Okay, there are a ton of bad reviews and some overly great reviews. So let me be honest about this range: First, Prices: If you want to buy a gun, whether you're a first timer or a veteran, don't buy them here. You can find the exact same guns for sometimes $100-$200 less online than you could here. Which isn't their fault. Buying online means not having to pay a salesman who tries to sell you the gun. So, the prices are justified for where you are buying it, but I would personally never buy a gun from here again (I bought Mossberg shotgun here, found the same gun, brand new for $180 less...oh well) The range here really isn't overpriced. I've been to ranges in Missouri with roughly the same hourly rate and ammo is of course WAY more expensive from the range than it is reloading or even buying in bulk online. I personally buy my own rounds by the hundreds or even 1000 a time because I save as much as $200 if I had bought the same amount at any range or even a store. Their prices are typical. Nothing outrageous; Next, Service: I've never had a real issue with service here. As matter of fact I've had some real pleasant conversations with the guys there, and have had hour long conversations without even knowing it. I really don't know why there are reviews talking about how rude the staff is. Now, I wouldn't say they are all the most socially conscious people alive. Some of the guys seem sort of introverted and might be the type of people who keep to themselves. However, they aren't rude by any means. Not that I've known. I only ever had one run in with the owner and he did seem SOMEWHAT overconfident in his knowledge of guns. This was back before I bought an ATI brand 1911 which he insisted would be garbage that would blow up in my hand after a few hundred or 1000 rounds...well after 1yr of shooting not only is it still intact but it shoots like it was bought the same day. Only issue I had was bad factory magazines but Colt magazines fixed that. Keep in mind that the ATI 1911 I bought online cost $250 versus their $1000 1911s. I should point out my ATI 1911 is a Philipine made gun so I won't recommend shooting this in competitions, but if you want this for home defense and only shoot it occasionally to practice then it's a great gun for the price. I always bring in my own ammo I buy in bulk to save money. I've never had an instance where anyone has stopped me or chastised me for doing that. I don't reload so I can't speak for the comments about taking brass home, but I have seen guys around me doing that and they never got chewed out over it; Next, The Range: It's okay. Not terrible, not great. Just okay. It doesnt have good temperature control so it's somewhat hot in the summer and cold in the winter so that's pretty annoying. There's only 3 spots for rifles/shotguns but then there's 7 for handguns. I mostly shoot handguns so it's fine for me. I do most of my rifle/shotgun shooting outdoors unless I'm shopping for a new one that they happen to have on the range. The controls for the target are pretty basic and it takes some careful attention to line up the target to the distance you want. The yards are written on the wall but you have to manually control when the target line stops so...close is good enough; Summary: I like this place. I go shooting at least once a week to practice with my Beretta and I am trying out some compact pistols for CCW. I won't buy one there but I can browse and try them out. I really don't understand who these ultra-rude employees are, but as of now it's 2019 and some of these comments I see are back in 2016 or even 2013. So maybe the problem employee(s) have gone somewhere else. In which case it's all the more reason to come here. One guy in particular (if I can remember his name I would say it here) with a big beard, about 6foot, his very friendly and engages with whoever he is speaking too. I watched him explain to a new shooter way single/double action is (because she wanted a 1911) and I lent him Berreta for a few minutes to help him out. He's a cool guy and certainly the most appealing guy there. He has a much better vibe about him which makes him easier to talk to. Anyway, I hope this paints a better picture of this place and what to.expect from it. After hearing mixed opinions about this place and their employees I went in expecting rude,arrogant and unfriendly employees. Let me dispel your fears. I have only been here a few times but EVERYONE I have spoken to here has been extremely friendly and helpful. I honestly couldn't ask for the employees to be more helpful or nice. The range wasn't top of the line by any means but it does what it's supposed to do. The building is old after all. For non-members it costs $18.00 an hour to shoot and a bit extra for the target(s) you must rent. Handgun rental for non-members is $10.00 and ammo for rental guns MUST be bought here. Any (new?) gun purchased gives you a free year membership for the range. I don't have anything bad to say about this place. Go shoot and see for yourself! read more

From my personal experience the people here are very nice and respectful, they have plenty of experience and very helpful. Their classes are extremely insightful. From the purchase, range time and class I have had nothing but great service and friendly assistance. I think anyone should go buy a few times to look or shoot and see how great these people can be. read more

Disappointment is how I feel. I've been a member for about 15 years and was promised an add on laser for my 380 a year ago. I will not renew my membership. I've purchased several fire arms from Metro and got my CCW there. I sent members of my church and numerous friends for ccw training. I bragged on this store because the Owner is a very nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. I feel betrayed, but not by Steven. He has an excellent store. Horrible experience. Ended up having to spend $102.67 for a ricochet bouncing up the ramp backstop and hitting the cable holding the target. Manger told me it was my fault, even though I'm a safe and responsible shooter. DO NOT shoot or spend your money here. Take your business else where. Avoid this place, extremely poor service and prices high! Too many better options that understand customer service. The firearm was out of the store for one hour, before their mistake of not giving me the gun I requested/purchased with a safety was noticed by me, and brought back as instructed unfired to be exchanged for the gun I originally purchased...essentially their mistake giving me the wrong gun and paperwork. However when brought back they where unwilling, due to their mistake, to exchange and do the transfer paperwork to fix issue - kinda similar to a bait and switch scheme. Last of all, leaving me with the expense to have the safety installed or drive back and forth and deal with a consignment, as opposed to an credit/exchange. read more

This place used to be fun to go to, but it has really gone down hill. The staff is very rude, and seems like they go out of their way to get under your skin. They get all bent out of shape if you bring your own ammo, and dont even think about bringing reloads! I find it odd they dont want reloads shot in their range, but they sell reloading supplies. On our last and final trip there my buddy bought their high priced ammo went out in the range and shot it, when we were cleaning up all of our spent brass we were putting it in our range bags to take home since we both reload. A staff member comes out and says we cant take the brass home, it has to be turned in there. We BOUGHT the ammo from them, and they said we couldn't take the casings home. My guess is they want all the brass they can get so they can sort it and sell it for reloaders. ( even though they dont want reloads brought there) That did it for me. I have not been back since. After talking with several friends about the place, they too have had similar experiences and will not be going back. There are many other ranges in the area that are much more friendlier. read more

This is the single worst small business I have ever dealt with. I have gone there for years out of convenience, but never again. Their employees are rude, which I knew, and their prices suck. Nevertheless I signed up for a ccw class and asked the salesman point blank if I could get a full refund if I couldn't make the class and he said "sure". Four days later and four weeks before the class I asked for a refund, I took my receipt and they charged me a 25% "restocking" fee. I said, what are you restocking? He said, it's on your receipt that there's a 25% fee. I said that I never read my receipt, having been told point blank that I could get a full refund. In addition, they would not fix it on my credit card but will mail me a check sometime in the near future. Wow. read more

Very large selection that SHOULD make them well worth being the first place to check for anything gun related. However, they are the most rude, self-righteous and condescending staff I've ever encountered in a gun shop, and that alone makes them the very LAST place I will ever consider for anything gun related. Went there once and had a bad experience with their version of customer "service", but thinking maybe they had a bad day I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried them again a year or so later...with an even worse experience. I have been shooting at Metro for 6 years. They have just completed a renovation and the Range is great. I have found the staff to be knowledgeable and very friendly. Well I have always tried to stay away from this range due to high prices and bad customer service. I went in tonight because I helped my father in law build a new AR. Short on time Metro was the only place we could get to. Made it in at 7:10 pm and they close at 8. We were told we wouldn't get to shoot for a full hour. I was completely cool with that. We only were going to be there for 20 or 30 minutes. Then came the price gouging. $18 for the lane for one hour and $18 for me to stand next to my father in law while testing the rifle. Yep... one lane for $36 per hour. Then of course you have to buy their ammo there, since we could not use our own. To test fire 40 rounds it cost $62. Range is run down with 1980s target system. If you run the target out to just a little over 50 feet the lighting disappears. read more

I've been shooting at BSR, or whatever they call the place now, for many years. I, too, quit for a number of years do to the staff and the inherent attitude that seems to come when you let low lifes work at gun shops. I gave them another chance due to convenience and I can tell you the owner cleaned house. The guys that work there now seem to have went to sensitivity training and actually appreciate your business. I'm a member again and get in there as often as possible. Give it another try maybe. The team he has in there now seems to be a great group. Took the Veteran CCW class over the weekend. Mike Hale did a great job the entire day keeping the class interesting and informative. Shared plenty of real life situations to bring home the lessons and lead to a different perspective. Veteran or not I highly recommend Metro and Mike for CCW. As far as the gun shop, the guys I've talked to when I've been in are very helpful and polite with their opinions. I've not purchased firearms there but my brother has made several purchases and has had good experiences. Checking out the prices they are a little high. That said I look at it this way... if you are not educated in firearms, paying a little more for a gun and getting a ton of good advice could sooner than later save you a trip to an emergency room or worse yet, a funeral. Both are WAY more expensive. You do get a free membership with purchase! (nothing is free...) I ve been going to metro for a year now I bought 4 guns from them!!! Boss man there calls me by my first name surprised he knows it i forgot his all the staff is nice and friendly they answer all the ? I ask no problem it is costly but that's what happens when u involve great service they alway taken care of all my needs and wants and nothing better then going and shooting on a rainy day. Thanks metro also they gave me a good discount when I brought my wife and her mom, my mom and brother to the range when they came to visit. I never write yelp reviews, and this one started by me seeing what other ranges in Saint Louis may be close to me. I found that Metro Shooting was not up at the top - something I feel wasn't right. The first time I went in I expected to feel overwhelmed. This was totally not the case - the guys were super helpful and answered all of my questions. Within seconds of walking in the door they're trying to sell you something for at least $50 over retail and forget get about the ridiculous price they charge for the range. I have attended BSR 5 times, all within the last 6 months. I have also been to 3 other ranges in the St Louis area in this time frame, but because I am from Belleville I'd prefer to support my local business. However, I am just too disappointed with BSR overall to go back again as the cons mentioned below far outweigh the pros. Starting with the Pros: - I believe their advice to me and the new shooters I have seen there is pretty good and consistent with popular opinion. - About half of their staff is quite friendly and helpful. - Their rental gun selection is above average for area ranges. And now the Cons: - The range is DIRTY, by far the dirtiest of all I have visited. I do not want to set my guns down on the rubber mat in the booth. The last 2 times I have attended, they did not provide any brooms, empty brass containers, etc., so even picking up after yourself is made difficult by BSR. This is not the case in ANY other St. Louis area range. - BSR is the MOST EXPENSIVE of all area ranges. All other ranges discount additional shooters if sharing a lane, but BSR charges a full $18 times the number of shooters. This is not the case in ANY other St. Louis area range. - They just added a mandatory requirement to purchase their targets, which I found out as I carried in my own (the owner said it's because some people use too small of targets, and even though I indicated mine was EXACTLY the same as the ones they offer, he just turned his back on me!). - About half the staff is extremely rude, arrogant and lazy. I'm standing at the counter next to another customer, both looking at guns for purchase, while THREE employees are standing back, doing absolutely nothing! So one of the staff comes up after a COUPLE MINUTES to help the customer next to me, and the other two staff members still stand there while I have to wait for the other customer to finish looking at guns, get through Q&A and leave. A rude example is the target issue mentioned above, and I have many additional examples of this kind of behavior, too many to list here. If BSR ever decides to care and wants to change, they just need to look at their competition to figure out what to do. This isn't difficult guys, there is low hanging fruit everywhere around you. read more

I thought he was very informative and knowledgeable and I walked away after the two days spent there feeling well prepared, and loaded with a lot of new information. I asked them for a specific model revolver and they said they had already ordered the one I asked about so I paid for it in February. They kept calling me asking if I wanted a more expensive revolver for more money instead of the one I wanted. Finally, in July I decided to settle for a revolver that was basically the same except that the hammer was internal. They told me the price went up for the revolver by $20. At that point, since they told me no refunds in February, I decided to just pay them so I never had to deal with these people again. I was tired of my money just sitting there for a revolver that was never going to come in. After I told my friends a few of them were saying that they would have warned me about this place if I would have told them were I was ordering my revolver. read more

Metro Shooting Supplies refused to offer an exchange or refund on a holster I purchased the day before. On December 26, 2015 at or around 1300 hours I spoke to a sales associate (Clerk ID 90) in great detail as to what my requirements were with respect to a holster for my Kimber 3.5" barrel automatic hand gun. The associate showed me a holster that I was not able to draw my hand gun with, but insisted it was the holster for me. I informed him it would not work for my needs, so he showed me a holster he uses, a Galco inside the pants leather holster. I was not all that impressed with the holster, but the sales associate was relentlessly pushing me into buying that holster. So I said I would try it out, and gave into his pushiness. I also asked him if he had a Viridian C5L I could look at because I was interested in purchasing that laser light system for my 9mm. He told me they didn't carry that model, but showed me a Crimson Trace Railmaster. I was not all that impressed again, especially when he told me the price of the sight light. I indicated to him that I thought it was overpriced and I wasn't interested in spending that kind of money for it. The sales associate kept badgering me into purchasing this item, but I kept diligent in my decision not to purchase this item despite all his attempts to close me on this sale by offering free batteries for life, and other rather unworthy comments/suggestions. When I got home from the store I tried the holster out on my person, and immediately had issues with it being comfortable in my pants along with draw issues and safety concerns. As I informed the associate, I was specifically concerned about the draw, safety, and whether it was the right fit for me. I decided I would take the holster back the following day to get it exchanged. So, I went back to the store for a replacement or refund the next day December 27, 2015 at or around 1300 hours. I walked up to the counter to discuss the problems I was having with the holster and that I wanted to exchange it for something that was more suitable for my needs. Immediately the associate behind the counter started in about how superior his knowledge was than mine with regard to the Illinois Conceal and Carry laws, and the purchase was not refundable or exchangeable. I simply asked him what the Illinois Conceal and Carry laws have to do with the purchase of my holster and I was not interested in his opinion with regard to his knowledge of the Conceal and Carry laws as I was well informed of the laws myself. The conversation about his knowledge of Illinois CC laws was not relevant. I deferred the conversation back to the refund or exchange of my holster for a holster that was more suitable for my needs. It was at this point I was told that there was a typed up sign on their cash register that said all "sales are final" or something to that effect. I explained that my position was that the associate could have informed me of that fact knowing how particular I was in obtaining the right fit and my specific needs. The manager/owner who I was talking to immediately started getting loud and abusive (belligerent) linguistically with me regarding the matter. I explained to him that I didn't think the customer consideration was taken into account and I would appreciate a reasonable resolution. He flat out refused to accommodate and/or deferred me to the "all sales final" concept by telling me to sell it on EBay because the holster was my property and there was nothing he was going to do about it. I informed him I was very disappointed in his attitude and comments, that his competition is more eager to help customers with their needs by offering returns or exchanges rather than being overzealous sales associates. Also, asked him again to reconsider because I would never shop at that store again and I would inform all my friends and family of my experience with this business. He was not interested in his reputation because he said he didn't care what I did. My suggestion to patrons of this store is to consider shopping at a store such as Gander Mountain, Cabela's, Bass Pro, or Rural King for their gun and/or accessories. It has been my experience these stores are more in tune to the customers' needs and more willing to resolve issues of returns and exchanges. read more

Stopped into metro today to do some shooting at the range and check the place out. I did some looking around for ranges to go to online and i saw all of the terrible reviews they were getting and well i had to go see for myself because some of the reviews just seemed ridiculous and almost made up. Well i tell you what im pretty happy that i decided to stop by because the range was a good time and its a great place. I spoke with john and 3 other guys at the shop after shooting at the range for an hour and they are all very nice people who seem very willing to help you out with whatever your needs are. Now i saw alot of people complaining about issues at the range. Most commonly i think is people getting mad about fees at the range. Ok yes the range isnt as cheap as some but its only a few bucks more, Yes you have to pay for the target holder if you shoot it but really they make this very clear before you go shooting and also if you hit the holder then you should be shooting closer and just need to be more careful, and yes if you are shooting rapidly like jack wagon then you are going to be asked to stop because it is a safety concern and this goes the same for people just handling weapons unsafe in general. I see all these reviews that are terrible and it looks like its just a case of unreasonable irresponsible people who are getting mad for breaking rules that are obviously stated before you go in.
