She accused us of lying after telling her we just found the dog yesterday in the area. then she proceeded to say that people who pick up strays usually give 72hours for owners to find their pet. We don't have 72hours, we can't afford to keep a dog & feed him. We saw the dog alone last evening & picked up the dog on our way home, all we were trying to do was the right thing by picking up a dog that needed help & placing him somewhere in the area so the owners can find him easier (we don't live in the area, just moved Washington). She was rude, had an attitude, & just overly disrespectful. I understand if you deal with a lot of pepole coming in lying & but don't sit here & accuse everyone of the same thing. Hiii I don't want to have to make this post but I got a dog from there months ago and the experience was great but the dog I got there ended up having fleas that didn't seem to be treated. I went to the vet got him and my senior cat treated and then cleaned my house. But they recently came back and I've been struggling to deal with them. read more

I adopted my dog Fitz here about a year ago and couldn't be happier with him. Fitz seemed to have had a pleasant 4-month or so stay at this shelter. Thank you Metro! I wasn't given barely any backstory on Fitz's life before I brought him home. This would have been helpful because Fitz is aggressive with vets and has to be muzzled and sedated to get his required shots and checkups. read more

I adopted my cat from here 6 years ago. I adopted my dog from here 3 months ago. The staff and volunteers truly love each animal that comes through that shelter. The enclosures are clean. The staff spend time with the animals to where they actually get to know the personalities of the animals. These babies are going through a traumatic time and these people love on them through it. They did not get annoyed with me (or at least didn't show it lol) when I visited my dog almost every day during the waiting period (had to wait for her to be spayed before she could come home). If you're not in a place to adopt, support this shelter! They are doing it right! read more

My wife called yesterday after being referred to them by our vet and asked if they accepted donations for leashes, harnesses and dog beds. She was told yes and to just leave them on the bench outside. We are moving soon and have a lot of brand new or slightly used dog stuff that our pups grew too big for or never even used and wanted to give it to a worthy cause. We loaded up her car this morning and she just attempted to drop the stuff off. Upon arriving minutes ago she was accosted outside and blamed for dropping off a dog yesterday. My wife was obviously not the person in question but does happen to share the same ethnicity, supposedly . My wife just called me in tears trying to explain what happened. Safe to say this racist organization will not receive any donations from us and I warn any persons of color to stay away from them! We are moving to another state, thankfully, but I am saddened by what this area has become!! read more

Yesterday, my fiance and I, upon seeing a Facebook post about a senior blue merle Australian Shepherd seeking a home who had just become available for adoption, rushed down to Puyallup to meet him A sweet, old guy, with pretty blue eyes, I wanted him immediately. My fiance, however, demured wanting us to take 24 hours before deciding. I received a message just now from Metro Animal Services in Puyallup informing us that , 'Peter,' the senior blue merle in their care, was just adopted by someone else. Ironically, I received the message upon picking up the phone to call THEM, to tell them my fiance and I had talked it through, thought about it overnight, and together decided WE wanted to adopt him. While I am sad he won't be joining our pack, I am thrilled that he is going to a good home and that he won't be spending another night in the shelter. I am also touched that despite how busy they are, the shelter took the time to call and let me know, so I wouldn't worry. I very much appreciate this kind and thoughtful gesture. The place was spotless. The dogs well cared for. The staff clearly care about the animals there. Again, sad Peter won't come to live with us, but thrilled with my experience overall. read more

I brought in my kitten to surrender and they talk down on me and charged me for an adult cat surrender instead of a kitten. If you are a colored person, do not go to this place. Clean facility with friendly staff. Came on day looking for a cat and was greeted when I walked in. They showed me to the room and I walked around looking the different cats while asking a volunteer a bunch of questions about their services and experiences with cats. I did not find anyone that day, but they kept my paperwork on file. Came in another day and found "the one." They had me fill out the paperwork and let me know what my adoption fees covers. Very informative staff and exciting for me and my new family member. Only thing I can complain about is the hours as it makes it harder to adopt when they close at 5 (I live in Puyallup and work an hour north). read more

I feel compelled to write a review about my first experience here today. I wanted to make a contribution to an animal shelter this year because I'm an animal lover at heart and want to do my part in helping homeless animals in some way. I do not give monetary donations due to my own skepticism so I buy toys, food, bedding, when I'm able and bring those items to local animal shelters. This was my first time donating here so I called first to get their hours and drop off location and my first impression was a lasting one. For the animals sake ONLY, I decided to make a donation here anyhow and when I walked into the lobby a lady was holding a lost dog she found that was matted, dirty, hungry, and in need of somewhere to go instead of the streets. I thought it was a thoughtful gesture that a lady and her daughter went out of their way to save this poor dog's life and bring him/her to safety at Metro Animal Shelter. Unfortunately, this is the response she got: Where did you find this dog? And where you found the dog is out of our county so you need to take "it" to the Tacoma Shelter where they have more room and most likely the owners will be able to locate it. REALLY??? If Metro Animal really cared for this poor dog they would have graciously accepted the dog, showed some gratitude to this lady for being a good samaritan and bringing the dog to them, and then arranged transport of the dog to Tacoma THEMSELVES! But instead they gave the address to the lady and sent her on her way with this helpless pup. If METRO ANIMAL SHELTER wants to TRULY make a difference in helping homeless or lost animals in the community, BE ENCOURAGING and ACCEPTING of help from the public-DON'T TURN PEOPLE AWAY who help an animal AND make your job easier! I went here after having a bad experience at the Human Society in Tacoma. I wanted a MALE cat. The paperwork said this one cat was male but then come to find out it is female and pregnant. So we move onto other cats. My 5 year old found a black and white cat and fell in love. I asked to make sure the car was a male because the lady said male but the paperwork said female. She looked and couldn't tell as this cat had longish fluffy fur. An animal control officer was asked to come in and check and after a few minutes decided this cat was a neutered male. I said alright we will take him and paid the $115.00 (crazy about for a shelter I know) and took the cat home. This cat meowed ALL NIGHT LONG and then into the next day. Not a soft meow but a loud, long meow. I told myself this was because he was new and scared. I had a thought in the background that this sounds like a female cat in heat. Now after 2 days of meowing the cat is gone. Not hiding, G-O-N-E! My Mom said don't worry she will come back in a few days to a week. I said, "SHE"? My Mom looked at me and laughed saying, "Yes, she. What do you think all of that meowing was about? You got a female cat that was in heat." I called and reported the cat "missing" and was told they will keep an eye out. Now I am out $115.00 and a cat. They said I could bring the cat back and get my money back less the $25 for the microchip. Well if she had not run away I would. Now I am just so pissed. I mean really? They don't have an actual vet to check over the animals and VERIFY males and females? This cat had really nasty dirty ears that I had to clean the best I could. I was given the name of 2 vets I could take the cat to to have a evaluation. If they had done this BEFORE putting animals up for adoption I would not be in this spot. What do I do now? read more
