I hired this company to redo a shower stall. Because they were already going to be doing concrete…read morework in the shower stall, I pointed out two, small, hand-sized areas of concrete that needed patching on my balcony. The owner Chris, said he would not charge me because it was negligible. I was happy that they were a good faith company who wouldn't nickel and dime me. Boy, I turned out to be wrong on that! Their work in the shower was just alright. It required a second pass to fix some lines that were not quite straight and they offered to fix it. The shower was substantially less work than initially scoped. The estimate was for a much larger job than needed to be done to fix the shower. I expected to get a discount on the initial estimate. Chris discounted me $200. I agree to pay him the full estimate minus $200 for services not rendered in the initial estimate. After the job is complete, Chris suddenly springs me with an additional charge of $100. He wants to charge me for the balcony patches, which were two child's hand-sized areas. This was quite irritating because not only did they not have to do as much of a job on the shower as they initially thought, but he was going to flip-flop on his initial word that he wouldn't charge me for patching the balcony concrete. He began harassing me via e-mail, using adjectives like "ridiculous" and questioning my character. This was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. Within a couple of emails he began threatening to take out a lien on my property. That sounded odd to me, like he was bullying and on an anger trip rather than negotiating like a regular contractor. A lien on my property for a dispute over $100? Sounded unreasonable. I would have gladly paid the $100 if he had been honest with the charge up-front, or if he had sent me a change order in writing saying that the balcony patching would take more effort and he wanted to charge for the balcony. It was neither. The patches were tiny and he did much less work in the shower than he initially expected to have to do. It seemed like he was extorting me for additional money after the work was complete because he felt he could get away with threatening me, or because he didn't really like the fact that he had to do a second pass on the shower floor to get it right. I began talking to my condo building manager about this contractor. I learned that he fired one of his workers who was known for doing outstanding work on bathrooms, then threatened him physically if he ever worked on remodeling any of our building units. In short, this guy is trouble. Like the other reviewer also noted, he changes price quotes in the middle of a job or after the job is done, and gets nasty and short-tempered. There are a ton of contractors out there, save yourself a headache.

No explanation for why no one reached out to us after Warren left or why we were sold stair runners and LVP if they weren't compatible (which isn't true). Finally had to go to corporate to get someone to take this seriously. Now all of a sudden we *can* have stair runners but someone has to come measure, order them, then schedule a separate installation. No apology, no explanation for what happened or who dropped the ball. I would never work with this company again and we are still trying to unravel what happened with our installation. No accountability, no apology, just Mike offering lame excuses about how he, the director of operations, has no idea what's going on.

However, once they got my signature and deposit it was like pulling teeth to the get the actual project scheduled. I'm also a long distance owner, coordinating the project. So it's especially hard not being in the state. I even flew to VA to chat with them but they ghosted me. Apparently only the owner of the company, Rafael, can only schedule projects on Fridays but he's not available most Fridays to chat. Not the person you start the project with. She can't schedule projects. I really regret going with FKBD for the project. I especially regret it because I paid a premium for the labor, and decided to go with this company vs another younger, cheaper company (VA Creative Renovations - Chris is great - check them out) because I thought they would be on top of the project and get it done quickly and get it done well. Apparently not. There was a lack of follow through and communication. When I did ask for timing and submitted my tile choices with Susan, who was my project manager, she had to call over to Rafael, then he'd call me all grumpy for interrupting his day. Seems like there's a control issue. Then when the project was supposed to start there was an issue with the tile I originally chose, even though I had submitted my design choices weeks prior. They said there was a delay with the tile and they had to change the project start date. Meanwhile I'm trying to coordinate with my tenants. Luckily they are the nicest tenants anyone can ask for. All in all they did a great job on my bathroom - eventually. You just need to be really on top of them.

A crew came out Jan 24th, "completed" the job in 1 day. Tiles were terrible cut, grout was cracking and falling out, trim was barely hanging on. Horrendous job. After much back and forth, they finally came out 5 weeks to fix their terrible work. I was told they would come out to do the work and it would take 1-2 days. It ended up taking them a week, Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday, to re-do the job. Some days were no call no shows, leaving us with plywood from the base construction of the building as our kitchen floors for that week. The job is still not completed as there are still areas of the flooring unfinished. Absolutely terrible work, and even worse customer experience. Would not recommend to anyone looking to have any kind of work done.

But the worst part of the job was the quality of work. See the pictures and decide for yourself. They actually used chipped tile. To top it off they used some type of grout protectant and didn't cover my wooden floor. Now I have white residue in between the wooden planks and their shoe sole prints too. I couldn't even get them to clean up their handy work in the driveway. I had to hire a cleaning company to undue the damage. I definitely wouldn't recommend this company to a friend or anyone else. We purchased Kohler rain shower plus hand-held and tub mechanism with all necessary valves from Fergussons. We kept our reclining Kohler tub with side st.steele handles. We needed to tear out and replace all prior tiles due to leak, and wet uninsulated walls around tub. Mr. Buendia and his team planned out the job, gave us a reasonable estimate, told us from when to when the job was going to be done, emailed us job proposal, we agreed and signed contract, and the the job started. They covered floors and stairs to prevent any damage, while we made sure they had access to an empty bathroom. In the middle of job we discovered that we needed to reinstall 'all walls, which we did not know when we started. Mr. Buendia and I went to the Tile store on Eisenhower Ave., and we chose together a tile that would fit and look great, and align with remaining ceramic floor. The team worked in coordinated way, and the end result is truly terrific! We are very satisfied and very much recommend Mr. Buendia's team to others. Prior to this job we had also hired Mr. Buendia for other jobs, redoing siding and trim on a townhouse, replacing basement foor with tile, replacing ceiling tiles with a true ceiling, painting, installing storm doors. Each time, we always received work proposal, reasonable cost estimate, and the work has always been excellent.
