Absolutely Perfect I wish I could give more than 5 stars for this review. I wrote about Essam and his team a year ago when they did a superb job renovating my bathrooms. They also repaired some outside lighting and took care of a few other minor house problems (interior door wouldn't close) we've struggled with for years. Today we had a flood in our house and about 30 gallons of water ended up in our ceiling. Not only was that horrible but it threatened our hardwood floors. Essam doesn't specialize in emergency repairs but one call from me and he was here within minutes. He drained the water, opened the ceiling so as to prevent mold, cleaned up the mess from the cracked ceiling and protected my hardwood. I worked with Essam and his crew on a kitchen renovation and bathroom build. I am very impressed with his professionalism, quality of work and attention to detail. I get into the details of the renovation and Essam by far was the easiest to work with. He was open to suggestions and he chose quality materials. I just used Essam and his team to repair and update by front porch and also do some repairs to my garage. They did a wonderful job! It included adding new front stairs, vinyl railings, and painting the porch floor and columns. I had an issue with my linoleum flooring curling up at the base of the tubs in my two bathrooms. I received several quotes through Yelp and Essam's quote was comparable to others (250 dollars). I chose him based on other Yelp reviews and I was very pleased with the work. Essam was responsive through Yelp and providing a quote. Once I asked him to do the work, we set up a phone call where he explained how he was going to fix the flooring. He did require a 100 dollar deposit which I was easily able to transfer to him through Zelle, and he quickly put me on his schedule. He arrived within the two hour window (between 9 and 11) he provided and the work was completed to my satisfaction. Essam was professional, the work was as described, and the transaction was smooth. I hired Essam and his team to complete a number of large projects in my new home. They did a fantastic time. First, I asked them to paint my entire three-bedroom townhouse in a lot of different colors. Essam was able to coordinate picking up the gallons and gallons of paint, which was very professional of him. The paint job they did is perfection. The edges are clean, they did not paint on the ceiling or the trim and the paint looks very smooth. They also got it down very quickly! Next, I asked Essam to build a whole pantry for me. This silly townhouse did not come with a pantry and I am a big baker, so I really needed one. It looks amazing. They had to frame it out, add walls and trim, paint it, and add a door. I'm telling you, it looks like it came with the house. I also asked Essam to redo my sad little basement. It came with carpet and was pretty boring. He had to pull up all the carpet, install brand new ceramic floor planks, add trim and paint the trim. The tricky part was that the builders had put a weird little area of wood by the entrance and in the half bath, so he also had to pull up the wood and remove the bathroom toilet and sink to install the ceramic planks. It looks completely original. My neighbors are going to be so jealous. ;) Finally, Essam made a great recommendation to switch out my terrible ceiling lights because they stuck out from the ceiling. He recommended some flat lights that don't protrude or look ugly and now I can also dim them. He also removed two ceiling lights, per my request, and installed my pretty chandelier, which looks so much better now. He also had an electrician install a ceiling fan and a new outlet, which really improves functionality. I also asked him to hang multiple pictures and he made sure they were secure and reinforced (for the big one) and perfectly straight. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Essam and his team. One thing that really struck me with him was that his top priority was doing the work right. Not nit-picking the prices if there was a problem, but making sure to fix it and make sure it was quality work. I was amazed at his professionalism and his dedication to his craft. I can't recommend Essam and On Duty Handyman highly enough!. I owned a townhouse that needed to be renovated for sale and had only a few days to work on finding a contractor & getting things in motion before flying back to my home in Florida. After interviewing a Kitchen & Bath modeling company, I interviewed Essam, who was MUCH more knowledgeable than the other guy, and who could renovate the kitchen, all the baths, and various odd things, and paint the whole house for the same price the K&B guy was quoting for just the kitchen! Essam drove me to Home Depot, where we selected all the materials, with his very good advice, and ordered all the stainless steel appliances. He retiled the kitchen and bathroom floors, refurbished countertops, changed out light fixtures, vanities, toilets, doorknobs, painted the whole house, stained & refinished the deck -- there isn't anything he couldn't do or any problem that he couldn't solve -- and it was a 34-year-old house! I love his "Can Do" attitude, professionalism, integrity, and fairness in pricing. I found him completely trustworthy (I was in Florida the whole time!). The house was so fabulous that it sold three days after being put on the market, for higher than the asking price! After seeing the positive reviews here, I called On Duty Handyman today to replace a garbage disposal and a broken light switch. I was expecting to schedule and appointment for later in the week, but instead was able to get a same day appointment during a time frame that was most convenient for me. After sending photos of the two items I needed replaced, I promptly got a fair estimate, confirmed the appointment, and had the repair done. While replacing the garbage disposal, the handyman noticed I had had a leak in the past, so he thoroughly checked the pipes to make sure there was no longer a leak and gave me advice for what to watch for. When the work I requested was done, I mentioned what I thought was another minor problem that I wasn't ready to have repaired. He took a look at the issue and gave me an estimate for that repair for when I'm ready to have it done, all without any pressure to schedule a time for that repair. The only cons would be the time it took to do the job (more than a couple hours like I had anticipated) and scheduling. Essam and his team recently completed finishing our basement and we couldn't be happier! Their skill and craftsmanship is excellent - very close attention to detail and everything looks perfect. They were very friendly and polite and but for hammering and sawing and banging and sanding were very quiet and unassuming. They cleaned up their workspace each day and left their equipment and materials very nicely organized and out of the way (which is important because my 3 year old son wanted to check the progress almost every night). We have multiple minor projects around the house. Essam was quick to do them and repaired them nicely. The only reason why I gave him 3 stars instead of 5 like other reviewers in Yelp is because of the lack of communication. Cons: (Please see pros on the bottom) 1. When you schedule an appointment with him, he does not fulfill it. He forgot to come approximately 3 times and called you at random time in the week whether or not he can come in the next few days because he is around the area even though we have informed him multiple times that the day he is free might not be free to us. 2. He is difficult to get a hold of either on the phone or by email. We understand if he could not respond to his phone, but we could not understand why he hardly replies back to his email. Essentially, because of his lack of response to phone or email, it becomes increasingly difficult to schedule an appointment with him. 3. Unlike other professional company that we worked with, he does not provide you with an order receipt of what he had done, so you have to remember how much the cost of the work is on the top of your head and sometimes the cost changes after he found out a deeper problem to the project than he anticipated. An order receipt is nice to have to keep track of how much your project will cost you, especially if you have multiple projects in your house. 4. In one of the projects where we requested him to replace the grout in our master bedroom, he did an exceptional job in the replacement of the grout but left the state of the bathroom in a disheveled mess. Because he does not take of his shoes or use a cover on for his shoes, there were shoe imprints left on the tub that was quite difficult to get rid of. Also, remnants of the grout were left everywhere, and we had to do a once over to clean the tiles and the bathroom in general. Pros: 1. He does his job quick in less than few hours. 2. He will point out if there is a problem that you are not aware of in the house or a deeper issue than the actual project you have handed him. I am sure the price of each project depends on the project itself, but we were given a rough estimate of $100 for each minor project and $200-$300 for any electrical work because he does not do the electrical work himself. (Note: any electrical work has to be done on a weekday.) read more

Let me echo so many of the reviews here - Essam and his team are absolutely fabulous and we will definitely hire them again to do jobs around our house. First, let me talk about the customer service. Essam really excelled in this area. We contacted Essam back in May, when we were still living overseas and wanted to arrange to have some work done while our house was empty before we moved in. He gave a fabulous overview of his services, did a walk through the house and gave us a full report, and adjusted his schedule many times to meet with us after we returned. He even talked us OUT of some work saying it was not needed - really amazing when a contractor looks out for their clients like that. And all throughout the project he kept us updated, sent pictures, and never added on or took away any work without checking first. The work was also top-rate. This is a long overdue review for Essam and his team. Bottom line is that Essam and his team are fantastic. He is honest, upfront, hardworking, and strives to meet the customer's needs. His prices are very fantastic and he stands behind his work. I would definitely acquire his services again in the future. He did an IKEA install for me which required full demolition including removal of kitchen soffits and rerouting of plumbing and electrical wires. His team did a great job with communication and catered to my wishes while offering great recommendations here and there. One thing to note though if you intend on using him specifically for a IKEA kitchen install. You need to know your design well and be able to make decisions at the scene during the installation. You can't just give them the design and walk away. It will take your time...I took a week off of work during the install so that I can stay close and make decisions. However, it was a good trade considering their price was less than half what the IKEA installers quoted me (and that didn't include the removal of the soffits, rerouting of plumbing/electricals, etc. Essam even installed my kitchen island for me for free and gave me a great referral for recessed lights. On top of that, he reshuffled his other jobs to meet my desired timeline. In conclusion, wow, what a great contractor and handyman. I will definitely be calling him again. read more
