I had chicken & waffles with strawberry butter. She had chicken with mashed potato & green beans. The food was delicious as I knew it would be. You really want to have good experiences when you go out to eat. Parking is so convenient at the door. The food was great, the restaurant was bright, busy & clean, the waitress, Meredith, was new & spent extra attention to details in providing excellent service, taking time to explain the menu & make suggestions when asked. I went here based on some of the reviews and I wanted to check it out. We went there on a Sunday. The place was pretty empty. This should have been a warning. I should have left. I went against my gut. I decided to try the shrimp and grits. Having had it in the south, I think this was rather lackluster. It was very runny and not seasoned. They were generous with the shrimp but they were small and not seasoned. The service here was also terrible to boot. The place was nearly empty, and they only had one waitress working. It seemed like the chicken and waffles was popular, but I saw people there drowning the whole thing in syrup. It looked like the road to the fat farm. I would give this place a pass, and judging from the emptiness of the place I don't think they will be here long. read more

Starting with atmosphere: Walking into the restaurant on a Sunday at around 12:30, i could see it was crowded but i was still able to be seated within 2-4 minutes. I am guessing this was a typical Sunday afternoon/post church rush. This place is small (it is part of a strip mall and the tables are packed pretty tightly, but not uncomfortably so. That said, between the small size and all the families there, it was loud. I was not bothered by the noise, but it bordered on raucous. So, if you wanted a quiet place to sit and look into your date's eyes, this may not be the place for you. Luckily that is not my issue. The staff were tremendously friendly. Everyone from the person who sat me, to my server, to the three other employees who stopped by to make sure everything was good and handled refills, etc. seemed genuinely concerned about making sure I had a good experience. That brings me to the food. It was breakfast food (i ordered the western omelet). My bread was perfectly toasted the way I like (lightly toasted; If you prefer your bread well done you may want to let your server know first). Home fries were cooked quite well. Just the right balance of firmness without being overly crispy. And the omelette itself was well executed. I will say that the western omelet had a little more salsa than i expected on top but that's not a complaint. It was my first time there and I didn't expect it to have so much. Which leads me to the next point: portion size is great. The omelette, home fries and bread took up my whole plate. If you want to be filled, come here. Price was reasonable: a little over 20 bucks for the omelette, which came with home fries and bread, as well as a coffee and large orange juice. Overall, i was satisfied and I will return. read more

Omg! I'm sold! I was not a believer in Chicken and Waffles. Either the chicken was nasty or the waffle was nasty. A good spot outside of the large shopping centers. It is a wonderful location to get those comfort dishes. From chicken and waffles to pot pie and meatloaf they have something that hits the spot. My absolute favorite is their protein breakfast which I have both meats as bacon and scrambled eggs. They always are friendly and fast. Been here before for breakfast and still remember the chicken and biscuit being 4 eye rolls, foodgasm for sure. Figured since I was here at lunch I would try a burger. It was nice anc juicy, cooked correctly (medium) was juicy and flavorful I did not like the seasoning on the fries, overdone and way to salty, did not see that anywhere on the menu but I asked and you can get without, Note to self Service by a cheerful (being sarcastic) but very polite young man. read more

I'm a regular visitor from Wales, UK, as I have a long distance partner in the US. Every time I come to Delaware, we eat at Metro at least once- The food is delicious! I especially love the pancakes, whichever flavour I get. This time, we've been to Metro multiple times and have had the same server each visit by chance! I had a disappointing experience with an out-of-town guest at Metro Diner today. We arrived and it took a few minutes to be seated. The server came and took our beverage order. The coffee and tea arrived, but we were not given utensils; by the time we flagged her down, the drinks were lukewarm. She took our order (pancakes for one of us and French toast for the other). When she delivered the food, we had to ask for syrup. She disappeared and we finally asked another employee for syrup. The food was awful. The pancakes were overdone - it was hard to cut them even with a knife. They were not light and fluffy as the menu said. My guests french toast was better but not great. The server disappeared and never came back to check if we needed more coffee or hot water for tea. When she did finally arrive with the check she disappeared again. We finally waked to the young man at what we thought was the checkout counter...he had to search out the server, because she had to do the check. He brought it back to us to be signed. He was most helpful! We never did see our server again. Based on the quality of the food and service, I will not be returning to Metro Diner. read more

Went Saturday morning for breakfast. We were greeted so well! This hostess was so sweet and kind. I observed her be the same for everyone that entered and exited. I had the avocado BLT without the B. It was delicious and fresh, as was the hash browns, crispy like I like them. My daughter had the croissant French toast (there were leftovers!) and cheesiest grits. I would literally pass by this diner few times per month and always wondered about it. Finally, I stopped by with my family after walking 9 miles at Longwood Gardens. Surprisingly, we weren't famished, but tired and cold. The service was extremely good, friendly and hospitable employees, and quick service. We ordered western omelette, southwest scrambles, avocado bacon scrambles, bissell platter, and apple cinnamon bread pudding. I have to say everything was very delicious, especially the scrambles. We also loved the apple cinnamon bread pudding! Apparently in the warmer weather they have blueberry lemon bread pudding, this tells me I have to come back! read more

The quality of the food was great, but the quality of the service was absolutely top notch. Better than we see when we go out to very posh restaurants. Fast service (it was a slower day for us), friendly staff, and really good food. I came for the avocado toast and wasn't disappointed. Well worth the price, and the portion sizes scream JERSEY! I got full off the toast and ordered soup(very salty soup no less). Keisha, our waitress was so kind and accommodating. She made helpful suggestions and refilled our coffee promptly. I should have listened to her telling me to just get more toast. Anyway, I could ABSOLUTELY see how this dinner could be an issue for crowd control but c'mon. I got a cheesesteak to go. It was $11.99 and came with a side. I got the onion rings. There was a good amount of onion rings. I don't know what kind of roll itl was. It was a long roll. I liked the roll. It seemed a little undercooked and maybe a little like Cuban bread. The meat was good but definitely needed more meat. I don't remember tasting cheese but I saw it in the video. It came with fried onions and peppers and they really added flavor to this cheesesteak. This is not a very traditional cheesesteak but it had a decent amount and good flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by this diner. It was extremely clean, social distancing of the tables was appropriate. The servers were very friendly and the kitchen is open so you can view the cooks working. The food was really good and better than your typical "diner" food. My dining companions got eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it with hashbrowns, another had the waffle with fresh fruit and whipped cream, and the other got chicken fingers and French fries. The chicken fingers were white meat, but moist and the breading was crisp and tasty. The side of coleslaw was not great and wouldn't recommend it. The fries had a seasoned salt on them that was really good. I got the cinnamon roll pancakes and it did not disappoint. I'd definitely get them again and it was a decent sized portion as well. Apparently this diner is a chain so I can't speak to all locations but this one I'd definitely recommend, even during covid. read more

I had enjoyed Metro Diner years ago in Jacksonville, FL, and was very stoked when they opened in Wilmington. I was itching for a chance to check them out, and my daughters seventh birthday provided the ideal opportunity. We made a reservation on a rainy Saturday morning, dining under the cover of the patio. The service was exceptional and we couldn't have had a better time. The menu is diverse and fabulous, nailing all the staples while at the same time providing a few special and cool choices. In Jacksonville I had the famous chicken and waffles, but that was a bit too much for me to tackle and enjoy this time. The kids loved their pancakes, and I thought the steak & eggs bowl was fantastic. Everything was flavorful and quick, the coffee was plentiful and hot and tasty, and we had a great time. What wasn't fine, however, was the fact that nearly every other table was too dirty to even sit - Dirty plates were even left at two tables. So we took a seat outside. And then we waited. And waited. After about ten minutes a server appeared to clear a nearby table, greeting us & promising to return in one minute. After another ten minutes without menus, water or anything, we walked out. After being floored with our first visit, we decided to make a return trip to try their fried chicken. We were quickly seated and served, and even though we came on an off-time, the restaurant was still bustling. I decided to order their fried chicken platter. My plate was piled high with their delicious chicken and mashed potatoes. My girlfriend decided to get the pot roast again and found her mashed potatoes too cold. Our waitress immediately took the plate back, and their manager came out to apologize and correct the problem. Normally, I would rate a place with less stars after having to send a plate back, but the service was just absolutely exceptional. Their manager (Alberto) was adamant about making sure that the issue was resolved to our satisfaction and was the main reason why our visit was so exceptional. read more

Decent diner. I believe it's new in it's location as I think the strip mall is new but it seems like it may be an established business that moved from another location. Went there for dinner, my salmon entree was good. My dad ordered a club sandwich but only wanted Turkey on it instead of all of the meats offered. Our server seemed to have some issue understanding what my dad wanted which was strange and I know it frustrated him. Another weird thing was when dessert was offered, the server asked "do you want dessert?" My dad asked what was on the dessert menu and the server said "pecan pie, we only have pecan pie." She then offered to have a waffle made with ice cream when the pie was turned down. I wouldn't go back for dinner but I'd like to try breakfast. read more
