This place is amazing and a gem! My fiancée and I found this spot not knowing what to expect. We were getting used to tapas but then Ástor brings a completely new level to the game! Delicious appetizers, unbelievably tasty entrees, smooth wine, and outstanding dessert. Service can't be better! We miss this place so much!

Here I am once more to the #1 restaurant in town. It's truly a hidden gem. Bit of my joy of visiting Madrid is the excitement of being able to go to Astor. This time I got the bocadillo de jamón, another one of bacalao and iberico de bellota ham. This guy's ham is ridiculously good. I proceeded to have the corvina and the Argentinian steak. I usually don't get fish as main but the waitress suggested it to try. I am so glad Raquel suggested it because it was one of the highlights of the night. So I continued with some more fish... the fried ceviche. OmG. Best! For dessert I got the cheesecake and it was fantastic as well. What can I say... once again and forever, Astor got my love. Thanks Astor!

Phenomenal find. This gem of a spot is on a tiny side street, tucked away in a charming and intimate manner, just as the inside also is charming and romantic. We had the best service that we have had in all of Madrid and probably all of Spain, including Madrid and Seville. The food was outstanding, full of delicious surprises and luxurious flavors. We had the rib-eye, the steak special, the Astor salad, tintos de veranos, and a local red wine. We also were treated to house special samples of the mozzarella croquettes and dessert drink and they were simple scrumptious. This place was recommended to us by an out of the country family member, and we will recommend to everyone we know! Again, truly perfect service, atmosphere, and tastes!

this is a lovely little restaurant w such a charming ambiance and great service. there are intentionally only 8 tables inside to maintain that intimate attentive atmosphere. we didn't have a reservation but luckily someone was a no show and we were able to be seated despite its name, the char siu was not bbq but a braised pork belly dish, very reminiscent of dong po rou for any of my chinese food lovers out there. we were also given cheese croquettes and amaretto sours on the house which were lovely. the beet hummus was my dad's favorite but i overall found the food to be a little too mild for my palette

I ordered the beet hummus, half order of the cod croquettes, and the salmon tartar. Everything was very good- including the service. I would definitely make a reservation prior to coming though.

Lovely and cozy little restaurant hidden in a little street in the center of the city. This place was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The service was great and the food amazing. We had the Beet Hummus and Cod Fish Croquettes as appetisers and both were very tasty. As a main course, I had the Argentinian tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly as per my request. And my partner had the salmon (which he allowed me to taste hehehe) and it was a delight. The salmon was also perfectly cooked which was great because I really dislike it when it's overcooked. So two thumbs up to the chef for mastering the art of cooking.

I'll add my voices to the others here: this was perhaps the best overall meal my wife and I had in Madrid... And that's saying something. Extraordinary service during the lunch hour on a Sunday, with friendly and interesting servers. Pretty ideal ambiance, with a lovely sprig of herbs added to our placemats. They even offered us an entirely complimentary plate of cheese and digestif per person, just because. The food itself was standout: generous portion of beetroot hummus, along with beautifully presented leek empanadas, fresh ceviche, and tagliatelle with gorgeous shavings of truffle and parmesan. I mean, seriously. Go eat here.

The ambience and decor was superb. The waiters were so friendly and attentive. We started off with the Spanish cheese platter, bread and an appetizer on the house. We also had the Mushroom risotto. The steak was seasoned well just had a few to many fatty pieces. All in all it's an amazing restaurant. Would definitely recommend.

The food here was stupendous and wine is very affordable. We bought a bottle of Merlot (per chef's recommendations) for 19E. I am subtracting a star because the interior was uncomfortably hot. They have a fan that blows but I could hardly feel it. I was sweating inside the restaurant but luckily the food made up for the experience. They only have one wine menu so it was awkward having to wait for another table to finish with it before we received it. The portions here were way larger than I expected. For 3 people, we got 3 entrees, 1 bottle of wine and 3 appetizers and ended up paying around 30E each person. I thought this was very fair. We didn't finish our entrees so we were able to take it home (they wrapped it in foil in fun shapes) for lunch the next day. We tried beet hummus, Asian-inspired octopus and Jamon Iberico croquettes with a pea puree on the side. The waiter was sweet and asked us "what's wrong" when he saw that we weren't eating our entree (due to us being too full from our large appetizers). For entrees we had the mushroom risotto, skirt steak with chimichurri sauce (which was surprisingly not green colored as I thought they normally were), and the truffle pasta (that had actual truffle on top!). I was shocked by how fair the truffle pasta price was considering there were actual pieces of truffle on top. We received a lemon-y shot of alcohol for free at the end of the meal.

In one word - perfect. The best dining experience you can get in Madrid. Make sure to reserve at least a week in advance!

What I ordered: I got the toast with tomato spread, a cappuccino, and the chocolate cake. For the toast, they have two vintage toasters sitting on the main table so you can toast it yourself. This is cute, until you aren't the one at the main table so you have to reach over other people to toast your breakfast. The cake was a perfect amount of density and moisture; although, I would probably get a different flavor if I could do it over. A lot of people do chocolate cake a lot better than this. I do appreciate that they have all the cakes on a table and cut it right in front of you. Would I go back to this place? Honestly no because my experience wasn't overwhelmingly great and I think I could do better at other cafes nearby, but the quality of food here is simply top-notch.

Be sure to make a reservation because the restaurant is quaint--besides a communal table that seats around ten, I think I only saw a small bar space and two individual tables. The decor is modern, simple yet funky and homey, and the tables in front of the windows are beautiful! The menu includes several options where you can pick the number of side dishes and entree, so you can completely design your meal around your appetite. The ingredients tasted super fresh, and we especially loved the salads we tried! My friend was a little disappointed that his ceviche portion was so small, but it tasted great, and I loved the Asian-inspired chicken. Service was also pretty good, by Madrid standards. On my next visit to Madrid, I will be back to try the breakfast and baked goods :)

When we left at 12:45 PM, every table was filled with a few patrons waiting to sit/stand. When you get in, have some people grab a seat while one person goes to the front to order. Their tortillas are sold by the piece, which is one sixth of a giant circular frittata. They also sell croquettes in pairs and there's a discount for getting 8. Most patrons got the original, which is egg + potato. We tried the Brie, which was a crowd pleaser. Cheesy and eggy, with bites of cooked potato for texture. Also, got a goat cheese + caramelized onion one that was more goat cheese than onion. Would sub this one out if I come back. Got 4 jamon and 4 carrilerra (cheeks) croquettes. I thought they were medium sized based on the other Madrid croquettes we had. All croquettes we had on this trip were great, and these were certainly on par. I can see why Pez Tortilla is so popular with many locations. It's a hearty meal at a very affordable price.
