It's been over a year since I was last in the area. I was hungry for a solid diner breakfast and headed straight here. Walked in and it felt like I was just here yesterday. The massive dessert case greeted me, brimming with colorful delicious-looking pastries, cakes, and pies. I was seated promptly and handed menus which included their specials of the day; everything from lasagna to moussaka to stuffed peppers to barbecue ribs. My waitress, Dee, came over to ask for my drink and went away with my order. She appeared again quickly with my coffee, which was hot, and honestly - better than the standard cup of coffee in most places. Mmmm As I waited for my order I couldn't help but notice how happy their patrons are. It's 1:30pm on a weekday so I see a lot of people who look like retirees, along with a smattering younger diners and some folks in work uniforms. A couple was leaving and stopped to have a friendly conversation with one of the people who worked there. It's obvious they've known each other for a while, regulars. A table over starting singing "Happy Birthday" to their friend. The 70's and 80's songs were enjoyable without curbing conversation. My food came out faster than expected and was piping hot. Toast options are white, wheat, or rye. I requested it dry as I don't want it slathered with margarine or something unidentifiable. It came dry but they included two mini containers of real butter with it. Heaven! Dee came over and checked on me in a bit, offered me more coffee. More yum. Mmmm. Total cost for a Florentine omelette (spinach and feta cheese), a whole lot of home fried potatoes, two slices of toasted bread with real butter and jelly, coffee, and a comfortable friendly atmosphere: $14.45. I couldn't finish it and took about 1/3 of the plate home for later. I have no idea why they're not between 4-5 stars for a diner. Food is solid, coffee is fresh and hot, service is quick and friendly. I think they're worth every penny. read more

Strike 1: I would've liked to give this diner four stars, but a few things were off-putting. When the host seated us at a booth, the cash tip from the party that came before us was still on the table. So when our server came to our table she noticed it, stretched over us and grabbed it, grumbling to herself. I guess she was annoyed that it was still there but the least she could've done is say excuse me, or pardon me. It was awkward and kind of rude. Strike 2: What was I thinking, daring to ask the server a question about something on the menu. Her attitude and answer made it clear that she couldn't be bothered to answer. Redeeming quality 1: The food was pretty good. I had a buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries and a side of blue cheese dip which was decent. The fries seemed hand-cut which is a plus. My son had a cheesesteak sandwich he enjoyed and my husband had a California burger (I think) that he really liked. Quality 2: The cake and dessert selection goes pretty deep! The food was not good at all. I ordered eggs. They were ok. I had scrapple that came out over cooked. I sent it back and it came out better, but it didn't taste good. I sent it back and asked for bacon. The bacon wasn't good. Their home fries were mashed Potatoes and they fried them. Not good. I didn't eat much of my food. I left it. My apple juice was good. We had a group of approximately 35 walk in on them after a baseball game ... they were extremely accommodating, set tables together so we all could eat together ... the food was hot fresh and surprisingly fast. I had a ny strip cooked medium well with Brussels Sprouts. Cook perfectly and the Brussels sprouts were tender . My son wanted chocolate chips pancakes with sausage. We had 14 different bills and the handled it professionally and with expertise.... And the desserts .... Wow ... so was the coffee ... just great !!!! Don't pass this one up ... The diner is sizable with a nice atmosphere. The entrance and waiting area is a nice size also. The dessert counter is nice as well. We stopped in for breakfast. The parking lot and most tables were full. We waited maybe 5 minutes to be seated. The diner was extremely busy, the kitchen was a little backed up, but they worked it out. We ordered eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, cream chipped beef, toast, English muffin, and coffee. Everything came out piping hot and cooked as requested (to perfection). The server had many tables and managed to provide good service. If ever in the area again I will sure stop by to have a meal. read more

Brandywine Diner did an excellent job tonight, catering our Christmas Dinner at home for our large group! They did delicious roast turkey with stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce, together with a nice ham with pineapple sauce - both were carved as we requested. This place was an extremely welcome respite after a long work week and driving for two hours through one of the worst thunderstorms of our lives. At that point, my girlfriend and I were looking for comfort food and Brandywine Diner delivered in an upscale (for a diner) setting. It was busy on a Friday night, but we didn't have to wait for a table. Even if we weren't pre-traumatized, the friendly staff and amazing smells would have been a balm to us. We took a cursory look at the large menu and went with our comfort food favorites. She had an open-faced Monte Cristo sandwich (served with maple syrup), basically a turkey & ham sandwich on slightly sweet French toast. I had a turkey Reuben. Both sandwiches arrived quickly and were served with amazing battered fries, a tiny cup of tasty coleslaw, and a crispy crunchy half-sour pickle. The turkey was not cold cuts but the real deal. Delicious and satisfying. We had to force ourselves to stop halfway and save the rest for breakfast, because of course we wanted to save room for dessert. On the server's recommendation, she had carrot cake, and I ordered a coconut custard pie. The carrot cake was enormous and delightful- not too sweet and the cake & frosting paired up perfectly. The pie was like a coconut flan in a crust, eggy and delicious. Had to bag up half the cake as well. Can't think of a better diner experience! Our server was so sweet and didn't make us feel rushed. And even the cashier called us sweetheart and seemed happy to see us. One thing of note - you can pay with a credit card but they strongly prefer cash tips for staff. Despite the fairly low reviews, I decided to give Brandywine Diner a chance for breakfast due to the nearby hotel I was staying at not having a breakfast option. I ordered the Two Egg Meal (scrambled) with Corned Beef Hash. I immediately realized my toast was missing and I was so disappointed in both the presentation and flavor of the meal. The eggs were your standard dinner scrambled quality (unseasoned, textureless) but what really caught me off guard was the corned beef hash. It looked like it had been plopped straight out of a container into my to go box, and was very unappealing too look at. The hash browns were also flavorless and seemed a bit watered down somehow. The only area I will give a star to is that the quantity of food was pretty good for the price. Overall, I would not recommend breakfast here. Even though the restaurant seemed packed on a Saturday morning, it was definitely not to my standards (especially for such a basic and easy breakfast to master!) Put in online order for the Crab Cake Dinner. I've had it before, know it is delicious and plenty for your money. It comes with soup or salad, I like their Chicken Florentine soup which they make on Fridays so I wanted that, the "THREE" loaded, huge crabcakes, baked potato and coleslaw(my husband said it was the best he's had in a while). I like that the menu online is current for each day and went in specifically for the CF soup and crab cakes! I noticed the Friday menu said that soup (CF or CC), but when I went to put the order through, it just said soup. The other was a clam chowder. I put the order through and then called to ask them to make sure it was the chicken Florentine. When my husband went to pick it up, the girl that gave it to him said, the one with the chicken Florentine right?! It was steaming hot when he got home (about 12 min away) It was packed very carefully, all separate containers, a separate bag with wrapped plastic ware, napkins, salt, pepper. We shared the meal and it was more than plenty. Worth every penny. Love the variety of this place, the fresh food, the prices. Yea for N. Wilm for having this place. read more

We went here in 2022 while traveling with our youth group. I had a seafood dish and was satisfied as was our entire group. The waitress was very friendly and talked with us while she made sure we had everything we needed. At the end of the meal she told us the bill had been taken care of. She paid our bill which was probably more than she would have made all night. I don't know what moved her we had a few kids who did have much money because it was the end of our trip but no one told her. I will never forget this experience. read more

First of all the staff was amazing. I stayed at the hotel across the street and went there the night before and came back for a slice of pie. Our waitress Jasmine was outstanding as we were the last to come and leave but she made us feel so welcome and the next morning I came back for a slice of their pie before we left and the manager was absolutely the same! (I hate that I didn't ask for his name). Wonderful service and will definitely be back. Second, the food. I expect food from diners to be great and brandywine diner exceeded my expectations. My friend and I had a late lunch at Brandywine Diner yesterday. The service was great and we really liked our sandwiches. I had the New York Panini, and she had the Texas Grill. Both were really good, but her hoagie roll came apart as soon as she tried to pick it up, so she had to eat it with a fork. My panini was great, and so were the fries and coleslaw (really good slaw - I wish they gave you more than a few bites!). The roast beef on both of our sandwiches was a tad dry, but not too much so. We visited Brandywine Diner with a group of friends on a late Friday night. The restaurant was not busy but we ended up getting assigned one of the most unpleasant servers which eventually led to a very disappointing dining experience. The first odd thing we noted was that the basket of bread that was brought out looked like it was "reused", bread that other customers may have had but left seemingly untouched so they decided to serve it to our table. We noticed that there were already knife marks in the bread and that the bread also already came buttered inside. Oh well, not a big deal, we just decided to not eat the bread. During the dinner service, I had ordered a Chicken Parm entree (something that comes with soup) along with the rest of the group as well. Salads came out for those who also ordered entrees but my soup was not brought out at the same time. Typically I'm used to salads and soups coming out at the same time for guests but I thought maybe this place could have been different and it may come out with my meal. Quite some time has passed as the other people at the table have already finished the salad and the server came back to collect the dishes. After about another 10 minutes, the server comes back with the entrees for the entire table. She announces to the table "I have everyone's food here except for the gluten free toast and the side of eggs". I noticed my dish was not included on the tray or in her verbal announcement of the things missing. At that time, I asked the waitress, "Do you know if the chicken parm is being made yet because if it is not made, can you just cancel the order?" The waitress responds, yes, it is already being made and it'll be out in a minute. At this point, one of the other people also mentioned that I had a soup with my order and she says ok. She brings the soup out but entree doesn't come out for about another 15 minutes. By this time, mostly everyone is done eating and she finally brings it out with attitude and no acknowledgement of the delay. I left my entree untouched as I was upset that I don't think she was being truthful about the timing of the entree. As we were about to leave and had asked for the check, she finally asked me why I left the chicken parm untouched. At this time, I asked about the reason the soup was not brought out with the salads. She said just a simple mistake. I then asked about why she said she had everyone's food but didn't acknowledge mine was still being cooked. She said just a simple mistake. I can understand simple mistakes, they happen. What I can't stand is someone lying to me about the situation. My dish was clearly not "almost done" when I had asked about it. In the end, she asked if I would like to have the chicken parm removed from the check. I agreed and she took the chicken parm back to the kitchen, possibly to serve to the next guest that orders it. They removed the chicken parm from the check but did not even have the courtesy to remove the charge of the soup that normally comes with the meal. No check in from the management staff there or acknowledgement of the situation as well was also disappointing. Simple mistakes are ok, blatantly lying to customers should not be. At least I won't be making the simple mistake of visiting Brandywine diner again. read more

I stopped overnight in Wilmington while traveling and the Diner was walking distance from my hotel room so thought I'd give it a try. It's a very large restaurant with a diner vibe and a large varied menu with a lot of Greek selections. They also serve breakfast all day and offer a couple daily specials. They have a delicious looking baked goods section...I was full and didn't try anything but I was tempted, the pastries looked fabulous! I was there on a Saturday night about 7:30pm. There were other diners but not many. I ordered a Grecian Pita Sandwich, it came out very quickly, which normally is a good thing but I wish they'd taken a minute to warm it up.... the menu said "grilled" so I assumed it would be hot but it was served room temperature. Note the grill marks, I guess the pitas were grilled at some point but not tonight. Having said that, it was quite tasty as were the french fries and the cold slaw. The staff was very nice and attentive. The prices were a bit high, the sandwich was around $25 with tea and a tip. Also there was a slight musty smell that I often notice in older restaurants.... might be time for some new carpet and upholstery? Would I go back if I were in town again? Maybe but only because it's so convenient to the hotel and I do strive to support small local businesses over the national chains. read more

We were at a dance weekend at the Doubletree across the street so we had several occasions to check out this highly-reccommended diner. For a light dinner our first night we ordered the Spanakopita and a entree-sized Chef's Salad. My wife loved her Spanakopita but thought the puff pastry was a bit greasy. My salad was simply amazing: crisp greens piled high with superb quality roast-beef, turkey and ham, topped with thin hard-boiled egg slices. There was a short wait the next day for lunch, during which time my wife scoped out the stunning variety of desserts on display. In lieu of an entree she opted for a huge slice of coconut cream pie. I was über-hungry and decided to try a classic Gyro; it was exactly as you'd expect and very good, but not quite up to what you'd get from a cart on Madison Avenue in NYC. The Tzatziki sauce was a bit bland as was the shawarma meat. However they more than made up for it with the crispy fries. Wow. A super-creamy black-and-white milkshake was the perfect accompaniment to the spicy shawarma meat and as you can see from the picture it was truly a work of art. In summary: fantastic food at very reasonable prices; significantly less that what diners in NJ or PA generally charge. read more

We popped in here for a salad, after eating rich fried seafood for lunch in Ocean City MD. We both ordered the Cobb salad which were HUGE! Both were loaded with grilled chicken. The dressings tasted homemade (not sure if they were). Also ordered a side of fries... how can you not at a Diner? The service was friendly and great, the restaurant very clean and the dessert case was beyond amazing. I did not have room for dessert but sure wish I had. read more

This diner is EXACTLY what we needed right in Wilmington! We went for dinner to just check it out and it did not disappoint. For a diner, their food was FABULOUS. There were a few of us and we got a bunch of different options to try and didn't even come close to getting a full sampling of the menu. Our server, Danielle was amazing as well. She told us all about the chefs, their history, their in-house baker who makes all of the desserts for them and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. If I could give them (and her) 10 stars, I would! I cannot wait to come back here for breakfast and try that part of their menu. But well done to this new diner! I eat breakfast at The Brandywine fairly often and find the meal pretty decent. I always walk by the desert counter and everything looks amazing. I recently decided to purchase a couple of deserts to go. Well, I found out that they are not as good as they appear. They look perfect in the display but when I got home and started to eat them, I found out that they were dry and hard when they should have been light & flakey. This was a pleasant surprise and a needed addition to the route 202 corridor. When you walk in you are immediately met by the large baked goods case on display. I should have requested a seat right there. First impression was a clean, bright and airy reminiscent of the classic Jersey diner. Entrees were burgers, tuna sandwich and I get pancakes and eggs. Everyone liked their sandwiches very much. The pancakes were just okay. Not as light as I like. Service was very friendly and very efficient. Prices made this a good value for what you get.
