I used ChatGPT along with Yelp to guide me to Metro Bistro. Made reservations at 8:00 pm which is early for Madrid. Sat down with my wife for our anniversary for one hour before the next patron was seated. Fruit flies were plentiful and the service was average at best along with no air conditioning! Not sure our waitress had any interest in the presentation of our $50 Euro per person tasting menu along w $25 Euro per person wine pairing. She was bored at best w the presentation of each pairing. The food was average and not close to the rating's online. After we left maybe 4 tables were full at 10:30. My gut tells me ( and facts are) this place has not had any good reviews in years and gone down considerably. Felt as if the Chef moved on and the next guy can't replicate??? One of the best meals of my 8 day trip to Spain & Portugal! My friend met me in Madrid for the first night and we ended up at Metro Bistro after I found they have a 36 euro tasting menu. We love those. Everything we had was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was excellent and they even checked with us to make sure the pacing was to our liking. I highly recommend metro bistro because of their €39.5 7 course tasting menu. We started off with this incredible pumpkin soup with a strong cheese. although I don't remember exactly what dishes we had. I remember a mushroom truffle dish, ceviche, seafood 'sandwich', 2 desserts and a lamb dish. The way they present and explain their courses is incredible and truly would be a Michelin star experience. I'm actually happy it's not Michelin cause their tasting menu is very reasonably priced and gives anyone a great experience at an affordable price. 10/10 read more

Excellent experience with super friendly service and delicious food. We, like others, were hesitant because this is a tourist area, but just loved this restaurant so much. First, one of my friends had stomach problems today and she mentioned it to them and they made her a special tea and served her a pumpkin soup off menu which was delicious and along with their potatoes (which are worthy of the raves others gave them) perfectly sated her. Along with the potatoes and soup which we shared, we tried the hummus and the black rice risotto with scallops - might have been best dish I've eaten here with a light saffron cream and the nutty flavorful rice making me so happy. They also served a bread service and a dark bread that was infused with orange and slightest taste of coffee with their special butters just hit the spot. Dinner consisted of an aperitif made with white wine vermouth, orange juice and a touch of burnt sugar. Then an assortment of breads and butter - one with green olives and another with pumpkin seeds and herbs. Goat cheese salad with baby greens and with candied figs and fig balsamic, 65° poached egg with mushrooms, grilled butter fish in ponzu soy reduction and stew lamb with truffled root vegetable purée. This is not just a meal, but an experience! I highly recommend skipping the tourist trap restaurants on Plaza Mayor and walking 30 seconds to get to this place. The food was amazing and ambience is very cool. Chic and modern decor and presentation. I did not get this, but a couple a table away from me got their 7 course tasting menu and it looked as if it were more than worth the 40 euro price tag. The weekend before Christmas my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Metro Bistro. The food and service were outstanding and memorable. She ordered the Bacalao (Cod Casserole) and has been thinking about it ever since. She tried duplicating it for a New Year's Eve dinner party and although her dish was good, she said it didn't come close to the outstanding meal she enjoyed at Metro Bistro. The staff was great. We were so impressed with the service, especially so since there was a large party of 30 in the main part of the restaurant and our service was perfect. We recommended Metro Bistro to a fellow American and, being alone in the city the evening before returning to the states, and when we met him the next day at the airport he said Metro Bistro was the perfect place to relax at a bar "high top" and enjoy a wonderful meal (gigot/lamb) and catch up on text/emails. Great location. Great food. Great staff. AND very reasonable prices. Go to Metro Bistro early during your stay because you will definitely want to return before you leave Madrid. This is by far my favorite spot in Madrid so far. I spent two weeks here exploring the city with the family and tried a number of places. This place definitely stands out. Its central location next to Plaza Mayor made me suspicious, by now I got used to touristy Madrid places full of cold cuts and cheap sangria but Yelp pictures looked good and the menu sounded intriguing. Our experience was simply delightful. From amuse bouch to the very last bite, the meal was pure perfection. This quality of food rarely comes without too much pretense. This place is an exception: despite culinary excellence and innovative menu, it offers very friendly service, the staff was great to my folks who don't speak the language and to my kids. Come to think of it, most places with this quality of food don't appreciate having children at the table :-). My kids had a great time. The most memorable dish was the egg we ordered as an appetizer, a perfectly cooked 65-degree egg came with a variety of textures and flavors ranging from perfectly smooth parsnip purée to crunchy trumpet mushrooms. The dish smelled like forrest mushrooms and the egg was perfectly runny. We ate it so fast I unfortunately don't have a picture to share. Everyone at the table ordered something different: scallops, lamb, steak, beef tartare, suckling pig... Everything came out perfect. The pig came with a bit of food theater too; when they lift the dome that covers the plate, a puff of intensely smoky 'bacony' steam hits your nose and welcomes you to the dish. Pig skin was super thin and crunchy, and the meat was melting in my mouth. Everything was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. We shared our dishes because we wanted other people to appreciate how great everything tasted and it was hard to describe. We ate and enjoyed every last bite even though we were extremely full by the end of dinner, the food is quite filling. Steak is a great option for kids who are picky eaters, it's the most conventional item on the menu and comes with a small skillet of cheesy potatoes, very satisfying. We ate the fried leeks that came as a garnish and kids enjoyed the rest. Next time I am in the city, I am leaving the kids at home going for the chef's menu. Absolutely fantastic find! read more

After Barcelona, Córdoba, Granada, & Seville, the best meal I've had so far in Spain has been here. We started with the fire shrimp & garlic mushroom appetizer which started our excellent meal off well. The shrimp were cooked perfectly & there were plenty of mushrooms & garlic slices. The scallop main course was wonderful, slightly smoky flavored grilled over black rice risotto. The second main dish ordered was the butterfish which was presented with pickled vegetables (seaweed) & a wonderful ponzu sauce. It had a slight Asian quality & the fish was cooked perfectly. The flavors were unique and delicious, the presentation was well-done and creative, and the service was incredible with friendly servers who were knowledgeable about both the food and beverages. OMG, what can I say that has not already been said by other Yelp reviews. After a day of sightseeing with my family, we were looking for a non-touristy, excellent restaurant for dinner. We googled top restaurants, and Metro Bistro came up. I only give 5 stars when the food is extraordinarily, when I've never experienced the likes of it before. 5 stars means there is an element of creativity to the cuisine that makes the meal not only excellent to taste but interesting as well. All aspects of the meal, with the exception of the dessert, met that standard. The drinks, the appetizers, the entrees all made me say, "wow, I've never experienced this before." Others adequately describe specifics from the menu; I'm just adding my reaction to the meal. Finally, the ambiance is modern and sophisticated. The service was friendly, warm, and unpretentious. First night in a non traditional restaurant and our experience was more than fantastic. We love the vibe in the restaurant since we walked in. Be sure to make a reservation if you don't wanna come back around 11:30pm to have dinner (we found 2 great seats at the bar and were very lucky) the service is extremely amazing, the staff explains each dish as they come,something you don't experience much anymore. They also have a great wine selection. We didn't make it to dessert because we were too full. Prices were a touch on the more expensive side; but very good for being in the center of Madrid. So disappointed. Went for lunch and they put you in the bar - even though only 2 couples in there at prime lunch time. Started OK. The Salmorejo is amazing. Best I've ever had. Then downhill. Hummus was bitter and stiff. Poached egg over trumpet mushrooms was ok but the egg was barely poached (whites not set at all) - not my favorite and a bit off-putting. Real disappointment were the entrees. I had the chicken with sesame sauce since I love Spanish chickens. The sauce was cloyingly sweet and tasted more of vanilla than anything which made the dish sweet rather than savory. My husband had the suckling pig. For the lunch crowd (I'm assuming since pictures looked much different) I think they take leftovers and compress them into a brick to resemble a cut of meat and add crispy skin to the top. Might have been ok except then they use a smoking gun and cloche then after the "reveal" they completely douse it in an faux-smoked broth. More flare than anything.
