One of the big reasons to take a ride at this or the Palatine train stations is that trains stop by here more frequently both inbound and outbound (especially on weekdays), and this is one of the stops that trains from the city will stop in later in the day (be aware of the last train out of the city if you head in from a smaller station).

The most frustrating part is that the hours that are posted often don't match the hours that the train station is open. On this Saturday morning, I was pleasantly surprised that the station was open. My husband and I were able to wait for the train in the warmth of the station instead of the cold and windy platform. The Metra Arlington Heights Station is still one of the most used stations on the line. The profitability of the train and the growth and success of the Village of Arlington Heights have always been closely linked. William Dunton sold part of his land in Arlington Heights to the entice the train line to come to Arlington Heights and help ensure the future of Arlington Heights. The train brought many people to the village to settle. People found the train a convenient way to live in the suburbs and still work in Chicago. Close to 200 years later this is still the case. With the Chicago Bears moving to Arlington Heights, the train will become even more important to the success of both the village and the football team.

The not so great - parking can be tricky and fill up fast, can be tricky to figure out ticketing and there isn't always an employee onsite, can be dirty. There's access to plenty of other trains. Best thing is the convenience. It serves the Green and Pink Lines. The station is pretty clean for the most part. Above ground so it has the cleaner air. This is also located next to Ogilvie Transportation Center, so you can get on Metra and change systems. Has good things about it. It's one of the better stations. There's usually trains coming pretty often weekdays and even weekends.

The ramp from the mezzanine level where you get your fares and enter the station up to the train level is freaking long. If one doesn't have a motorized chair or a person pushing them, they're going to be exhausted by the time they get up if they can. It's honestly astonishing to me that CTA can't create an elevator from mezzanine to train level--and I'm confident there isn't one that I missed. Otherwise it's a CTA station, not much frill here. It's the final inbound station before officially entering the Loop stops. I wish that there was an interior connection of sorts from Ogilvie to this station, so that when I take Metra I can get to the station without having to exit into the weather whatever it may be. Honestly I can't believe that the RTA hasn't figured it out yet; pretty annoying. (Unless I'm an idiot and just haven't found the secret connector.)

I have taken the Empire Builder before and it was always nerve wracking to try to make the early morning departure, that is, if it was on time. Sadly, the Borealis is much like the Empire Builder in that you can't count on it being on time, despite having fewer stops. That makes connecting to another train a lot more difficult. So we ended up missing the BNSF train we had hoped to take and only just barely caught the next one an hour later. It was nice to have wifi on the Borealis though it was a bit weak for some purposes. Cafe car food on both trains is the same, adequate, but nothing special. The few times I have been able to use the dining car on the Empire Builder were better experiences, restaurant quality and good service. Another difference between the trains is the lower level seats on the Empire Builder- these are a bit more roomy and comfortable. I will likely take these trains again, but with realistic expectations. If you have a whole family heading to the Chicago suburbs, it is probably more economical and less hassle to drive. A single person or a couple heading to downtown Chicago for the weekend would be better off taking Amtrak, especially if you have someone who can pick you up at Union Station.

It may seem that I should have simply stayed at the hotel at O'Hare, but blah, there is nothing to do out there. I'd much rather be in the city. Anyway, back to the story, I used the Metra to get to the conference. It is easy and smooth. I could relax, work, read or better yet, Yelp! while on the train. I have been told that you are allowed to bring alcohol on the train and drink while riding... I don't know if you are 'allowed' or nobody cares to care if you drink on the train. If anyone has an official ruling on this, please let me know...

I really like this Metra station and not for any Metra travel because every year Franklin Park has…read moreRailroad days and the station and area turns into a festival. There is a carnival, massive sound stage, beer tent, train displays, swap meet, food vendors, model railroad layout and miniature train rides. The station fills with rail fans of all ages to watch the trains with all real life rail operations cutting right through the festival. The fest last about a week but on one Saturday there is a line up of real trains/cars that you can walk on and walk through. Metra always a locomotive on display that the adults and children can walk through and sit at the controls for pictures. Metra and the village really put on a nice festival for a great family outing which is usually in early June. I will also stop by when the festival is not going on when in the area to do some Rail fanning because it is the lead into the big rail yard with lots of action.

My only negative with this station or just metra is my train came 8 minutes early and it didn't stay at the station until the scheduled time. Wtf?

Although I love Metra (comfort, reliability, QUIET CARS), what the CTA has going for it is ease. I can take this single conveyance from Cumberland to the Loop and walk a block to my workplace, as opposed to when I take Metra. There's a parking garage at Cumberland so you can park and ride. The cost of taking the CTA, even with the much higher parking rate ($6, and Metra only costs $2) is about the same or maybe a couple bucks cheaper. The station is a bit run down. I'm not sure if I'll feel comfortable taking it in a few weeks when the time change happens since the parking garage is dark and the station area itself is under construction and a bit dank as well. But I'm glad to have multiple options for getting to work.

I have been a Member of Eagle Rider for a few years now. Originally I joined so that I could get…read morean idea of what type of motorcycle I enjoyed riding before I just went off and purchased one. I do a lot of research before I purchase large ticket items and I thought that by having a lot of different rental options I could narrow my new motorcycle purchase down. The reason I still have not purchased a motorcycle is that the service at my local Eagle Rider Facility has been exceptional. Danny Brown, the manager, has always been exceptional with his communication. If he can accommodate a last minute rental request he will do what he can to assist. If my first choice is not available he will work to get me something to ride. With that said all of the Eagle Rider Rentals are top quality newer model bikes. The service rep on the phone was rude and I feel that their rental practices are discriminative to people with insurance. Although my insurance would FULLY cover me and their motorcycle, I would have to leave a $3,000 security deposit. Something you don't do on car rentals. However, I paid for their insurance and still had to authorize a $1,000 deposit which I was told would be released within 24 hours after returning the bike. I arrived on time but the bike I reserved was not prepped or ready. Because the battery would not hold a charge, I had to ride a different model - neither of my first or 2nd choices. I returned the bike at 3 pm (their hours on Sunday are until 4 pm) yet no one was around to check in my bike. Two days later and the deposit still has not been released. The service rep was also very rude. My first reservation was done online, but my credit card was charged 4 times! It took several days for this to get resolved, but it did get resolved. They all seem to have an attitude that is "if you don't like it go somewhere else" which is not the way I would run a business!
