreMetra station is going through renovations. Because of this, for the outbound train, the Bartlett train station gives absolutely no warning or announcement to commuters when the train does not stop or if we have to be on a different platform. This is speaking from experience. I contacted Metra and they've said it is because of the Bartlett station. I've contacted the Bartlett station and there is no answer.

The city of Bartlett just built a new metra station and it's pretty outstanding. Built in a Frank…read moreLloyd Wright theme, it has the signature stained glass windows, shallow roof, and concrete overhangs. As a functional building, it's a great architectural addition to the downtown Bartlett area. Inside, the spacious ticket window area looks like a great improvement over the old "shack" of a train station. There's also a coffee stand inside the station, though I have to say I'm a little disappointed that the coffee stand across from the old station didn't get the rights to move in to the new station. I'm all for capitalism and competition, but I'm pretty sure the old stand is going to go out of business simply because its out-of-the-way for most morning commuters at this point. I'd hate to see the little guy get closed up. The new station is built on the "inbound" side of the tracks, meaning that inbound trains (headed to Chicago) will stop immediately in front of the new station. In what I can only describe as a lack of common sense, a new outbound platform across from the new station was not built. Outbound commuters are still dropped off in front of the old station another 2-300 yards away. Based on where people choose to park, this means commuters will either have a long walk in the morning from their car to the station or a long walk in the afternoon to get from the station to their car. I get it... all Americans are fatties and we need to walk more, but it seems like the addition of a very simple brick platform across from the new station would have made more logistical sense. Now, if only Metra took credit or debit cards (but that's a whole new posting)

I use Uber a lot! But not always out of town over a long duration. However in Chicago I did use…read moreride share exclusively for a week. Note I also used Lyft and would compare prices. Not one or the other was always more reasonable. However once the price was $12 difference when heading to the airport. In my option ride share is the way to go if in the city of Chicago. There are too many issues with parking and the high price that makes it counterproductive to rent. The app functioned well, better in my opinion than Lyft. I utilized Uber around 10-12 times and found on average the rides arrived in under 10 minutes. Some were within a few, but others were longer. The drivers were almost all foreign, but spoke English. They were professional and mostly knew their way around. Few instances of problems that brings the review down a star and a half I would recommend Uber. 3.5 rounding up. Always tip your driver.

My browser suggested Uber, and I was half-awake and uncaffeinated, so I clicked through to Uber and started to enter my GrubHub login info. By the time I realized my mistake, Uber had my email. But I hadn't given them my credit card. Which raises a troubling question: If they really erased my data -- as they said they did when I deleted my account earlier -- how were they able to sign me up for Uber One and start billing me? When I read the email congratulating me on my Uber One membership, I was livid. Had to spend the next half hour trying to cancel, because of course, you can't talk to an agent. I'll double down on what I said earlier. This is a shady company. They're too cheap to invest in customer service, and they operate right on the borderline between crooked and legal. Don't trust them.

It was pretty easy to navigate our way out of Terminal 3 that night and locate the rideshare pickup spot. Monday night, we were flying out of Terminal 1. Security was quite a lengthy process but they kept it moving. It was the first time I've had to walk past drug-sniffing dogs as part of the security process, so that was an experience. Security itself was easy and TSA was friendly. We had a last-minute gate change due to limited gate options that required a quick stride through half of the terminal (B concourse), but we made it. I do wish they'd reconfigure their seating though, as with the swivel chairs, there were not enough seats for everybody waiting to board.

I was able to find a farmer fridge for breakfast which is nice since I am dairy and gluten free. The small area with a few seats and charges was ghetto and my plug fell out. Had to search for another area so I could stay standing since my back is killing me. Overall it's a big airport with plenty of options for food and drink. My plane did get in earlier tomorrow and time will tell what it looks like for departure
