I take the metra 1-3x/ week and appreciate being able to use the restroom, get some water, and wait in an air conditioned room while waiting for the train. That being said, the women's restroom is very poorly maintained. I'm here almost everyday, it's become like my second home. And this home could use some sprucing up. The positives - they have bathrooms, accessible, and central location. The not so great - parking can be tricky and fill up fast, can be tricky to figure out ticketing and there isn't always an employee onsite, can be dirty. Lovely visit at Big Timber Metra stop on a train ride into Union Station for a day trip in downtown Chicago. Station was clean and so were the train cars both directions. North very busy when we boarded at 10:20 AM. Pleasant ride for us. read more

This station is pretty A-OK, its strengths are also its weaknesses. It's the juncture of a couple of train likes (Metra and Amtrak) and a number of local bus routes. So this makes the location good. It also makes the location confusing. Getting off an Amtrak train making a bus connection, you have to be a little lucky to figure out where to go in 5 minutes. 15 minutes is a better connection time if it's possible, otherwise you have to scout it out ahead of time. Signs are a little sparse, and there aren't many helpful people (grumpy and rushed to get to or get home from work). The Metra trains stopping here aren't scheduled well, they are often standing room only and that's uncomfortable with a coffee, newspaper and briefcase. I suppose most of you don't know what I mean about a "newspaper." It's like a primitive tablet that is made from big sheets of paper and only has actual news on it without Facebook. It's hard to hold on a moving train with a coffee and briefcase. Never mind about that, the Amtrak trains are crowded and mainly scheduled for people living in the suburbs coming into the city for work and going back home. Parking is really awful, there just isn't reasonable parking available in terms of the number of spaces or price. Bicycles aren't allowed on the trains, the trains aren't really set up for bicycles to be brought on board. There isn't a designated Uber/Lyft area and I haven't had good experiences with the taxis in this area. Uber/Lyft drivers can find you here, that's your best bet if you can't make a bus connection work. read more

I had to ride the train to Naperville for about 45 consecutive weekdays from December of 2014 to February 2015. I almost always took the 8:30 PM train home and waited in this station (unless I needed a good, stiff drink and I went to Orazio, across the parking lot). I'm giving this place five stars just for being open late, especially on the sub-zero nights when the wind was whipping across the plains. Not every Metra station in a nice neighborhood stays open at night and on weekends (Yeah, I'm looking at you, Arlington Heights! Somebody had to say it!) It's a comfortable place with the classic wooden benches you might expect, and clean bathrooms. In fact, I was there so often that I made friends with the cleaning crew, which came in every evening about that time. They were friendly and let me practice my poor Spanish at no extra charge. And if you're there in January after it's snowed, and they arrive, don't be one of those people who doesn't lift their feet when the crew is trying to mop up the 1/2 inch of salt on the tile, OK? They're just trying to put a little comida on the table and zapatos on their kids' feet. read more

Very unfriendly ticket agent on the 7:47 a.m. train. Over-repetitive and condescending tone about having tickets ready on the mobile app. I opt for other trains where the conductors are friendly, seem to like their job, and don't disturb the peace. read more

Dear Route 59 Metra Station, It's not me, it's YOU. Naperville has the nicest Metra Station. I've rode the train to Union Station out of a handful of stations. None of them were as nice as Naperville. It's no wonder there is a crazy waiting list for permit parking here (last I heard it was six years). There is a large, enclosed waiting area, with bathrooms that are unlocked even if a ticket agent isn't on duty. Bathrooms are always locked at other stations like Route 59 and Hanover Park. It also was heated, or felt like it was. Although a ticket agent is not on duty on Saturdays, there is an ATM and an Amtrak ticket kiosk inside. I saw about four large benches inside, so there is lots of room to sit and wait. Parking is free after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends. I don't know who determines whether or not parking is free on weekends, because it definitely wasn't last time I rode the train from Hanover Park. I always gripe about Naperville: entitled teenagers bred by entitled adults traipsing around downtown Naperville like they own the place. A parent of a local Naperville football player recently went to Twitter to tell the Aurora parents to "bring their food stamps to dine in downtown Naperville," prior to a playoff football game, and that is the kind of attitude that some people brought into the Naperville Metra Station on a Saturday morning: aloof, entitled, pushy - a small girl knocked into my side and the parent just ushered her along. If you're anything like me, Naperville and other "wealthy" suburbs might irk you, but I've got to admit that they have the best Metra Station. Route 59, I think it's over between us. read more

Whenever I have to take the train I aim for the 8:00 AM express train! I love how it gets you to the city by 8:30 AM which is perfect timing for a 9 to 5! They hiked up the prices since I was last here so the $6.50 one way price seems a little outrageous for a daily commute. Definitely buy your tickets at the station or it's a $3 up charge... ~crazyyyy~ and if you plan on doing the daily commute buy a monthly pass! Station is nice and cleanly but ticket people are a little slow which is an inconvenience if you're in a rush! 8 AM train is always full and has people standing so plan accordingly when you take an express train! read more

I love this station! It is very clean, and it has the homey feeling of a train station. The Metra trains also always come on time. Whenever I come home or go back to Chicago, I love coming to this Metra station. A few tips: the ticket window does not open on weekend, so you buy tickets on train instead. They will not charge you extra; don't worry. read more

Neat station. Runs efficiently and super close to the downtown area. Usually has a lot of local (metra) and cross contry (amtrak) trains running through it. Parking is charged by the day and they will check daily if you haven't paid. There's also a few pace busses for connections to thr rest of the town but be sure to check the day since some only run on weekdays. This place sees a LOT of commuter traffic. read more

This station sucks for commuters. I get extremely stressed every morning worrying about daily fee parking. If you get to this station after 6:45 am you are pretty much f****** for parking. Nevermind if you don't need to be at work until 9 am, you will get there are 7:45 am and opening your building. There are pace buses to take you to and from the station, but they leave less than two minutes after the train comes in from the OPPOSITE side of the station. This is theoretically great (getting home earlier) but if you are someone who barely gets on the train at Union, then you won't be in the right car on the train to get over to the bus fast enough. read more

This station is barely adequate for Naperville commuters. It may be quaint but it is too small and lacks amenities that most modern stations have. Seating consists of a few church pews so most people have to stand while waiting for trains. It is extremely crowded, especially on cold days. Coffee or snacks are provided by a food truck that parks outside. The restrooms are tiny. The platform is too short, especially east of the station. Express trains to Chicago are jammed and people often end up standing. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy we have a train station, but I think we could do better with regard to services for commuters. read more

Not very clean. The Metra ticket clerk is never there, so you always have to buy on the train if you don't have a pass or buy online. The daily-fee parking is ridiculous. Much of it is pretty far away in lots that you wouldn't even realize are for the train, with unclear signage. 13 year waitlist for permit parking, even though many permit holders rarely use their pass. Should be first come first serve so that actual commuters get priority. Buses don't work for my schedule. Expect more from Naperville of all places, this is not the best they could do. read more
