Came here on Friday and we waited a while for a table for six. But once we were seated the servers took good care of us. The menu seems to be more geared for comfort food and I probably erred when I ordered a spinach salad with shrimp. The dressing was okay, a bit different; however, I found the crumbled bacon and candies nuts too hard and I was afraid I was going to crack a tooth eating it. An insult to call this place a diner, been here 3 times once for eat in and twice for take out and every time the service is unbelievably slow. The staff here almost pretends not to work here and everyone is constantly on break. I ordered take-out over the phone and when I got there they lost the order and they said I had to wait 20 more minutes for my order even though the person who placed the order read it back to me and gave me a price. I ordered take out over the phone before this and they said 20 mins, I come in and wait an extra 15 mins as I watch 3 people ignore my order that's been sitting on the heat lamps. Also, I get home and open up soggy hashbrowns even though I asked for crispy hashbrowns knowing from before that they barely cook em. This would've been somewhat understandable if the place was busy but it was completely dead. The full menu is the size of a kid's menu. It's one of those menus you have to read 30 times because everything sounds bad. The food overall is forgettable, I would compare it to hospital cafeteria style. read more

I've been to Metro Diner's in the South and I feel like they've all been consistent no matter where I go. I got the Bissell Breakfast. 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuits, and pancakes. Super filling and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. I def was stuffed and had some leftover. One of the friends I went with had the chicken and waffles, which if you don't know, at Metro Diner is half of a chicken (breast, wing, leg, and thigh) with a waffle topped with strawberry butter and served with hot sauce+syrup mixed. I know of others who have had it and never heard a bad thing about it. My other friend originally got the shrimp and grits type meal they have, but said that it really had no flavor. She returned it and opted for a Bissell Breakfast but with French toast instead of pancakes. I feel like the Bissell breakfast is always a safe bet because it's your standard breakfast, nothing too crazy. I always recommend Metro Diner to anyone that lives near one for a reasonably priced, filling breakfast. read more

This is the second time I've visited Metro Diner in North Wilmington. The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly and inviting. Once we had our seats, I noticed that the menu had been significantly slimmed down from when we first visited. The selection consists of the usual popular cuisine ( burgers, salads, chicken and a nice breakfast menu). Our waitress, Keirstin, was very pleasant and attentive- giving us ample time to select. You could tell she enjoyed her job and working with the customers. A bright and infectious attitude. The food was fantastic, a improvement over the previous visit. Was skeptical about trying this as it hasn't been open that long. We were seated promptly but could tell it was starting to get a crowd. Our server was very nice and I wish I remembered her name because she stood out. She was helpful with the menu. My wife had gotten the thanksgiving special which was a waffle made out of stuffing with mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy with cranberry sauce. It was a large portion. I opted for cinnamon swirl pancakes with a side of sausage and side of grits. Pancakes were good as was the sausage. I'm no expert on grits but they seemed bland and a little runny to me but that could be how they Are supposed to be. We were in Nashville a month ago and had a different experience with grits. The service was efficient and quick. Random other people walked by and asked if everything was ok. This is a testament to management. They clearly opened with experienced employees of the chain there to oversee any new ones and that kept everything flowing. Food did not take long at all. Portions for our meal was big and price point of $10-12 it was a good value. This will keep them busy for sure. The only positive thing I can say is that the host who sat us was very pleasant. The food on the other hand was probably the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant. Every part of my meal was awful. I ordered two eggs( over medium), Canadian bacon, rye toast(well done) and home fries. The whites were completely undercooked and snotty . My home fries were small fossilized squares of I guess potato at some point. The rye wasn't even toasted and the Canadian bacon was so hard to chew and I'm not the only one who received completely undercooked eggs either because I heard a man in another booth complaining to the waitress about his being undercooked as well. Why ask me how I want my eggs cooked if you're gonna give me whatever you feel like making? Never again read more

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this place. The food is excellent and they have a wide variety of lunch and breakfast foods. I ordered the western omelet which was incredible with hash browns, home fries, and white toast which had the perfect crispiness to them. Our server Jordan was amazingly friendly and outgoing. The overall look and feel of the place has a nice, calming color scheme of green and cocoa. Our server came to our table just after we sat down, got our drinks, took our order, and the food was on our table literally less than 10 minutes after we sat down. Had the most phenomenal experience at metro diner! Hands down the best food I've had in Delaware thus far. (We're from Texas and have been here for about a month) My boyfriend and I had amazing service and the manager, I believe his name was Alberto, was so fantastic! Very friendly and even offered us a discount for our patience while waiting for our meals to come out. I ordered the fried chicken And waffles (mouthwatering), the batter is made to perfection! It's got the most delectable flavor, the perfect crisp, very little grease and the chicken is moist and had such a fresh flavor. I was definitely satisfied and it's a decent helping. This was the third time, I visited the metro diner and was disappointed. against my better judgment I decided to solicit this business again on Father's Day! Were seated promptly, at outside dining area which was probably mistake number one because our waitress didn't even know we were there. she stated I forgot to check this table! as a result, we waited more than 15 to 20 before a waitress even took our water drinks or coffee order, and we waited 20 more minutes before the waitress came back to take our main course order. Our food was served in 43 minutes ( it was breakfast food not dinner food), The food arrived with hard cooked eggs, lumpy over cooked grits, the sausage and toast arrived 5 minutes after the main meal. I couldn't even finish 1/8 of the breakfast . And I just finished a "FAST" so I was hungry. The hot sauce condiment bottle had mold inside the bottle (Picture below), and the salt shaker had debris mixed in the salt. The coffee mug had lipstick already on the cup! When the waitress returned she took the items we complained about and brought fresh items to the table and apologized for the oversight huh??? We are still in a pandemic. Haven't Metro Managers learned anything about sanitation and safe serve food service ? Our communities are still dealing with pandemic issues. This place needs to better micromanage safe service, time management of hospitality, and address the unsanitary issues immediately . After requesting to speak with the manager and waiting for over 15 minutes, I had to proceed to the hostess station to request the manager again! he finally comes out of the kitchen to address my concerns. My goal was to offer suggestions of how they could improve. Metro diner offers employment to many hard-working Americans. You owe it to them to improve. I tipped the waitress because this was management fault not hers. I just would like to see this business, that's in my community, Cleanup it's act. read more

I went to the Metro Diner on Concord Pike a few months back and had an experience that was not as good as it could have been. The food, while good, was not sufficiently good to make me want to return for what was really bad service (wrong order, had to ask for silverware, took a long time). But I thought I'd give them a second chance​, so went back to the diner for lunch today. We had to wait a short while for a table and now, in retrospect, should have taken the server up on her offer to sit at the counter. I feel as though we would have had better service there. But nooo... we waited for a table. A server, who was sure to tell us he wasn't really our server, but noticed we had been seated for a while (good for him, at least) came over to take our order. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my friend ordered chicken fingers, with a side a fries and he also wanted some of the sweet and spicy sauce. The meals took perhaps a little longer than expected to arrive. While waiting, I took the opportunity to ask for​ some silverware, since it seemed we would not get them before the meals arrived. When the​ food did come, the fries were not delivered, nor was the sweet and spicy sauce that is supposed to be standard with my meal, and that my friend had specifically asked for. The manager did come by to check on us and when told of the missing items, he was willing and eager to make things right. Unfortunately, for me, it was too late. I really wanted to like the Metro Diner because​ I enjoyed the food, but sadly, I will probably not visit again​. read more

We had a marvelous first-time experience for lunch on a Wednesday at the Metro Diner on Concord Pike - just South of the PA state line. Our server Eddie was terrific and later the manager, Isaac, came over to see how things were. (Everything was great - believe it or not.) One of us is vegetarian (not vegan so eggs are OK, this is not a vegan place - lots of eggs and dairy) and she had a veggie wrap (huge - took 1/2 home) with Avocado and the "usual" suspects but also with FRIED JALAPENOS - inside the wrap. Wow. I had a "trying to cut carbs" eggs Benedict so - no English muffin and plain steamed spinach instead of potatoes. $13.29 (no tax, baby, we're in DE). I went with one of my dads to Fathers Day breakfast here. It is a very serviceable breakfast place, one notch above the other diners in the North Wilmington area. We both got the standard breakfast fare (eggs, toast, bacon, hashbrowns). It was nothing to write home about but it was expected, tasty breakfast food. Consistently good food at a good price and great service. Fried chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy, I've never left hungry. When it says 'cheesiest grits' on the menu, they mean it. It can get busy, especially on the weekend, so go at off times. There often seems to be a line, but often try are doordash people waiting for orders. One thing that sets this apart from a typical diner is that it's clean. Nice restrooms, no sticky tables, your drink is always full. It may take more than 10 minutes to get your order, and I assume that's because the fried chicken isn't pre made and put under a heat lamp, but it's worth it. read more

This is the second Metro location I have been to, the other one being in Orlando. It was a great experience. We went at an off time, about 2PM on a weekday for a late lunch. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and my wife had a chicken salad croissant. Both were cooked or prepared perfectly! I should have taken pics. The waitress was attentive but not pushy and they were providing great service to the entire establishment. The entire place was clean, including the bathrooms. This is how it is done! read more

I have been to a couple of Metro Diners in Florida and have been to the one on Ogletown-Stanton Rd in DE and all of those experiences were much better and more consistent than this location. My wife, who is gluten free, and I went to this location on a Sunday morning knowing the consistency and gluten free friendliness of previous Metro trips, expecting the same here. My wife ordered Huevos Rancheros on gluten free toast instead of chips and no fried jalapeños to make the dish GF and I orderd the special which was a Chorizo Cheeseburger Benedict. At previous Metro Diners when you say you're gluten free, they are extra sensitive to that allergy and when they have a special, I've learned if it sounds good to you, you should order it. Unfortunately, in both cases this did not happen at this Metro location. While the huevos did come out on GF bread, it was topped with fried jalapeños, which contaminated the whole dish. Due to the time it had been taking, my wife opted to attempt to remove the fried jalapeños. The biggest disappointment was with the special dish that was ordered. I ordered the Chorizo Cheeseburger Benedict with hashbrowns topped with the works. Unfortunately, my dish didn't come out for 15 minutes after everyone else received the meal. When the dish finally came out, it came with regular hashbrowns and not with the works. On top of that, it didn't come with chorizo, it came with mini beef burgers which was not explained by the wait staff. Also, when the hashbrowns with the works finally came out, the top was burnt and there were no jalapeños. While there were multiple mistakes made, there were still opportunities to make things right. The waiter was extremely apologetic and attentive. When the manager came over he asked how everything was, I shared my experience and instead of apologizing and offering to comp coffee or some simple gesture, he just said well you got the last special so you should consider yourself lucky. While I don't expect free anything because I'm happy to pay for what I ordered, I at least expected some gesture or apology from the management team. Overall, the food was good but not up to par with other locations and we were just left disappointed with the staff, mainly the kitchen and the manager. While this experience has not turned us off from Metro Diner in general, we will probably think twice before we come to this location ever again. read more

Went there for lunch with a couple of friends. Very cute atmosphere wait staff was friendly and efficient. The diner inside is cute and clean. I had a large cheeseburger sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon and tomato it was amazing! It was also absolutely huge so you're either going to be bringing half of it home or make sure you order with a friend. We ordered the cream chipped beef with a side of scrapple and all American burger. All of the food was really good. We will be coming back. read more

Went here for the first time on 3/22/2019 and it was great! I had the fruity waffle with a side of bacon and my friend had the French toast with a side of home fries. Everything was delicious and service was fast even though there was a short wait. Very friendly people, well lit, and cozy feeling. We just waited a SOLID hour for pot roast and a salad. We walked out with still no meal on the horizon. NO establishment is worth a wait this long. Love coming to the Metro café for breakfast, lunch is great also but watch out for the lunch rush. The lunchtime wait can be from 10-20mins for a table. If you can try the counter for no wait. This is by far , the best diner in town. The staff is great, attentive, and efficient. Their food is awesome and literally is out in no more than 10 minutes. The best part about this diner is the manager, Alberto. Every time we've been here, I've seen him make it a priority to visit every table and make sure that every guest is happy. With his amazing hospitality, he makes you feel like you're dining with a restaurant filled with family and not just a regular guest. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars I absolutely would!! If you're gluten free due to celiac I wouldn't go here. They have a gluten free menu but all food served is cross-contaminated. My husband has celiac, we've eaten here twice and both times he ordered a gluten free omelette and their gluten free toast and was sick before leaving. Also their "omelettes" aren't omelettes is like egg in an egg cooker then they just top it with whatever would normally go *in* an omelette so it's like deconstructed and not a real omelette. But yeah, if you're actually sensitive to gluten I would avoid this place. read more
