I must've driven by the spot countless times and never noticed it. I found it on yelp when searching for butchers. This is a nice neighborhood spot that has been around for 30 years. The interior is clean and bright so I took some photos to reflect that. It seems that the photos posted are pretty old and seemed dark, which doesn't do this establishment justice. They have many products besides just meat. Mitch, one of the owners took care of me, and he was extremely friendly. I stopped in for a New York strip, and that's what I got. It was a nice cut of meat and it was delicious. Will definitely stop by again when I'm needing a good steak. read more

I'm a local that pops in every so often, but not on a first name basis. While I mostly come in for their deli, i splurge sometimes on steak. All previous visits, my steaks were cut to order. However, this past thanksgiving week, i was given a precut porterhouse which was more of a bone in strip. It still tasted delicious but we would've enjoyed more if there more meat on the filet side. My guess.. that the steak was reserved for someone else, while i ended up getting it because of the skimpy filet side. Nice staff nonetheless, just keep eyes on the steak you're getting before and after they trim it. read more

This review was removed with a higher rating after the owner clearly complained, so I've lessened the bite of one word and here it is, reposted with a lower rating this time for the audacity of his complaint when I have specifics, a receipt, and I'm clearly not lying: Apologies in advance if the prices are what they wound up at but the way this guy went about it made me feel like they robbed me and for that, they've lost my business. At first, he threw my 2.96 lbs of still frozen skirt steak on the scale and punched in $9.99/lb. $29.57, very reasonable, possibly even a nice price but not the cheapest in the area, I've found it at $8.99/lb. Then he cut two 1" NY Strips and weighed them, didn't notice the price he punched in, but they weighed 2 lbs even. Then he cut the fat off... again, after weighing. Then he takes the skirt steaks and throws them back on the scale and punches in $26.99/lb totaling $79.89, instead of the $29.57 shown earlier. I wound up paying $126 for just under 3 lbs of skirt steak and 2 NY Strips. Felt like I was robbed. Not going back, however, the steak was top quality and the cooking advice was spot on. read more

Stopped by yesterday late afternoon to get a real deal Italian cold-cut hero ..... The bread; semolina with seeds please, the meat hot cappy, salami , mortadella & fresh mozzarella topped with roasted peppers & lettuce & tomatoes & thin sliced red onion topped with balsamic, salt & pepper...... sorry yelpers I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures...... Also had to try their Chunky Chicken salad with walnuts & almonds and a honey mayo dressing .... Omg this caught my eye their cook had just brought this salad out and at 8.99 a pound it was totally worth it.... just bought a 1/4 pound for me & the wife to try ... both agreed Best Chicken salad ever like a Grand Marnier Chinese dish but served cold ... The deli clerk was very friendly & made me a custom hero..... delicious my friend .... This place is awesome.... they have every cold cut you could want, unbelievable salads and did I mention that they are a full butcher shop as well ?!! Wonderful neighborhood butcher shop. Always great service and spot on with their knowledge on the proteins. I always go here for the hamburgers, chicken burgers, sweet italian sausage. And a must purchase their tomahawk ribeyes inch and half cut. The ribeyes are always great. Good flavor, tender, and great grilled. Even their regular bone in rib eyes are good as well. Great spot here in the neighborhood and always a good experience. Will be coming back frequently. read more

We've been going to Metro Meats forever. Our favorite place to get fresh meats and good cold cuts. Recently we tried their homemade Asiago bread, as well as their Prosciutto bread, with Genoa salami, Provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato, oil and vinegar... OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Everything looks amazing. Sandwiches, salads, prepared foods, cold cuts, etc.. We ended up getting some skirt steaks, hotdogs, ground beef, some Boars head cheddar and some prepped salads as sides. Everything was fresh, of superb quality and tasted great. The staff at the counter was also helpful and friendly. I went here looking for prepared foods, as I'm not much of a cook. Based on the reviews, I expected everything to be amazing but pricey. The sliced store-baked roast beef was delicious. The meat loaf and garlic mashed potatoes were good. The potato salad was either spoiled or it had too much vinegar in it; either way, we couldn't eat it. I was really looking forward to the pot pie, though it was $7 for a small, single-serving pie. It was full of chicken chunks, peas and carrots. However it was very dry inside, had very little gravy in it and I did not enjoy it at all. Very disappointing. read more

A local, well respected & successful, restauranteur told me to come here about 15 years ago. That says it all. They also carry some gluten free items, i.e. Boar's Head products & a variety of pasta. Mitch, the owner is also eager to help with cooking suggestions. Their Pizza Rustica is unbelievably delicious. This is only available on certain holidays by special order. We had this as a cold appetizer for Easter. Yes-cold, and it was scrumptious. I had never had it before, didn't know what to expect, and was nervous about not heating it up. I was happily surprised. My fiance and I finally visited our local butcher, Metro Meats, after passing by so many times. What a treat! I was surprised by all of the prepared foods they offered, in addition to fresh meats, as well as lots of canned and jarred delicacies. We purchased several skirt steaks, cut to order, and grilled them last night - they were so fresh and tender! We also bought several chicken ke-bobs, and they were just delicious! My fiance was eyeing a package of prepared garlic toast, so we added that to our order too, and it was crisp, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The staff was friendly and courteous - I had asked several questions, including which cut of meat was best for grilling, and how long to cook the ke-bobs. They deferred to a more experienced staff member several times, and he was just a gem! He cut the meat for us, and I was asking him about the marinade used for the chicken ke-bobs, as I have some sodium restrictions, and he offered us ke-bobs that had not yet been marinated. (I ordered several marinated for my family, and I had the others - they were all fantastic!) I also asked him about the prepared foods, to find out if I would be able to enjoy any of them, with my dietary restrictions, and he offered us a generous sample of one of the pasta salads, with no added salt. It was so tasty that we bought two pounds and served it on the side with dinner last night. I will definitely shop at Metro Meats again. Their foods are wonderful and the staff is great! read more

I am so glad I found this place. The guys are wonderful and really get to know the customers. During the colder months, they have a stuffed pork chop which is wonderful and so easy to cook...just unwrap the butcher paper, put it in a pan, then stick it in the oven to cook! So yummy! During the warmer months, their marinated skirt steak is my choice for a quick dinner. It has a soy-garlicky flavor. I just heat up my stovetop grill and give it a few minutes on each side. Another family favorite. My only wish was that they would carry grass-fed meat. They do have Bell & Evans chicken. Besides the meat selection, there is a deli in the front with the usual cold cuts, cheeses, olives, etc. You can also get dry pastas, home made sauces, frozen ravioli, and other Italian goodies. Love this place and the guys that work here! On my day off, I like to pick a recipe and spend the day in my happy place - the kitchen. Often the recipes call for particular cuts handled in a certain way and supermarket meat will not do (if I were closer, I would always come here)! So I make the special trip here and every single time the guys help me out with great choices! Metropolitan Ave is a great neighborhood and it's because of small businesses like this that run with pride and attention to detail. I work in the Queens area, and when my boss heard we're having a BBQ, he pointed me to Metro Meats. Their prices aren't cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for. The cuts are absolutely beautiful! Their clean, but with the right amount of fat. Metro Meats is pricey, but I can't argue with their quality. I hate spending a lot of time parceling away leftovers and cleaning up after Thanksgiving so we decided to get a boneless turkey breast to make things easier. Just ask them to debone the breast and they will give you the bones on the side for soup if you like. It came to $29.05 which was more than an entire turkey would have cost, but it was absolute tender, juicy perfection. It wasn't all dried out and disappointing like breasts can sometimes be. Custom meat made to order. I frequently have to cook for a large group of people. Mitch prepares pork, beef, chicken - whatever I need, so that ll I have to do is throw it in the oven at the time and temperature he recommends, and I look like a guru. I highly recommend the pork crown with his homemade stuffing. Can feed about 15 people. As for deli meats, he has the best prosciutto around. Always soft and yummy. In the summertime, choose from boneless ribeye, ribeye, porterhouse, marinated steaks (both london broil (like you've never had it before) and skirt steaks. His homemade sausage can't be beat. Burgers and chicken breast? Yeah - he has the best of that, too. Tell him to triple grind the meat for you. Impress your friends - make his lamb chops. Old school Italian butcher that's been a neighborhood staple for decades. The lamb chops are excellent and we get them regularly for Sunday lunch. Sweet Italian sausages, dry aged steaks and chicken cutlets are also very good. They have a variety of ready made salads that always look fresh.
