I like their sandwiches, but the bread is where it needs a huge upgrade. My most recent purchase was the Bon Jour, which had delicious thinly sliced ham, brie cheese, artichoke, and dijon mustard. However, for a sandwich named after the French, the bread is not befitting. If they can fix that problem, their rating would easily be 4 stars. read more

I wanted to place an order here for the longest time after trying a catered sandwich at a birthday party, which was incredible. Entering the store, which is a long and a narrow yet fairly sun-lit location, the two employees seem flabbergasted. We placed an order online and I'm not sure if it's because it's the beginning of lunch time but they seemed disorganized. Then we finally got our sandwich and I said we'll eat right at the few spots by the window. Incredibly convenient. Asked if they could cut it in half since we wanted to try it fresh on the spot. One guy was friendly, the other was lukewarm. I had to explain, it's our first time ordering so will understand to clarify instructions in the online order to have it cut in half in the future. Besides the customer interaction, the sandwich is pretty good. Great crunch in the bread, ingredients are just enough (not like Stacked but good enough to fill you up). It's certainly a great option for sandwiches with fresh ingredients. This place has changed sandwiches for me. I used to think *ingredients* when I thought of sandwiches, but this place makes me think *flavor.* The Give Me Water Please Sandwich, ladies and gentleman. I actually felt like I needed some water, and while my spice tolerance isn't the best out there, I eat spicy foods regularly. While there aren't a lot of toppings in this, my bites were the perfect size. The cucina was clean with a variety of jams and aiolis for cooking. The service was absolutely amazing, and the staff was really friendly. My boyfriend loves talking about food, and the staff made helpful recommendations to suit his tastes. I've walked by this place a ton and finally tried one of their sandwiches. It's uber mom and pop seeming, which is lovely. The service is pleasant. The menu is what you might expect from an Italian sandwich shop. I stopped by to grab a sandwich. The shop wasn't very busy, but it looked like the staff was preparing a bunch of to-go orders. I was pretty surprised to see that the sandwich was $12. It would have been nice if it came with chips or some other small side. Another need met in the Forest Hills food scene, met since 2012 that is -- where have I been? Proscutto hanging from the rafters just makes me happy, as do a plethora of perky olives and how they bring color to their display case. Stonewall Kitchen took up far more of the shelf space than I could have guesses as this is a high end eatery and shopping location. Among the prepared foods were the usual suspects of chicken cutlets to quinoa salad and most everything in between. The cheese case to the far end was absolutely spetacular as to milk types, geographic origin, well displayed and quite the variety. I'm so interested on a quick price comparison with Cheeses of the World a half a block east. Directly behind the cheese reach in cooler sits the beverage cooler that sell beers, the likes of which I have never seen nor read about. Most of the time, these places have a lot of over priced, second rate options, for people who grab and go. Mr. Vino's understands its clientele, and offers top quality cheese, with a diverse range of first class cheeses. And, I can always be certain that when we go, there will be something new that they'll suggest, 98% of the time, it's right on the money. Last week we got an amazing, creamy Brie with truffles. Well, my husband did. But, um, I kind of ate most of it before he had a chance. Lol. We're really big right now on blue cheese and Gorgonzola. And, anything with truffles. Jayson love truffles. It's the kind of place, where you walk in, and whether it's Robert, Martha or Eric, they always remember you. And, whether you're a first time customer or a regular, they clearly love what they do, and do it well. There's no going wrong her. 4 stars first visit a few weeks ago. Really tasty sandwiches. We tried 2, the Mr. Vino Italian and Ole Ole. Both were quite delicious but we both preferred the Italian since we haven't eaten a good deli sandwich in ages. It had a generous amount of meat. Sliced thin, the meats were fresh but best if eaten the same day. Bread was soft and chewy. Ole Ole is served hot with the melted cheese and it's a lil sweet from the fig spread; I loved the chorizo. I don't eat cold cuts often since they're high in sodium but it was a nice treat. They're not huge sandwiches, so not cheap but better quality than the usual deli stuff. Update: 2nd visit: 3.5 stars - I got the Mr. Vino Italian again for L and he told me it didn't taste the same, so I tried 2 bites. I don't think they added any soppressata which adds a lot of flavor and heat. It definitely looked like there was less meat than before. Ham and cheese on a hero I can pretty much get anywhere else. Bread didn't have that nice chewy texture. The people working there weren't the same as last time. So it really depends on who's making your sandwich that day. There were barely any roasted peppers. Just a plain, somewhat bland hero for $10.99. Bella was much better, it had more roasted peppers and nothing was missing. So L ate my sandwich since mine was better, he also ate the other one as well since I didn't want it. I had a few bites. The meat wasn't as fresh as my first visit. read more

This is a high end deli and they have a lot of interesting and imported sauces and spreads. The counter guy is always very friendly and helpful. It's a specialty shop so the prices do tend to be above average, but it is worth the extra cost, it's not more than what you'd pay at Whole Foods. Wow. I came here prior for what I felt was a stellar pastrami sandwich on a whole wheat hero, excellent in every way. It's quite another matter, however, when the sandwich the guy advertises as having breaded chicken cutlet "The Spanican" is actually imitation chicken cutlet. Assuming that people would not notice the difference is undermining the intelligence and "food sense" of your customers, who expect to come here for a gourmet food shop experience, not at ALL for an owner who cuts corners for whatever reason, then still charges an arm and a leg for a mediocre-at-best menu item. Would've prolly never have stepped in had it not been due to my friends reccomendation. I ordered the Gimme Water with no bacon on whole wheat bread after asking what were their popular choices. I came here this evening to purchase cheese for the first time. I came in here a couple of months ago just to take a peak. Both times the staff were really friendly. They had a decent selection of cheese. I also love the variety of dressings and olive oil they have. This is a good place to have in the neighborhood. I enjoy supporting small business'.
